    What is the simplest way to package a Scala application for use on a desktop PC? I'm guessing that would be in the form of a jar file.     My project contains WinForms, WPF, and Windows Service programs running on users' office desktop PCs. I want these applications to periodically check for new versions available at specific URL, automatically download new versions and replace themselves with new versions without attracting any user attention (keeping in mind that users may run Windows from XP to 7 and work using non-privileged account (which can be part of active directory)). Alternatively the whole update package has to be able to be distributed as an unattended-installed MSI package. Any recommendations on implementing this?

  • Detached views in eclipse on linux

    Hi, When i detach wiews in eclipse on ubuntu, eg package explorer, it shows up as a separate window in ubuntu (Eclipse ends up taking up 4 windows, and that makes alt-tabbing through my open programs a pain) Is there a way to fix this so Eclipse only show up as one window in ubuntu no matter how many vews are detached?

    I want to provide 'install' target for Makefile for web application. I'd like to be able to install it, for example like described below: $ make install \ xxxdir=/var/www/cgi-bin (similarly to how one would use 'bindir' for ordinary programs, and 'mandir' / 'infodir' for documentation). Is there any standard (similar to autotools 'bindir', 'sharedir', etc.) for the name of 'xxxdir' variable in above example? How do you think should such build configuration variable be named?

    I have a .NET app (webforms - .NET 3.5) that is running on a 64-bit server as 32-bit (I checked the IntPtr.Size result). The compilation is set to AnyCPU so I would expect that on a 64-bit machine, the app would be run at 64-bit. There are many Third-party programs incorporated into the app, could they be causing a problem? How do I figure out why 64-bit compilation is not being done?

    C++ is my first language, and as such I'm used to whitespace being ignored. However, I've been toying around with Python, and I don't find it too hard to get used to the whitespace rules. It seems, however, that a lot of programmers on the Internet can't get past the whitespace rules. From what I've seen, peoples' C++ programs tend to be formatted very consistently with respect to whitespace (or else it's pretty hard to read), so why do some people have such a problem with whitespace-based languages like Python?

I have a "for" loop in the script, but it won't work unless I use only integers: #!/bin/bash for (( i=10; i<=100000; i+=100)) do ./hw3_2_2 $i done The variable $i is an input for the program hw3_2_2, and I have non-integer values I'd like to use. How could I loop through running the code with a list of decimal numbers?

  • why is win7/ie8 favorites the start menu? [closed]

    does anyone know why Win7 Pro IE8 favorites are really the programs in the start menu? I don't see the point, there are usually tons of folders here so it is hard to find internet shortcuts, and why would I want to open a program from IE? I don't like to IE but Firefox usually freezes up on Win7 after 15 minutes...so I am using IE8 more and more. any ideas? thanks
