• Play Thousands of Online Radio Stations with Shoutcast in VLC

  Are you looking for more variety from your radio stations? Today we’ll take a look at how to easily stream thousands of radio stations to your desktop with VLC media player. Getting Started Select Media from the menu, go to Services Discovery, and click Shoutcast radio listings.   Next, select View from the menu and click Playlist.   Or, click on the Show Playlist button In the Playlist window, click on Shoutcast radio listings in the left pane. You should then see a very long list of Titles displayed on the right. Scroll though the list to find a music genre or topic that interests you. Double-click to expand the list of station options. Select one of the channel listings from the list and double click to begin playing.   Looking for a specific station? Type a search term into the search filter box to see if it is available.   That’s it. Sit back and enjoy listening to your favorite Internet radio programming. Both concepts intersect at various points: BigData and Return of Investment of Marketing Campaigns On a recent post Big Data Is The Future Of Marketing Jeff Dachis explains very clearly how “Big data analytics finally allows marketers to identify, measure, and manage what is positively impacting their Brand”. Regression analysis applied to big data volumes coming from social media will substitute the failed attempts to justify marketing investments on social media in terms of followers and likes, he continues, “the measurement models applied by marketers on TV Campaigns don´t work on social”, we need to study the data with fresh eyes and maybe then we will start understanding and measuring brand engagemet. Social CRM and BigData The real value of Social CRM start by analyzing mass of big data from social media in order of applying social intelligence techniques that allow us to classify new customer niches and communities and define appropriated strategies to contact potential customers. Gartner Says that the Market for Social CRM is on pace to surpass $1 Billion in Revenue by Year-End 2012 but in words of Zach Hofer-Shall, Analyst at Forrester Research “Social customer relationship management is hard” (The Social CRM Arms Race Heats ). To succeed brands need three things: Investing in new social tools, investing in consultancy and investing in infrastructure for massive data storage and analysis. Neither CeX or BigData are easy and cheap wins. But what are the customer benefits of such investments? • Is inline SQL still classed as bad practice now that we have Micro ORMs?

  This is a bit of an open ended question but I wanted some opinions, as I grew up in a world where inline SQL scripts were the norm, then we were all made very aware of SQL injection based issues, and how fragile the sql was when doing string manipulations all over the place. Then came the dawn of the ORM where you were explaining the query to the ORM and letting it generate its own SQL, which in a lot of cases was not optimal but was safe and easy. Another good thing about ORMs or database abstraction layers were that the SQL was generated with its database engine in mind, so I could use Hibernate/Nhibernate with MSSQL, MYSQL and my code never changed it was just a configuration detail. Now fast forward to current day, where Micro ORMs seem to be winning over more developers I was wondering why we have seemingly taken a U-Turn on the whole in-line sql subject. I must admit I do like the idea of no ORM config files and being able to write my query in a more optimal manner but it feels like I am opening myself back up to the old vulnerabilities such as SQL injection and I am also tying myself to one database engine so if I want my software to support multiple database engines I would need to do some more string hackery which seems to then start to make code unreadable and more fragile. (Just before someone mentions it I know you can use parameter based arguments with most micro orms which offers protection in most cases from sql injection) So what are peoples opinions on this sort of thing? I am using Dapper as my Micro ORM in this instance and NHibernate as my regular ORM in this scenario, however most in each field are quite similar. What I term as inline sql is SQL strings within source code. There used to be design debates over SQL strings in source code detracting from the fundamental intent of the logic, which is why statically typed linq style queries became so popular its still just 1 language, but with lets say C# and Sql in one page you have 2 languages intermingled in your raw source code now. Just to clarify, the SQL injection is just one of the known issues with using sql strings, I already mention you can stop this from happening with parameter based queries, however I highlight other issues with having SQL queries ingrained in your source code, such as the lack of DB Vendor abstraction as well as losing any level of compile time error capturing on string based queries, these are all issues which we managed to side step with the dawn of ORMs with their higher level querying functionality, such as HQL or LINQ etc (not all of the issues but most of them). So I am less focused on the individual highlighted issues and more the bigger picture of is it now becoming more acceptable to have SQL strings directly in your source code again, as most Micro ORMs use this mechanism.   Currently, I am working on a product where we have an SMS text advertising system, and using this, we setup advertising campaigns for clients, and later these campaigns are sent to the end users. This is very similar to Google Adwords, but targeted to Mobile users via SMS. Just to give an overview of the system Each Campaign is mapped to an advertiser Campaign has start date and end date Campaign has a filter condition(s) or query to select the target user base from our database (to whom we send Campaigns) Target user base can be fixed, for e.g send campaign to 10000 users Target user base can also be dynamic based on query condition, for e.g send campaign to users who are active and from a particular state, district, town etc. (this way user base will be keep changing on daily basis) Campaign can have multiple campaign messages Each campaign message has start date and end date Each campaign message can have multiple message texts for different locales, for e.g English,Hindi,Telugu etc After creating an advertisement campaign, we run daily night job to provision the target user base for that a particular campaign in a separate table, and another daily job runs on morning times and checks provisioned table for campaigns and targeted users and sends the campaign to users via SMS. Problem is, current UI for creating advertising campaigns is designed in a very technical manner, I mean, normal user or business owner or clients can not use the UI to create a campaign. Below are reasons why the UI is very technical in nature Filter condition(s) or query input filed, takes user ids or mobile numbers or SQL queries. Most of times or almost every time, we use big SQL queries So we end up storing SQL queries in a database for a campaign, later we use this SQL query to fetch targeted user base. For scheduling these campaigns, we have input filed on UI which takes quartz cron expression(s) ( for e.g. send campaign on "0 0 9 1-10 MAR 2012" ), again very technical in nature Normal user or business owner, can not use the UI for creating campaigns for reasons mentioned above, Currently, we ourself (developers) helping clients to setup/create campaigns. we are trying to re-design the UI to make it more user friendly so that any user can go to UI and create an advertisement campaign by himself. I am thinking of re-designing the current UI similar to Google Adwords interface, especially for selecting target users based on user geography like country, state, city etc. I also need to select users based user subscription(s), which might make system even more complex. And also, for campaign scheduling, I am thinking of using weekdays with hours. For example, I will shows Monday to Sunday on UI, and user can select the from hours, to hours etc. Any better ideas or suggestion on how to design UI in very user friendly manner and what design should be followed on server side code (we write backend code on java/jpa/spring/quartz)? And I am looking for ideas or design patterns on how to build SQL queries (using JPA/Hinernate) programmatically on server side, based on varies conditions like based on country, state, town, village, and user subscriptions.

  I just install apache2 on ubuntu,the default www directory is /var/www/ ,I use ln to link it to '/media/Software/Program Files/wamp/www/' at the windows directory,but the apache shows 'You don't have permission to access / on this server',Then I use 'sudo chmod -R 777 /media/Software/Program\ Files/wamp/www/' to set the permission,but it didn't work,and nothing changed when I saw the permission in the preporties of the '.../wamp/www' folder.So I want to know How can I change the www directory to '.../wamp/www' as I also need to access this diretory in windows.

• NFS server generating "invalid extent" on EXT4 system disk?

  I have a server running Xen 4.1 with Oneiric in the dom0 and each of the 4 domUs. The system disks of the domUs are LVM2 volumes built on top of an mdadm RAID1. All the domU system disks are EXT4 and are created using snapshots of the same original template. 3 of them run perfectly, but one (called s-ub-02) keeps on being remounted read-only. A subsequent e2fsck results in a single "invalid extent" diagnosis: e2fsck 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010) /dev/domu/s-ub-02-root contains a file system with errors, check forced. Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes Inode 525418 has an invalid extent (logical block 8959, invalid physical block 0, len 0) Clear<y>? yes Pass 2: Checking directory structure Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity Pass 4: Checking reference counts Pass 5: Checking group summary information /dev/domu/s-ub-02-root: 77757/655360 files (0.3% non-contiguous), 360592/2621440 blocks The console shows typically the following errors for the system disk (xvda2): [101980.903416] EXT4-fs error (device xvda2): ext4_ext_find_extent:732: inode #525418: comm apt-get: bad header/extent: invalid extent entries - magic f30a, entries 12, max 340(340), depth 0(0) [101980.903473] EXT4-fs (xvda2): Remounting filesystem read-only I have created new versions of the system disk. The same thing always happens. This, and the fact that the disk is ultimately on a RAID1, leads me to preclude a hardware disk error. The only obvious distinguishing feature of this domU is the presence of nfs-kernel-server, so I suspect that. Its exports file looks like this: /exports/users 192.168.0.0/255.255.248.0(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) /exports/media/music 192.168.0.0/255.255.248.0(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) /exports/media/pictures 192.168.0.0/255.255.248.0(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) /exports/opt 192.168.0.0/255.255.248.0(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) /exports/users and /exports/opt are LVM2 volumes from the same volume group as the system disk. /exports/media is an EXT2 volume. (There is an issue where clients see /exports/media/pictures as being a read-only volume, which I mention for completeness.) With the exception of the read-only problem, the NFS server appears to work correctly under light load for several hours before the "invalid extent" problem occurs. There are no helpful entries in /var/log. All of a sudden, no more files are written, so you can see when the disk was remounted read-only, but there is no indication of what the cause might be. • xubuntu 13.10: automount usb sticks

  I have a freshly installed Xubuntu 13.10 on the Lenovo T520 laptop. In the Settings Manager — Removable Drives and Media I have the Mount removable drives when hot-plugged and Mount removable media when inserted checked. But when I insert an usb-stick (VFAT) it doesn't get auto-mounted. So I can't access it from terminal. It gets mounted only when I click on the drive icon on the desktop or in Thunar. Can I fix it somehow?

Now when i look in the disk utility it shows "Hard disk Symwave WD6400AAKS-0 device /dev/sdc doesn't show any other info then that, if i format, it says that it cannot open /dev/sdc no device or address error. Underneeth the device it does show two general usb3.0 CRW that are sdd and sde. • changing drive nodes & hdparm

  I am currently attempting to create a command that works at startup to kill the power on two of my very noisy hard drives. I have edited the etc/rc.local file to include this command: sudo hdparm -y /dev/sdc sudo hdparm -y /dev/sdd exit 0 While I think this should work, it seems the allocated drives keep switching around every time I reboot. I have sda, sdb, sdc, sdd, and sde but they keep getting jumbled around (making the drive I wish to shut different than sdd which is making the task of shutting down the right drive on start-up quite cumbersome. I do not know how to resolve this. A quick workaround the problem was to go with UUID instead of the DEV letter by editing the etc/rc.local file to include: hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/443AFBAD7FE50945 hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/7ABB49654B799D40 So I thought I was in the clear, as I heard both hard drives die down during the boot sequence, BUT, as soon as I log in both drives start up again! so now I have to figure out what is making them start up again after log in, or perhaps another way to get them to turn off. Is there some kind of command i can get to execute after log in? I tried editing the startup applications to include an autossh with: autoshh - sudo hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/7ABB49654B799D40 autoshh - sudo hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/443AFBAD7FE50945 but this did not seem to work to turn off the disks after log in.

• Proper Method name for XML builder

I have a helper class which builds CAML queries (SharePoint XML for getting list items from SQL) There is one method that is flexibly used to build the queries that get all related votes and comments for a social item. I don't want to call it BuildVoteorCommentXML or something long winded like that. Is there a good naming convention for getting all Join/Foreign Key objects from a core object?

• Google Analytics show zero for "Search Engine Optimizations" graph

  In Google Analytics new design, there is an area related to the queries and impressions related to your site. You can get there by following Traffic Sources = Search Engine Optimization = Queries. However, it now shows zero for the "Site Usage" graph, at the top section, while other areas of Google Analytics definitely show that site has visitors and has been used. No matter how much I search, I can't find the source of the problem. Does anyone know where the problem might be?
