• Designing a WPF map control.

  I'm thinking about making a simple map control in WPF, and am thinking about the design of the basic map interface and am wondering if anyone has some good advice for this. What I'm thinking of is using a ScrollViewer (sans scroll bars) as my "view port" and then stacking everything up on top of a canvas. From Z-Index=0 up, I'm thinking: Base canvas for lat/long calculations, control positioning, Z-Index stacking. Multiple Grid elements to represent the maps at different zoom levels. Using a grid to make tiling easier. Map objects with positional data. Map controls (zoom slider, overview, etc). Scroll viewer with mouse move events for panning and zooming. Any comments suggestions on how I should be building this?

• How do you fix the Silverlight application shift that occurs in the Firefox browser?

  Hi, Currently I have an Silverlight application that when run on Firefox browser (ver 3.6) the entire contents of the Silverlight application shifts a little, and also the scrollbars on both the bottom and the side appear when I first use it. This does not happen in IE 8. How can I fix this in Firefox so it doesn't happen? The project type I created was the "Silverlight 3 Application + Website" via Expression Blend 3. • jQuery Sortable + Droppable z-index problem

  I am having a probelm with the z-index of my sortable object not being above my droppable. If you visit http://clareshilland.unknowndomain.co.uk/. Press Ctrl + L to bring up the login screen. Enter the username clare and the password shilland. It will then load in the admin bar and if you click manage gallery. A pop down thumbnail view will appear with all the photos from that gallery. The issue is that when you drag the 'polaroids' from the grid to the delete area they are under the delete area. I tried putting the delete area inside the same div as the grid but it makes no difference, I just don't know what to do at this point so any help would be a massive help!

• How to represent a Board Panel in Java for a game ?

  I wanna fix a 2D board for a game. I've already fixed other panels for the Gui and everything goes well. But the panel for the board cant be printed on the window. I'm a bit confused about it as i think i've followed the same ideas as for the others panels i need. Here's what i've done: EDIT:*EDIT* what i'm trying to do is fix a board panel for the game according to the dimensions of the it,hold every square in an array in order to use it after wherever it;s needed. I draw each little square of it with the method draw and put it back to the panel. So, each square on the board is a panel. This is the idea. But as u can see. There are troubles/errors on it. EDIT: code updated. just found a part of the problem. i thought first that i had set background to squared, but i didnt. with this one it appears on the panel a wide black "column". Unfortunately,still none squares. :( One More EDIT: Also,i realized that draw method is never called. when i put the draw method in the following method i can see the squares but they remain small. I redefine them with setSize but still no change. How can I use paint method to edit the panels properly???? As it is now it can't. • Using file-path to images stored within the Application Settings

  I am trying to develop an application that uses a number of images that are stored in a seperate remote file location. The file-paths to the UI elements are stored within the Application Settings. Although I understand how to access and use the file-path from Settings in C# (Properties.Settings.Default.pathToGridImages + "OK.png"), I am at a loss to figure out how to utilize the Settings paths in WPF, and can only seem to access the file if I include the file-path, such as: <Grid.Background> <ImageBrush ImageSource="C:\Skins\bottomfill.png" TileMode="Tile" /> </Grid.Background> I would have thought that concatenating "Properties.Settings.Default.pathToGridImages" with "bottomfill.png" in WPF could be done much like it can be done in C#. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

  I have a strange one here, I know there is a issue with airspace and transparency when opening up a web browser control within a WPF application. But in my instance I do not need transparency or opacity etc but the web pages are opening up with a strange overlay across them rather then showing solid colors? I have a WPF application that has a Grid and within the Grid there is a Frame and the frame source is a normal website url which is showing strange colors, as if there is a transparency/opacity issue going on? when I view the web page in a normal browser the page displays fine?

On the UpdatePanel,there few labels and componentart Grid which Updates from the server on every Asynchronous postback when an image button is clicked. The Problem is that the server code updates the modalpopupextender labels as the information on the grid but it wont display the Updated version of it on the modal Popup Extender. Need some Help... • Silverlight - rebinding to a property?

  Hello, I'm just getting started with silverlight. Basically I have a silverlight user control that has various dataGrids and a combobox, their item sources set to the properties of a custom plain c# object. My problem is that I have a dropdown list that when a user selects an item from the list a new row should appear in one of the grids. All I'm doing is handling the SelectionChanged event and adding a new item to to a list in my custom object and setting the itemsource for the grid again. This doesnt seem to work; no row is added to the dataGrid I have no idea how to force my grid to "rebind" to this property. I've been reading about dependency properties, are these what I need? Any pointers would be really appreciated.

  I am having some issues trying to learn WPF. What I am trying to do is to bind a class that has a string and an array of strings. • Can I make DataGridView.EndEdit trigger the CellValidating event?

  I'm using a DataGridView in my WinForms application. My main objective is to make the Enter key not move to the next row in the grid. I still want the enter key to validate and end edit mode. I found this FAQ entry and subclassed DataGridView to override ProcessDialogKey(). If the key pressed is Enter, I call EndEdit(), otherwise I call base.ProcessDialogKey(). It works great, except the CellValidating event isn't fired. Currently, I'm just manually calling my validation logic before I call EndEdit, but it seems like I'm missing something. I guess I could call OnCellValidating, but then I'd be worried I'm missing some other event. What I really want is some flavour of EndEdit() that behaves just like pressing enter on the last row of a grid with adding disabled.

I'm building a map editor and to put more tiles on the map, i'll have to add values to this json object. • ItemsControl that loads items one by one asynchronously.

  Hey Guys, I am creating a custom DataGrid by deriving the traditional tookit based WPF DataGrid. I want a functionality in the grid to load items one by one asynchronously, wherein as soon as ItemsSource is changed i.e. a new collection is Set to the ItemsSource property or the bound collection is Changed dues to items that rae added, moved or removed (wherein the notifications comes to the data grid when the underlying source implements INotifyCollectionChanged such as ObservableCollection). This is because even with virtualising stackpanel underneath the datagrid takes time to load (2-3 seconds delay) to load the data rows when it has several columns and some are template based. With above behavior that delay would "appear" to have reduced giving datagrid a feel that it has the data and is responsive enough to load it. How can I achieve it? Thx Vinit.

• How can I make a read only version of a class?

  I have a class with various public properties which I allow users to edit through a property grid. For persistence this class is also serialized/deserialized to/from an XML file through DataContractSerializer. Sometimes I want to user to be able to save (serialize) changes they've made to an instance of the class. Yet at other times I don't want to allow the user to save their changes, and should instead see all the properties in the property grid as read only. I don't want to allow users to make changes that they'll never be able to save later. Similar to how MS Word will allow users to open documents that are currently opened by someone else but only as read only. My class has a boolean property that determines if the class should be read-only, but is it possible to use this property to somehow dynamically add a read-only attributes to the class properties at run-time? If not what is an alternative solution? Should I wrap my class in a read-only wrapper class?

• 'Out of Memory exception' in sql server 2005 xml column

  Hi All, I am devloping a windows forms application and am using sql server 2005 database as my backend. I am having an xml column in my database. I am using ultrawingrid control in my application.I obtain the xml of the dataset which is bound to my ultrawingrid control and pass that as a parameter value to the stored procedure where am inserting this value into the xml column which I specified. The columns in my grid are dynamic and hence there can be any no of columns in my grid. I got 'out of memory' exception in the dataset.GetXml() statement since there were more no of columns I believe.So, what I did is that I used dataset.WriteXml() method and stored all the xml contents into an xml file, loaded the xml file into the XmlDocument object and then passed the xmlnodereader as the value to the stored procedure parameter.Now, while executing the stored procedure am getting the same 'out of memory' exception. How could I resolve this issue?

  Hello, I've been searching for a while and browsing through the samples but could not find a solution to my problem. In Microsoft Chart Control I have created a line series that plots real-time data. As new data points are added, the chart margins will sometimes jump on the form. I have tried disabling the grid lines and have determined that the margins change when the x-axis label overlaps with the y-axis label. I have tried auto-fitting the labels but that does not seem to work probably because it treat x-axis and y-axis separately. Is there any way to prevent the overlap, or keep the labels and corresponding grid lines stationery and just change their value when the data scrolls? Thank you for your help.

  I'm trying to set the scroll vertical position of a spark dataGrid to show the items as I add them to the grid. I know you can set the scroll position like this: dataGrid.scroller.viewport.verticalScrollPosition = itemPosition*rowHeight; The problem is that the dataGrid have variableRowHeight, as each row word wraps their name labels, and I don't know how to get each row height. I though of getting the itemRenderer associated with every item as I add it to the grid, and keep the total row height value in a variable, but don't know how to achieve that. Is there any way to set the scroll position of a dataGrid with variableRowHeight to show the last added item?

  I want to implement a grid view like the one in Pinterest I thought about implementing as 3 table views. But I was not able to scroll them together well. When I implemented the scrollViewDidScroll and set the contentOffset for the table views other the scrollView , the scrolling became slow and unusable. Another implementation I did was of was having a set of images to load and calling the viewDraw function in scrollViewDidScroll. THe ViewDraw function just draws the necessary images and removes the rest of the images from the memory which were already drawn but wont be visible . this too makes the ScrollView Scrolling slow. And another issue with it is that there are white(background color) patches before the images are drawn. What should be the best way to implement this grid view ?

• How do I detect when a cell's value has changed in Silverlight?

  Hey folks, I'm working in Silverlight, trying to figure out how to set a grid cell font color based on the contents of the cell. I have an ObservableCollection bound to a DataGrid, and my items implement INotifyPropertyChanged so the grid updates as I change the values; it's all working perfectly, including letting me sort items and keep the sorting while I update the underlying items. I know I can use the LoadingRow event to change colors, but the only way I can get the event to fire is by changing the grids datasource, in which case my sorting goes out the window. So, what I really want is a way to either 1) loop the rows in the datagrid, find the cell I need, and change it's color or 2) implement a custom column that I can use to dynamically set the color. The problem is how to actually do either of those things :) All suggestions welcome.

• Overwhelmed by design patterns... where to begin?

  I am writing a simple prototype code to demonstrate & profile I/O schemes (HDF4, HDF5, HDF5 using parallel IO, NetCDF, etc.) for a physics code. Since focus is on IO, the rest of the program is very simple: class Grid { public: floatArray x,y,z; }; class MyModel { public: MyModel(const int &nip1, const int &njp1, const int &nkp1, const int &numProcs); Grid grid; map<string, floatArray> plasmaVariables; }; Where floatArray is a simple class that lets me define arbitrary dimensioned arrays and do mathematical operations on them (i.e. x+y is point-wise addition). Of course, I could use better encapsulation (write accessors/setters, etc.), but that's not the concept I'm struggling with. For the I/O routines, I am envisioning applying simple inheritance: Abstract I/O class defines read & write functions to fill in the "myModel" object HDF4 derived class HDF5 HDF5 using parallel IO NetCDF etc... The code should read data in any of these formats, then write out to any of these formats. In the past, I would add an AbstractIO member to myModel and create/destroy this object depending on which I/O scheme I want. In this way, I could do something like: myModelObj.ioObj->read('input.hdf') myModelObj.ioObj->write('output.hdf') I have a bit of OOP experience but very little on the Design Patterns front, so I recently acquired the Gang of Four book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software". OOP designers: Which pattern(s) would you recommend I use to integrate I/O with the myModel object? I am interested in answering this for two reasons: To learn more about design patterns in general Apply what I learn to help refactor an large old crufty/legacy physics code to be more human-readable & extensible. I am leaning towards applying the Decerator pattern to myModel, so I can attach the I/O responsibilities dynamically to myModel (i.e. whether to use HDF4, HDF5, etc.). However, I don't feel very confident that this is the best pattern to apply. • Managing important runtime business logic with regard to a codebase

  I'm working on a project which will end up have a lot of application information stored in the form of records in a database. In this case, it's the configuration of data views: which grid columns to show/hide default filters to apply to each grid view column titles sorting subtotaling ... This information is a big part of the value of the application and is essential to it's function. The data will be altered by admins a fair amount, so it's not static and it wouldn't be appropriate to have to deploy a new version of the app every time the data changes. The question is, Where should this data be stored? It will definitely live in the database because that's how it's accessed, but I feel like it needs to also be kept with the version controlled codebase because it's an integral part of functioning of the application. Has anyone dealt with an issue like this before? What did you end up doing?
