• VS2010 .filter files and SVN

  Since we've switched to VS2010 we've noticed a new .filters file that apparently contains the filter structure of the project. We're also using subversion as our source control. Unfortunately, every time we check in now we end up with merge conflicts if anyone's added a file or filter to the project. SVN seems absolutely incapable of merging this file type correctly even though it's text based. It's getting rather frustrating. Is anyone else dealing with this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

  Let's assume I have the following code: public class MainClass { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(sumNumbers(10, 10)); } //@requires a >= 10; //@ensures \result < 0; public static int sumNumbers(int a, int b) { return a+b; } } I can make 2 things here: Use Code Contracts (in this case, what is in comments). When sumNumbers is run and a < 10, it will throw immediatly an exception (although it doesn't seem to be very descriptive): Exception in thread "main" org.jmlspecs.jmlrac.runtime.JMLInternalNormalPostconditionError: by method MainClass.sumNumbers at MainClass.sumNumbers(MainClass.java:500) at MainClass.internal$main(MainClass.java:9) at MainClass.main(MainClass.java:286) or... Throw an exception. The exception can be as descriptive as I want. I'd also to check in the end of the function to see whenever the post conditions are true or not. Which would you use here and why?

• How can I switch timezones in Perl's Template::Plugin::Date?

  I have a calendar on my website, generated in Perl using Template::Toolkit and Template::Plugin::Date. It highlights the current day. I achieve this by iterating through all the dates (as I print the calendar) and comparing against the current date. Something like this: [% IF cur_date == date.format(format = '%Y-%m-%d') %] ... [% END %] It all works well until someone in Australia looks at it. (They are in a different timezone to me and my server in the UK). What's the best way to get Template::Plugin::Date to use a different time zone? It accepts a 'locale' parameter, but AFAIK this is only used for formatting.

I currently just copy FooDelegate implementation code from Bar1 to Bar2. How do I structure/implement in such a way that Bar1 and Bar2 share the same code in a single code base (not as currently with 2 copies) since they are the same? Thanks in advance for your help.

• Capture Silverlight 4 event when panel clicked

  I have a small Silverlight 4 app that essentially consists of a grid containing a label and a combo box. When I click the label, I replace it with a second text box so that I can edit the label (much the way you can edit the name of a Silverlight control in VS2010). I have a LostFocus event handler on the text box that will end editing when the control loses focus (restoring the updated label). Trouble is, users tend to click on the panel when they are done editing rather than on another control (or hitting Enter, which is also supported). I tried adding a left mouse down event handler to the panel. However, that only fires when the text box does not have the focus (I guess the text box captured the mouse?) Is there an approach to recognize that a non-input control was clicked that would enable me to terminate edit mode?

• how to link with static mySQL C library with Visual Studio 2008?

  Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? • What is considered a long execution time?

  I am trying to figure out just how "efficient" my server-side code is. Using start and end microtime(true) values, I am able to calculate the time it took my script to run. I am getting times from .3 - .5 seconds. These scripts do a number of database queries to return different values to the user. What is considered an efficient execution time for PHP scripts that will be run online for a website? Note: I know it depends on exactly what is being done, but just consider this a standard script that reads from a database and returns values to the user. Also, I look at Google and see them search the internet in .15 seconds and I feel like my script is crap. Thanks.

  I have a TClientDataSet connected to a TDataSetProvider, which in turn is connected to a TAdsTable. I set the SQL command and then open the ClientDataset something like this: try CDS.CommandText := 'SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE fieldname = 1'; CDS.Open except // trap exception here - this never gets executed! end; If the SQL statement in CommandText fails, however (syntax error or whatever) I get an exception within the Advantage code, but it never gets caught in my own exception handling code. Is there any way for me to trap this error and report it nicely to the user. Alternatively is there a way to verify the syntax of an SQL query before executing it? I'm using Delphi Pro 2009, and Advantage Local Server 9.

• Problem with SqlServer 2005 when openning connections

  I have a Winforms application and I use EntLib to connect to a SQL Server 2005 DB. The application is working ok, but somethings, and lately more often, we have started receiving this error from the db when openning the connection: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) The problem is intermittent. The user works nice for a couple of hours and then suddenly the exception is thrown. Sometimes it happens when we run a small process that loads a file and then inserts the data to the db. Please if anybody has any thought on this help me

• How to get SVN to ignore a directory inside an externals definition

  I'm using subversion to host my own repository for a WordPress installation. I've got it set up so that all of the core WordPress files are in their own directory (called wordpress) and set up to use svn:externals to link to the WordPress repository. I then have my own copy of the wp-content directory (located outside of the wordpress directory) which does not use svn:externals. This is all working fine. When I update my repository, the WordPress core gets updated. Since the WordPress repository contains it's own wp-content directory, it also updates that directory. So my file structure ends up looking something like this: / --/wordpress/ (wordpress repo) -----/wp-admin/ -----/wp-content/ --/wp-content/ (my local repo) I end up having two separate versions of the wp-content folder (one from my repo and one from the WordPress repo). I don't want the one from the WordPress repo (or at least not in that location). Is there a way for me to set svn to ignore the wordpress/wp-content directory while still using externals definition?

I know my code isn't right but when I run it, it creates 2 windows instead, one with just the title tk and another bigger window with "Simple Prog". How do I make it so that the tk window has the title "Simple Prog" instead of having a new additional window. • Custom Sorting on Custom Field in Django

  In my app, I have defined a custom field to represent a physical quantity using the quantities package. class AmountField(models.CharField): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): ... def to_python(self, value): create_quantities_value(value) Essentially the way it works is it extends CharField to store the value as a string in the database "12 min" and represents it as a quantities object when using the field in a model array(12) * min Then in a model it is used as such: class MyModel(models.Model): group = models.CharField() amount = AmountField() class Meta: ordering = ['group', 'amount'] My issue is that these fields do not seem to sort by the quantity, but instead by the string. So if I have some objects that contain something like {"group":"A", "amount":"12 min"} {"group":"A", "amount":"20 min"} {"group":"A", "amount":"2 min"} {"group":"B", "amount":"20 min"} {"group":"B", "amount":"1 hr"} they end up sorted something like this: >>> MyModel.objects.all() [{A, 12 min}, {A, 2 min}, {A, 20 min}, {B, 1 hr}, {B, 20 min}] essentially alphabetical order. Can I give my custom AmountField a comparison function so that it will compare by the python value instead of the DB value?

• Stack memory in Android

  I'm writing an app that has a foreground service, content provider, and a Activity front end that binds to the service and gets back a List of objects using AIDL. The service does work and updates a database. If I leave the activity open for 4-8+ hours, and go to the "Running Services" section under settings on the phone (Nexus One) an unusually large amount of memory being used is shown (~42MB). I figure there is a leak. When I check the heap memory i get Heap size:~18MB, ~2MB allocated, ~16MB free. Analyzing the hprof in Eclipse MAT seems fine, which leads me to theorize that memory is leaking on the stack. Is this even possible? If it is, what can I do to stop or investigate the leak? Is the reported memory usage on the "Running Services" section of android even correct (I assume it is)? Another note: I have been unable to reproduce this issue when the UI is not up (with only the service running)

• emacs: force ido-mode to forget history...

  Hi, I wonder if I can keep ido from not remembering my history and only show completions for files that are in the current directory when I am searching for a file. I understand that this history feature is useful at times, but I often end up editing the incorrect file because I think I am editing file called 'abc.txt' in the current directory but in fact I am editing the file by the same name in another one that I previously visited (often happens when there is not an 'abc.txt' in the current directory, as I mistakenly assume). From reading the ido.el file I thought to set in my .emacs file (also evaluated these expressions in running emacs instance): (custom-set-variables '(ido-enable-last-directory-history nil) '(ido-record-commands nil) ) and deleted a file called .ido.last in ~/, but still it remembers some previous files I've visited before making these changes. How can I purge my previous history, and I am not entirely sure what the difference between the two variables above are but seems to have done the trick to keep ido from remembering files I visit in the future?   Hi, I have an iphone app that needs to work for 3.1.3 for the iPhone and 3.2 for the iPad. It is an iPhone app that I want to work on the iPad. The main difference is the MPMoviePlayerController which introduces/and deprecates lots of things in 3.2. Since, the iPhone OS only goes up to 3.1.3 and the iPad is on 3.2, I need to seperate my code so it only compiles the required code for the respective OS. I can't use [[UIDevice currentDevice] model] because I end up with deprecated warnings on the 3.1.3 code. Also, UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad is new in 3.2 so it doesn't work well with 3.1.3... So, I decided to use this, which only compiles what is necessary for the particular OS: #if __IPHONE _3_2 //do 3.2 iPad stuff #else //do 3.1.3 iPhone/iPod Touch stuff #endif My question is... • Table comment length in mysql

  According to MySQL manual, table comments are limited to 60 characters. I'm designing the schema in MySQL Workbench, which does not enforce this limit, so I end up with writing more than 60 symbols quite often, and this causes the SQL script to fail. To tell the truth I would be quite happy with table comments being internal to my schema (i.e. not exported to the actual database), but Workbench doesn't allow this either. Hence my question: is there a way to increase maximum length of table comment in MySQL to 255?

I have tried to Dim the array inside the case statements, but then I cannot use the array in the For Each, which makes this worthless.... any ideas would be appreciated. • Creating a Web Wrapper for COM and OCX

  Hi guys, Today we have a windows application that, using an OCX, creates a web page (visible by a WebBrowser control in a small .NET WinForm application) and communicates through COM to the main application/client. (not relevant but this is Pascal) I'm currently responsible to re create this application in a web environment so we can have the same functionality shared through Web as the user can see the same in a Web Browser. The Windows application has almost 4 years on it and I need to re create everything from scratch, and all the bugs/features find in the future in the Windows Application I have to re create them again in the Web... Ohh well, you can see where this will end. I was thinking... is there any way I can create a Wrapper, even using 3rd party commercial objects, to: Communicate with the COM Object Can expose the content of the OCX (this in my most confortable language, ASP.NET C#, but other are welcome) I was thinking out loud, can this be accomplish with a Java Applet? Any ideas or any point to the right road will be appreciated.

  ASP.NET Ajax Library provides some client-side events. For instance: Sys.Application.add_load( function(args) { // handle the end of any asynchronous post-back. Every-time there's // a server round-trip, this method will be called. } ); During the asynchronous post-back I want to retrieve information to the client. This information must be available in some event like the discribed above. Does the UpdatePanel or the ScriptManager have any server-side way to retrieve data back to client during an asynchronous post-back?

• HTML Table <thead> Position Fixed

  Variations of this question have been answered, but none of which dealing with my issue. I don't know if this can be achieved or not but I thought if anyone knew they would know on here. I have a table with a thead and one row with many columns. I want the thead to remain fixed (the row is extremely long) however when the thead is fixed, it gets cut off at the end of the browser. Is there a way I can keep it fixed but when you scroll horozontally for the entire page you can see the rest of the thead?

• Ho to launch Choose File dialog on Mac

  Hi All, I am using LSOpenItemsWithRole() to open any file from my appication. It works fine for all files which has a default application to get opened on Mac, but for the files which cannot be open with any default application this method returns an error kLSApplicationNotFoundErr and does nothing. For such cases I want my application to launch the "Choose Application" dialog box, so that end user can choose any application from there to open the file. This dialog box pops up whenever any such file is directly opened by double clickig. Is there is any direct API call to do the same? any help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance! Manish

• Best practice for making code portable for domains, subdomains or directores

  I recently coded something where it wasn't known if the end code would reside in a subdomain (http://user.domain.com/) or in a subdomain (http://domain.com/user), and I was lost as to the best practice for these unknown scenarios. I could thinks of a couple: Use absolute paths (/css/styles.css) and modrewrite if it ends up being /user Have a settings file and declare a variable with the path (<? php echo $domain . "/css/styles" ?>) Use relative paths (../css/styles.css). What is the best way to handle this?
