  • Cloning a WebCenter Portal Managed Server

    I had to run some tests on a WebCenter Portal application deployed in a cluster. I've got a development VM with WebCenter PS4 (this also works on PS5) and I was trying to figure out how could I easily add a new managed server to my single-node domain, and make it a cluster. Creating the machine and cluster are a piece of cake, you can do it pretty quick through WLS Console. Now, you'd guess that using the clone option on WLS Console would do the magic of cloning an existing instance, right? Well, it does, but all you get is an "empty" managed server: with no target libraries.  It was a good surprise to find that WebCenter provides a way of cloning an existing WebCenter Portal managed server through a simple WLST command: cloneWebCenterManagedServer  This is a screenshot of my starting point. I want to clone WC_CustomPortal managed server: These are the steps to clone my WC_CustomPortal managed server: 1. In the command line, invoke WLST. It should be on <ORACLE_HOME_for_component>/common/bin/wlst.sh. In my case, it is ./product/Middleware/WebCenterPortal/common/bin/wlst.sh 2. Connect to the Admin Server:  connect ('<wls_admin_username>','<password>','t3://<server>:<port>') 3. Execute the following command: wls:/webcenter/serverConfig> cloneWebCenterManagedServer(baseManagedServer='WC_CustomPortal', newManagedServer='WC_CustomPortal2', newManagedServerPort=8893, verbose=1) I've turned on verbose output on purpose so I could see what the script was doing while executing.     The CTRL key, which stands for ConTRoL…aw, the good ole days What keyboard shortcuts should EVERY Oracle SQL Developer user know? How do you find new shortcuts to master, and how do you change them to match ones you’ve already learned in other tools? These are the driving questions for today’s post. While some of us may be keyboard ninjas, and others are more driven to use the mouse – everyone has probably picked up a few strategic keyboard shortcuts over the years. For example, I’ve personally JUST memorized the Cmd-Shift-4 ‘trick’ in Mac OS X. And of course we all know what F1 does, right? Right?!? Here are a few more keyboard shortcuts to commit to memory.     I have an abstract class called Address and I am deriving three classes ; HomeAddress, Work Address, NextOfKin address. My idea is to bind this to a usercontrol and based on the type of Address it should bind properly to the ASP.NET user control. My idea is the user control doesn't know which address it is going to present and based on the type it will parse accordingly. How can I design such a setup, based on the fact that, the user control can take any type of address and bind accordingly. I know of one method like :- Declare class objects for all the three types (Home,Work,NextOfKin). Declare an enum to hold these types and based on the type of this enum passed to user control, instantiate the appropriate object based on setter injection. As a part of my generic design, I just created a class structure like this :- I know I am missing a lot of pieces in design. Can anybody give me an idea of how to approach this in proper way.

    I have an issue and NO it is not homework, it's just a programmer who has been away from SQL for a long time having to solve a problem. I have the following table: create table students( studentid int identity(1,1), [name] varchar(200), [group] varchar(10), grade numeric(9,2) ) go The group is something arbitrary, assume it's the following "Group A", "Group B"... and so on. The grade is on a scale of 0 - 100. If there are 5 students in each group with grades randomly assigned, what is the best approach to getting the top 3 students (the top 80%) based on their grade? To be more concrete if I had the following: Ronald, Group A, 84.5 George H, Group A, 82.3 Bill, Group A, 92.0 George W, Group A, 45.5 Barack, Group A, 85.0 I'd get back Ronald, Bill, and Barack. I'd also need to do this over other groups.

  • VS2008 adding SQL Server Database (SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio) not working

    I'm trying to practice using the ASP.Net MVC at home, but I ran into an impossible problem. I cannot open a connection to SQL Server 2008, I get this error: "Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. ..." I've googled around for numerous responses, none of them either working or addressing this issue. I'm running Vista 32bit, my SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio is also 32bit, I have SP1 installed both on VS2008 Professional, as well as the SQL Server. I changed the machine.config connectionStrings from ./SQLExpress to my SQL Server 2008 name. Now if I connect manually through web.config, in an asp:datasource or code-behind, everything works fine. But for some reason trying to add a DB Connection directly like this always gets the error. This is pretty fatal, since I can't rightly do much unless I can use LINQ to SQL with my MVC test project, and this is the only way I know how. Worked fine in school and work, but not at home. Installing SQL Server Express 2005, as some have suggested, is not an option. Obviously it HAS to work with SQL Server 2008. Thanks in advance.

    In Ubuntu, when I click on Switch User Account... and then choose the same account to log in (for example if my name is John Smith, I click on switch user account and then log into the John Smith account again), how can I run a script after that? (I know, that I can run a script after "first" login by putting it in /etc/profile file, but this script is not executed again when I choose switch user account and then immediately log in back to the same account.)

  • Tables are not visible in SQL Server Management Studio but they are in Visual Studio using same acco

    I'm experiencing a weird problem with a particular SQL login. When I connect to the server in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (2008) using this account, I cannot see any of the tables, stored procedures etc. that this account should have access to. When I connect to the same server within Visual Studio (2008) with the same account everything is there. I've also had a co-worker connect to the server using the same login and he's able to view everything as well. The strange thing is if I switch logins, I'm able to view objects that the other account has access to which indicates that there isn't a problem with MSSMS on my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can diagnose this problem? I've check to make sure I don't have any Table filters etc.

  • Group Policy Software Installs Too Silent on Windows 7

    I'm trying to migrate a Windows XP deployment process to Windows 7. The process has been surprisingly smooth, after figuring out how to bring up a base system. We rely heavily on Group Policy software installation, which in XP can mean long periods on any given morning sitting around watching the machine install new updates. At least the typical Windows Installer message shows the user that something is indeed happening. As far as I can tell, Windows 7 retains the startup installation process (good), but eliminates the on-screen message to indicate what's happening (bad). All a user will see, possibly for a half-hour or more if they haven't restarted for a while, is the electric hamster wheel and the words "Please wait...". I forsee a significant increase in support calls... If you're familiar with msiexec.exe parameters, XP behaves like /qb-, and 7 behaves like /qn. I want the /qb- behavior back. Is there a way to re-enable the Windows Installer notices for Group Policy startup installations?

    When trying to install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2008 instance that is running on a virtual machine, the installer will start:   But then after about 20 seconds I receive the following error message: TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. ----------------------------- SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created. ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Searching for this issue I found that several people have the same problem and there is no clear solution.  Some had success with closing windows or Internet Explorer but that didn’t work for me; what did work is to make sure the SQL Server 2008 “Please wait while SQL Server 2008 Setup processes the current operation.” dialog is selected and has the focus when it first shows up.  Selected (with the current focus) it looks like this:   Without focus the dialog looks like this: Add a comment if you find out any information about how to consistently get around this issue or why it is happening in the first place.

    I am a relative newbie when it comes to SQL Azure!! I was wondering if there was a definitive list somewhere regarding what is and is not supported by SQL Azure in regards to SQL Server 2008?     I have looked through a number of solutions to emulating "Group concat" functionality in SQL Server. I wanted to make a more human readable solution though and I can't work out how to do it. I have a view: ParentID | ChildName Which contains the records, for example: 1 | Max 1 | Jessie 2 | Steven 2 | Lucy 2 | Jake 3 | Mark I want to "Group Concat" these to get: 1 | Max and Jessie 2 | Steven, Lucy and Jake 3 | Mark So If there is only 1 child, just return name, if there are more than one, concat the last 2 with an ' and ' and all others with a ', '. I am a bit stuck on how to do this without resorting to CLR, which I don't want to do. I am happy with a function - but speed is an issue and how do I determine the child number so I can choose between ' and ', ', ' or ''?

  • Standard -server to server- and -browser to server- authentication method

    I have server with some resources; until now all these resources were requested through a browser by a human user, and the authentication was made with an username/password method, that generates a cookie with a token (to have the session open for some time). Right now the system requires that other servers make GET requests to this resource server but they have to authenticate to get them. We have been using a list of authorized IPs but having two authentication methods makes the code more complex. My questions are: Is there any standard method or pattern to authenticate human users and servers using the same code? If there is not, are the methods I'm using now the right ones or is there a better / more standard way to accomplish what I need? Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

We had to find the top 5 donor per month and send out some awards. The SQL we came up with was clunky and had lots of limitation (can only do one year at a time), then switch the where clause and go again. Fast forward 8 years, I got a similar problem where we had to find the top 3 combination of 2 fields for every single day. And the solution is this elegant: SELECT CAST(eff_dt AS DATE) AS "RecordDate" , status_cd , nbr , COUNT(*) AS occurance , ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY CAST(eff_dt AS DATE) ORDER BY COUNT(*) DESC) RowNum FROM table1 WHERE RowNum < 4 GROUP BY CAST(eff_dt AS DATE) , status_cd , nbr If only I had this 8 years ago. :) Life is good now!

    Possible Duplicate: Good Books and videos for absolute beginner to SQL I have landed a role as a product engineer for a web based product. A big part of the product is allowing its users the ability to create queries with SQL to pull in business information from their back end databases. I know the very basics of SQL and need to spend some time getting a better grasp on SQL. I have the tutorial from w3schools on my ToDo list, but was hoping to get some answers that point me to good resources for learning SQL. I have no preference - I can buy a book (SQL For Dummies?), or online resources, online videos, audio, etc.
