  • Migrating Terminal Server profiles from 2003 to 2008 R2 "V2"

    I've done some searching and there doesn't appear to be a method of migrating old 2003 based profiles to the new "V2" profiles automatically. Specifically, we're interested in retaining the <Profile>.NK2 file in Outlook, the Favorites folder, and the Signatures folder. I'm in the process of writing a fairly complicated migration script that'll be executed at login, but seems like this is something that I shouldn't have to do. The User Migration Tool appears to only work for Vista, not 2008 R2. Any other ideas?

    I was thinking of setting up a partition on my Vista comp and installing Linux on that partition. I was gonna install Ubuntu on this partition. I was wondering if the equipment I have (i.e. video card, mouse, keyboard, network card) would be potentially unable to work on a linux platform? Any advice on doing this?     I have gVim installed. Under Vista and XP, this offered me an addition to either the object context menu of "Edit with gVim", or an addtion to the "Open With" context menu of "gVim". This would let me send arbitrary files to gVim for editing. Under Windows 7 64-bit, I have installed gVim -- twice, as it happens -- and there's no menu item. How do I add an option to send arbitrary files to gVim for viewing/editing?

    What is the best method to rip/encode a standard definition DVD, to be streamed to a Xbox360 from a Vista Media Center pc (preferably using free software). I’ve found tons of tutorials on the web explaining how to create wmv’s from vob files using FFMpeg, but every combination of settings that I have tried has resulted in very poor video quality. I’ve also tried various video conmversion tools, but everything seems to result in poor video quality, or audio that is out of sync with the picture. Please help!

    I noticed that on Windows 8's Start screen, I could right click a Windows legacy program (A program which runs on Windows XP, Vista and 7), and I could run it as Administrator. However, whenever I clicked on a Windows 8 Modern UI or a Metro app, I didn't have that option. So here are my questions:- Why can't I run the Modern UI apps as an Administrator? Does it make any difference as far as security is concerned?

    OS: Vista, SP1 My SD/MMC drive does not appear anywhere (MyComputer, Disk Manager). In My Computer the only available drives ar C:\, D:\ and J:. I can no longer view any removable disk drives. When I put my SD card into its slot, it doesn't get read at all. I can't load pictures from my card to my PC. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I want to copy photos from my camera's memory card using Windows photo copy wizard, however I'm not connecting the camera directly (I lost the cable) rather I'm inserting the camera's SD memory card into the memory card's slot. Windows (Vista) recognizes the memory card and I can explore the photos but it doesn't automatically launch the "Device connected, what do you want to do" wizard. I then used that DVD to install Windows 7 on my machine and then realized that I the .iso file was on the Vista operating system that I replaced with Windows 7 (didn't upgrade). So now I would like to get the .iso file back but with the same key, etc. How can I convert the DVD I burned back into an .ISO file?

    Good morning, I have a registry key that changes local users Internet Explorer LAN Settings to uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" tickbox. When I add this policy to the Terminal Servers user group it has no effect. I exported this key from my own registry after unticking the box. My computer runs Windows Vista Business Edition. Environment: We are using Server 2008 RC2 environment - two terminal servers with a session broker. Any idea's on how to get this working?

  • Set default File opening programs

    Working on Vista & Window 7, I use Winamp 5.57 for listening to mp3 and VLC player for watching movies. I made those two as my default players for corresponding media respectively. But when I launch winamp for playing mp3, some of the video files( like .flv, etc.,) automatically get changed the file opening mode to winamp player. This happens every time even if I set it back to 'default program'. Can someone please help me out.
