  • What is the correct dependency rpm for libcurl.so.3

    So I have a failed dependency and I am having trouble downloading the correct rpm. The error is libcurl.so.3()(64bit) is needed. I have Centos 6 and I have looking in this site for the correct rpm. The problem though is, and this is another place where linux fails in being intuitive, is that the rpm name is different than the dependency name. So it might be a curl3 rpm or a libcurl3 rpm or I have no idea. Anyone know which one it is?

  • Configuring vsftpd with nginx on ubuntu

    I have vsftpd installed on Ubuntu 12.04LTS along with nginx, php, and sql on an Amazon ec2 instance. The web server is good to go, but I'm having trouble connecting to the FTP server. I'm not quite sure how to set the privileges or what configuration options I might be missing. By default, the location of the web root is at /usr/share/nginx/www and it is owned by root:root. The web server runs as user www-data in the group www-data. I've opened port 21 and set the passive ports in the ec2 backend and ufw firewall. In vsftpd.conf, I have: ... anonymous_enable=NO local_enable=YES local_umask=0027 chroot_local_user=YES pasv_enable=YES pas_max_port=12100 pasv_min_port=12000 port_enable=YES ... Now, I'm unsure how to create the FTP user that when I login, displays my web directory with write access. I've tried it a few different ways, but I keep running into errors (either no connection, no write access, or very slow timeouts.)

  • HP Officejet 6000 E609n unexpectedly goes offline

    My local library has a number of Windows Vista SP1 PCs connected to two HP Officejet 6000 E609n wireless printers. Each PC can print to either of the two printers and one of the two printers is the default on each PC. This configuration has worked well over the last year w/o any trouble. Recently, the library staff is reporting that sometimes when patrons try to print, they can't. Closer inspection shows that the the default wireless printer is offline. In order to get the printer online again, the printer has to be restarted. In Control Panel Printers applet, under the Printer menu, the "Use Printer Offline" option is grayed out and there's no way to bring the printer back online w/o restarting it. Does anyone know what's going on here?

    Our old AirPort Extreme station hit EOL, so we decided to upgrade it to a Time Capsule. Along the way, we're trying to also set it up with a separate guest network and port forwarding/NAT, however we're having trouble setting it up so that the time capsule is handling the DHCP leases instead of the router. We've got DSL through Verizon through a Westell modem/router to the Time Capsule. Done the RTFM thing, and we haven't been able to get it to work. Can anyone explain how to get things set up properly for this configuration?

  • Unable to log iptables

    I'm having trouble getting iptables to log to any file. My iptables looks like: Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 1366 packets, 433582 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination 869 60656 LOG icmp -- venet0 * 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 LOG flags 0 level 7 Syslogd is the only log helper running. The default syslog.conf didn't work, so I tried adding "kern.=debug -/var/log/iptables.log". But the file already has "kern.* -/var/log/kern.log". There are recent syslog entries, so it's not a permissions thing. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.1 with 2.6.32-042stab061.2

  • Is there a free ftp client that has macros

    At the moment I'm using filezilla to deploy new versions of a site to the live server. the trouble is that there are one or two config, bootstrap etc. files which are different for the live site and I have to be careful not to overwrite. Also there are big areas of code that never change (eg I use the zend framework, which is always the same). I'd like to be able to record a macro to upload the same bunch of files and folders every time, excluding subdirectories and files which shouldn't be overwritten. Does any ftp client offer this?

  • Office 2007 install limits?

    I've been able to install Office 2003 on a couple of computers that I own without any trouble. However, I just got office 2007 and I'm not able to install it on my computer and my laptop. I know this may violate agreements and whatnot but I'm curious to know if this is something that Microsoft has finally started to crack down on or what. Any information is help full. And I know that I'm going to get a few answers telling me that I'm "stealing" or whatever so I don't need to hear about that. thanks. ;)

  • Finding optimal ddrescue command line options where Accuracy > Speed

    I'm read up a bit about this tool and obviously looked at the man pages. The trouble is that ddrescue takes so long I need to get the command right first time. I wasn't sure how to improve on the vanilla; $ sudo ./ddrescue -v /dev/disk0s5 MyVolImage.dmg MyVolRescue.log $ sudo ./ddrescue -v MyVolImage.dmg /dev/disk1s3 MyVolRestore.log From HSF+ to HSF+ drives Source (Broken) HDD is connected via USB 2.0 Dest HDD is inside MacBook I would choose accuracy over speed There seem to be a lot of options but I'm not sure how they impact quality and speed of recovery.   • multiple vlans routed on one nic? trunk?General? or Access?

    ok for the last week I've tried racking my head around this... I have a SRW208P with 802.1q support, and a virtual endian appliance. I would like to be able to have 3 vlans having everything routed through the endian appliance.. i.e. The Virtual server has 2 bridged NIC's to the switch. This is where I'm getting confused .. On the 8 port switch I've got the 3 vlans set up ok (all being untagged as they are not going to be vlan aware), it's the port I'm connecting the endian firewall to the switch I'm having trouble with (second nic goes to the adsl modem and NAT'd) Is it meant to be a trunk, "Genereal" or "Access" then untagged or tagged? the end goal is to have vlan traffic routing through the single NIC and have endian route vlan traffic according to the rules. Any one have any ideas on the cisco small business stuff? Thanks

  • Access points fighting for dominance?

    We have a small office with a large number of wireless devices (a mixture of desktop machines, laptops, and wifi-enabled phones) all working from a single Apple Airport Extreme which extends our wired network. I've added another Airport Extreme for resiliency, since we've been seeing a decrease in performance and (as far as I understand) access points can only handle a small number of clients. I set the new AP to extend the current network so that the clients weren't constantly switching between different wireless networks, however as soon as this AP was configured all the wireless devices started seeing network trouble, flicking on and off. I'm assuming that this is because both APs are reasonably strong, and the client can't decide which to use. What is the best route to follow to resolve this? What I'm aiming for is wireless resiliency; preferably having two APs share the network load, or if this isn't an option then having a primary AP with a "fail-over", should the primary go down for any reason.

  • Is there a point to using theft tracking software like Prey on my laptop, if you have login security?

    Hey, so I have a Thinkpad that I use in a variety of places (coffee shops, work, etc.). I don't generally abandon it, but I figure there's a chance I might get careless and it gets stolen at some point. I was thinking of installing something like Prey (http://preyproject.com/), but my OS installs are password secured, and on top of that, I have a fingerprint reader that you need just to get through the BIOS. So: is there actually any benefit to setting up software that tracks the laptop's whereabouts? I imagine that either: The laptop won't boot or login, if the thief doesn't get past the security. If the thief goes around said security somehow, presumably they've split the laptop for parts or bypassed BIOS security, gotten stuck on Windows security and formatted it. Given that it's highly unlikely that the thief would go to the trouble, what's the utility in installing laptop tracking software like Prey?

  • Windows 7 setup hangs after "Starting Windows..."-screen

    Hi! I'm having some trouble installing Windows 7. I need to install the OS from boot in order to split my C: into two different partitions, as this is not allowed when installing from inside Vista. When I boot up from the install disc, I get the usual "Windows is copying files..."-screen, shortly followed by the "Starting Windows..."-screen with the animated window-logo or whatever. Then it looks as if the installation is about to begin with a blue screen and a cursor I can move around, but here it all stops. Nothing more happens, and the setup seems to hang. Not a single key on my keyboard has any effect, and all I am left to do is to abort and reboot. I've tried to install using two different DVDs (not clones), and the same thing happens every time. What may be causing this, and how may I fix it? Thanks in advance :)

  • Undeliverable messages to newly migrated Exchange user

    We are in the process of migrating from our old domain to a new one, part of which involves migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. A bunch of users have been migrated already without problems. However, one of the users is having trouble receiving emails from others. When someone sends to him, they get an Undeliverable NDR that says "A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients." The message shows the user's distinguished name as /OU=OurDomain/CN=Recipients/CN=USER57137172. The user's account name should just be "USER", so I don't know where the extra numbers ("57137172") are coming from. Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 Wireless Network Adapter Stopped Working

    I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine where the wireless adapter all of a sudden started having trouble connecting to wireless networks. Whenever I go to a new place and try to connect to a wireless network, it says that the DNS server is not responding, and tells me to go unplug the router and try again. After several locations in a row telling me this, I began to realize something was wrong with my adapter, not the routers. I am no longer asked to identify the security level for any new networks (Work, Home, or Public) like I used to be (it defaults to Public now - with the park bench icon). Often, resetting the router doesn't even work. Running the Windows 7 troubleshooter doesn't give me anything better than the advice to reset the router. However, the adapter will still connect to the wireless network at my main office without any problems. Does anyone know why a wireless network adapter can get so finicky so suddenly? Thanks!

  • Possible to get OpenDNS to dereference Host on VPN?

    I recently changed ISPs for my home internet. I am now having some trouble getting back into the corporate network from home over the VPN. I have figured out the OpenDNS is resolving the Hosts on the VPN incorrectly when I am using TCP/IP. When I browse to one of the hosts on corporate network, i.e. \host1, from the file manager this succeeds. However, when I ping the host, i.e. ping host1, the IP address is resolving to the OpenDNS name server instead of the actual Host IP address. Does anyone know how to make this work? On a hunch, I turned off type correction. But, this did not help.

  • Importing Omnigraffle drawings into a NeoOffice document

    What is the best way to import an Omnigraffle drawing into a NeoOffice document? I expect the document to change over time, and I may need to update the drawing later, so I'd like a way to make that happen painlessly. Currently, I export the drawing to a .jpg and then import that in NeoOffice with Insert-Picture-From File... but that's an extra step and extra file to maintain (the intermediate .jpg) and the frame that NeoOffice puts the image in always gives me trouble when I try to update the image with a new one.

  • What is the simplest and fastest way to transfer large file through a Windows network?

    I have a Window Server 2000 machine running MS SQL Server that stores over 20GB of data. The database is backed-up every day to the second harddrive. I want to transfer those backup files to another computer to build another test server and for recovery practicing. (the backup never actually got restored for almost 5 years. Don't tell my boss about that!) I have trouble transfering that huge file through the network. I've tried plain network copy, apache download, and ftp. Any method I tried end up failing when the amount of data transfered reach 2GB. The last time that I successfully transfered the file, it was through a usb attached external harddrive. But I want to perform this task routinely and preferably automatically. Wonder what is the most pragmatic approach for this situation ?

    Hey Guys, I'm having some trouble with my Smart Mailbox setup. I've got a Smart Mailbox named "Unread". And Contains messages that match any of the following conditions: Message is Unread Message is not in Mailbox News (AT) lovejungle.com Message is not in Mailbox Info (AT) lovejungle.com For some reasons, it is still displaying messages in either News@ or Info@.   • iCal4j ics file not importing to Outlook 2010

    I'm having trouble importing an ics file via the 'internet calendars' option in Outlook. The file is produced, I believe, by a Java applet. When I open the ics file directly within Outlook 2010 it works fine, i.e. click on the link and open the downloaded file with Outlook. I've also validated it online with the validator mentioned in some Stack Overflow posts. However when I subscribe to the link via internet calendars I get the following error: The file "calendar" is not a valid Internet Calendar file I haven't been able to work out what's going wrong here and the error message isn't particularly helpful. Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working?

  • Configuring favicon with expires header in htaccess

    I have implemented Expires headers via mod_expires on my Apache server and have successfully created expires headers for most file types, however I am having trouble with the favicon. I initially tried adding a set of instructions for the .ico files but when checking via YSlow it has no expiry set. When this didn't work I amended it to be a GIF, however this seems to have the same issue. Other gif's on the website have correctly set expires headers (accoridng to YSlow at least). Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

  • Link bonding across multiple switches?

    I've read up a little bit on bonding nics with ifenslave; what I'm having trouble understanding is whether there is special configuration needed in order to split the bonds across two switches. For example, if I have several servers that all have two nics each, and two separate switches, do I just configure the bonds and plug 1 nic from each into switch #1 and the other from each into switch #2? or is there more to it than that? If the bonds are active-backup, will a nic failure on single machine mean that server may become disconnected since the rest of the machines are using the primary nic and it's using the secondary? Or do you link the switches with one cable as well?

    I work on an Amazon EC2 instance that somebody else set up. We have an EBS volume mounted on /dev/sda, even though the root device is already on /dev/sda1, and we're also using `/dev/sda2' user@server:~$ mount /dev/sda1 on / type ext3 (rw) ... (snip) /dev/sda2 on /mnt type ext3 (rw) /dev/sda on /vol type xfs (rw,noatime) ... This doesn't seem to fit with what I know about the way /dev/ works. How is this possible, and more importantly: will this cause trouble in the future? I'm running ubuntu 9.04 jaunty.

  • Password Expired Server 2008 R2

    Hello everybody, We're facing some trouble with our Server 2008 R2 installation. The passwords expired and we're prompted to change the password. After changing it, we get following error message: Configuration Information could no be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. But we aren't even using a domain controller. So we tried running the server in Safe Mode where we get following message after changing the password: An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started. Are there any other things I could try? All help is more than appreciated!
