This is all I can get I can setup a public repository using this method but not able to add a private repository.     Hello, currently I have dual boot with 2 windows 7. (dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations? If I install Ubuntu, will this simply add to my list of OS boot options when you set it, like I did when I install my 2nd Windows 7 Any comments or help would be great? Thanks Bill

    Windows XP/2k3 and earlier (can't attest to Vista, but suspect it's the same) all appear to become more sluggish over time as applications are installed and uninstalled. This is not a scientifically tested observation, but more of a learned-through-experience piece of wisdom. (I've always suspected the registry as being behind the issue.) Does anyone have any concrete evidence of this degradation occurring, or it just an invalid perception of mine?

    Hello, I just recently deactivated system recovery on Vista, which saved me a huge amount of space. But I wonder is it necessary to have it activated? I can't remember that I any time had any use of system recovery anyway. And since it is Microsoft it probably would do a sloppy job anyway or? This question is for Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Click on the + (plus) sign to add a new account, with these settings: * Account Type is Jabber Account * Account name is [email protected], and enter your password * Click the drop-down arrow to reveal Server options. Enter chat.facebook.com as the server name. * Enter 5222 as the port and click Done. Click Done again, and you are good to go. From reading this, it seems that it might be possible to telnet into facebook chat. I tried, but wasn't able to. Is it possible? How?

    I am trying to do an e-mail merge in Microsoft Publisher 2010 (which appears to do mail merging like Microsoft Word) and I'm wanting a merged email address to automatically be hyperlinked in the resulting email. For example, one of the merge fields could be "EmailAddress" with an example address being [email protected]. In the document, I would want the merge field "EmailAddress" to display as the default text in an hyperlink and also set the target of the hyperlink to "mailto:EmailAddress" (eg. mailto:[email protected]). I can't figure out how to get Publisher 2010 to do that. I would think that it's possible, though. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  • Unable to use OpenGL or install nVidia driver on openSUSE 12.2

    I have an ASUS N76VZ laptop with 12.2 openSUSE and GeForce GT650M card. I found that KDE doesn't allow me to use OpenGL rendering. I tried to install nVidia's driver from script but once it writes the xorg.conf file I'm unable to boot desktop.   • Is it a good idea to have the operating system on a solid state drive?

    There is something I don't quite understand. I know a SSD helps with OS load times, but I'm not sure if all this boost is only noticeable/interesting when booting, or gives an all around considerably better experience thereafter. I am interested in having a quick and responsive environment after booting, which leads me to think that it'd be better to spend the SSD capacity in my most used apps (and the page file? Another inside question) and not the OS itself. This, of course, means that I don't know just how much the OS reads/writes its files during normal usage. So, how good an idea is it to dump the whole 20GB+ of Windows 7 OS into the SSD (considering the hefty price per GB of SSD capacity) if I can put up with the usual hard disk boot times? Would I be missing on a lot if I didn't?

    It's an 8 GB Patriot thumb drive, which I've used extensively with lots of data. EDIT I found that at least some of my data is still on the flash drive, by using the below, and searching for English text in less (like " the "): cat /dev/sde | tr -cd '\11\12\40\1540-\176' | less (The drive changed from "/dev/sdb" to "/dev/sde" because I connected some extra drives today). I've learnt that "/dev/sde1" would be the first partition; and "/dev/sde" is the whole drive. Because unix treats these devices just like files, you can use all the ordinary unix file commands on them, like cat, and then process them like any other stream of data. The tr above removes non-printable characters ("\40" is space, which I wanted to preserve). In less, you can use "/" to search, similar to Vim. How can I get my data back (assuming it's still there)? If only the partition table is corrupted, is there a standard "partition recovery tool"? Is there a way to "repartition" without deleting everything?

  • ubuntu 10.04 console resolution

    I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavilion dv6000 After I installed it, the text in the console (when I press ALT+F1) was small and the console had a good resolution (I think the same as my LCD, 1280x800). Also, at boot, the "Ubuntu" logo was small and centered in the middle of the screen. That was good. After that, I installed the nVidia driver via the "System-Administration-Hardware drivers" screen. After the driver was installed, the text in the console was larger and more pixelated, and also the "Ubuntu" logo was much larger and looked uglier because it was pixelated. Can anyone help me change the resolution in the console and boot screen back to what it was before I installed the nVidia driver?

  • Can't open cocoa emacs from terminal using open -a

    I installed emacs on my MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.5 from this site http://emacsformacosx.com/. I believe this is what used to be called cocoa emacs. I dragged it into my Application folder and it works fine when I run it from there. I want to be able to run it from the Terminal. After some googling, I tried open -a /Application/Emacs.app foo.txt (foo.txt was and existing file). I got two emacs windows - one with welcome screen and one with foo.txt loaded. I tried a few applications in the /Applications directory and they did not seem to behave like this. I had installed it using my own account (an admin account) so after doing ls -l on /Application I noticed that the owner and group were different from the other entries in this folder. I recursively changed the owner and group to root and wheel, like the others, but this did not help. The only thing that looks funny now is that there that ls -l show a @ character which has something to do with extended attributes but I don't know how to check these. Any suggestions on what to check next? Is using the open command the only to run the program? Can I simulate what it does using a shell script?

  • Excel - "send to Mail recipient" creates 2nd copy of EMail in Inbox

    When sending Excel sheets using the menu item "File" - "Sent To" - "Mail recipient (as attachment)" I get additional copies of the email in the Inbox. When I press "send" then I get 2 copies of the email in Outlook - as expected one in the Outbox (which moves into the Sent folder as soon it is sent off) and an additional one in the Inbox. How do I stop the copy message appearing in the Inbox? System: Excel 2000, Outlook 2000, Windows XP. Antivirus is AVG Free 2011. I know this is a very old system, but it is not my PC and there isn't any chance to get it replaced in the near future yet. SOme further details: The copy in the inbox appears at the same time as the normal copy goes into the Outbox (i.e. as soon I press send). It doesn't contain anything in the From field (i.e. there is no sender, just the recipient of the mail). It has a different icon in Outlook to the other emails - the icon is the one for "saved or unsent message". I tried it with a few different spreadsheets and it happens with all of them. It happens with every recipient, and it only happens if sending from within Excel (i.e. using the Send to menu item). I can delete the attachment before sending and it will still create a copy. If I create a new message in Outlook and then add the Excel document as attachment then I don't get the copy of the message in the inbox, it only happens when using the send to item in Excel. It only started doing this recently. Around that time the Antivirus (AVG Free) was upgraded to the latest version (from the previous version - 2010? - to version 2011), but this might not be related. I thought I know Excel really well but have never seen this happening before, and I can't find any setting in Excel or Outlook that is causing this. Any ideas?
