  • The uncatchable exception

    Another custom MarkupExtension binding question... This time, my converter is being called before DataContext is set on the target element. This isn't a big deal because it will get updated when DataContext eventually receives a value. What is causing problems is the NullReferenceException I'm getting because of DataContext being null. Even though I'm attempting to catch the exception in my value converter: try { return ( (MethodInfo)_member ).Invoke( parameter, null ); } catch { return Binding.DoNothing; } For some reason the debugger is still halting at this point. Now I'm thinking it could be because the exception is happening in another assembly from where it is being caught (I'm trying to package this in a reusable class library, and _member above points to a method in the application assembly). If I run my little test app without the debugger it works fine, however my application is a little more robust and has general exception handling which is getting triggered because of this. I'm wondering if there is just some attribute or something (or perhaps some reflection parameter I'm missing?) I can use to make the exception be caught like it's supposed to.

  • 'System.Windows.Data.MultiBinding' is not a valid value for property 'Text'.

    I'm trying to write a custom MarkupExtension that allows me to use my own mechanisms for defining a binding, however when I attempt to return a MultiBinding from my MarkupExtension I get the above exception. I have: <TextBlock Text="{my:CustomMarkup ...}" /> CustomMarkup returns a MultiBinding, but apparently Text doesn't like being set to a MultiBinding. How come it works when I say: <TextBlock> <TextBlock.Text> <MultiBinding ... /> </TextBlock.Text> </TextBlock> But it doesn't work the way I'm doing it?

    i just got some more questions while learning PHP, does php implement any built in plugin system? so the plugin would be able to change the behavior of the core component. for example something like this works: include 'core.class.php'; include 'plugin1.class.php'; include 'plugin2.class.php'; new plugin2; where core.class.php contains class core { public function coremethod1(){ echo 'coremethod1'; } public function coremethod2(){ echo 'coremethod2'; } } plugin1.class.php contains class plugin1 extends core { public function coremethod1(){ echo 'plugin1method1'; } } plugin2.class.php contains class plugin2 extends plugin1 { public function coremethod2(){ echo 'plugin2method2'; } } This would be ideal, if not for the problem that now the plugins are dependable on each other, and removing one of the plugins: include 'core.class.php'; //include 'plugin1.class.php'; include 'plugin2.class.php'; new plugin2; breaks the whole thing... are there any proper methods to doing this? if there are not, them i might consider moving to a different langauge that supports this... thanks for any help.

  • Recover from inadvertent skip during rebase

    I just tried to rebase a very old branch with a minor modification onto my master. There was a problem with merging just one of the three files involved, so I did an unthinking --skip, thinking that it would just skip that file, but as it happened, it seems to have skipped all my changes, and rolled forwards. So now the rebase is finished, and my changes seem to have disappeared. I've seen the question about undoing rebase, but it's all greek to me, I see the reflog, but I don't know which commit the branch was attached to before the rebase. In any case, I don't really need to undo the rebase, I just want to be able to recover the changes in the two files. Is there anyway to do this properly (failing this, I'll just have to restore yesterday's backup of my repository and pick the bits out by hand).

  • Does Github.com have to create a merge commit when you merge from a fork ?

    I cloned the master and started doing he my work . Due to permissions I push the branch to my fork . I then sent a pull request to my master and someone with permission does the merge . I notice that Github.com creates a merge commit snapshot which to me looks like just a diff of the entire changes which is actually not necessary but helpful in the sense I can just look at merge commit to see the entire diff . I can see the same sha has as my own branch - hence it looks like the merge is an extra commit which probably aint nexeccary since its a fast forward ? master - a myfork(computer) - a->b->c myfork(github) - a->b->c Pull request myfork - master (which it says I can automatically merge) shows the entire diff and then when I merge it , it shows up as master - a->b->c-d . The d is a merge commit which I think it not really required because it is a fast forward ? Can someone explain why does this happen ? I think this is the same scenario if I rebase master if master had gone ahead , but that has not happened . Master is still at when I merge .

    I want to have a link in the popup.html file for my extension that loads another file (which will be included with the extension) how can I do this? or will I need to keep it in the same page? I tried using this code: <a href="/mail.html"> <img id="newmail_icon" src="" width="16" height="16" /> <span id="newmail">loading</span><br /> </a> But when I click the link nothing happens. I just found out that adding target="_blank" to the link will make it work and open in a new tab, but I can't get it to open in the popup. I have tried target="_self" but it didn't do anything.

  • How to Force an Exception from a Task to be Observed in a Continuation Task?

    I have a task to perform an HttpWebRequest using Task<WebResponse>.Factory.FromAsync(req.BeginGetRespone, req.EndGetResponse) which can obviously fail with a WebException. To the caller I want to return a Task<HttpResult> where HttpResult is a helper type to encapsulate the response (or not). In this case a 4xx or 5xx response is not an exception. Therefore I've attached two continuations to the request task. One with TaskContinuationOptions OnlyOnRanToCompletion and the other with OnlyOnOnFaulted. And then wrapped the whole thing in a Task<HttpResult> to pick up the one result whichever continuation completes. Each of the three child tasks (request plus two continuations) is created with the AttachedToParent option. But when the caller waits on the returned outer task, an AggregateException is thrown is the request failed. I want to, in the on faulted continuation, observe the WebException so the client code can just look at the result. Adding a Wait in the on fault continuation throws, but a try-catch around this doesn't help. Nor does looking at the Exception property (as section "Observing Exceptions By Using the Task.Exception Property" hints here). I could install a UnobservedTaskException event handler to filter, but as the event offers no direct link to the faulted task this will likely interact outside this part of the application and is a case of a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Given an instance of a faulted Task<T> is there any means of flagging it as "fault handled"?   • Cloning a private Github repo

    Hi, I have a private repository on Github for a project I'm working on. Until now I had only worked on my home desktop, but I just bought a laptop, and am trying to set it up so that I can work on the project from either computer, and push / pull changes. I added a new SSH key to my Github account for the laptop, and was successful in cloning and making changes to a public test repo that I set up. However, I couldn't clone the private repo. Is there anything special I need to do in the command line in order to clone a private repo? Do I need to set up a new GitHub account for my laptop and set myself up as a collaborator?   • How to implement buffering with timeout in RX

    I need to implement an event processing, that is done delayed when there are no new events arriving for a certain period. (I have to queue up a parsing task when the text buffer changed, but I don't want to start the parsing when the user is still typing.) I'm new in RX, but as far as I see, I would need a combination of BufferWithTime and the Timeout methods. I imagine this to be working like this: it buffers the events until they are received regularly within a specified time period between the subsequent events. If there is a gap in the event flow (longer than the timespan) it should return propagate the events buffered so far. Having a look at how Buffer and Timeout is implemented, I could probably implement my BufferWithTimeout method (if everyone have one, please share with me), but I wonder if this can be achieved just by combining the existing methods. Any ideas?
