  • Read -> change -> save. Thread safe.

    - by Pavel Alexeev
This code should automatically connect players when they enter a game. But the problem is when two users try to connect at the same time - in this case 2nd user can easily overwrite changes made by 1st user ('room_1' variable). How could I make it thread safe? def join(userId): users = memcache.get('room_1') users.append(userId) memcache.set('room_1', users) return users I'm using Google App Engine (python) and going to implement simple game-server for exchanging peers given by Adobe Stratus.

  • What to read as a good quick review and intro into development process methodologies?

    - by Ivan
Being mostly self-taught freestyle developer and having no experience of working in teams of professionals in serious software companies, having only a very general idea of how the software development is should really be done, I think I've came to a point, when I begin struggling from lack of order in my work. I think I should get acquainted with professional software development technologies to optimize my own productivity and to extend my choice of work by increasing capabilities to work in teams and bigger companies. What should I begin with? Of course I am googling on this subject right now, but maybe hou have some real experience based recommendations to share?

  • C++: Why does space always terminate a string when read?

    - by Nullw0rm
Using type std::string to accept a sentence, for practise (I haven't worked with strings in C++ much) I'm checking if a character is a vowel or not. I got this: for(i = 0; i <= analyse.length(); i++) { if(analyse[i] == 'a' || analyse[i] == 'e' [..etc..]) { ...vowels++; } else { ... ...consenents++; } This works fine if the string is all one word, but the second I add a space (IE: aeio aatest) it will only count the first block and count the space as a consenent, and quit reading the sentence (exiting the for loop or something). Does a space count as no character == null? Or some oddity with std::string?, It would be helpful to know why that is happening!

  • How do I read from a file consists of city names and coordinates/Populations and create functions to get the coordinates and population?

    - by Braybray
I'm using Python, and I have a file which has city names and information such as names, coordinates of the city and population of the city: Youngstown, OH[4110,8065]115436 Yankton, SD[4288,9739]12011 966 Yakima, WA[4660,12051]49826 1513 2410 Worcester, MA[4227,7180]161799 2964 1520 604 Wisconsin Dells, WI[4363,8977]2521 1149 1817 481 595 How can I create a function to take the city name and return a list containing the latitude and longitude of the given city? fin = open ("miles.dat","r") def getCoordinates cities = [] for line in fin: cities.append(line.rstrip()) for word in line: print line.split() That's what I tried now; how could I get the coordinates of the city by calling the names of the city and how can I return the word of each line but not letters? Any help will be much appreciated, thanks all.

  • How to optimize a postgreSQL server for a "write once, read many"-type infrastructure ?

    - by mhu
Greetings, I am working on a piece of software that logs entries (and related tagging) in a PostgreSQL database for storage and retrieval. We never update any data once it has been inserted; we might remove it when the entry gets too old, but this is done at most once a day. Stored entries can be retrieved by users. The insertion of new entries can happen rather fast and regularly, thus the database will commonly hold several millions elements. The tables used are pretty simple : one table for ids, raw content and insertion date; and one table storing tags and their values associated to an id. User search mostly concern tags values, so SELECTs usually consist of JOIN queries on ids on the two tables. To sum it up : 2 tables Lots of INSERT no UPDATE some DELETE, once a day at most some user-generated SELECT with JOIN huge data set What would an optimal server configuration (software and hardware, I assume for example that RAID10 could help) be for my PostgreSQL server, given these requirements ? By optimal, I mean one that allows SELECT queries taking a reasonably little amount of time. I can provide more information about the current setup (like tables, indexes ...) if needed.

  • How to read an xs:any response using CXF Generated Client?

    - by mfcabrera
Hi, When consuming a webserice with CXF 2.1.4 (the generated client) I am having problem getting the response based on the following XSD snippet in the WSDL. CXF Generates a List representing it, but when I execute the service, the response comes null. I used wireshark to what I was reciving and indeed the response XMl is coming as expected, but CXF just give me null object. Below the XSD of the response object. • What are the books about Open-Source that everyone interested in should read?

    - by Edu Zamora
Currently I am working and running my first Open-Source project and though I am quite happy how things are working so far, I have the feeling that a lot of things could be done better. So, what books about Open-Source would you recommend me in order to help filling this gap and making things better every day? What are the books that influenced you the most? I am especially interested in: - How to organize and run an Open-Source project - Best practices - Manage and involve users and developers - How to announce and do the releases - Legal issues

    I am using HTML Agility Pack to parse html content. I am using parsing to extract table information. It works. But if there is no ending "/tr" tag or "/td" tag then it does not parse that information perfectly.(in which there is no ending tr tag or td tag.) Like <TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR height=20><TD class=xl27boL noWrap width="7%">01890345&nbsp;</TD> <TD class=xl27boL noWrap width="4%">1416</TD> <TD class=xl27boL noWrap width="7%">kjlkjkls&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap width="4%">14:01:57&nbsp;</TD> <TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=left width="15%">Football</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">&nbsp;</TD> <TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">50&nbsp;</TD> <TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">4997.2500</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="7%">249862.50&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boRLnoWrap align=right width="8%">249612.64&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">4997.2500</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="7%">249862.50&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">249.86</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">4992.2528</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">&nbsp;</TD><TD class=xl27boL noWrap align=right width="5%">&nbsp;</TD> <TD class=xl27boRL noWrap align=right width="8%">249612.64&nbsp;</TD> </table> So for that what should I do ?

  • How to read expected child nodes of a given node from schema in PHP?

    - by MartyIX
I was wondering if there's an implementation of a XML schema reader that for an arbitrary node in XML schema provides list of nodes which are supposed to be present as child nodes of given node, restrictions on nodes and so on. I'm planning to program it for my purposes but I would like to know if it isn't solved somewhere. I really need only a small subset what I described above. Thanks for tips!

  • Is there a c++ library that provides functionality to execute an external program and read its outpu

    - by BD at Rivenhill
Basically, I'm looking for something that will allow me to replicate the following Perl code: my $fh = new FileHandle; $fh->open("foo |"); while (<$fh>) { # Do something with this line of data. } This is in the context of Linux, so a library that is specific to Windows will not help. I know how to write a program that does fork/exec/dup2 and all that basic shell-type jazz, but there are some fiddly details involving terminals that I don't feel like messing around with (and I don't have a copy of "Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment" or a similar reference handy), so I'm hoping that someone has already solved this problem.

  • How to increment the string value during run time without using dr.read() and store it in the oledb

    - by sameer
Here is my code, everything is working fine the only problem is with the ReadData() method in which i want the string value to be increment i.e AM0001,AM0002,AM0003 etc. This is happening but only one time the value is getting increment to AM0001, the second time the same value i.e AM0001 is getting return. Due to this i am getting a error from oledb because of AM0001 is a primary key field. enter code here: class Jewellery : Connectionstr { string lmcode = null; public string LM_code { get { return lmcode;} set { lmcode = ReadData();} } string mname; public string M_Name { get { return mname; } set { mname = value;} } string desc; public string Desc { get { return desc; } set { desc = value; } } public string ReadData() { string jid = string.Empty; string displayString = string.Empty; String query = "select max(LM_code)from Master_Accounts"; Datamanager.RunExecuteReader(Constr, query); if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(jid)) { jid = "AM0000";//This string value has to increment at every time, but it is getting increment only one time. } int len = jid.Length; string split = jid.Substring(2, len - 2); int num = Convert.ToInt32(split); num++; displayString = jid.Substring(0, 2) + num.ToString("0000"); return displayString; } public void add() { String query ="insert into Master_Accounts values ('" + LM_code + "','" + M_Name + "','" + Desc + "')"; Datamanager.RunExecuteNonQuery(Constr , query); } Any help will be appreciated.
