• ASP.NET Canceling the Default Submit Button

  I have an ASP.NET application where there's a few ASP.NET buttons and several plain HTML buttons. Anytime there's a textbox where a user hits enter, the ASP.NET button trys to submit the form. I know I can change the defaultButton, but I don't want there to be any default button. I just want it so when the user presses enter it doesn't do anything. I've tried setting defaultButton to blank, but that doesn't seem to work and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere on the web. What's the code to make this happen? Thanks.

• Is it possible to dynamically add webcontrols via jQuery???

  Currently I have a webform that has a series of links. What I'd like to be able to do is add a webcontrol's content when one of the links is clicked. Is this kind of thing even possible? If not, what's the best strategy for loading a set of controls (one textbox and one dropdown with values from one link, two textboxes and a checkbox from another link, etc.). I'd need to be able get the values of each of these controls on postback. Ideally, I'd like to be able to add that new content to an acordian control, most likely the jQuery UI acordian. So each clickable link would add new content to an acordian control. What's everybody's thoughts on this?

• Shorter Binding expression with validation

  Hi, I'm repeating same binding parameters for every textbox and they're quite long strings (which is not good for many reasons). And I'm wondering if there's a way to make them shorter? For instance all my controls on forms are using the following binding template: Text="{Binding SourceProperty, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged, ValidatesOnExceptions=True, ValidatesOnDataErrors=True, NotifyOnValidationError=True}" I'd would like to have something shorter that ideally will take SourceProperty as parameter. Possbly like this: Text="{MyBinding SourceProperty}" or Text="{Binding SourceProperty, Params=MyParams}" One possible option would be to inherit from Binding and create new markup extension. Did someone tried this? Any other ideas how to make these repetetive bindings look better?

• Testing ASP.NET security in Firefox

  I'm not sure whether this question belongs on StackOverflow or SuperUser, but here goes nothing... I'm trying to test out some basic security problems on my personal ASP.NET website to see exactly how the custom validators, etc. work when tampering with the data. I've been looking at the Firefox extension TamperData which seems to do the trick, but it doesn't feel very professional at all. The issues I'm having with TamperData is that the textbox for the POST data is way too small to hold the ASP.NET view-state, so I have to copy that data into Emacs and then back again to be productive at all. I also don't like that there doesn't seem to be an option to only tamper with data which is from/to localhost. Any ideas on better extensions for the task or better methods to test it?

It's late and I'm tired, anybody know how to fix this or point out the glaring flaw in my comprehension?

  I have several keybindings in my text editing application that no longer work now that I have switched from using a regular textbox to using a richtextbox. This is because the wpf richtextbox has several default hokeys such as "Ctrl+1", "Ctrl+2", and "Ctrl+5". My keybindings are defined in a view that contains the view that the richtextbox is in. I can't move the keybindings to the richtextbox; Is there any fix for this problem? Other than using a third-party control or creating my own richtextbox from textboxbase.

• How can I modify a custom object in an ASP.NET FormView based on a button click?

  I have a FormView that modifies an instance of a custom class. The various form controls (TextBox, DropDownList etc.) are working fine. However, I want to include a Button that will modify the state of the DataItem based on some very simple logic. There is no form control which could control this change in a non-confusing way. So I tried adding a Button and modifying the state of the DataItem in the code-behind. But the problem I encounter is that the FormView's DataItem is null/nothing. From reading this SO question it seems the problem is that the item is not databound when the Button's Click event is fired. So, the question; Is it possible to get the DataItem for the FormView during a Button's Click event? and if not: what are my options for implementing this? Thanks in advance.   These days I'm working on a VB.NET application which can be used to edit, compile and run C programs. Can someone tell me how I can call a cl.exe process from within my VB program and also that how do I run the program in the console widow itself. Presently I have only the editor ready. With that one can type in a program and save it with a ".c" extension. Now there are 2 buttons on my form - "Compile" and "Run". When the user clicks on the "Compile" button, the program should be passed to the cl.exe process and the errors should be displayed in another textbox or the DOS(black screen itself). And when the user clicks on the "Run" button, the ".exe" file which just got created should get executed.

However it doesn't work on my Device, which is set to German. • DataBinding and ErrorProvider - How to provide custom error messages?

  We use BusinessObjects, implementing IDataErrorInfo and IEditableObject. BindingLists with those Objects are added to BindingSources, those are used to bind UserControls and DataGrids on the forms (WinForms). The BindingSource is additionally set as DataSource to the ErrorProvider of the form. We do use currently TextBoxes for Properties of Type int and short. They are validated inside the BusinessObjects with custom validation, like min/max values, etc. That works fine, since error message form our custom validations show up nicely next to the TextBox. However, if the input is greater than the value of an int (e.g. "9999999999") the BindingSource doesn't even try to enter that Value into the BusinesObject but instead gives the errormessage to the errorprovider like "The value for Int32 was too big.". We do not want to bother our users with "Int32" but want a custom errormessage for that. It is nice, that the BindingSource does provide this feature, but is it possible to provide custom error messages for this?

• Ramifications of CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls=false

  I recently updated an application from VS2003 to VS2008 and I knew I would be dealing with a host of "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'myControl' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on" I am handling this in what I beleive is the correct way (see code sample below). I am running into numerous controls that are going to need a similar fix. Not wanting to have similar code for every label, textbox etc.. that are being accessed by a non UI thread. What are the ramifications of just setting the CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls = false for the entire app? I found a CodeProject article with various workarounds and a warning at the bottom to NOT set the property.   I've got a .net button that has an href attribute value set to 'javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("ctl00$cp1$ucInvoiceSearch$btnSearch", "", true, "", "", false, true))'. I've got a textbox that when I press enter I want it to fire this event. Doing the 'Enter' event isn't an issue but I can't get the event on the href to fire using .click(). • Strange tab ordering when creating controls after postback

  I have a button that opens a panel in a popup window and then performs a postback to retrieve data from the server and render some controls. Some of the controls are textboxes and some are dropdown lists and can be in any order. Everything works fine when tabbing through the textbox controls. But when tabbing from the first dropdown contorl found, the tab order 'gets lost' and it starts tabbing from the first control again. When I tab to the same dropdown list the second time 'round, it correctly tabs to the next control. Does anyone know what might be going on? Example: TextBox1 (Tab -> focus set to 'TextBox2') TextBox2 (Tab -> focus set to 'DropDown1') DropDown1 (Tab -> focus goes back up to 'TextBox1' - wtf?) TextBox3 Update: The TabIndex attribute is set on all controls.

  Hi! I'm currently facing the problem, that I import an Excel file to a DataGrid. This works pretty fine, but after importing the table, I need to know how many rows are invalid. I have applied several validation rules for the different datatypes, and I have an icon in the row header, that shows up if the row is invalid. But since I have more that 10.000 rows in the grid, I don't want scroll all the way through it to find the errors. Any ideas, how to determine the count of invalid rows (and then maybe bind that to a textbox)? Thx

  Hi, I want to pass parameters betweeen applet and jsf components So when a value of a input textbox changed, its binding backing bean makes connection to a servlet. The servlet create an attribute and save to HttpSession using (request.getSession(true)).setAttribute(name, value); Then at some event, applet will access another servlet. This servlet will try to retrieve the Attribute saved to Session previously. However, everytime, the attirbute returned is null as the new session is created instead. How can i check that i just add one li each time you hit enter. Hope you get the problem!
