• Lotus Notes - Fails to move inbox article to subfolder

  Lotus Notes 8.5 - yuck! User is trying to move an email from the Inbox into a subfolder and is using the menu option (not dragging & dropping) the email simply fails to move. It just appears again in the inbox. Drag and drop has the same effect! I have checked that it is a failure to move and not just a copy/delete issue. I am not a Notes adminstrator, being more of a MS Exchange administrator by career path and have no idea what to be looking for.

• How to avoid clobbering files when creating a tar archive

  This question notes that it is possible to overwrite files when creating a tar archive, and I'm trying to see how to avoid that situation. Normally, I'd use file roller, but the version installed is playing up a bit (using 1.1 Gb of memory), and I'm not the system administrator. I looked at --confirmation and --interactive, but that only asks me if I want to add file x to the archive, not whether I want to overwrite an existing file. For example, tar --interactive -czvf innocent_text_file.txt foo* Will ask me about each file, but is perfectly happy to overwrite innocent_text_file.txt Is there any switch that acts like -i for cp? Note I am asking about creating an archive, not extracting an archive. Clarification What I'm worried about is accidentally doing something like this tar -czvf * #Don't do this! which would overwrite the first file listed in the glob. To avoid it, I want tar to complain if the first file mentioned already exists, like cp -i * #Don't do this! would check if it would cause you to overwrite an existing file.

  I'm trying to set up some ports from a WIX installer. For WinXP we use httpcfg in a custom action and this works fine. For Win7, we're trying: netsh http add urlacl url=http://127.0.0.1/8346/ user="NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" sddl="D:(A;;GX;;;AU)" The WIX installer correctly executes this statement and sets up the ports - FOR THE ADMINISTRATOR who runs the .msi. Users with lesser priviliges cannot access these ports. I need to set it up for all users on the machine, but I've tried about everything I can think of with no luck. Something I find odd is that the Admin user can see the assigned ports using netstat -a, but they do not appear at all using netsh http show urlacl...is that an indicator of something wrong?

  I want to know what kind of technologies are used nowadays as underlying screen capture engine for remote administration software like VNC pcAnywhere TeamViewer RAC Remote Administrator etc.. The programming language is not so important as just to know whether a driver needs to be developed which is polling video memory 30 times per second or there are any com objects built in the Windows kernel to help doing this? I'm not interested in 3rd party components for doing this. Do I have to use DirectX facilities? Just want some start point to develop my own screen stream capture engine, which will be less CPU hog.

But I can't find any clue on how to change this.

• Setting Sql server security rights for multiple situations

  We have an application which uses an instance of Sql Server locally for its backend storage. The administrator windows login has had its sysadmin right revoked, and instead two sql logins have been created; one for the application with a secret password and one read only login we let users view the raw data with. This was working fine until we moved on FileStreams, which requires intergrated windows authentication. So now the sql server logins must be replaced. As a result, I am now reviewing all of our logins but I am not sure how it is possible. It seems that the application needs full read/write access, yet I still need to lock down writing to the tables so the user cannot login into the database and delete data randomly. Does anyone have any tips for setting multiple levels of security using intergrated windows logins, or can you direct me to any further reading? • Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access?   We have a requirement, wherein the administrative user needs to proxy in as a certain user in an environment where several users (Role: User) are managed by an administrator (Role: Admin). e.g If we have the following users in the database (admin, user1, user2, user3), we would want the admin to proxy as 'user2' and use the system in certain scenarios. Authentication in our web application is based username / password credentials, what mechanisms are available for the admin to proxy as 'user2' when he doesn't have the password for 'user2'. How can the application track such access for audit purposes to mention that 'admin' had proxied for 'user2' and performed certain actions. I am looking for suggestions on supporting this in our j2ee (jboss seam) web application.

• FBA site owner encounter access deny in sharepoint 2007

  I created a sharepoint 2007 publishing site first using windows authentication, then extended it to another site using FBA. I created a FBA user and set it as site collection admin as well as top site owner. I also make application pool which the FBA site is running in to run with a user account which is within administrator group. But I encounter access deny error when browsing certain links using this site owner account. Is there other settings I need to configure? I found in the web.config, the impersonation is set to true. How does this affect the access rights?

• Installing Tangible T4 Editor in VS 2010 RC

  I installed the (free) Tangible T4 Editor from the VS Gallery, and shut down/restarted VS. I run on XP under an Administrator account. VS Extension Manager indicates that the editor is installed and enabled. Here is my problem: When I do Add New Item (as in the video here), I don't see any of the Tangible templates. What have I missed? (BTW, I looked around some more, found the T4 Toolbox, installed that, and still see no new templates for Tangible or the toolbox). Thanks!

  I am getting the following error on my page: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. The problem is with the following code SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient("smtp.gmail.com", 587); What's weird is that when testing it at my localhost, everything works fine, but when I put it on my 1and1 web host it generates the error above. I contacted their support and here's their answer. We do check the error logs and the operation require a FullTrust environment which currently fall under restriction on .NET Framewor k What should I do?

I'm following the official guide at https://gerrit-review.googlesource.com/Documentation/install-quick.html#_already_existing_project. However, when issuing the push command all the branches and tags, except "master" which I'm currently in, are "prohibited by Gerrit". • Creating a process in a non-zero session from a service in windows-2008-server?

  Hi, I was wondering if there is a simple way for a service to create a process in user session? My service is running as a user(administrator) account and not as a LocalSystem acount, therefore i can't use the WTSQueryUserToken function. i have tried calling OpenProcessToken(GetCurrentProcess,TOKEN_ALL_ACCESS,TokenHandle); but when i use this token to run CreateProcessAsUser(TokenHandle,.....) my process is still running in session 0. how can i resolve this issue? I'm using an Ole automation so i don't really care on which session the process will be running on, as long it is not the session 0 - because the Ole from some reason doesn't create its processes (winword.exe for instance) in session 0, but rather it creates them in other user sessions. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

  In my grails application, some of my domain classes will never be changed by Users. However, some maintenance work is sometimes necessary, and administrator should be able to create/edit few instances from time to time (let's say twice a year). I would like to set a read-only 2nd level cache strategy for these domain classes (static mapping = { cache usage: 'read-only' } ) AND I would like to be able to 'disable' (in very particular situations) the read-only strategy in order to udate some instances via Grails scaffolding edit view. Is it possible? What do you advise me to do? EDIT: The solution I am implementing is a mix of Pascal and Burt answers (see comments). Both answers are great and helpful. So I got a dilemna for choosing the accepted answer! Anyway, thank you.

• Where should I store my application data?

  I have an application that needs to store data. Currently, I am using the built-in Application Settings to do it, but it only gives me two choices: application and user scopes. Ideally, I want a "local" scope that allows the application to run under another user and still find its data rather than recreate it for that user. The application scope can do this, but it's read only. The application data will be changed by the user. It's OK if only the administrator is allowed to make changes to the data. As you probably can guess, I have an administration tool that allows the user to change the data and windows service runner that reads the data and does something with it. It would be great if the windows service runner access the data created by the administration tool.

• Is the Silverstripe CMS as easy to deploy, maintain, and develop on as it appears?

  Although I haven't thought about deploying it on my own site, someone I know sent me a link to a CMS called SilverStripe that I've never heard of before. I read their site, looked at and played around with their demo, and so on. It looks like it's a CMS backed by a custom PHP framework that they call Sapphire. And from what I can gather on their website and using their demo, it potentially might be as good and easy as they say (once you get past any learning curve, which appears to be small, considering it looks a lot like other PHP frameworks and CMSes). Has anyone here ever deployed, maintained, or developed a CMS using SilverStripe? If so, could you shed some light on it, from a developer's point-of-view? I also found this earlier question about SilverStripe here on StackOverflow, but I'm more interested from a development point of view than a user or administrator point of view.

  I'm creating a certificate to use with an SslStream, and I've been doing it this way under XP: makecert -r -pe -n "CN=aName" -ss my -sr localmachine -sky exchange -sp "Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider" -sy 12 server.cer If I understand this correctly, this creates a certificate in server.cer, and creates a private key for it in my personal certificate store. Once I have done this, I can create a certificate object like this: X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile(certFile); I then use it with the SSLStream, and everything works fine. Now that I have switched to Windows 7, the private key seems to be disappearing every time I restart the machine. I run a command prompt as Administrator, and execute the same makecert command shown above. This succeeds and the SSL connection works correctly. If I restart the machine, the call to AuthenticateAsServer fails with the exception "The server mode SSL must use a certificate with the associated private key." Why is the private key disappearing? What do I need to do to make it stick around?

• From admin to dev [closed]

  Recently a friend of mine had gone from a high level NOC position to a developer. Before that he was just doing the help desk stuff. He has no degree, only the usual MIS/networking certifications and as far as I know only tinkers with code on the weekends. I can see where in some scenarios having a good understanding of configurations, packets, users, OU's, etc would be extremely beneficial to a developer. My question is this, how many full time developers started off this way? Even how many people dual wield the responsibility of developer/systems administrator/network administration?

  Hi all, I created one InfoPath form which is having C# code and i gave security option is 'full trusted' to access infopath object model,and it should be open with Browser.finally i published the Infopath form to SharePoint(by using admin-approved) site. But when i'am trying to open, it is not opening and giving an error that is 'InfoPath can not create a new or blank form InfoPath can not open the form,To fix this problem,Contact your System administrator' and in error show details its giving following message. 'The form template is trying to access files and settings on your computer. InfoPath cannot grant access to these files and settings because the form template is not fully trusted. For a form to run with full trust, it must be installed or digitally signed with a certificate'. please give me a solution.
