• SIFR, JAVASCRIPT & PHP - How to apply SIFR to dynamically loaded content.

  Well here's the problem: I have a PHP index page which uses show/hide layers javascript. I am using the on menu.click function to show and hide content relevant to each menu. On.click all divs are hidden except the content for that menu item , which fades in. The content relating to each menu item are displayed within separate DIVS. The property is applied to all the text within all the divs. See: http://jobe-group.com/jobeco/uk/2010live/dynamic/content/index.php# The trouble is that SIFR only appears to be applied to the displayed on.load when the page is first loaded. When this is hidden and the other s shown through the "show" function they load in classic CSS fonts without the SIFR applied. Is this unavoidable with the SIFR setup. Or am I not calling the divs properly. I have set the SIFR to apply to the selector and indeed it works fine on the for the displayed on load. It doesn't work for the within other . In theory I would think its possible to load the SIFR on all divs on page.load even if those divs are presently visibility:hidden. What's the verdict on this? Hope someone can help. Cheers, John

• Importing external .jar file to Android project

  I've read various answers to similar questions on StackOverflow, so I apologise if I'm repeating another question, but I can't seem to get this to work. I have a standard java project in which I've written code to parse some BBC Radio XML data from the internet. The project is called BBCSchedules and the class I'm interested in is called BBCChannel. I'm now trying to use the BBCChannel class in an android application. How should I go about doing this? I've tried various things, following various bits of advice on the internet, and the place I've got to at the moment is compiling my BBCSchedules project to a .jar file, and importing that to the Android project using the Build Path/Library/Add External Jar option. However, Eclispe still doesn't recognise the BBCChannel class, and won't let me run the application because of this. I guess I've done something silly wrong, but what is it? Cheers, Robin UPDATE: I've tried the steps listed in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1334802/how-can-i-use-external-jars-in-an-android-project and various other StackOverflow questions I can find that seem to be related to this, but absolutely nothing seems to work. Any other ideas? UPDATE: The discussions I've had with the author of the first answer below suggest that it is something to do with how I am using Eclipse to attach the .jar file. The project he sent me with the .jar file already attached didn't work. Any other ideas anyone?

• Why does this log output show the same answer in each iteration?

  OK, I was reading an article on optimising JS for Googles V8 engine, when i saw this code example... I nearly skimmed over it, but then I saw this; |=; a[0] |= b; a = new Array(); a[0] = 0; for (var b = 0; b < 10; b++) { console.log(a, b) a[0] |= b; // Much better! 2x faster. } a[0] |= b; So I ran it, in my console, with a console.log in the loop and resulted in 15; [15] 0 [15] 1 [15] 2 [15] 3 [15] 4 [15] 5 [15] 6 [15] 7 [15] 8 [15] 9 WHAT?!?! Where the hell does it get 15 from, on every iteration?!?!?! I've been a web dev for 7 years, and this has stumped me and a fellow colleague. Can somebody talk me through this code? Cheers.

• Creating UIButton using helper method

  I have a subclass of UITableView and in it I want to generate number of labels that share the same properties (font, textColor, backgroundColor, etc.). I decided the easiest way to achieve this would be to create a helper method which creates the label with some common properties set: - (UILabel *)defaultLabelWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; label.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:14]; label.textColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:128.0/255.0 alpha:1.0]; label.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; return label; } I use the method like this: UILabel *someLabel = [self defaultLabelWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,100,100)]; [self addSubview:someLabel]; [someLabel release]; My concern here is that when creating the label in the method it is retained, but when I then assign it to someLabel, it is retained again and I have no way of releasing the memory when created in the method. What would be best the best approach here? I fee like I have two options: Create a subclass of UILabel for the default label type. • Valid javascript object property names

  I'm trying to work out what is considered valid for the property name of a javascript object. For example var b = {} b['-^colour'] = "blue"; // Works fine in Firefox, Chrome, Safari b['colour'] = "green"; // Ditto alert(b['-^colour']); // Ditto alert(b.colour); // Ditto for(prop in b) alert(prop); // Ditto //alert(b.-^colour); // Fails (expected) This post details valid javascript variable names, and '-^colour' is clearly not valid (as a variable name). Does the same apply to object property names? Looking at the above I'm trying to work out if b['-^colour'] is invalid, but works in all browsers by quirk, and I shouldn't trust it to work going forward b['-^colour'] is completely valid, but it's just of a form that can only be accessed in this manner - (it's supported so Objects can be used as maps perhaps?) Something else As an aside, a global variable in javascript might be declared at the top level as var abc = 0; but could also be created (as I understand it) with window['abc'] = 0; the following works in all the above browsers window['@£$%'] = "bling!"; alert(window['@£$%']); Is this valid? It seems to contradict the variable naming rules - or am I not declaring a variable there? What's the difference between a variable and an object property name? Cheers, Colin

  ok i've been searching for an answer to this (if there even is one) with no luck i have a succession of div elements as shown in the pic bellow: http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h46/DrAcOliCh_2006/untitled-1.jpg?t=1300520458 the blue background is the absolute parent of the orange divs which are also siblings the DOM is not quite organized according to how the orange elements appear on the page because they are all draggable (i used jquery UI) and i moved them around inside the parent, yet, as some know, the DOM doesn't get reorganized when i move draggable elements around, so basically the siblings structure remains the same inside the DOM what i kinda need (again if that is even possible) is to determine the immediate on page neighbouring siblings of eachother; in other words, say we take that "FlashBanner" element which, on page, has the "Logo", the "Search" and the "ShoppingBasket" elements as immediate top siblings and the "Categories" and "Content" elements as immediate bottom siblings (and no left or right siblings) i have a manual solution to this, that is to pre-specify the on page neighbouring siblings for each element through a series of form fields and stuff (another story and another wall of text to explain), but that is not important atm as i want to know if it can be done automatically (i.e tell jquery to find them for me) appreciate any help, even an "it can't be done automatically", and thank you for your time hope this doesn't sound to ambiguous (or silly for that matter) and why i need to do that don't ask :P wall of text to explain cheers :)

• Combining two queries on same table

• Which is the correct design pattern for my PHP application?

  I've been struggling to find good way to implement my system which essentially matches the season and episode number of a show from a string, you can see the current working code here: https://github.com/huddy/tvfilename I'm currently rewriting this library and want a nicer way to implement how the the match happens, currently essentially the way it works is: There's a folder with classes in it (called handlers), every handler is a class that implements an interface to ensure a method called match(); exists, this match method uses the regex stored in a property of that handler class (of which there are many) to try and match a season and episode. The class loads all of these handlers by instantiating each one into a array stored in a property, when I want to try and match some strings the method iterates over these objects calling match(); and the first one that returns true is then returned in a result set with the season and episode it matched. I don't really like this way of doing it, it's kind of hacky to me, and I'm hoping a design pattern can help, my ultimate goal is to do this using best practices and I wondered which one I should use? The other problems that exist are: More than one handler could match a string, so they have to be in an order to prevent the more greedy ones matching first, not sure if this is solvable as some of the regex patterns have to be greedy, but possibly a score system, something that shows a percentage of how likely the match is correct, i'd have no idea how to actually implement this though. I'm not if instantiating all those handlers is a good way of doing it, speed is important, but using best practices and sticking to design patterns to create good, extensible and maintainable code is my ultimate priority. It's worth noting the handler classes sometimes do other things than just regex matching, they sometimes prep the string to be matched by removing common words etc. Cheers for any help Billy

• WordPress website getting hung up for 10-15 seconds

  Problem I have a website (which loads fine): http://testupg.videve.com/ Go to the blog section (and it begins to load, gets hung up, then loads): http://testupg.videve.com/blog/ It's all one WordPress install. The only pages that are getting hung up are the blog page itself and any article page. The video pages load fine etc. What Have I done and noticed. If I disable all plugins, the blog page loads fine. I narrowed it down to DisplayBuddy plugins (Featured posts, Carousel, Slider)...as soon as I enable any single one of them, the site loads slow. The thing that doesn't make sense is, I disabled the sidebar (deleted it from the template) and the article page still loaded slow and it has ZERO instances of this plugin. I disable the plugin and the article page loads fine. How on earth can this be? I am hoping this case above can give just a little bit of insight! One other thing. The video pages use a custom taxonomy so I am wondering if its something to do with the default wordpress taxonomy. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, I have been at this thing for hours and it's time to call in some support. Cheers

• Perl: How do I capture Chinese input via SCIM with STDIN?

  Hi, I use SCIM on Linux for Chinese and Japanese language input. Unfortunately, when I try to capture input using Perl's STDIN, the input is crazy. As roman characters are typed, SCIM tries to guess the correct final characters. ^H (backspace) codes are used to delete previously suggested chars on the command line. (As you type, SCIM tries to guess final Asian chars and displays them.) However, these backspace chars are shown literally as ^H and not interpreted correctly. Example one-liner: perl -e 'print "Chinese: "; my $s = <STDIN>; print $s' When I enable SCIM Chinese or Japanese language input, as I type, e.g., nihao = ??, here is the result: ?^H?^H?^H?^H?^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H?? At the very end of this string, you can see "??" (nihao/hello). At a normal bash prompt, if I type nihao (with Chinese enabled), the results is perfect. This has something to do with interpretation of backspace chars (or control chars) during Perl's STDIN. The same thing happens when using command 'read' in Bash. • Sphinx - delimiters

  Hi, I would like to know if the Sphinx engine works with any delimiters (like commas and periods in normal MySQL). My question comes from the urge, not to use them at all, but to escape them or at least thay they don't enter in conflict when performing MATCH operations with FULLTEXT searches, since I have problems dealing with them in MySQL by default and I would prefer not to be forced to replace those delimiters by any other characters to provide a good set of results. Sorry if I'm saying something stupid, but I don't have experience with Sphinx or other complementary (?) search engines. To give you an example, if I perform a search with "Passat 2.0 TDI" MySQL by default would identify the period in this case as a delimiter and since the "2" and "0" are too short to be considered words by default, the results would be a bit messed up. Is it easy to handle with Sphinx (or other search engine)? I'm open to suggestions. This is for a large project, with probably more than 500.000 possible records (not trivial at all). Cheers!

• Python-based password tracker (or dictionary)

  Hello: Where we work we need to remember about 10 long passwords which need to change every so often. I would like to create a utility which can potentially save these passwords in an encrypted file so that we can keep track of them. I can think of some sort of dictionary passwd = {'host1':'pass1', 'host2':'pass2'}, etc, but I don't know what to do about encryption (absolutely zero experience in the topic). So, my question is really two questions: Is there a Linux-based utility which lets you do that? If you were to program it in Python, how would you go about it? A perk of approach two, would be for the software to update the ssh public keys after the password has been changed (you know the pain of updating ~15 tokens once you change your password). As it can be expected, I have zero control over the actual network configuration and the management of scp keys. I can only hope to provide a simple utility to me an my very few coworkers so that, if we need to, we can retrieve a password on demand. Cheers.

• Looping through covariates in regression using R

  I'm trying to run 96 regressions and save the results as 96 different objects. To complicate things, I want the subscript on one of the covariates in the model to also change 96 times. I've almost solved the problem but I've unfortunately hit a wall. The code so far is, for(i in 1:96){ assign(paste("z.out", i,sep=""), lm(rMonExp_EGM~ TE_i+ Month2+Month3+Month4+Month5+Month6+Month7+Month8+Month9+ Month10+Month11+Month12+Yrs_minus_2004 + as.factor(LGA),data=Pokies)) } This works on the object creation side (e.g. I have z.out1 - z.out96) but I can't seem to get the subscript on the covariate to change as well. I have 96 variables called TE_1, TE_2 ... TE_96 in the dataset. As such, the subscript on TE_, the "i" needs to change to correspond to each of the objects I create. That is, z.out1 should hold the results from this model: z.out1 <- lm(rMonExp_EGM~ TE_1 + Month2+Month3+Month4+Month5+Month6+Month7+Month8+Month9+ Month10+Month11+Month12+Yrs_minus_2004 + as.factor(LGA),data=Pokies) And z.out96 should be: z.out96 <- lm(rMonExp_EGM~ TE_96+ Month2+Month3+Month4+Month5+Month6+Month7+Month8+Month9+ Month10+Month11+Month12+Yrs_minus_2004 + as.factor(LGA),data=Pokies) Hopefully this makes sense. • SQL query error while trying to put a file in the database

  Hey Guys I have a big problem that I have no Idea why.. I have few forms that upload files to the database, all of them work fine except one.. I use the same query in all(simple insert). I think that it has something to do with the files i am trying to upload but I am not sure. • Zend Framework: How to display multiple actions, each requiring different authorizations levels, on

  Imagine I have 4 database tables, and an interface that presents forms for the management of the data in each of these tables on a single webpage (using the accordion design pattern to show only one form at a time). Each form is displayed with a list of rows in the table, allowing the user to insert a new row or select a row to edit or delete. AJAX is then used to send the request to the server. A different set of forms must be displayed to different users, based on the application ACL. My question is: In terms of controllers, actions, views, and layouts, what is the best architecture for this interface? For example, so far I have a controller with add, edit and delete actions for each table. There is an indexAction for each, but it's an empty function. I've also extended Zend_Form for each table. To display the forms, I then in the IndexController pass the Forms to it's view, and echo each form. Javascript then takes care of populating the form and sending requests to the appropraite add/edit/delete action of the appropriate controller. This however doesn't allow for ACL to control the display or not of Forms to different users. Would it be better to have the indexAction instantiate the form, and then use something like $this-render(); to render each view within the view of the indexAction of the IndexController? Would ACL then prevent certain views from being rendered? Cheers.

  Hi, I'm trying to create a custom Android control to emulate a LinearLayout with a fancier display. Basically, I want the exact behaviour of a LinearLayout, but also borders, a background, ... I could do it all in XML (works great) but since I have dozens of occurences in my app it's getting hard to maintain. I thought it would be nicer to have something like this: /* Main.xml */ <MyFancyLayout> <TextView /> <ImageView /> </MyfancyLayout> My problem is, I don't want to have to re-write LinearLayout, so is there a way to only change its appearance?   Hi there So lets suppose we have an action in a controller that looks a bit like this: public ViewResult SomeAction(int id) { var data = _someService.GetData(id); ... //create new view model based on the data here return View(viewModel); } What I m trying to figure out is the best way to render a diferent view based on the type fo the data. the "_someService.GetData method returns an data that knows its out type (ie not only you can do typeof(data) but also you can do data.DataType and you ll get an enum value so I could achieve what I m trying to do doing something kinda like this public ViewResult SomeAction(int id) { var data = _someService.GetData(id); //I m mapping fields to the viewModel here var viewModel = GetViewModel(data); swtich(data.DataType) case DataType.TypeOne: return View("TypeOne", viewModel); break; ... } But this does not seem to be the nicest way, (I dont event know if it would work) Is this the way to go? Should I use some sort of RenderPartial Aproach? after all , waht will change in the view is mostly the order of the data (ie the rest of the view would be quite similar) Cheers

Everything are using Unity to inject dependencies (ISessionFactory in repositories, repositories in services and services in controllers) and works fine. But, it's very common I need a method in service to get only object in my repository, like this (in service class): public class ProductService { private readonly IUnitOfWork _uow; private readonly IProductRepository _productRepository; public ProductService(IUnitOfWork unitOfWork, IProductRepository productRepository) { this._uow = unitOfWork; this._productRepository = productRepository; } /* this method should be exists in DDD ??? I know this is because my mask mask and topImg options have the same class - but how can I modify the plugin to allow for these items to have the same class? I know it's probably something really simple, but I'm still finding my way with jQuery and Javascript in general. Any other tips on improving my code would also be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Chris

• Send email from webpage without postback/refresh

  Hi all. Long time reader, first time writer. Quick query i hope someone can help me with. I have a webpage (php, javascript) which has a small contact form for a user to fill in and email us. Not a problem in itself, i have a working form already. Nothing noteworthy, just a form posting to a php page which sends an email. <form id="myform" name="myform" method="post" action="Mailer.php"> So user fills in form, hits submit and the page changes to mailer.php and they find their way back to where they were. What I want instead is for the to stay on the same page when submit is pushed. The form div to update itself to just say 'message sent' or something. I just want to avoid a full page refresh. Much like how on say facebook, commenting on a status only updates that div. Hope that is phrased clearly enough. Cheers all,

  Hi everyone, Ive created a singleton to store 2 arrays: @interface Globals : NSObject { NSMutableArray *items; NSMutableArray *extras; } + (Globals *)sharedInstance; @property (nonatomic, assign) NSMutableArray *items; @property (nonatomic, assign) NSMutableArray *extras; @end @implementation Globals @synthesize items, extras; + (Globals *)sharedInstance { static Globals *myInstance = nil; @synchronized(self) { if(!myInstance) { myInstance = [[Globals alloc] init]; } } return myInstance; } -(void)dealloc { [items release]; [extras release]; [super dealloc]; } @end When I set the Arrays in the singleton from the App delegate and then output them to NSLog it displays what is expected. But when I call it from a view controller further into the App it displays the first entry fine, some of the second entry and then garbage which is i assume a buffer overrun, sometimes it also crashes. I set the singleton array in the appDelegate like so: Globals *sharedInstance = [Globals sharedInstance]; [sharedInstance setItems:items]; and retrieve it: [[[sharedInstance items] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"name"]; cell.description.text = [[[sharedInstance items] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"description"]; Name works fine in both cells if there is 2, description works in the first case, never in the second case. Is it because the arrays in my singleton aren't static? If so why is it outputting the first entry fine? Cheers for any help.

  hey guys, i am trying to create a spreadsheet which automagically gives a grade to a student based on their marks they got. I've apparently hit excels nested IF statement limit which is 7. here's my if statement: =IF(O5>0.895,"A+",IF(O5>0.845,"A",IF(O5>0.795,"A-",IF(O5>0.745,"B+",IF(O5>0.695,"B",IF(O5>0.645,"B-",IF(O5>0.595,"C+",IF(O5>0.545,"C","D")))))))) I was reading online that I could create a VBA script and assign it that, but I dont know anything about VBA....so if someone could help me write a VBA for this, would be awesome. Its still mising the C- grade and anything lower should be awarded a D mark. This is the grading scheme I am trying to create...: A+ 89.500 - 100.000 Pass with Distinction A 84.500 - 89.490 Pass with Distinction A- 79.500 - 84.490 Pass with Distinction B+ 74.500 - 79.490 Pass with Merit B 69.500 - 74.490 Pass with Merit B- 64.500 - 69.490 Pass with Merit C+ 59.500 - 64.490 Pass C 54.500 - 59.490 Pass C- 49.500 - 54.490 Pass D 0.000 - 49.490 Specified Fail I wouldn't mind going down the VBA route, however my understanding of VB language is absolutely minimal (don't like it)...if this gets too tedious, I was thinking to create a small php/mysql application instead.   Hi, Can anyone help me with a SQL query in Apache Derby SQL to get a "simple" count. Given a table ABC that looks like this... id a b c 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 2 3 2 1 3 4 2 1 1 ** 5 2 1 2 ** ** 6 2 2 1 ** 7 3 1 2 8 3 1 3 9 3 1 1 How can I write a query to get a count of how may distinct values of 'a' have both (b=1 and c=2) AND (b=2 and c=1) to get the correct result of 1. (the two rows marked match the criteria and both have a value of a=2, there is only 1 distinct value of a in this table that match the criteria) The tricky bit is that (b=1 and c=2) AND (b=2 and c=1) are obviously mutually exclusive when applied to a single row. .. so how do I apply that expression across multiple rows of distinct values for a? These queries are wrong but to illustrate what I'm trying to do... "SELECT DISTINCT COUNT(a) WHERE b=1 AND c=2 AND b=2 AND c=1 ..." .. (0) no go as mutually exclusive "SELECT DISTINCT COUNT(a) WHERE b=1 AND c=2 OR b=2 AND c=1 ..." .. (3) gets me the wrong result. SELECT COUNT(a) (CASE WHEN b=1 AND c=10 THEN 1 END) FROM ABC WHERE b=2 AND c=1 .. (0) no go as mutually exclusive Cheers, Phil.

• Codeigniter PHP - loading a view at an anchor point

  I have a form at the bottom of a long page, if a user fills out the form but it doesn't validate the page is reloaded in the typical codeigniter fashion: $this->load->view('template',$data); however because the form is way down at the bottom of the page I need the page to load down there like you do with HTML anchors. Does anyone know how to do this in codeigniter? I can't use the codeigniter redirect(); function because it loses the object and the validation errors are gone. Other frameworks I've used like Yii you can call the redirect function like: $this->redirect(); which solves the problem because you keep the object. I've tried using: $this->index() within the controller which works fine as a redirect but the validation errors are in another method which is where the current page is loaded from: $this->item($labs) but when I use this it get stuck in a loop Any ideas? I've seen this question a lot on the net but no clear answers. I'm researching using codeigniter "flash data" but think it's a bit overkill. cheers.

• APC decreasing php performance??? (php 5.3, apache 2.2, windows vista 64bit)

  Hi, I have an Apache/2.2.15 (VC9) and PHP/5.3.2 (VC9 thread safe) running as an apache module on Vista 64bit machine. All running fine. Project that I'm benchmarking (with apache's ab utility) is basically standard Zend Framework project with no db connection involved. Average (median) apache response is about 0.15 seconds. After I've installed APC (3.1.4-dev VC9 thread safe) with standard settings suddenly the request response time raised to 1.3 seconds (!), which is unacceptable... All apc settings looked always good (through the apc.php script: enough shm memory, no cache full, fragmentation 0%). Only difference was to disable the stats lookup (apc.stat = 0). Then the response dropped to 0.09 seconds which was finally better than without the apc. IIRC, it's expected and obvious that the stat lookup creates some overhead, but shouldn't it still be far more performant compared to running wihout the apc extension at all? Or put it differently why is the apc.stat creating so much overhead? Apparently, something is not working as it should, I don't really know where to start looking.
