• Problem with altering model attributes in controller

  Hi all, Today I've got a problem when I tried using following code to alter the model attribute in the controller function userlist($trigger = 1) { if($trigger == 1) { $this->User->useTable = 'betausers'; //'betausers' is completely the same structure as table 'users' } $users = $this->User->find('all'); debug($users); } And the model file is class User extends AppModel { var $name = "User"; //var $useTable = 'betausers'; function beforeFind() //only for debug { debug($this->useTable); } } The debug message in the model showed the userTable attribute had been changed to betausers.And It was supposed to show all records in table betausers.However,I still got the data in the users,which quite confused me.And I hope someone can show me some directions to solve this problem. • Has Google introduced a system that allows multiple "keyword-only" domains per site?

  I've been told by a client that "a friend" told them that as of January 2010, Google allows multiple domain names that have keywords in them to be associated with a single site. To be honest this sounds rather April-foolish but I'm not sure when his "friend" told him so for the time being I have to take it at face value. I've heard nothing of this and have searched for such a thing this morning, to find nothing but warnings against this practice. Said client seems keen on buying up lots of domains today, so before he insists upon it I just want to be absolutely sure - has Google silently introduced such an allowance, or is there something else they introduced earlier this year that he could be getting confused with? I found this solution, but I'm a little confused by the hex values (?) used -- 0x01 and 0x80. unsigned char reverse(unsigned char c) { int shift; unsigned char result = 0; for (shift = 0; shift < CHAR_BITS; shift++) { if (c & (0x01 << shift)) result |= (0x80 >> shift); } return result; } The book I'm working out of hasn't discussed these kinds of values, so I'm not really sure what to make of them. • How do Go web apps function from a server perspective?

  Hey Everyone, I followed the directions on how to create web applications using Go, and I was able to get an application working great. One thing I am confused about though is, when you run the application (./8.out), the terminal will sit there and listen on port 8080 until somebody accesses a page. Does the terminal need to stay up all of the time to run the web application? Does the application act like apache? Does apache need to be run next to this app? Setting this up on a server environment seems very confusing to me right now because I dont understand what the best way to do this is. Thanks for any help on this, Metropolis

• Why does C++ mandate that complex only be instantiated for float, double, or long double?

  According to the C++ ISO spec, §26.2/2: The effect of instantiating the template complex for any type other than float, double or long double is unspecified. Why would the standard authors explicitly add this restriction? This makes it unspecified, for example, what happens if you make complex<int> or a complex<MyCustomFixedPointType> and seems like an artificial restriction. Is there a reason for this limitation? Is there a workaround if you want to instantiate complex with your own custom type? I'm primarily asking this question because of this earlier question, in which the OP was confused as to why abs was giving bizarre outputs for complex<int>. That said, this still doesn't quite make sense given that we also might want to make complex numbers out of fixed-points types, higher-precision real numbers, etc. Thanks!

• Setting ownership/permissions for symfony2 and other web projects

  I've been very confused as to how to set permissions and user/groups for my sites. It is particularly one of my weakest suits My curent problem is that I often find myself running into a situation where if i view a particular page, it won't have permissions to write to cache or logs. At this point I'll set the ownership towards apache. Then, in other cases, if i try to run internal scripts, for example, I can't write to these cache/log files because i set them for apache. Currently, my symfony2 files are all registered to me as a part of staff (Handonam:Staff). I've seen various people creating groups such as www-data, apache, etc, and using users such as theirselves (e.g. Handonam) or www as a part of those groups. So my question is: For symfony2 and other web projects, what's generally the best setup for user/group setup so that both apache and myself can interact with these files, while maintaining decent security?

  I'm pretty noobish when it comes to C++ STL stuff. After a compiler upgrade, I'm getting: error: Semantic Issue: Excess elements in scalar initializer on the call: Certificate *tempcert; cValType( tempPerson->name, tempcert ); with a typedef of: typedef std::map< string, certificate* >::value_type cValType; I'm not certain what this error is telling me or how to fix it. (Ok, I realize it's telling me excess elements, but it looks like it matches the map prototype to me, so I'm confused.) Suggestions?

  I'm building some sort of wizard to create user accounts in Sync and Manage account. I use a ViewFlipper my activity has to be an AccountAuthenticatorActivity. That said it also means I can't inherit PreferenceActivity. So I looked up in the code of PreferenceActivity and I believe it should be possible to have a PreferenceView that inherit from ListView. The Activity part of PreferenceActivity isn't really needed as far as I know. Though the PreferenceManager is what really blocks me. private PreferenceManager onCreatePreferenceManager() { PreferenceManager preferenceManager = new PreferenceManager(this, FIRST_REQUEST_CODE); preferenceManager.setOnPreferenceTreeClickListener(this); return preferenceManager; } This function imply that we can instatiate PreferenceManager using the operator new. Apparently, the sdk hide the constructor of the PreferenceManager. I'm kind of confused. Is there a way to inflate my preferences and display them without PreferenceActivity?

  Hi,I have been stuck on this issue for quite some time now.Have read the documentation and many tutorials and they just confuse me more.I hope someone will provide me a straightforward answer.It's really important.Thank you.. Ok ..so i want an activity to get some input from the user as and then send that string to a service.Then i want my service to run in a way so that i can use other applications while this one keeps running in the background.Also i don't want the service to keep running every second.What i want is for the service to get updated location of my current position every 10 minutes so i was thinkin if there could be a way to make my service to go to sleep n wake up evry 10 mins n check for updates.I don't want to show the update on the UI so i dont think i need to use an AIDL approach and also dont need to bind to the service.I js simply want to start the service as soon as the user enters the string and keep the service runing every 10 mins.I think it is really simple but m very confused.Please help.

  Hi, I am so confused about how to build up a 3-dimension lookup table. Is the template as follows: create a 3 dimensional array to store data. Then create linked list. Then create function 'insert' to put all the data into the array? As some book said, linked list should be static const, is it need to create another function to expand the list? Because the lookup table should be used in a microcontroller, it only needs to finish the operation of putting the data into the array and whenever want to find the data, it will be fast and easy to search. • Drupal does not recognize my website has been installed

  After a successful Drupal install, I was trying to follow the security recommendations and reverted the settings.php file to 444 permissions (read, read, read). Then, all of a sudden, right after doing that, Drupal does not recognize the installation process was completed. It went back to the install screen. Worst of all. I did chmod back to 666 (write, write, write) but it does not work any more. When I move forward as if I was going to install Drupal again, he tells me he does not have permissions to create the files folder under sites/default... But since the installation has already been completed... the files folder is already there... I am puzzled... Could it be some sort of server caching? Since this is one of my first adventures with a Linux server, I am a bit confused. Any help appreciated... Thanks.

Actually it takes the adreess structure "sockaddr_in" and we can create the structure in the following way sockaddr_in.*** = somthing.. sockaddr_in..s_addr htonl(INADDR_ANY) **Passing INADDR_ANY will alow to bind all local addresses** My question is , why do we need to use "INADDR_ANY" ? In my knowledge every machine can has only one unique IP Address. In this way there is only one address associated with the machien. Thye bind call should directly bind the socket to the single available address. Please explain what are the different scenarios and why is it so?

• Java Sound Clip Looping Frame Position

  Hi, I have a little problem with a loopting clip: If you have a soundfile e.g. 20000 samples long, the frame position will not reset after looping, so I get values that are "out of bounds" of the original soundfile. As I want to draw a position marker on my waveform, I'm a bit confused how to achive. At this time I just get myClip.getLongFramePosition() but this does not work as described above. Does anyone have an idea how to fix that? Is there a possibility to count how often a clip was looped before? Regards

  I am a little confused and making it alot more complicated than this needs to be! Here is what I have... A view which displays a drop down of US States. When the user chooses a state it loads a list of data from a database and returns the results (populates the View Model) and the View renders the information. What I wanted to do was have have the dropdown trigger an Ajax event which performs the data load, but also wanted it to depreciate if the user didn't have Javascript enabled. How would I go about rendering the view with AND without javascript / ajax? Hope that makes sense. Thanks for your help.

• What is the best way to organize Java code since you can't pass by reference?

  I'm learning how to code in Java after after coming from C. In C I always separated everything into individual functions to make the code easier to follow and edit. I was trying to do this in java but now since I realized that you can't use pointers, I am a bit confused as to what the best way to do this is. So for example I want to have a method that creates four alerts for me. So I pass it an alert builder that can then create the alerts. I can return them in an array, but in my code I already have the alerts individually named, and I would like to keep it that way so I wouldn't need to refer to them as alert[1], alert[2]... etc. So that means I would have to rename them, which would add additional code which would probably be longer than the code in the actual method! Am I thinking about this the right way? Is there anything I can do?

  Hi all. Im trying to make an activity that has a multiple choice dialog after you push a button. In there you select from a list of things. But these things are received from a web method before the dialog appears. So I create a string array after I receive them inside the onCreate to initialise it there with the correct size. But my dialog method then cant get the array because propably its out of its scope. My code looks like this @Override protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) //Here is where the array is loaded to the multiple select dialog etc @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) //Here is where i initialise the array and get its contents etc I cant initialise my array when the class starts because I dont know its size yet. This has to do something with the scopes of my variables and I am pretty confused
