• Replicate / SYNC / Copy thousands of files

  Windows 32BIT Box (Server OS) 4GB RAM a 800GB LUN Mapped to the above box as a local drive Around 700GB of text files (Yes text files and a few thousand word documents) nested in thousands of directories. I need to move this to a new storage and map another server to it. What would be the best way to go about it ? What I did was mapped the existing LUN to our new box and mapped a LUN from the New storage to the new box too, and tried copying (windows copy) but that wasn't good / fast enough considering the downtime. I am now looking for either a script which will do this or a utility (prefer opensource / free) to move this size of data at a good speed. 2 x 1GB Nics teamed ether channel 2GBPs Any suggestions or pointers would be off great help Thanks !

Now I am editing the documents on my Mac using Word 2011. I need to modify the list style; I can create a new multi-level list style from the toolbar dropdown, but I can't right-click to edit an existing one.   How exactly do you have to interpret the output of a commands "usage" output, in bash for example. For example, on my OS X, cp gives me usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file ... target_directory What does the nested options, like -H within -R, indicate? Does upper and lower case have any meaning? When is an argument optional, required? I need to implement a telnet command line against a program of mine and I would like to get this straight.

• How to copy files from shadow copy with long source path

  The files and folders in my shared network drive (set up with DFS) were mass deleted. Currently I am trying to recover the files from the shadow copy "Previous Version". Problem is, thousands of files are deeply nested with long paths making the file path too long. When copying, it shows the dialog "Source Path Too Long". My guess is that the file path just barely hits the limit when saved into the network drive, but shadaw copy service appends the date and time to the folders so the path character limit is exceeded. How else can I copy the files from shadow copy?

• Is it possible to hide folders/subfolders from users based on permissions?

  Having a Windows Server 2008 R2 that has a share with lots of nested folders, I want to be able to only show certain folders to certain AD users/AD user groups. Is it possible to configure the permissions on single folders, so that clients that connect with Windows XP/Windows 7 to the share on the Windows 2008 R2 server only see those folders for which they have "view" permission? Other clients should not see the folders at all in Windows Explorer. I was told that this seems to be a standard feature on Novell networks.

  When trying to install a SSL key on my centos server, apache refuses to restart and I see the following errors in my log. • Problems to connect Java visualVM to a EC2-instance

  I'm trying to profile a AWS EC2 instance via visualVM. The instance is in a securitygroup which allows all connections and i'm runing jstatd with a grant codebase "file:${java.home}/../lib/tools.jar" { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; policy on it. When i try to connect from my local machine with visulVM nothing happens. When i use jps i get the following response $ jps -l -m -v rmi://ec2-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.compute-1.amazonaws.com Error communicating with remote host: Connection refused to host: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out But i can ssh into the instance and use jps locally. Has anyone a pointer in which direction i can debug further?

However, the four CPU cores are visible in Device Manager under Processors. • VirtualBox won't use any kind of hardware acceleration

  I see an problem with VirtualBox hardware acceleration functionality... My system configuration: MSI PH67A-C43 (B3) (BIOS: 2.70) Intel Core i5-2400 Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.10 Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack 4.1.10 I can select the individual acceleration options such as PAE/NX, VT-x/VMD-V or Nested Paging within VM-Settings but if I start the VM the accelerations will be disabled as of the tooltip from CPU (right next to shared folders). Each acceleration is "Disabled". Does this sounds familar to anybody? How can I solve this?

As we all know the C preprocessor replaces all the occurrence of the identifiers with the replacement-string. Considering the above example I would like to know how many times the C preprocessor traverses the program to replace the macro with the replacement values. I assume it cannot be done in one go.

  I am in a situation where I need to make a HTML report into a word report with nothing more that Ctrl+C or opening it with Word. I end up with a lot of nested tables. Problem lies in the fact that css formats the table in HTML while in Word document they are left with horrible looking borders, that need to be invisible. It would take extensive amounts of time to make each tables borders invisible. Is there a way to make all borders of every table in document invisible?

• NFS mount mounted inside another NFS mount disappears randomly

  I have quite an odd issue where my nested NFS mounts just disappear randomly from time to time. The fstab entries look somewhat like this: nfs:/home /home/nfs rw,hard,intr,rsize=32768,noatime,nocto,proto=tcp 0 0 nfs:/bigdir /home/bigdir nfs rw,hard,intr,rsize=32768,noatime,nocto,proto=tcp,bg 0 0 The issue is that from time to time the "/home/bigdir" folder will be empty, even though mtab think that the share is still mounted. nfsstat et. al. do also think the share is still mounted. Only thing that works is by unmounting, and then (re)mounting the bigdir share. The server side is a NetApp. The client side is RHEL5.5, 2.6.18-194 kernel (Yes, I know 5.8 is out, but as far as I can see there are no erratas for this particular issue). I can use various hacks like automount, or mounting it to another path and then using --mount bind, but I would like to fix the underlying issue. -- Best regards Espen Fjellvær Olsen

• Is there any way to get tree organisation for Windows 7 file explorer favorites?

  In XP there was a MenuBar called Favorites which seemed to be based on Internet Explorer Favorites. It was fantastic because it allowed for very fast tree style navigation (if set up correctly you could navigate it using first letter keystrokes, so to access a shortcut named "videos" in a folder named "files" was as quick as Alt-A f v) This was removed in Vista (and imo generally regressed the file explorer). This was fine because I never used it, but I'm resigned to eventually embracing the inevitability that is Windows 7. Dealing with a single non-nested list of favourites is pretty painful to me as I have quite a lot of them. Is there a way to make a tree like favorites structure in Windows 7? My fingers are crossed.

  Background: I have some unicode characters in my prompt (git status markers essentially) I'm running urxvt under xfce on arch linux. I'm using DejaVu Sans Mono for Powerline font, specified via .Xresources line: URxvt*font: xft:DejaVu Sans Mono for Powerline:pixelsize=14 When I start urxvt the unicode characters do not render correctly. For example ? renders as â However, if I then start a new urxvt from inside the first terminal everything renders correctly. There doesn't appear to be any difference in the environment between the two terminals. What could be the difference between the first invocation and the nested invocation? Instead, files are supposed to have a permission of 0644 and folders have a permission 0755. However, this is always worded differently SuPHP won't allow chmod of 777 so we need to set all files to 644 and directories to 755 Your scripts and directories can now, only have a maximum of 755 permissions Set file permission(s) to allow read access only by you (e.g., chmod 600 filename.suphp). What is the exact rule and to what files does it apply to? If I have README file somewhere in a nested directory does its permission need to be updated, or does it only apply to .php files?

Once this VM is golden, I plan on migrating this VM over to the E2160 machine.   I've got a set of 5000+ files that I need to do a simple search and replace in. I have been doing it in a text editor (EditPlus) by opening 500 files at a time, doing a global search/replace, saving all, closing, etc. But, that's taking literally hours to do and it's boring and tedious and I already have done it once today and need to do it again because all the files got refreshed. Is there a way to do this via the Bash command line? Here's the details: Find onchange="document.location ='/products/view.html/view/'+this.value" Replace it with onchange="alert('Not implemented')" style="display: none" All of the files have a .HTM extension, but they are nested in several sub directories.

  I have one file that should only be accessible via the POST method. /var/www/folder/index.php The document root is /var/www/ and index.php is nested inside a folder. • XAMPP won't start Apache on Mac OS

  When I try starting Apache from the XAMPP control panel (Mac OSX Snow Leopard), I get the following error popup and Apache won't start: /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/apachectl: line 70: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Invalid argument (48)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 XAMPP was running perfectly 10 minutes earlier. I stopped Apache to add some .conf files and it failed on restart. I removed all the new .conf files (i.e. reverted it to how it was before) but now I get the above message. EDIT: I've checked AppMonitor and I see the "httpd" processes (one by _www nested within root). Just tried quitting these but they're auto-restarted on new process IDs and it didn't solve the problem.

• How to find all photos taken in April - any April?

  I have 100+ gB of photos going back 25 years. They are arranged in a directory tree by category, with nested sub-directories. How can I make a search for all photos taken in a given month, say April, in any of those directories? I don't think that a Windows search will work as that will probably be the file creation data, which could be a month or two later wen I finally more the files from SD card to PC. Perhaps searching the EXIF data? Is there a free program which can do that?

• How can I tell what command is running on the remote end of an ssh connection?

  Tl;dr - how do I find the name of the command (eg $BASH_COMMAND) running on the remote end of an ssh connection? ... My example setup is two tmux vertical panes, LH pane runs a local vim session with vertical split, RH pane runs an ssh session running vim, again with a vertical split. Using tmux-navigator I can navigate from left to right over the first 3 vim buffers, but the 4th (far right hand one) is inaccessible. The reason for this is that tmux-navigator tests the value of 'pane_current_command' and compares it to 'vim' before deciding which keystrokes to dispatch. On the right hand tmux pane, the current command is 'ssh' and not 'vim'. What I want to do is test for (pane_current_command =~ 'ssh'), and if so, examine the command that is running on the far side of the connection? I cannot find a way to get hold of this, so any suggestions would be welcome? • Firefox: show bookmarks location in search result

  I've been a user of firefox for years. Like most, I collected a large number of bookmarks, and over time it now contins lots of folders and nested folders... When I add a new bookmark, I would like to place in specific folder as other related ones. The thing is when I use the search functionality in the Bookmarks Library, it does not say what folder each item is in. And I end up manually looking through all folders (very tedious!) Any suggestion on how to do more efficiently?
