  • In Scrum, should a team remove points from (defect) stories that don't result in a code change?

    My work uses a Scrum-like process to manage projects. I say Scrum-like, because we call it Scrum, but our project managers exclude aspects of Scrum that are inconvenient (most notably customer interaction). One of the stories in our current sprint was to correct a defect. After spending almost an entire day working on the issue, I determined the issue was the result of a permissions issue, so I didn't end up modifying any code. Our Scrum master / project manager decided that no code change equals zero points. I know that Scrum points are supposed to measure size / complexity and not time, but our Scrum master invests a lot of time in preparing graphs and statistical information from past sprints (average velocity, average points completed, etc.) I've always been of the opinion that for statistics to be meaningful in any way, the data must be as accurate as possible. All of our data is fuzzy to begin with, because, from time to time, we're encouraged by the Scrum master to "adjust" our size / complexity estimates, both increasing and decreasing them. I'd like to hear some other developers / Scrum team members thoughts on the merits of statistics based on past sprints, and also whether they think it's appropriate to "adjust" size / complexity estimates in the middle of a sprint, or the remove all points from a story all together for situations similar to what I've just described.

    I am looking to open up a file, grab the last line in the file where the line = "?", which is the closing tag for a php document. Than I am wanting to append data into it and add back in the "?" to the very last line. I've been trying a few approaches, but I'm not having any luck. Here's what I got so far, as I am reading from a zip file.     I'd like to remove all invalid UTF-8 characters from a string in JavaScript. I've tried using the approach described here (link removed) and came up with the JavaScript: strTest = strTest.replace(/([\x00-\x7F]|[\xC0-\xDF][\x80-\xBF]|[\xE0-\xEF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|[\xF0-\xF7][\x80-\xBF]{3})|./, "$1"); It seems that the UTF-8 validation regex described here (link removed) is more complete and I adapted it in the same way like: strTest = strTest.replace(/([\x09\x0A\x0D\x20-\x7E]|[\xC2-\xDF][\x80-\xBF]|\xE0[\xA0-\xBF][\x80-\xBF]|[\xE1-\xEC\xEE\xEF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|\xED[\x80-\x9F][\x80-\xBF]|\xF0[\x90-\xBF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|[\xF1-\xF3][\x80-\xBF]{3}|\xF4[\x80-\x8F][\x80-\xBF]{2})|./, "$1"); Both of these pieces of code seem to be allowing valid UTF-8 through, but aren't filtering out hardly any of the bad UTF-8 characters from my test data: UTF-8 decoder capability and stress test. Either the bad characters come through unchanged or seem to have some of their bytes removed creating a new, invalid character. I'm not very familiar with the UTF-8 standard or with multibyte in JavaScript so I'm not sure if I'm failing to represent proper UTF-8 in the regex or if I'm applying that regex improperly in JavaScript.   • Should a "script" tag be allowed to remove itself?

    We've been having a discussion at our workplace on this with some for and some against the behavior. Wanted to hear views from you guys : <html> <body> <div> Test! <script> document.body.removeChild(document.getElementsByTagName('div')[0]); </script> </div> </body> </html> Should the above script work and do what it's supposed to do? First, let's see what's happening here : I have a javascript that's inside the <div> element. This javascript will delete the child node within body which happens to hold the div inside which the script itself exists. Now, the above script works fine in Firefox, Opera and IE8. But IE6 and IE7 give an alert saying they cannot open the page. Let's not debate on how IE should have handled this (they've accepted it as a bug and hence fixed it in IE8). The point here is since the 'SCRIPT' tag itself is a part of DOM, should it be allowed to do something like this? Should it even exist after such an operation? Edit: Firefox, Opera, IE9 etc. do not remove the 'script' tag if I run the above code. But, document.getElementsByTagName('script').length returns 0! To understand what I mean, add alert(document.getElementsByTagName('script').length); before and after document.body.removeChild(document.getElementsByTagName('div')[0]); in the code above.

  • How much time do I have to remove a domain controller that was lost using metadata cleanup?

    I am wondering how long after a Domain Controller has been permanently lost, from the domain due to it dying from hardware perspective, do I have before I have to clean up references of it using meta data cleanup? Planning on doing it soon but not sure if there is anything I should be concerned about. This dead or lost domain controller had no roles other than being a Domain Controller and having integrated Active Directory DNS. As well it held NO FSMO roles, it was just an older replication Domain Controller.

  • Should I remove all unmanged switches from my network?

    I have a office network with approx 150 devices (computers/printers/ip phones). Almost all of the end point devices have straight run Cat5e from my Hp switches directly to the device. IP phones for each end user sit between the hp switch and computer. (hp switch - in to phone out of phone in to computer) While I have gotten rid of most of them, I still have a couple linksys unmanaged switches that split off to 2 or more devices. I have heard various reasons for removing these switches but not entirely sure if it actually degrades the network. I agree that eliminating these switches certainly cleans up the network from a management standpoint. Are these unmanaged switches bad for my network? Is there a clear advantage to having 'home run' cable runs to each of my end point devices?

  • VirtualBox reinstalling & updating has left me with Too Many Network Adapters. How Do i remove them?

    I have too many network adapters. I have had to reinstall, repair VirtualBox a few times, and I have three NICs in my laptop. I definitely don't need to have 14 bridged networking drivers though, and I cannot uninstall them. I only want to keep the new ones that came with VirtualBox 4.1.20. When I go into the registry there are tons of places with these adapters. I have searched online up to 10 pages of Google, and VirtualBox forums, and no one has mentioned this problem nor explained how to delete these annoying extra network adapters. Please offer some assistance or at least tell me how anybody else has dealt with this. I only need 1 host-only network adapter, 1 bridged networking adapter for each of my network cards.     The on screen keyboard (OSK) from the "ease of access" tools pops up on EVERY connect to the server, even if you have not activated it. I can't seem to find a control panel or reg setting to switch it off. It is VERY "in your face" for linux users who connect at lower resolutions and do not provide all credentials, but have to type username and password. Windows sees it also as two identical usb devices, and mounts two separate drives to system, whereas first one presents itself as a CDROM device, holding a write-protected content, and second is a regular flash-disk partition, that "can" be written to. However, it seems like it's broken in some weird way, since it won't let me write anything to it, format it, nothing, but that's not the issue right now. Question: How can I unlock entire USB stick so it appears to system as a single, 8GB device which can be partitioned and used normally, without restrictions? Since it appeared to be an U3 device, I have tried standard utilities: both U3 Uninstaller by u3.com (found on SoftPedia), and opensource u3_tool from sourceforge (on both Windows and Linux). First utility failed to even detect USB stick as U3 device (simply stood idle while I re-plugged stick several times), while second tool failed with some obscure error about SCSI command unable to do something (I might be able to provide exact errors when I switch back to windows). u3_tool -i /dev/sg3 (Display device info) fails with u3_partition_info() failed: Device reported command failed: status 1 ...and every other option fails with same error, minus first part which states which command precisely has failed. So, apparently, this isn't a U3 device. Or, if it is, it doesn't behave like one. I read on a few occasions that this device protection is done by special command sent to device which tells it to lock itself, and so there should be an unlock command, that would set drive straight. Does anyone have any idea about what could I do to this device to fix it? P.S. I also mentioned a problem with being unable to use second "drive", but I'll tackle that problem when (and if) I manage to merge those two devices into one...

    Whenever I record with my microphone, I get this constant beep sound on the background. It appears only when I turn volume up, so it is not very loud, but its noticable and pretty annoying.   • Is there any automatic tool to remove edges from an image that has been anti-aliased onto a white ba

    I have a few images that have been anti-aliased onto a white background that I want to put on a transparent background. Just selecting it with the -wand tool/fuzzy select tool/select your terminology of choice- and deleting the background tends to leave a ring of off-white pixels around the image, or eat into the image depending on the tolerance setting. Is there some better way to do this, preferably an automatic tool? (I'm on Linux)

    I've installed MSSQL server correctly, then I took some wrong turns and I'm now left in a pretty undesirable state. I wanted to change the server instance to another drive, so I uninstalled SQL server and all of it's features from the Programs and Features control panel. Now when I tried to install a new instance, I got a few errors, but it still installed most of them: Then I tried to run a repair, which I figured would fix things, but it throws an exception about not being able to read something from the CD (tried more than once always the same exception) Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file R:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\SSCERuntime_x86-enu.msi , and it fails to repair a few of the features: And I don't have the server instance installed either. So I'm left with no MSSQLMS, no server instance, and no happiness. What would be the best course of action here?

  • Migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 - remove old 03 computer account?

    Migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2007 back in February of this year. I've still got the old exchange computer account in AD. Can I simply delete the computer account or will bad things start happening? I've looked in the Exchange 07 console and don't see the old server listed at all. HOWEVER: we do still have an old CNAME for this old Exchange server pointing to the new one for a few old clients that still have their mail server set to the old name...if that matters at all. I ran "get-exchangeserver" on the new server and the old one isn't listed at all.

  • "Automatically Connect" option for Mobile Broadband crashes GNOME Shell, how to remove network configurations?

    I'm using Fedora 15, in GNOME Shell, my mobile broadband connection was working absolutely fine, until I set the connection type to Connect Automatically using nm-connection-manager. Now, when I start the Fedora, the Top panel network icon shows red exclamation symbol and when I click it, instead of showing me available networks' list, it shows only "Network Settings", and when I open it, it shows GNOME 3's new Network Manager app, and it pops out the dialog saying that, "Current network settings service is incompatible with this version". And after a few seconds of log in, the shell freezes and all I can do is log out using Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace. I'm facing this problem since I opened old network manager app using nm-connection-manager in the run dialog, and editing my connection to connect automatically. After logging in to the shell I somehow managed to delete that connection from the same app and created a new one, but the problem still exists. How can I delete all network preferences (by deleting its configuration files from my home directory or something like that) and reset the GNOME 3's network manager to its default state?
