  • How to control fan speed using SpeedFan?

    The CPU fan in my laptop is running too fast. I wish to control the speed manually to my preference, at times. Here is a CPU-Z screenshot of my laptop configuration: http://i.stack.imgur.com/1oST1.png And here is how SpeedFan window looks at my end: http://i.imgur.com/BIi0RdJ.jpg I have no idea how to use SpeedFan to control my laptop's CPU fan speed. How to configure it so that I can increase and decrease speed of the fan at my will? Edit: Sorry, the first image wasn't as intended, so I've corrected it now. Also, if someone can edit the post and embed the images in the post, that would be great. I need at least 10 reputation to successfully accomplish that.

  • Can't open Control Panel or IE

    I have a XP computer where when ever I try to open Control Panel nothing happens, nothing flashes on the screen. Same thing with Internet Explorer. I've scanned the computer with Malwarebytes and Avast, Malwaresbytes found some Adware which it removed without problems. Avast found nothing. I looked at the running processes with Process Explorer, nothing malicious running. And looked at a Process Monitor output when I tried to run IE, nothing obviously wrong. The process just decides to exit. What can I try next? I would suspect corrupt IE install but Control Panel doesn't work either. UPDATE: Nether work in Safe Mode under the user account. (only 1 user on the computer) But in Safe Mode, under the built in Administrator account, they work. So what ever is broken, is only broken in the one account. Anything under the HKCU registry key that could break this?

  • Using Zentyal to control several servers

    I am currently in the process of creating a home server, made up of several virtual machines, each running a different type of server (i.e. a file server, a multimedia server, a firewall and a print server as of now). Today I discovered this new software, Zentyal, which looks interesting for system and network administration. However, I haven't understood one thing: can it be used only with its preconfigured packages or can it also be used to control other servers running other programs (in my case, the four virtual machines)?. Also, would you suggest to use such a program or do you think it's better to control each server on its own?

  • Excel controls not visible for certain users

    One of the users of an Excel program I've written is having a weird problem. None of the control objects (Command Button, ComboBox, etc.) are visible to him when he opens the file on his laptop. He is using Excel 2003, the same version I used to create the program, and enables macros using the pop-up when the file loads. I have Googled this, and have found these people who seem to be having the exact same problem, with various versions of Excel. Unfortunately, none of their questions were answered. I can't really explain it any better than this user: If I enter design mode and pull a control from the control toolbar onto a sheet all I see are the drag handles. When not in design mode I have to feel around with the mouse and can click the button which executes the button click code correctly and opens another sheet where again I have to feel around for the buttons to return me to the original sheet. The button I managed to click is now visible but as soon as I click anywhere on the sheet it disappears. I have verified that the visible property of the buttons is set and that the Show All Objects on the Options View tab is selected. If I pull buttons from the Forms toolbar onto a sheet they are visible. If I try to find Objects using F5 when not in design mode Excel reports no objects on the sheet. So, Super Users, can you help? UPDATE: Thanks for your replies, but much like the person in the ozgrid link, the problem has gone away. Not sure why it went, but I can confirm that the user rebooted again and also started up other Excel files that didn't contain controls in the interim. Perhaps that fixed it, or maybe it'll be back again. I'll keep udating with progress, and close if the problem doesn't reoccur for the next few days. Thanks again.

  • How can I remap control+e to escape+control+e in iTerm2?

    I have set up a few custom keyboard shortcuts in iTerm2 to easily move the cursor around with the arrow keys, but now I'd like to remap control+e to be escape, control+e because bash 4.2 no longer auto-expands variables using the tab key. I know I've done the first part correctly in choosing the keyboard shortcut to remap, but I don't understand how to look up the correct escape sequence (or hex codes) to send in the bottom section: I reference they keyboard codes but that wasn't much help. How can I remap this, and how can I look up the codes in the future? (No luck with Google) Update @db - thanks.   • Visual Studio Express 2012 - Moving items to tab control loses actions

    VS 2012 Express on Windows 7 Professional, this was pre SP1 install. I have a windows form that I had several elements (Listboxes, buttons, text and labels), with some actions associated with changing indices on the list boxes and of course the button actions. I decided I wanted to add a tab control to enable a second tab with a different feature set, so I copied/cut/pasted all of the original items to a tab control that I added. When I did this, all of the elements lost their click action in the events window. I had to go and re-associate all of them. Is this a normal behavior/known issue, or is there some method to move controls that I am not aware of?

  • HP Pavilion dv3 volume control display driver on Windows 7

    I've recently bought an HP Pavilion dv3-2150ep and I'm having a hard time getting the volume control display to work as expected. The control is a back-lit touch-sensitive bar above the keyboard. Now the buttons to turn the volume up and down actually do it, but the lightning is not changing at all. The mute button does change color when toggled. I'm not sure if I'm missing any drivers here (I've installed all of those on the HP support page that seem to have something to do with sound and/or display) or if I have to activate this somewhere. Any ideas?

  • Strange characters appearing on websites - ASCII? - UNICODE?

    I have created many very simple pure HTML websites over the years. Most of them appear to work fine most of the time. But there is one recurring problem which I have never quite sorted out involving strange characters. The scenario goes like this: I create the site. I look at it in my browser, everything appears fine. I may look at it a great many times over the coming weeks or months as I make additions here and there. Perhaps on a variety of browsers on a variety of PC's. Then one day I look at the page and see a random sprinkling of white question marks against dark diamond shapes. These might appear where I had expected to see hyphens or quotes or apostrophes. My immediate thought is that my browser got into some strange state because I was looking at some foreign website with strange characters, but I'm never quite sure. I'm left with that nagging feeling that perhaps half the planet is seeing my website with funny question marks all over it. So my question is what's going on? What should I do to ensure that as many people as possible around the world can view my text as I originally intended? Should I be using those special html sequences like &pound; for all non alphanumeric characters? Should I worry at all? Edit: Right now I have the problem occurring on this page: http://www.fullreservebanking.com/papers.htm ... part of it looks like this: I am using FireFox 5 and the character encoding currently appears to be "UNICODE (UTF-8)". I do not remember manually setting the character encoding to anything since installation. I do occasionally look at Japanese websites for work related reasons - though when I do so, I do not manually make any changes to firefox settings. Edit: Now fixed. Web page altered accordingly.

  • How to Force Graphics Options in PC Games with NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel Graphics

    PC games usually have built-in graphics options you can change. But you’re not limited to the options built into games — the graphics control panels bundled with graphics drivers allow you to tweak options from outside PC games. For example, these tools allow you to force-enabling antialiasing to make old games look better, even if they don’t normally support it. You can also reduce graphics quality to get more performance on slow hardware. If You Don’t See These Options If you don’t have the NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Catalyst Control Center, or Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel installed, you may need to install the appropriate graphics driver package for your hardware from the hardware manufacturer’s website. The drivers provided via Windows Update don’t include additional software like the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center. Drivers provided via Windows Update are also more out of date. If you’re playing PC games, you’ll want to have the latest graphics drivers installed on your system. NVIDIA Control Panel The NVIDIA Control Panel allows you to change these options if your computer has NVIDIA graphics hardware. To launch it, right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel. To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate. By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does. If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware. AMD Catalyst Control Center AMD’s Catalyst Control Center allows you to change these options on AMD graphics hardware. To open it, right-click your desktop background and select Catalyst Control Center. You can also right-click the Catalyst icon in your system tray and select Catalyst Control Center or perform a Start menu (or Start screen) search for Catalyst Control Center. Click the Gaming category at the left side of the Catalyst Control Center window and select 3D Application Settings to access the graphics settings you can change. The System Settings tab allows you to configure these options globally, for all games. Mouse over any option to see an explanation of what it does. You can also set per-application 3D settings and tweak your settings on a per-game basis. Click the Add option and browse to a game’s .exe file to change its options. Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel Intel integrated graphics is nowhere near as powerful as dedicated graphics hardware from NVIDIA and AMD, but it’s improving and comes included with most computers. Intel doesn’t provide anywhere near as many options in its graphics control panel, but you can still tweak some common settings. To open the Intel graphics control panel, locate the Intel graphics icon in your system tray, right-click it, and select Graphics Properties. You can also right-click the desktop and select Graphics Properties. Select either Basic Mode or Advanced Mode. When the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel appears, select the 3D option. You’ll be able to set your Performance or Quality setting by moving the slider around or click the Custom Settings check box and customize your Anisotropic Filtering and Vertical Sync preference. Different Intel graphics hardware may have different options here. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see more advanced options appear in the future if Intel is serious about competing in the PC graphics market, as they say they are. These options are primarily useful to PC gamers, so don’t worry about them — or bother downloading updated graphics drivers — if you’re not a PC gamer and don’t use any intensive 3D applications on your computer.     Hi, I have some issues with my email -body when i send mails I'm using php in my site. My website is a spanish site , when ever i send a mail some special characters are comming in that mail. Always there is an ! mark in that mail, that too in the same place below is the code which i'm using and an email which i got.   • Are UTF16 (as used by for example wide-winapi functions) characters always 2 byte long?

    Please clarify for me, how does UTF16 work? I am a little confused, considering these points: There is a static type in C++, WCHAR, which is 2 bytes long. (always 2 bytes long obvisouly) Most of msdn and some other documentation seem to have the assumptions that the characters are always 2 bytes long. This can just be my imagination, I can't come up with any particular examples, but it just seems that way. There are no "extra wide" functions or characters types widely used in C++ or windows, so I would assume that UTF16 is all that is ever needed. To my uncertain knowledge, unicode has a lot more characters than 65535, so they obvisouly don't have enough space in 2 bytes. UTF16 seems to be a bigger version of UTF8, and UTF8 characters can be of different lengths. So if a UTF16 character not always 2 bytes long, how long else could it be? 3 bytes? or only multiples of 2? And then for example if there is a winapi function that wants to know the size of a wide string in characters, and the string contains 2 characters which are each 4 bytes long, how is the size of that string in characters calculated? Is it 2 chars long or 4 chars long? (since it is 8 bytes long, and each WCHAR is 2 bytes)

  • Can first descendent be selected directly?

    I am currently using find() and first() method to select the first descendent element from each of the <div> elements that contains the parent class. But I find this quite cumbersome since find() method would produce a set of matched elements before the first element is being picked.   • What is a simple deformer in which vertices deform linearly with control points?

    In my project I want to deform a complex mesh, using a simpler 'proxy' mesh. In effect, each vertex of the proxy/collision mesh will be a control point/bone, which should deform the vertices of the main mesh attached to it depending on weight, but where the weight is not dependant on the absolute distance from the control point but rather distance relative to the other affecting control points. The point of this is to preserve complex three dimensional features of the main mesh while using physics implementations which expect something far simpler, low resolution, single surface, etc. Therefore, the vertices must deform linearly with their respective weighted control points (i.e. no falloff fields or all the mesh features will end up collapsed) - as if each vertex was linked to a point on the plane created by the attached control points and deformed with it. I have tried implementing the weight computation algorithm in this paper (page 4) but it is not working as expected and I am wondering if it is really the best way to do what I want. What is the simplest way to 'skin'* an arbitrary mesh, to another arbitrary mesh? *By skin I mean I need an algorithm to determine the best control points for a vertex, and their weights.

    I have a WPF application which runs as a excel plugin, it has its visual tree like so Excel ElementHost WPF UserControl WPF ribbon bar control Now any controls sitting on the WPF ribbon bar control are not enabled when the plugin is loaded within excel. See error below System.Windows.Data Error: 4 : Cannot find source for binding with reference 'RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType='System.Windows.Window', AncestorLevel='1''. BindingExpression:Path=IsActive; DataItem=null; target element is 'Ribbon' (Name=''); target property is 'NoTarget' (type 'Object') If I nest the ribbon bar control in a standalone Window(outside excel) it works fine. Is there a way to intercept the FindAncestor call for a Window and wire it to something else.? Note that I cannot change the above binding as it isn't my control.

    I use asp:Login control, user can login properly, but while checking user Profile information within LoggedIn event of Login control, all of the fields in the Profile objects are empty. Also, User.Identity.IsAuthenticated always returns false. But, all of these issue solved while navigating to another page. Why User.Identity.IsAuthenticated returns false, even user logged-in properly? And, is there any way to get user's profile information within LoggedIn event of Login control?

  • Scrollbar still is painted after it should be removed

    I have the following custom control and can place on a form (with AutoScroll set to true and the control anchored left, top and right). If the form is too short for the control, the form correctly resizes the control (to make room for the scroll) and displays the scroll bar. When the control is closed using the close glyph, the control is resized and the scroll bar is removed, but occasionally the scroll bar appears to remain painted. If the form is minimized or moved off-screen, the leftover paint is removed. I've tried Parent.Invalidate and have toyed with it in many ways but to no avail. Any suggestions?     Hi I have an asp:bulletedlist control, which sits inside a div tag, and I need to count the number of list items inside the control. Searching the internet, and noting the fact the html given back by the items is a list i.e. <li>, I thought I could use an example of: var listcontrol = document.getElementById('BulletedList1'); var countItems = listcontrol.getElementByTagName('li').length; However, when I do this, it throws and error saying that no object exists for this control. So, my problem is, and because I must do this clientside because I want to use this to set the height of the div tag, is how do you count the number of items inside a asp:bulletedlist control with javascript?

  • Using Read-Only Fields in a C# WebBrowser

    I'm currently using a WebBrowser control in a C# WinForms application, and attempting to control some variability presented with this control. Basically, my users log in to a separate UI provided by my application, which then displays the WebBrowser control, navigates to a predetermined log-in URL, and then auto-fills the username and password fields on that page. However, in order to prevent unpredictable behavior in this WebBrowser control, I want to make these username and password text boxes read-only after they are auto-populated. Essentially, I want the user to see a browser page that has been filled out for them, and that cannot be edited. (This is so that any authentication errors can be handled by my application as opposed to the browser.) The code I'm currently using to populate the text fields and make them read only is as follows: webBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("username").InnerText = username; webBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("password").InnerText = password; webBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("username").Enabled = false; webBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("password").Enabled = false; Unfortunately, when I try to make the fields read-only, the authentication server acts like the password field was not filled out, and prompts the user to fill it out again after the "Submit" button is clicked. Is this expected behavior, and if so, what other methods can I try to prevent users from changing the credentials that the browser was auto-populated with?

  • How to avoid strange characters before the request in firefox?

    Hi, on a website i'm currently developing I'm using jquery to do all sort of magic things :-) In firefox however, when I load jquery 1.4.2 there are sometimes funny characters in front of the request. You can see the strangers characters in this screenshot (thank you firebug). In safari, Chrome and IE these funny characters don't appear, jquery is loading fine in those browsers. Why are those characters appearing and how can I remove them? Thanks!!
