• System for public internet access

  I'm looking for solution for a public wifi spot.. I want that all people who connect to our wifi network should be redirected to special website(after they open any internet page) where they should reed and agree with our terms of services(by clicking a button). After that they can open any internet page. I have a router and a linux box with site(with agreement page ready), so I'm looking for some software/or hardware solution for this, preferable open-source.

• Malicious program changing my DNSs

  Some weeks ago I started having problems with my internet connection, it was extremely slow and suddently some websites (specifically gmail, facebook, youtube and twitter) started failing to connect, while the rest connect normally. Some days after, those same websites started showing me a message in portuguese: "Nova atualização disponível" whenever I tried to connect and a .exe file started downloading ("internet_update.exe" or something like that). That's when I freaked out! It was definitely a virus or something like that, but it was really weird because I never had a problem like that (I run Linux). So I turned on my old PC (running Windows XP) and it turned out it had the same problem! the same message was showed whenever I tried to connect one of those specific websites, while the rest loaded without problems. Even in my Android smarthphone the same message was showed. So it was obvious that the problem was not in a particular machine but in the router itself. So I started googling and I found some information, unfortunately I only found some in spanish, so I will make you a short summary: It is a new banking trojan developed specifically to infect and collect information from Brasilian banks. Apparently now it has expanded to Argentina and Peru. So how does it work? It spreads through social networks (videos, links, ...) and then it "takes control" of your internet connection by changing the values of your DNSs. More specifically, it changes the Primary DNS to one of this IPs: 108.170.13.38, 66.7.216.122 or 63.143.43.154 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8, this secondary DNS is actually the Google Public DNS, and it is configured this way so that your internet connection continue working properly and the user does not notice anything. The important part here is that because no download or install has been made in your machine, no antivirus will notice any change. After your DNSs have been changed, the trojan controls every single website you connect to and this way they steal your bank information. So after reading about this I accesed to my router and I restored my Primary and Secondary DNSs to their proper values, but one day after I had the same problem again. This is actually a 50% warning post - 50% help me! post. So, here comes the question: Is there any possible way to prevent my DNSs of being changed?

• Comcast SMC Port Forwarding Issue

  I have a Comcast SMCD3G modem/router and I've been having issues getting the port to forward - When I check an online "open-port-checker" it says the port is forwarded/they can see the port on my IP. (1 Static IP is assigned to the modem) But when I try to access port 80 for example on a browser, it times out. Also when I try to remote desktop to the server (Windows Server 2008 R2) it doesn't work, yet canyouseeme.org says it is open. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

The Slingbox is a TV streaming device that enables users to remotely view their home's cable. it seems that slingbox streams to amazon ec2 servers and from there to the client so i can't really give priority based on ip-address.

• juniper j2300 console connection?

  I've been given a Juniper Networks J2300 router, but I've never used a juniper device before and no idea where to begin on how to connect to the console of the device. I have a serial to RJ45 cable but not sure on how to connect to the device. Do I use specific software or just use something like minicom (linux hyperterminal alternative)?   Say I have the ip and mac address of a computer inside a network and I wish to send him a UDP message. By initializing the mac and ip addresses of the sent message to the given, when the network router recives the message he should pass it to the computer with the same mac address...right? Im asking becuase a program I write dosent seem to handle this limitation. it works great when its on the same network, but otherwise ...nada. Thanks

• How can I make my livebox route to my external IP address for a computer in the DMZ?

  I have a sagem livebox 2 (Fiber optic model), and have placed my computer in a DMZ. People from outside of my network can access my comp fine via its external dyndns.org address, yet when I try to call the public dyndns.org address from inside my network, I get redirected to the internal admin site on the router. What happens if somebody configures a router's LAN address pool to range from 62.231.75.2 to 62.231.75.255, then his computer's IP address to 62.231.75.232 and someone else on the network tries to access Google? Or better off, is there any case in which someone in that network can, by merely attempting to access Google, accidentally bump into another computer on the network?

  I'm looking at allowing internet access for only a few scattered users on a school network. One method I'm considering is using 802.1x authentication for the modem. Of course there are simpler options like only allowing specific IP or mac addresses, but policy requires something more secure than this. So, are there any modems with 802.1x wired authentication? All my searching on this yields info about wireless.

• UDP multicast streaming of media content over WIFI

  I am using vlc to stream media content over wireless network in scenario like this (from content streamer to stream receiver client): The bandwidth of wireless network is 54 Mb/s and UDP stream's required bandwidth is only 4 Mb/s; however there is trouble in receiving media stream and quality of playing specifically in multicast mode; means I can play the stream but it has jitter and does not play smoothly. In uni-cast I can stream up to 5 media streams correctly, but in multicast mode there is problem with streaming just one media! However when I stream from client some multicast streams; the wifi access-point can receive data correctly and I can see the video in "udp streamer" side correctly even when number of multicast streams increases to 9; But as you see I want to stream from streaming server and receive media in client size. Is this a typical problem of streaming real-time contents over wireless networks? Is it necessary to change configurations of my WIFI switch or it is just a software trouble? thank you
