• Calling overridden method from within overriding method in OO PHP

  Working in a symfony model, I want to override a function and call the overridden function from within the overriding one, along the lines of class MyClass extends BaseMyClass { function setMyProperty($p) { parent::setMyProperty($p); //do some other stuff } } This is resulting in a segmentation fault. I don't want to alter the parent class - it's been generated by symfony, and may feasibly be overwritten in the future if the model is rebuilt. This seems like something that should be straightforward, but I'm struggling to find the solution. Thanks for any advice

• 2 roles, admin and user. Is using anything other than basic http auth overkill?

  I'm building my first website with rails,it consists of a blog, a few static pages and a photo gallery. The admin section has namespaced controllers. I also want to create a mailing list, collecting contact info, (maybe a spree store in the future too.) Should I just use basic http authentication and check if the user is admin? Or is a plugin like authlogic better, then define user roles even though there would only be two; admin and user?

  I have some (local) repositories, an original and some clones. The original repository has been corrupted so I'd like to get rid of it and use one of the clones as the master for future development. Is there a better way to break the connection between the new master and the original repository than simply deleting the default entry in the [paths] section of that clone's hgrc? Similarly, in the other clones, can I simply change the default entry in their hgrc files' [paths] section to point to the new master repository?

  Hi, I have a StreamReader object that I initialized with a stream, now I want to save this stream to disk (the stream may be a gif or jpg or pdf etc).   We are using the standard aspnet security features, we have need to set the order of the roles, purely for display purposes. We could just have a sequence number onto the end of the aspnet_roles table, but that feels kinds of hacky to me. Also if in future versions of asp the security get changed we will be in trouble. Is there a better way to do this that won't make me loose sleep each time a new version is pushed out?

I'm looking for an updated version of the assembly or an alternate enum type that supports it. The existing enum has a value for Timestamp, but according to the rowversion documentation, timestamp is "deprecated and will be removed in a future version". I prefer to avoid using deprecated things :)
