  • Reopening serial port fails if not closed properly with CloseHandle

    I am working with USB device on Windows that is seen as a virtual serial port. I can communicate with the device using CreateFile and ReadFile functions, but in some cases my application does not call CloseHandle (when my application in development crashes). After that all calls to CreateFile fail (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED), and the only solution is to log in to my computer again. Is there any way to force closing the open handle (or reopening) programmatically?

    In short, why use something like http://stackoverflow.com/badges/6/supporter instead of something "simpler" (and subjectively, at that) like http://stackoverflow.com/badges/6/. Even on my own site I've just been using /post/6/ to reference posts (by IDs, even though I still store a slug.) Instead of /post/6/small-rant-on-urls, and in some cases, they can get even more absurd, much more so than is really necessary.

    Any code I've seen that uses Regexes tends to use them as a black box: Put in string Magic Regex Get out string This doesn't seem a particularly good idea to use in production code, as even a small change can often result in a completely different regex. Apart from cases where the standard is permanent and unchanging, are regexes the way to do things, or is it better to try different methods?

  • How to NSZombieEnabled for debugging EXC_BAD_ACCESS on release target for an iPhone app?

    I'm developing an iPhone application. I have an EXC_BAD_ACCESS that occurs only in the release target; when I build the debug target the exception does not occur. However, when I set the NSZombieEnabled environment variable to YES, I still get the EXC_BAD_ACCESS with no further information. Is it even possible for NSZombieEnabled to work when executing the release target? I don't see why not, since gdb is running in both cases...

    Hi - I'm getting JSON-encoded output from another organization's API. In many cases, the output can be either an array of objects (if there are many) or an object (if there's just one).     I can't seem to get either EmptyDataTemplate or EmptyDataText of a GridView to work. I'm fetching the GridView contents in de codebehind and attaching them with using DataBind(). I've tried having them as null and as an empty List, and in both cases the text I put into EmptyDataTemplate or EmptyDataText is not displayed. What am I doing wrong?

  • Rolling back a transaction in a Grails Service

    I have been updating all my services to be transactional by using Grail's ability to rollback when a RuntimeException is thrown in the service. I have, in most cases, doing this: def domain = new Domain(field: field) if (!domain.save()) { throw new RuntimeException() } Anyways, I wanted to verify that this indeed will rollback the transaction... it got me thinking as to whether at this point it's already been committed.. Also, if not, would setting flush:true change that? I am not very familiar with how Spring/Hibernate does all of this :)

    I have a function that returns a tuple that, among others, contains a float value. Usually I use assertAlmostEquals to compare those, but this does not work with tuples. Also, the tuple contains other data-types as well. Currently I am asserting every element of the tuple individually, but that gets too much for a list of such tuples. Is there any good way to write assertions for such cases?

  • Jmeter- HTTP Cache Manager, Unable to cache everything what it is being cached by Browser

    I used HTTP Chache Manager to Cache files which are being cached in browser. I am successful of doing it for some of the pages. Number of files being cached in Jmeter is equal to Number of files being cached by browser. But in some cases : I found number files being cached is lesser than the files being cached by browser. Using Jmeter I found only 5 files are being cached but in real browser 12 files are getting cached. Thanks in advance

    Apple, for memory management issues, recommend defining outlets on properties, not in the attribute declaration. But, as far as I know, declaring properties exposes the class to external classes, so this could be dangerous. On UIViewController we have the main view definition and the logic, so MVC is slightly cheated in this cases. What is the beteer approach, Apples's recommendation for memory-management or armored classes?

    .Net has the built in ToShortDateString() function for DateTime that uses the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortTimePattern format. It returns something like this for en-US: "5:00 pm". For a 24 hour culture such as de-DE it would return "17:00". What I want is a way to just return just the hour (So "5 pm" and "17" in the cases above) that works with every culture. What's the best/cleanest way to do this? Thanks!

    Hello all, I have added a UIButton in the header section of the UITableView via the interface builder and would like to remove the access to the button in certain cases. I have tried to use the '.hidden = TRUE' property but it just hides the button from the view, leaving a white space behind. How do I programmatically remove the header of UITableView and have the table's content automatically resizes to fill in the removed header area?

    I have strings of this type: text (more text) What I would like to do is to have a regular expression that extracts the "more text" segment of the string, so far I have been using this regular expression: "^.*\\((.*)\\)$" Which although it works on many cases, it seems to fail if I have something of the sort: text (more text (even more text)) What I get is: even more text) What I would like to get instead is: more text (even more text) (basically the content of the outermost pair of brackets.)   • Difference of function argument as (const int &) and (int & a) in C++

    I know that if you write void function_name(int& a), then function will not do local copy of your variable passed as argument. Also have met in literature that you should write void function_name(const int & a) in order to say compiler, that I dont want the variable passed as argument to be copied. So my question: what is the difference with this two cases (except that "const" enshures that the variable passes will not be changed by function!!!)???

    Hi, I have a radio group which is validated for required. It works fine except when in certain cases I need to disabled first radio button leaving user to select one from remaining. Even in this case radios are validated but error message is not displayed. I believe its due to error message's association with first radio. Disabling other radio except first works fine too.     Our software must be able to run on SQL Server 2000 and 2005. To simplify development, we're running our SQL Server 2005 databases in compatibility level 80. However, database performance seems slower on SQL 2005 than on SQL 2000 in some cases (we have not confirmed this using benchmarks yet). Would upgrading the compatibility level to 90 improve performance on the SQL 2005 servers?
