  • ^M characters when using Tramp (on Windows) to connect to Ubuntu Server

    - by jamting
I've set up Tramp on Emacs on my Windows 7 box (64 bit). For this test, this is the only thing in my emacs-config: (setq tramp-default-method "plink") Then I connect to my Ubuntu Server 9.10 running in a VM on my local network. Connection goes fine, i can use dired to browse folders and open files. Yay! However, git status shows up as: Git:master^M An when i open speedbar all folders and files ends with ^M, ie: <+ conf/^M Does anyone know how to prevent this line-ending collision from occurring?

  • Sinatra / Rack fails with non-ascii characters in url

    - by Piotr Zolnierek
I am getting Encoding::UndefinedConversionError at /find/Wroclaw "\xC5" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8 For some mysterious reason sinatra is passing the string as ASCII instead of UTF-8 as it should. I have found some kind of ugly workaround... I don't know why Rack assumes the encoding is ASCII-8BIT ... anyway, a way is to use string.force_encoding("UTF-8")... but doing this for all params is tedious

  • Two-way data binding of controls in a user control inside a FormView

    - by Sandor Drieënhuizen
I'm trying to perform two-way data binding on the controls in my user control, which is hosted inside a FormView template. FormView: <asp:ObjectDataSource runat="server" ID="ObjectDataSource" TypeName="WebApplication1.Data" SelectMethod="GetItem" UpdateMethod="UpdateItem"> </asp:ObjectDataSource> <asp:FormView runat="server" ID="FormView"> <ItemTemplate> <uc:WebUserControl1 runat="server"></uc:WebUserControl1> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <uc:WebUserControl1 runat="server"></uc:WebUserControl1> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:FormView> User control: <%@ Control Language="C#" ... %> <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="TitleTextBox" Text='<%# Bind("Title") %>'> </asp:TextBox> The binding works fine when the FormView is in View mode but when I switch to Edit mode, upon calling UpdateItem on the FormView, the bindings are lost. I know this because the FormView tries to call an update method on the ObjectDataSource that does not have an argument called 'Title'. I tried to solve this by implementing IBindableTemplate to load the controls that are inside my user control, directly into the templates (just like I had entered them declaratively like in the code above). However, when calling UpdateItem in edit mode, the container that gets passed into the ExtractValues method of the template, does not contain the TextBox anymore. It did in view mode! I have found some questions on SO that relate to this problem but they are rather dated and don't provide straight forward answers. How do you think I could solve this problem? It seems to be such a simple requirement but apparently it's more like opening a can of worms...

  • Make compiler copy characters using movsd

    - by Suma
I would like to copy a relatively short sequence of memory (less than 1 KB, typically 2-200 bytes) in a time critical function. The best code for this on CPU side seems to be rep movsd. However I somehow cannot make my compiler to generate this code. I hoped (and I vaguely remember seeing so) using memcpy would do this using compiler built-in instrinsic, but based on disassembly and debugging it seems compiler is using call to memcpy/memmove library implementation instead. I also hoped the compiler might be smart enough to recognize following loop and use rep movsd on its own, but it seems it does not. char *dst; const char *src; // ... for (int r=size; --r>=0; ) *dst++ = *src++; Is there some way to make the Visual Studio compiler to generate rep movsd sequence other than using inline assembly?

  • XPath and special characters

    - by Bryan
I am having an issue with an XPath query I'm performing for a Sitecore CMS system. This query works fine: /root/content/Meta-Data/Tips/* But when I try this: /root/content/Meta-Data/Tips/*[@SomeAttribute='somekey'] I get an error which says "End of string expected at position 22" which is where the dash character is found. I was under the impression that the dash was not a special character in XML... am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to encode this in some way? Or is this a bug in the XPath parser? Any suggested workarounds?

  • Read alphanumeric characters from csv file in C#

    - by Prasad
I am using the following code to read my csv file: public DataTable ParseCSV(string path) { if (!File.Exists(path)) return null; string full = Path.GetFullPath(path); string file = Path.GetFileName(full); string dir = Path.GetDirectoryName(full); //create the "database" connection string string connString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;" + "Data Source=\"" + dir + "\\\";" + "Extended Properties=\"text;HDR=Yes;FMT=Delimited;IMEX=1\""; //create the database query string query = "SELECT * FROM " + file; //create a DataTable to hold the query results DataTable dTable = new DataTable(); //create an OleDbDataAdapter to execute the query OleDbDataAdapter dAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(query, connString); //fill the DataTable dAdapter.Fill(dTable); dAdapter.Dispose(); return dTable; } But the above doesn't reads the alphanumeric value from the csv file. it reads only i either numeric or alpha. Whats the fix i need to make to read the alphanumeric values? Please suggest.

  • C# - File Encoding Problem.

    - by user301330
Hello, I'm have a StringBuilder that is writing content to a file. Towards the end of each file, I'm writing the copyright symbol. Oddly, I have noticed that whenever the copyright symbol is written, it is preceeded by a "Â". My code that generates the content of the file looks like this: using (StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter()) { stringWriter = GetFileContent(); string targetPath = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["TargetPath"]; using (StreamWriter streamWriter = new StreamWriter(targetPath, false)) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(stringWriter.ToString()); // Attempted fix string content = sb.ToString(); content = content.Replace("Â", ""); streamWriter.Write(content); } } As you can tell, I tried to do a find-and-replace. In the process, I noticed that a "Â" was not in the content itself. This makes me believe there is something occurring in the streamWriter. However, I'm not sure what it could be. Can someone please tell me why a "Â" would be popping up before the "©" symbol and how to fix it? I believe it has something to do with encoding, but I'm not sure Thank you!

But when I add title=john to the table for example, I get something like this: title = "[][][][]john" and when I extract the value, it's a newline then john. I have my columns set to utf-8, I tried swedish character set as well. Note: I don't get this error when inserting values from the phpMyAdmin commandline

  • Problem with eastern european characters when scraping data from the European Parliaments Website

    - by Thomas Jensen
Dear Experts I am trying to scrape a lot of data from the European Parliament website for a research project. Ther first step is the create a list if all parliamentarians, however due to the many Eastern European names and the accents they use i get a lot of missing entries. Here is an example of what is giving me troubles (notice the accents at the end of the family name): ANDRIKIENE, Laima Liucija Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) So far I have been using PyParser and the following code: parser_names name = Word(alphanums + alphas8bit) begin, end = map(Suppress, "<") names = begin + ZeroOrMore(name) + "," + ZeroOrMore(name) + end for name in names.searchString(page): print(name) However this does not catch the name from the html above. Any advice in how to proceed? Best, Thomas

  • Greek/latin scientific JLabel in Java Swing application

    - by MartinStettner
For a scientific application I want to design an input form which lets the user enter certain parameters. Some of them are designated using greek letters, some of them have latin letters. The parameter names should be displayed using ordinary JLabel controls. On Windows, the Tahoma font (which is used for Labels by default) contains both latin and greek letters, so I simply set the Text property of the label to a greek (unicode) string and everything works fine. I'm wondering if this works also without modifications on Linux and OSX systems resp. for which Java/OS versions this would work. Also I'm curious if there's an easy way to show subscripts in labels ("\eta_0" in TeX), but this is not that important for my application ...

  • convert special characters but not tags

    - by Tom
I've got some text which needs converting to use HTML entities, but it also contains tags. Here's a sample: <p>Ofcom issued the warning to Global-owned GWR in Bristol – which is required to operate as a "contemporary and chart music and information station" – for operating outside the music </p> The (" and -) need to be converted but the paragraph tags must remain HTML. Using something like htmlentities converts everything, how can I convert everything but the tags?

  • In asp.Net, writing code in the control tag generates compile error

    - by Nour Sabouny
Hi this is really strange !! But look at the following asp code: <div runat="server" id="MainDiv"> <%foreach (string str in new string[]{"First#", "Second#"}) { %> <div id="<%=str.Replace("#","div") %>"> </div> <%} %> </div> now if you put this code inside any web page (and don't worry about the moral of this code, I made it just to show the idea) you'll get this error : Compiler Error Message: CS1518: Expected class, delegate, enum, interface, or struct Of course the error has nothing to do with the real problem, I searched for the code that was generated by asp.net and figured out the following : private void @__RenderMainDiv(System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter @__w, System.Web.UI.Control parameterContainer) { @__w.Write("\r\n "); #line 20 "blabla\blabla\Default.aspx" foreach (string str in new string[] { "First#", "Second#" }) { #line default #line hidden @__w.Write("\r\n <div id=\""); #line 22 "blabla\blabla\Default.aspx" @__w.Write(str.Replace("#", "div")); #line default #line hidden @__w.Write("\">\r\n "); } This is the code that was generated from the asp page and this is the method that is meant to render our div (MainDiv), I found out that there is a missing bracket "}" that closes the method or the (for loop). now the problem has three parts: 1- first you should have a server control (in our situation is the MainDiv) and I'm not sure if it is only the div tag. 2- HTML control inside the server control and a code inside it using the double quotation mark ( for example <div id="<%=str instead of <div id='<%=str. 3-Any keyword which has block brackets e.g.:for{},while{},using{}...etc. now removing any part, will solve the problem !!! how is this happening ?? any ideas ? BTW: please help me to make the question more obvious, because I couldn't find the best words to describe the problem.

  • Add ability to provide list items to composite control with DropDownLIst

    - by Kyle
I'm creating a composite control for a DropDownList (that also includes a Label). The idea being that I can use my control like a dropdown list, but also have it toss a Label onto the page in front of the DDL. I have this working perfectly for TextBoxes, but am struggling with the DDL because of the Collection (or Datasource) component to populate the DDL. Basically I want to be able to do something like this: <ecc:MyDropDownList ID="AnimalType" runat="server" LabelText="this is what will be in the label"> <asp:ListItem Text="dog" Value="dog" /> <asp:ListItem Text="cat" Value="cat" /> </ecc:MyDropDownList> The problem is, I'm not extending the DropDownList class for my control, so I can't simply work it with that magic. I need some pointers to figure out how I can turn my control (MyDropDownList), which is currently just a System.Web.UI.UserControl, into something that will accept List items within the tag and ideally, I'd like to be able to plug it into a datasource (the same functions that the regular DDL offers). I tried with no luck just extending the regular DDL, but couldn't get the Label component to fly with it.

  • Escaping escape Characters

    - by Alix Axel
I'm trying to mimic the json_encode bitmask flags implemented in PHP 5.3.0, here is the string I have: $s = addslashes('O\'Rei"lly'); // O\'Rei\"lly Doing json_encode($str, JSON_HEX_APOS | JSON_HEX_QUOT) outputs the following: "O\\\u0027Rei\\\u0022lly" And I'm currently doing this in PHP versions older than 5.3.0: str_replace(array('\\"', "\\'"), array('\\u0022', '\\\u0027'), json_encode($s)) or str_replace(array('\\"', '\\\''), array('\\u0022', '\\\u0027'), json_encode($s)) Which correctly outputs the same result: "O\\\u0027Rei\\\u0022lly" I'm having trouble understanding why do I need to replace single quotes ('\\\'' or even "\\'" [surrounding quotes excluded]) with '\\\u0027' and not just '\\u0027'.

  • Using only alphanumeric characters(a-z) inside toCharArray

    - by Aaron
Below you will find me using toCharArray in order to send a string to array. I then MOVE the value of the letter using a for statement... for(i = 0; i < letter.length; i++){ letter[i] += (shiftCode); System.out.print(letter[i]); } However, when I use shiftCode to move the value such as... a shifted by -1; I get a symbol @. Is there a way to send the string to shiftCode or tell shiftCode to ONLY use letters? I need it to see my text, like "aaron", and when I use the for statement iterate through a-z only and ignore all symbols and numbers. I THINK it is as simple as... letter=codeWord.toCharArray(a,z); But trying different forms of that and googling it didn't give me any results. Perhaps it has to do with regex or something? Below you will find a complete copy of my program; it works exactly how I want it to do; but it iterates through letters and symbols. I also tried finding instructions online for toCharArray but if there exists any arguments I can't locate them. My program... import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; /* * Aaron L. Jones * CS219 * AaronJonesProg3 * * This program is designed to - * Work as a Ceasar Cipher */ /** * * Aaron Jones */ public class AaronJonesProg3 { static String codeWord; static int shiftCode; static int i; static char[] letter; /** * @param args the command line arguments */ public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { // Instantiating that Buffer Class // We are going to use this to read data from the user; in buffer // For performance related reasons BufferedReader reader; // Building the reader variable here // Just a basic input buffer (Holds things for us) reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in)); // Java speaks to us here / We get it to query our user System.out.print("Please enter text to encrypt: "); // Try to get their input here try { // Get their codeword using the reader codeWord = reader.readLine(); // Make that input upper case codeWord = codeWord.toUpperCase(); // Cut the white space out codeWord = codeWord.replaceAll("\\s",""); // Make it all a character array letter = codeWord.toCharArray(); } // If they messed up the input we let them know here and end the prog. catch(Throwable t) { System.out.println(t.toString()); System.out.println("You broke it. We let them know. catch(java.lang.NumberFormatException ioe) { System.out.println(ioe.toString()); System.out.println("How did you break this? Use a number next time!"); } for(i = 0; i < letter.length; i++){ letter[i] += (shiftCode); System.out.print(letter[i]); } System.out.println(); /**************************************************************** **************************************************************** ***************************************************************/ // Java speaks to us here / We get it to query our user System.out.print("Please enter text to decrypt: "); // Try to get their input here try { // Get their codeword using the reader codeWord = reader.readLine(); // Make that input upper case codeWord = codeWord.toUpperCase(); // Cut the white space out codeWord = codeWord.replaceAll("\\s",""); // Make it all a character array letter = codeWord.toCharArray(); } // If they messed up the input we let them know here and end the prog. catch(Throwable t) { System.out.println(t.toString()); System.out.println("You broke it. I am processing an XML file (which does not contain any dtd or ent declarations) in C# that contains entities such as &eacute; and &agrave;. I receive the following exception when attempting to load an XML file... XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); xmlDoc.LoadXml(record); Reference to undeclared entity 'eacute'. I was able to track down the proper ent file here. How do I tell XmlDocument to use this ent file when loading my XML file?
