• Preventing $.POST hijack

  I'm currently building a facebook application. Lets say I have a variable $uid that identifies the user so I can store this in my database along with their submitted data. I pass $uid and $data via json encoded values using $.post. However, this doesn't prevent someone changing $uid to save data as someone else. I have been thinking about how to overcome this, so far I haven't found a solution apart from: create database with $uid $secretkey on first page load. When $.post send $secretkey with the post and then retrieve the $uid from the database. Would this be the correct approach to use?

• C# Stream Reader adding \n to XML

  I use the StreamReader class to obtain XML for my GeoCoding process from Google. StreamReader srGeoCode = new StreamReader(WebRequest.Create(Url).GetResponse().GetResponseStream()); String GeoCodeXml = srGeoCode.ReadToEnd(); XmlDocument XmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); GeoCode oGeoCode = new GeoCode(); XmlDoc.Load(GeoCodeXml); I get XML back but it adds \n and other extras to the XML <?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" ?>\n<kml xmlns=\"http://earth.google.com/kml/2.0\"><Response>\n <name> I have the same code in VB and it does not do this. I can successfully GeoCode my information using the VB version of this console app. Is there a reason the C# version adds this extra data to the XML that I retrieve back? I am trying my best to convert everything over to C#. I enjoy coding in it over VB.

  I would like to get a list of Active Directory users along with the security groups they are members of using SQL Server 2005 linked servers. I have the query working to retrieve records but I'm not sure how to access the memberOf attribute (it is a multi-value LDAP attribute). I have this temporary to store the information: DROP TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS CREATE TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS ( sAMAccountName varchar(30), UserGroup varchar(50) ) Each group/user association should be one row. This is my SELECT statement: SELECT sAMAccountName,memberOf FROM OpenQuery(ADSI, '<LDAP://hqdc04/DC=nt,DC=avs>; (&(objectClass=User)(sAMAccountName=9695)(sn=*)(mail=*)(userAccountControl=512)); sAMAccountName,memberOf;subtree') I get this error msg: OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'ADSDSOObject' IRowset::GetData returned 0x40eda: Data status returned from the provider: [COLUMN_NAME=memberOf STATUS=DBSTATUS_E_CANTCONVERTVALUE], [COLUMN_NAME=sAMAccountName STATUS=DBSTATUS_S_OK]]. • How to read in text from the visual studio debug output window

  I've read several articles that tell you how to add text to the output window in visual studio from within an Add-On (specifically, a visual studio 2008 integration package, via the visual studio 2008 SDK 1.1), but no examples of how to read text from the output window. My goal is to parse text from the debug output window while debugging a certain application (TRACE output and possibly stdin/stdout). The IVsOutputWindowPane interface has no methods for reading in text from the output window. The documentation seems to imply that it is possible, but it doesn't provide an example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166236(VS.80).aspx Quote: In addition, the OutputWindow and OutputWindowPane objects add some higher-level functionality to make it easier to enumerate the Output window panes and to retrieve text from the panes. • Facebook API - Get comments

  Our business has a Facebook Fan Page. The fan page doesn't seem to generate any emails to us when updates are made to the page, whether someone adds a new status or someone comments on one of the statuses etc. Currently, we are running a very crude script to grab the content of the page and then use regular expressions to get the information we require. Obviously this is not fool proof and I'm looking into alternatives to this method. I've been looking at the facebook API and wonder if the rest server might be an option. I cannot, however, seem to find out how to return information of fan page statuses and their comments. Is anyone able to direct me how to use the API to retrieve this information. I am an admin of the fan page. The programming language I'm using is PHP. Many thanks.

  I have the following requirements I have relational content stored in a SQL Server 2005 database. I want to retrieve this data, transform it and display it in an Excel 2007 document. I would like this to be pulled from within Excel at the click of a button. As far as I can tell I have the following options... Create a view in Sql Server and reference it within a pivot table using a data connection. Create an Excel workbook using VSTO and create a web service which the workbook pulls data from Create a web service and use JScript with XMLHTTP request objects I currently only have a little experience of any of these methods (I'm very familiar with SQL Server although not pivot tables, I've created many web services although I've never used VSTO and I've used javascript extensively, but never in the context of Excel manipulation). Would you recommend one of the above approaches or is there a better way to do this?

• Keep an object for the time the connection is running in ASP.NET

  Hi, I'm developing a web service with ASP.NET, is not an .asmx or WCF, it's a custom one, so I'm working with the Http classes (context, request, response, etc..). Session is disabled. I'm working with my own handler and module. I'd like to keep a object alive and accessible for the time the connection is alive. I mean, a request enters, I assign a DbCommand to it and that connection will use that command as long is doing things, when that connection is ended, the object should be disposed. I've thought, that I can add it to my IPrincipal implementation, then when the connection is authenticated in the module and the user retrieved, I can add that DbCommand to the IPrincipal, so I can retrieve it from wherever I want in the code, and after in the module EndRequest event, I can dispose it, but I don't know if there is a better approach to do this. What do you think? cheers

  Given a string in the format: XXX999999v99 (where X is any alpha character and v is any numeric character and v is a literal v character) how can I get a regex to match the numeric characters following the v? So far I've got 'v\d\d' which includes the v but ideally I'd like just the numeric part. As an aside does anyone know of a tool in which you can specify a string to match and have the regex generated? Modifying an existing regex is one thing but I find starting from scratch painful! Edit: Re-reading this question I realise it reads like a homework assignment! However I can assure you it's not, the strings I'm trying to match represent product versions appended to product codes. The current code uses all sorts of substring expressions to retrieve the version part.

• Properly handling unicode characters in Rails

  By default Rails allows users of our application to input non-utf8 data, such as: ¶®«¼ However when we attempt to retrieve the data from our database and render it in a template Rails incorrectly assumes that it is in UTF-8 format and throws an error. ArgumentError: invalid byte sequence in UTF-8 What is the best way to handle this? I have seen one fix that suggested sanitizing the data in every place the user can input it. However, that would involve changing a considerable amount of code and it would strip out the characters entirely. Ideally we would want some characters converted to their UTF-8 equivalents. Our environment: Ruby: 1.9.1 Rails 2.3.5 MySql Gem: 2.8.1 This is a serious and urgent problem for us so your answers are very appreciated!

• SVN post commit stucks while starting process

  Hi, I've built a script in VS that receives the 2 arguments sent by post-commit hook. The script runs SVN LOG to retrieve data about the revision (author, date, files). When I run the solution from VS with constant vars for the arguments, it runs perfectly. When I execute the exe file, also runs perfectly. • Are ORM's counterproductive to OO design?

  In OOD, design of an object is said to be characterized by its identity and behavior. Having used OR/M's in the past, the primary purpose, in my opinion, revolves around the ability to store/retrieve data. That is to say, OR/M objects are not design by behavior, but rather data (i.e. database tables). Case and point: Many OR/M tools come with a point-to-a-database-table-and-click-object-generator. If objects are no longer characterized by behavior this will, in my opinion, muddy the identity and responsibility of the objects. Subsequently, if objects are not defined by a responsibility this could lend a hand to having tightly coupled classes and overall poor design. Furthermore, I would think that in an application setting, you would be heading towards scalability issues. So, my question is, do you think that ORM's are counterproductive to OO design? Perhaps the underlying question would be whether or not they are counterproductive to application development.

However, if I put www.domain2.com, everything works fine. I don't see any difference between two VirtualHost config block, so I wonder what does make the difference.   Hello, to initialize a javascript loaded grid, I need to pass a list of values from controller/gsp. Since the javascript is activated once the page is rendered/loaded, there may not be a direct way to do it. 2 possibilities 1. do an ajax call, and retrieve the list of values from the server 2. store the list in html as a hidden element, and read it from javascript. option 2 seems better as it avoids few calls back to server. So, which control should I use for a list of values? Any jQuery code snippet to read it back into array/list. thanks in advance.

E.g., Emails: [email protected] [email protected] Salaries: 50000 60000 IDs: 2 1 The puzzle: I'd like to sort Emails such that [email protected] is first and [email protected] is last and Salaries is 60000 then 50000 and IDs is 1 then 2. Additional detail: 1. Length of lists are the same and can be longer than two elements. 2. I will subsequently pass IDs to functions to retrieve further lists. Those lists won't need sorting as they will adopt the order of the IDs list.

• Store in DB or not to store ?

  There are few string lists in my web application that i don't know where to store in DB or just class. ie. I have 7 major browsers with which users enter the site. I want to save these stats thus i need to create browser column in UserLogin database. I don't want to waste space and resources so i can save full browser name in each login row. So i either need to save browserID field and hook it up with Browsers table which will store names following db normalization rules or to have sort of Dataholder abstract class which has a list of browsers from which i can retrieve browser name by it's ID... The question what should i do ? These few data lists i have contain no more than 200 items each so i think it makes sense to have them as abstract class but again i don't know whether MS-SQL will handle multiple joins so well. Think of idea when i have user with country,ip,language,browser and few more stats .. thanks

• Retrieving cached data from existing Crystal Reports file

  Is there any way to retrieve the cached data from a previously refreshed report and say, dump it to a file? Basically, I'm looking for the dataset that is being used by the report, and hand-dragging each field onto the canvas or even exporting the file doesn't quite get me where I want. I'm not particular to a specific solution, be it .NET, vbscripting or even within the program itself... I'm not overly familiar with the Crystal Report object model, nor .NET, but it seems like with a setting like "EnableSaveDataWithReport", there ought to be a straightforward way. • Decimal numbers works in iPhone simulator but NOT on iPhone device

  Hi everybody, I noticed a weird behaviour of iPhone OS when using decimal values. The simulator parse them from strings in a correct way but when I test the app on my iPhone it lose the decimal part. The App on iPhone keeps on convert the string to a simple integer, forgetting the decimal part, while the app on iPhone simulator works fine!

  I'm trying to get MRT working in OpenGL to try out deferred rendering. Here's the situation as I understand it. Create 3 render buffers (for example). Two RGBA8 and one Depth32. Create an FBO. Attach render buffers to FBO. ColorAttachment0/1 for color buffers, DepthAttachment for depth buffer. Bind the FBO. Draw geometry. Send data to different attachments using gl_FragData[] in the frag shader. At this point I would want to take the data in another pass using GLSL, how can a) retrieve data from the framebuffer color attachments, b) get data from the depth component.

What SQL query would you use to SELECT all items in the table along with their depth where the depth of an item is the sum of all parents and grand parents of that item. • Hierarchical data in Linq - options and performance

  I have some hierarchical data - each entry has an id and a (nullable) parent entry id. I want to retrieve all entries in the tree under a given entry. This is in a SQL Server 2005 database. I am querying it with LINQ to SQL in C# 3.5. LINQ to SQL does not support Common Table Expressions directly. My choices are to assemble the data in code with several LINQ queries, or to make a view on the database that surfaces a CTE. Which option (or another option) do you think will perform better when data volumes get large? Is SQL Server 2008's HierarchyId type supported in Linq to SQL?
