  • Android: heavy traffic on server causes app to force close

    I have developed an app to communicate with my own server and published it. However, sometimes the app force closes. I know there is no bug in the code because the app works properly most of the time, but sometimes it is waiting for an answer from the server forever. I think this is due to the fact that so many people are using the app, and the app refreshes every 1 second or so, so this heavy traffic causes the server to take a large amount of time to respond. So how do you take care of such a use case? should I have a use case where if the server does not respond after some time you just stop the app and throw a message saying that the server is not responding or something like that?

  • modify the name of the :id to :another_id in rails 3

    Well I googled my question but I couldn't find anything or I it's not the correct question.. The issue is I need modify the primary_key name of the database :id with :another_id, in my project I need to use pgrouting and it contains several plsql functions and these functions uses the primary-key with the name gid and instead of modify the plsql functions is better change the id name, and I was thinking do this with a migration becouse I thought it's the rails way. Is it possible, and how I can do this ?? Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

    Hi, I'm having a problem with properties of the following type: id<ProtocolName> variableName; ..... ..... @property (nonatomic, retain) id<ProtocolName> variableName; I can access and use them just fine, but when I try to call [variableName release]; I get compiler warnings: '-release' not found in protocol(s) Do I need to define a release method in the interface, or how do I release the memory reserved for the variable?   • Displaying name instead of ID PHP MySQL

    Hi, I need something simple; I have page where a user clicks an author to see the books associated with that author. On my page displaying the list of books for the author, I want a simple HTML title saying: 'The books for: AUTHORNAME' I can get the page to display author ID but not the name. When the user clicks the link in the previous page of the author, it looks likes this: <a href="viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=<?php echo $row['author_id']?>"><?php echo $row['authorname']?></a> And then on the 'viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23' I have declared this at the start: $author_id = $_GET['author_id']; $authorname = $_GET['authorname']; And finally, 'The books for: AUTHORNAME, where it says AUTHORNAME, I have this: echo $authorname (With PHP tags, buts its not letting me put them in!) And this doesnt show anything, however if I change it to author_id, it displays the correct author ID that has been clicked, but its not exactly user friendly!! Can anyone help me out!

  • Using Remote Web Page to Initialize iPhone App

    My iPhone app relies on a vendor's XML feed to provide data. But that feed is not locked down. The vendor could change the format of the XML at any time, although so far they've promised not to. Since I might want to tell my app to use a different URL for its data source, I'd like to set up a single "Command Central" Web page, on my own server, to direct the app to the correct data source. In other words, each time my app starts, in the background and unseen by the user, it would visit "http://www.myserver.com/iphoneapp_data_sources.xml" to retrieve the URL for retrieving data from my vendor. That way, if my vendor suddenly changes the exact URL or the XML feed that the app needs, I can update that Web page and ensure that all installations of the app are using the correct XML feed. Does anyone have any advice or examples showing this kind of approach? It seems as if this must be a common problem, but so far I haven't found a well-established design pattern that fits it.

(2015 or something like that.)     Hi, we have a web application that users can take online reports from ou ERP system data... And we have another web application that is used by our teachers and employees. We can't change the ERP web app because its a closed DLL, in this case we made some extended functionality in our custom internal web app and we are willing to put this functionality on the "menu" of the ERP web app. I need to integrate the two applications in the following way: When I click in the menu of the ERP web app, I want that our internal web app assert that the click have come from our ERP web app and not typed in the URL, this is possible?

  • Boilerplate Terms & Conditions for web app? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: What are some good resources for generating privacy policies and terms of use? I am just about done creating my first web application. Since the application stores some user data, I want to make sure that I can not be held liable should something bad happen to the site. I googled around but I could only find boilerplate T&Cs for websites, not for web apps. Does anybody know where I can find such a boilerplate agreement that I can use? I realize that this won't be 100% security, but it's better than nothing I suppose.
