So, what significant lost advances that happened on a side track should be revived in the main stream of software? These would be ideas that worked well in their context but a different context appeared and became dominant the context, even though it lacked the idea. It maybe that in the new dominant context one just cannot do something or it requires great effort to be exerted.

  • Hosted News Carousel

    I'm trying to add a news carousel on my OneHub site. I know there are quite a few plugins that I can use, but I'm looking for a ready-to-use hosted solution where people can log-on and manage the content, and I can simply include as an iFrame widget on our OneHub site. We would prefer to use Expression Engine, since we're using this on some of our other websites. It looks like Expression Engine + JQuery Cycle Rotator might be an option, not sure how easily I can get this onto OneHub though... WordPress has a carousel plugin as well that I'll explore. Anyhow, while I'm trying out these options, I figured I would put a question out there for any thoughts or advice, other solutions, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Alan

    Related to this question, what is the best practice for naming a mutex? I realize this may vary with OS and even with version (esp for Windows), so please specify platform in answering. My interest is in Win XP and Vista. EDIT: I am motivated by curiousity, because in Rob Kennedy's comment under his (excellent) Answer to the above-linked Question, he implied that the choice of mutex name is non-trivial and should be the subject of a separate question.     I have a database of airports with Latitude and Longitude for each point. I want to run a PHP script to find all airports that are nearby a given airport, with their distance and relative direction. I.e. for Airport KLDJ (40-37-02.810N 074-14-40.539W) Airport Nearby KJFK - John F Kennedy Airport (21.2 nm NE) (40-38-23.104N 073-46-44.132W) I have used code from http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html to find distance, and tried to use it to find bearing, which might not be right. //BEARING RHUMB LINE $phi = log(tan($lat2/2+pi/4)/tan($lat1/2+pi/4)); $distance['bearing'] = (rad2deg(atan2($theta, $phi)) +180) % 360; I basically want to run all points through this script and find the distance, which I have already, but then the direction. (i.e. N, S, W, E, NW, SW, NE, SE)

  • django i18n and translations problem

    Hello I have a problem with django translations. Problem 1 - i updated string in django.po file, but the change does not appear on the webpage. Problem 2 - i have created my own locale file with django-admin.py makemessages -l et, added the translation string into file, but they too do not appear on the page. I do not think this is setting problem, because the translations from django.po file do appear on the website, its just the changes and the translations from my own generated file that do not appear.     Hi all, Currently, i have a class MyAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin), and i have a field in there called name, which belongs to both list_editable and list_display. The current behavior is such that all fields that is in list_editable displays a form field. However, i would like to change that only when people click on the field would it turn into a editable form field. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do that (which template to edit etc.). Thank you very much! Jason
