It is often heard as argument that the high spec workstations increase the productivity (or the low spec machines impact productivity to the greater extent). To me it sound reasonable, however I'd like to verify the statement with some studies if such exists. Can you help me with that?

  • Cannot Login To phpMyAdmin

    I'm running a simple LAMP server at home from which I host a personal blog. The server is running Arch Linux, with the latest-and-greatest versions of Apache, MySQL, and PHP. In order to easily maintain the databases, I installed phpMyAdmin. However, I cannot login. If I were to SSH into the server and run mysql -u <user> -p <password>, no errors show up and I'm immediately placed into the MySQL prompt. No problem. However, when I try to log in with phpMyAdmin, using those exact same credentials, nothing happens. No errors, no nothing, I'm just redirected back to the login page. Did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance for any and all answers!

    TLDR I want toggle between the following usages of a usb-port via the terminal: use like a normal usb-port only supply energy to charge Story I recently got me something like a magna doodle that can save your drawings to pdf, which can be moved to your computer via usb afterwards. Now the thing is that you can't save anything while it's plugged in. Because it's the only way to charge it, it bugs me that I can't find a software solution and laziness I want to keep it plugged in and toggle the connection to the computer only when needed. I noticed that it's charging and usable when it is plugged in and the computer is shut down or suspened. So I guess that there's a way to do it.     Hello, I looked a bit but didn't see any duplicate of this so my question is which free(open source) OS do you use on servers and why do you use that OS? Background I have a VPS at Linode. There is a broad range of options for which OS I can put on it including both 32 and 64bit OSs. I just use it to run my small blog and for hosting random files. It's very low traffic. I have been using 64bit Arch Linux on my VPS and though I love the OS for general usage, for a server the constant breakage is troublesome. So I'm considering trying something new and am looking for suggestions.

    I'm running with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on Dell Latitude E6420. The inbuilt microphone is not working, and is not listed on the sound settings dialog. According to lspci, the device is: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) I've also looked at alsamixer, and can see a "mic" and "dock mic" but fiddling with these and increasing to max amplification doesn't appear to change anything.   • Architecture : am I doing things right?

    I'm trying to use a '~classic' layered arch using .NET and Entity Framework. We are starting from a legacy database which is a little bit crappy: Inconsistent naming Unneeded views (view referencing other views, select * views etc...) Aggregated columns Potatoes and Carrots in the same table etc... So I ended with fully isolating my database structure from my domain model. To do so EF entities are hidden from presentation layer. The goal is to permit an easier database refactoring while lowering the impact of it on applications. I'm now facing a lot of challenges and I'm starting to ask myself if I'm doing things right. My Domain Model is highly volatile, it keeps evolving with apps as new fields needs are arising. Complexity of it keeps raising and class it contains start to get a lot of properties. Creating include strategy and reprojecting to EF is very tricky (my domain objects don't have any kind of lazy/eager loading relationship properties): DomainInclude<Domain.Model.Bar>.Include("Customers").Include("Customers.Friends") // To... IFooContext.Bars.Include(...).Include(...).Where(...) Some framework are raping the isolation levels (Devexpress Grids which needs either XPO or IQueryable for filtering and paging large data sets) I'm starting to ask myself if : the isolation of EF auto-generated entities is an unneeded cost. I should allow frameworks to hit IQueryable? Slow slope to hell? (it's really hard to isolate DevExpress framework, any successful experience?) the high volatility of my domain model is normal? Did you have similar difficulties? Any advice based on experience?
