• Java: opening and reading from a file without locking it.

  I need to be able to mimic 'tail -f' with Java. I'm trying to read a log file as it's being written by another process, but when I open the file to read it, it locks the file and the other process can't write to it anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated! This application read abc.properties file, Exception in thread "main" java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name abc, locale en_US at java.util.ResourceBundle.throwMissingResourceException(ResourceBundle.java:853) at java.util.ResourceBundle.getBundleImpl(ResourceBundle.java:822) at java.util.ResourceBundle.getBundle(ResourceBundle.java:566) at com.ibm.dst.DailyExtract.getResourceBundle(DailyExtract.java:104) at com.ibm.dst.DailyExtract.main(DailyExtract.java:131) abc.properties file reside at the workspace.   I have a longer text saved in a String. I would like to print the text in two columns on a single page. How can I do this using Java Swing? I don't understand how I can wrap the text when it's time to use a new line. I have read Lesson: Printing in the Java tutorial, but I haven't found any useful methods for working with text or Strings except FontMetrics. Is there any good methods in the Java API for this or is there any good library I can use for this?

  So I re-installed java in a directory that doesn't have any spaces in it, as I was having issues with it before. Java JDK is installed in: E:\downloads\java\jdk I created a User variable: JAVA_HOME E:\downloads\java\jdk And my Path looks like: %JAVA_HOME%\bin;%M2%; Now opening a NEW cmd prompt: c:\java 'java' is not recognized... but echoing works: c:\echo %JAVA_HOME% E:\downloads\java\jdk and so does this: c:\%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java -version java version "1.6.0_17" I am trying to get this to work, so I can then get maven to work as maven is having the same type of issues (I created M2_HOME and M2 and none work). What exactly am I doing wrong? I am having the exact same issue on my laptop also, both are running windows 7. I must be missing something!

  Java works under Firefox but not under IE. Java applet activated in security settings, activated in add-ons, activated in advanced tab; that's the advice they usually give in forums... I've also deleted my temporary internet files, reinstalled IE8 and it is also set as the default java for IE through the control panel. IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :)

  All, We are running a J2EE application on WebLogic server 9.2 MP2 with a jrockit 64-bit JVM (27.3.1) on Solaris 10. We call use runtime.exec to call an executable called jfmerge to create PDF documents. We have found that in Solaris, when runtime.exec is called, a duplicate JVM is temporarily spawned to kick off the jfmerge process. While this is inefficient (our JVM is 5 GB, thus the duplicated shell JVM is also 5 GB), the major problem lies in the fact that when there is heavy load on this functionality (PDF generation) in our application, sometimes the duplicated JVM never exits. When the JVM hangs, the servers create large issues (extreme application slowness and terminated user sessions) as the entire duplicate JVM get's all of its 5 GB of process size written to disk swap. • Single TCP-CLOSE_WAIT connection brings down application till restart

  Recently found a behaviour where my application had a connection in TCP Close_wait state till the app was restarted (after about 5 hours). But during this period the SUnreclaim space was also increasing constantly and went down on restart. The application is runnning on a rhel5 os and Im not very familiar with the memory management system. Would appreciate if someone clould tell me what extactly is the Ureclaim space and why it is increasing in sync with the close_wait.

• GlassFish cluster-targeted jdbc is not enabled

  I have a GlassFish cluster. I've installed the JDBC driver on the new node. Can anybody help?

• SUnreclaim size increasing in syc with a TCP-CLOSE_WAIT till application restart

  Recently found a behaviour where my application had a connection in TCP Close_wait state till the app was restarted (after about 5 hours). But during this period the SUnreclaim space was also increasing constantly and went down on restart. The application is runnning on a rhel5 os and Im not very familiar with the memory management system. Would appreciate if someone clould tell me what extactly is the Ureclaim space and why it is increasing in sync with the close_wait. Thanks.

• How can I limit Safari's RAM use?

  Safari uses a lot of RAM. Especially when you add Safari's use to WebProcess's use: it comes to about 1.5 GB of memory (for me, anyway). How can I limit the amount of RAM Safari and WebProcess use? I know a similar question was asked last summer, but two of those answers have to do with the program in question (Dropbox) and the other answer encourages use of Terminal, which I find terribly confusing. Are there any other methods?

• Ubuntu 14.04 says insufficient memory in my /boot memory alocation while updating

  I am new to Linux platform. I just tried installing Ubuntu alongside windows but allocated only 200 mb to the /boot partition which is not recommended. Now Ubuntu software update keep on insists me no enough space. What should I do? Is there any way to increase my /boot partition without removing the total OS? Or should I completely uninstall Ubuntu and put it back? Please anyone suggest me over this issue. I have no idea what to do. And please be elaborate, as I am new to Linux environment.

• strange memory usage pattern on windows server 2008 on login through remote desktop..

  I'm running Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Service Pack 2 on a VM Ware instance with 10Gb ram allocated. I'm not running IIS or SQL Server. Under 'normal' conditions, the machine uses ~5.5Gb of memory. However, when I login to the server through remote desktop, the memory usage slowly climbs up to 9.8Gb of memory in use. After several minutes the memory slowly creeps back down to the 5.5Gb mark. I've tried killing all the processes associated with my login, on login, barring the taskmanager without success, and I can't see any process that is growing in memory usage when the memory is increasing. I'm assuming this is some system level cache that is growing / shrinking... but why is it doing this?

• (Quaternion based) Trouble moving foward based on model rotation

  Using quaternions, I'm having trouble moving my model in its facing direction. Currently the model moves can move in all cardinal directions with no problems. The problem comes when I rotate the move as it still travelling in the direction of world space. Meaning, if I'm moving forward, backward or any other direction while rotating the model, the model acts like its a figure skater spinning while traveling in the same direction. How do I update the direction of travel proper with the facing direction of the model? The bytecode provider then shows as cglib but I still get the exact same stack trace with javassist present in it. cglib is definitely in the classpath: $ unzip -l flexipol-jar-with-dependencies.jar | grep cglib | wc -l 383 I've tried with both hibernate 3.4 and 3.5 and get the exact same error. Is this a problem with javassist?
