• nginx: SSI working on Apache backend, but not on gunicorn backend

  I have nginx in front of an Apache server and a gunicorn server for different parts of my website. I am using the SSI module in nginx to display a snippet in every page. The websites include a snippet in this form: For static pages served by nginx everything is working fine, the same goes for the Apache-generated pages - the SSI include is evaluated and the snippet is filled. However for requests to my gunicorn backend running a Python app in Django, the SSI include does not get evaluated. • No sound through headset - only mic is working

  I noticed that no sound is being played to my headphones. The laptop has a conexant sound card together with the sounds apps provided. But the thing is that I also noticed that now instead of one playback device - 2 are presented: speakers and headphones. And while speakers do play sound nicely - even test sound are not played through headphone output. Also, headphone output does not have a jack assigned to it, while speakers have L R Rear panel Analog Jack(my laptop does not have a jack on the back - only on the right). Also - my headphones have a mic as well - and when I plug it in - the mic is working(using top panel digital jack),but the headphones themselves are not. And laptop is recognizing when audio device is plugged in. And I checked the headset on other devices - the headphones are working. I have tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers and completely uninstalling drivers and then restarting - nothing helped. I imagine that I somehow need to reconfigure the jack configuration just have no idea how and where. Any suggestions? Thanks

• Dell PS/2 Keyboard Stops Working Randomly After Power Disturbance

  I have a Dell PS/2 keyboard connected to a desktop PC running Slackware 12.2 & Windows XP. After a recent, brief power outage/disturbance at my home, the keyboard has begun to quit working at random times. It has stopped at POST, but not by keyboard error -- I have to press the F1 key to continue booting, and at times the keyboard has already stopped working. Other times, the keyboard will work perfectly for a long time (a day or more) before it finally quits. It has stopped at boot, in Windows XP, and in Slackware. The led lights continue to work regardless. I have tried another PS/2 keyboard and it seems to be immune to this problem. The USB mouse always works. Does anyone have any ideas about how this might have happened? If this is related to the power disturbance that killed the power to the running PC, is it feasible that it would have only fried the keyboard itself (which still works sometimes) and not the PS/2 port nor anything else? I have experienced no other problems since the event.

• tab complete not working for vim in particular directory - ubuntu 12.04

  I am working on a ruby on rails app. All of the sudden the command line tab complete stopped working for vim, only for files though, and only for the vim command (i.e. works for other commands, ls, rm etc.) After further investigation - this only occurs in a specific directory, the home directory of my rails app. If I go into a sub directory in my rails app, or any other directory on my machine, the tab complete works again. If I go into the root directory of any other rails app, it works. I also tried renaming the diretory, and copying the contents of the directory to another directory, and that did not work either. It only does not work for files, and works for any other command - ls, rm etc. But when I do vim /path/to/file/, then tab to see a list of files in that directory, only other directories show, not files. I am using ubuntu 12.04. Also, I tried re-installing vim, re-booting, removing ~/.viminfo (there was no vimrc file) that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated!

• SSH Interactive mode not working

  I have a Debian based linux server running for a year or so, without any problems. A couple of days ago, ssh interactive mode stopped working for no reason. I mean, I can open an ssh connection just fine, the server greets me with shell but I just can't type anything. However, if I send commands like this: ssh [email protected] cat /var/log/messages, I get the response. • Route through site-to-site VPN not working

  I'm trying to set up a site-to-site VPN using RRAS on two 2K8r2 servers since yesterday. The connection is working at this point, but I can't get it to send traffic from one site to the other one. Set up: the set up is the same on both sites: the server is connected to a router that's connected to a modem. The routers act like a DHCP-server and assign IP addresses from the range subnet.21-subnet-.100. Both servers use a static IP address, subnet.11, and are set up as DMZ. Configuration: the servers are configured using the wizard to set up a site-to-site connection. This works with a demand-dial interface and a PPTP VPN connection. As mentioned, the VPN connection work properly. Problem: I can't get the servers to send the traffic for the other site, to be sent through the VPN connection. I added a static route on both server (home, office 1) and I can see the result in the IP routing table (home, office 1). I did this because the route didn't show up automatically. My guess is that this last step isn't right, for example because the routing table states "non demand-dial", which seems not correct. • Some SVN Repositories not working - 405

  I have 2 groups of repositories, web and engineering. I setup web about 3 months ago and it works great, I'm trying to move engineering over to this same SVN server and I'm getting a PROPFIND of /svn/engineering/main: 405 Method Not Allowed error when I try to do a checkout. • HP EliteBook 8440P - USB ports stop working on docking station

  I have a HP Elitebook 8440P running Windows XP Pro SP3. I installed it on my docking station and everything went smooth for a while. Last week, my mouse and any other USB devices stoped working sudenly... It was working fine on my laptop itself but nothing on my docking station. LCD attached monitor works and same for LAN and PS2 keyboard. I updated the BIOS, Chipset, Video Drivers, also changed my docking station by a brand new one but the problem still comes back. I also noticed something in Device Manager... A Generic USB Root Hub has an error on it, a Yellow/Orange exclamation mark. I tried to update that driver but no luck. Windows is unable to process it. This seems to be the problem but can't fix it. I may only re-image my laptop but for me, I need to avoid that since I have so many apps installed on it. If anybody has any advice, I'll take it!

• Why isn't Apache Basic authentication working?

  I just upgraded Apache from it's 2003 build, to a squeaky-clean, brand-new 2.4.1 build. All seems pretty good except for one glaring thing: In my httpd.conf file I have the following: <Directory /> AllowOverride none Options FollowSymLinks AuthType Basic AuthName "Enter Password" AuthUserFile /var/www/.htpasswd Require valid-user </Directory> This should allow only users in the specified auth file to access the server - just as it had under the older version of Apache. (Right?) However, it's not working. Requests are granted with no authentication provided.   So yesterday I booted my laptop up and the external monitor I have it connected to just stayed black. At first, I thought the problem would go away when Ubuntu was loaded, but it didn't. I tried to reboot a few times, to no avail. Then I decided to give Windows 7 a try, and suddenly (at the login-screen), my external monitor turned on and worked like normal. I have connected the monitor via DVI, and this only seems to work with Windows now. I don't even get a signal in my BIOS! Mind you, everything was working fine before that, and I didn't change a single thing. I then tried to connect the monitor via VGA (from my DVI jack, which can output VGA using an adaptor), and it worked again. However, 1920x1200 using VGA looks like crap - black print on white background is basically illegible. Do you have any ideas how to fix this peculiar problem? I only use windows for gaming, so it's no real help that it still works normally. Please also excuse any spelling mistakes, I am practically typing this blindly. Edit: I only have one graphics card in my laptop, and I can't select anything related to that in my BIOS. In fact, I can pretty much do almost nothing there. My laptop is a Nexoc Osiris E703, graphics gard is a GeForce Go 7900 GTX. As I mentioned before, DVI output during booting and on Ubuntu was working fine for years before yesterday!

• HD working with IDE USB adapter but not recognised by bios

  I have a Windows XP Pentium III desktop with two hard drives. The first one has the OS and is luckily working. The second drive on the secondary master IDE channel few days back was unable to read some files and since then for some time it was failing and reviving intermittently and now it is always showing as failed on the IDE channel When the HD was intermittenly failing, I was able to copy some data from it to the other drive - also during that time if the system was running and the hard disk failed at that time, the system froze and then i had to reboot. then I got a new 80 gb hdd similar (same make - seagate barracuda) to the earlier failing one, a new data cable for the drive and an IDE to USB adapter. the new hard drive i installed in the previous drive's place (secondary master), formatted it and it worked for 1 day and then it also failed - simultaneously i connected the old hd to the IDE/USB adapter and i could view all the data - some of that data i was able to back up from the old hd to the new hd before the new hd failed the new hd i have tried connecting on the primary channel as the slave disk but when i do that then the bios does not detect either the OS drive or the new drive and the system does not boot surprisingly, the older (previously failed) hd and the new hd are both working fine on the usb channel with the IDE/USB adapter. i have ruled out any problem with the secondary channel since the dvd rom i was earlier using as primary slave have now connected to secondary master and it works fine. i am really confused by this behavior on my system. please can anybody try to solve this for me. thanks.

• Windows 8 Windows Store (Metro/ModernUI) applications not working (just show 'busy' animation or white screen)

  I have a Dell XPS 15 which shipped with Windows 7 x64, which I recently upgraded to Windows 8. The process went surprisingly smoothly (given that this was an upgrade, not a complete re-install), and the system generally seems very stable. However, today I noticed that several of the Windows Store apps don't work: they all behave in the same way, launching but then showing a spinning 'wait' animation indefinitely. This is affecting the standard Microsoft Mail, Store, Weather, News, Travel, Finance, Sport, Games and Music apps. The Bing app just shows a Bing logo on a coloured background (but no wait animation). The Calendar, Photos and SkyDrive apps open but then show a white screen. The Maps and Camera apps work without problems. The live tiles on the Start screen are updating correctly, for example the Mail app's tile shows a summary of new mail despite the Mail app's problems. All of these applications were working correctly a few days ago. I'm sure I've used several without problems since the last Windows update occurred on 7th November. Any suggestions on what might have happened and/or how to fix it would be very welcome. I don't need these Windows Store applications, but the fact that they're not working is irritating me.

• Get Matrox Millenium video card working in Ubuntu 9.10

  I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old PC and it is mostly working, except for some heavy drawing defects that show up whenever I start dragging a window or scrolling inside a window or menu. It looks like the video driver copies the rectangle being moved to the wrong location. I have taken a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the following line shows the detected video card: (--) PCI:*(0:0:8:0) 102b:0519:0000:0000 Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA 2064W [Millennium] rev 1, Mem@ 0xf9800000/16384, 0xfb000000/8388608, BIOS @0x????????/65536 (==) Using default built-in configuration (30 lines) (==) --- Start of built-in configuration --- Section "Device" Identifier "Builtin Default mga Device 0" Driver "mga" EndSection How do I fix the drawing defects? It turned out that the 24 bit color depth (automatically selected by ubuntu 9.10) was the problem; apparantly the mga driver doesn't handle this well for cards with little memory. I took the following steps to resolve the issue (you can skip the first three steps if you already have a semi-working xorg.conf file): Reboot ubuntu in recovery mode, to get a root console without X running. Run Xorg -configure to generate a xorg.conf.new file Copy the file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf with cp xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf (assuming it didn't exist yet; that's why I generated it) Open the new config file with sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf and make sure the screen section is configured for 16 bit color depth like this: Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 16 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection EndSection I can't guarantee those were the only important changes I made - I tried a few things in my attempts to create a valid xorg.conf file. But I'm pretty sure that the screen section was the important part.

• iptables logging not working?

  OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Logging daemon: rsyslog For some reason i'm not getting any iptables logs, even thought i don't look through them very often i'd still like to get it working for the sake of it working XD Here is my /etc/ryslog.d/iptables.conf :msg, contains, "[IPTABLES]" -/var/log/iptables.log & ~ My iptables logging prefix is "[IPTABLES]" followed by whatever else (example [IPTABLES] Denied xyz) the /var/log/iptables.log file is being created, however its not getting any entries. I can see the logging entries in dmesg but not in syslog or messages. Whats going on?   I've been playing with this for a couple of days, so I'm sure I'm missing something simple. Love tmux. Using it for development and have so many windows I need a better way of distinguishing them in the status bar and in the buffer list. Seeing a list of "bash" and "vim" isn't really helpful at all. And since they're all on the same host - don't care about the hostname right now. I'd like to show the current working directory, and the file being worked on. For example when I view the list of buffers I currently see: (0) 0: vim [100x44] (1 panes) "murph" (1) 1: vim [100x44] (1 panes) "murph" (2) 2: bash- [100x44] (1 panes) "murph" (3) 3: bash* [100x44] (1 panes) "murph" Here's what I'd like to see 0:vim main.py ~/devl/project1 1:vim index.html ~/devl/samples/staticfiles 2:bash ~/devl/sandbox 3:bash ~/.vimrc I'd like to see similar info in the status bar for each individual window. While I am able to get PWD to show up in the status bar of a window, it's only the working directory from where tmux was launched. This isn't any help as I change directories. I'm hoping this can be done without a bunch of scripts. Thanks all.

• Printer deployment via Group Policy not working on a single system

  One of my coworkers just got a new laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. We use a GPO to deploy the printers to every system, but for some reason it is not working on this system. I have been breaking my head over this for the past 3 hours now without any result. The strange thing is that gpresult /H seems to indicate that the GPO did run. The hardware: Laptop: Windows 7 Professional x64 Print server: Windows Server 2008 x64 R1 HP Color LaserJet 2605dn HP LaserJet P2015 Driver packages on server: HP universal printer driver PCL5, both X86 as X64 Oddities and other info: GPO working flawlessly on every other system, including my own Windows 7 Ultimate X64 laptop gpresult /H shows the GPO being ran Windows Firewall completely disabled on the new laptop Below is the output for gpresult /H (in Dutch sadly, but I think you'll recognize it): Beleidsregels Windows-instellingen Printerverbindingen Pad Dominerend groepsbeleidsobject \\Server2008\HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Printers \\Server2008\HP LaserJet P2015 Printers Beheersjablonen Beleidsdefinities (ADMX-bestanden) opgehaald van de lokale computer. • Mercurial no longer working in NetBeans?

  I have been using Mercurial inside NetBeans for a while now. For the past few weeks now Windows Explorer has been crashing for various reasons, including every time I right click. Finally someone suggested I try uninstalling TourtoiseSVN and TortoiseHG since they affect Windows Explorer directly. I uninstalled both last week since I don't ever use them (I either user the NetBeans interface or use the command line interface.) Since then my Windows Explorer stopped crashing. Today I noticed that in NetBeans it is no longer showing me any of the Mercurial features. I pull up a command prompt and its not working their either. It seems like uninstalling TortoiseHG also uninstalled Mercurial altogether, which was not intended. I went to http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/Download to download the 64bit 1.8.4 .exe version of Mercurial for Windows. I installed it, and I can now use the command line. However it is still now working in NetBeans. Does NetBeans require Tortoise to work? Is there something else I am missing?

• Windows Update broke Wirless driver - Can't get it working again

  I naively installed a driver update incoming from Windows Updates yesterday. That caused my Wifi on my Notebook (HP ELitebook 2740p) to break. The network is working as I tried it with my other mobile devices. When installing said driver, it told me that the installation failed. I tried to do a system restore, which did not help getting wifi connectivity back. The device said it was working, but did not get any wifi connection and did not discover any networks. What I tried next was to uninstall the device from my Device Manager and install either the current drivers found through windows, then I tried the same with the current drivers on the HP driver page. both of those attempts failed. It always tells me that installation failed when I uninstall and reinstall drivers. If I try to update the broken driver via internet, it tells me it is up to date, and in the device manager it still views as broken. Next, I 'played' around a bit and reinstalled drivers, and I managed to install drivers from 2012, and when trying to update drivers manually and picking drivers that match the device, it lets me choose between drivers from 2010 and 2014. 2014 would be the current one, picking the 2010 driver leads to the driver being accepted. However, no wireless network can be found. I'm pretty much out of ideas by now, short of reinstalling. The only option I can still think of was that the device broke at the exact moment I installed the new windows driver, but I find that a bit unlikely. Any help would be appreciated fixing this issue.

• Code working in jsFiddle but not in browser...

  I'm trying to run the following code, written on my local machine: http://www.jsfiddle.net/WShdx/3/ Functionality-wise (ignore the broken images in the previous and next buttons, and the wrongly-sized main images) the click/hover function is working properly in jsfiddle. However, on my local machine it's not working at all. For all intents and purposes the code is identical, except the local copy has this head section to load in the javascript/css files that are contained within the jsfiddle page: <head> <title>Jquery Wizard</title> <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="wizard.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> </head> Is there some wonderful function of jsFiddle that is making my code magically work, or am I missing something here?
