• How does jquery display an image received from an ajax request?

  I have this working great, but I'd like a deeper understanding of what is actually going on behind the scenes. I am using Jquery's Ajax method to pull 5 blog posts (returning only the title and first photo). A PHP script grabs the blog posts' title and first photo and sticks it in an array and sends it back to my browser as JSON. Upon receiving the JSON object, Jquery grabs the first member of the JSON object and displays it's title and photo. In a gallery I made, using buttons – the user can iterate the 1-5 posts. So the actual AJAX call happens right away, and only once. I am basically using this kind of setup: $('my_div').html(json_obj[i]) and each click does a i++. So jquery is plucking these blog posts from my computers memory, my web browsers cache, or some kind of cache in the Javascript engine? One of the things it's returning is a pretty gnarly animated gif. I just wonder if it constantly running in the background (but not visible), stealing processing cycles...etc. Or Javascript just inserting (say a flash movie) into the DOM, but before hand does nothing but take up a little memory (no processing). Anyway, I'm just curious. If someone is a guru on this, I'd love to hear your take. Thanks!!

  I have IIS6 compression setup, and static content is being compressed correctly as per Coding Horror. • Jquery Cycle Lite plugin unable to see images that have been loaded by an AJAX call

  Hi, I am having problems using the jquery cycle lite plugin on some images that are added via AJAX. However the prev/next buttons don't work. When I load the images via static HTML the slideshow prev/next links works fine. (I just copied and pasted the generated HTML.) I understand I need to use something like .bind or .live to make the Cycle plugin 'see' the new images. I have tried everything I can think of but I can't make it work. What am I doing wrong ?

(change dot color if there is something in buy action). • jquery-ui autocomplete with ASP MVC suggestions not displaying

  I have been trying to get a simple example of the jquery-ui autocomplete to work. I have a controller setup to handle the query, and it returns the json that looks to be in order, but I am getting no suggestions showing up. • fullcalendar events from REST-ful php server.

  I've written a very simple RESTful php server (my first experiment with REST, so feel free to make suggestions) to respond to the fullcalendar events callback. It produces exactly the same string output as the json-events.php file in the fullcalendar json example, but for some reason fullcalendar will not accept my server's output. I've tried messing with the headers because they're different from the ones produced by json-events.php, but I'm not really sure what's awry there, if anything. • Help with jQuery Validation plugin and a form that uses 'panels'

  I have a form that works in 'sections' that I will refer to as 'panels'. By default, the form is listed out on the page, one panel after the other. However, with JavaScript, it puts the panels into one panel viewer, and displays them one after the other (with prev/next buttons). Example Form Workflow Panel 1: User Details - Panel 2: User Location - Panel 3: User Info - Panel 4: Confirm Details I am using the jQuery Validation plugin. My problem is, I have set up all the rules for all the inputs in the first 3 panels, and I'd like to be able to only validate a subset of them per panel. Example, when pushing 'next panel' after completing name & email (in the 1st, user details panel), I'd like to do a validation only on that panel first, and then get a boolean response (if the 1st panel validated), and if true, then proceed to the next panel. I've played around with a bit of the config, but unfortunately could not get it to work as I wanted. This is my first project with this plugin so I'm quite new to it! Is there a way to add rules dynamically to the plugin? i.e. not on $('form').validate(options) ? What I'd like to do, is call the validate() on the form, with all the error messages, and then on the 'next panel' code, do a switch case to determine which rules to add, and then call a validate() myself.

• REST API - why use PUT DELETE POST GET?

  So -i was looking through some articles on creating REST API's. And some of them suggest using all types of HTTP requests: like PUT DELETE POST GET. So - we would create for example index.php and write API this way: $method = $_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD']; $request = split("/", substr(@$_SERVER['PATH_INFO'], 1)); switch ($method) { case 'PUT': ....some put action.... break; case 'POST': ....some post action.... break; case 'GET': ....some get action.... break; case 'DELETE': ....some delete action.... break; } Ok - granted - I don't know much baout web services (yet). But - wouldn't it be easier to just accept JSON object through normal $_POST and then respond in JSON as well. We can easily serialize/deserialize via php's json_encode and json_decode and do whatever we want with that data without having to deal with different HTTP request methods... Am I missing something? UPDATE 1: Ok - after digging through various API's and learning a lot about XML-RPC, JSON-RPC, SOAP, REST I came to a conclusion that this type of API is sound. Actually stack exchange is pretty much using this approach on their sites and I do think that these people know what they are doing Stack Exchange API.

• Webmethod on my C# (server side) doesn't return data to client side (javascript)

  I am using a c# Webmethod to return results to my client side written in Javascript. [WebMethod] public static string MyMethod(string Id) { SQL QUERIES and then .... // adding data to member class. Member member = new Member(Name, DOB, Sex, Member_Identification, Dates_of_services); return JsonConvert.SerializeObject(member); <-- member is a class of List strings } And on the client side you could invoke this method using the jQuery.ajax() function like this: $.ajax({ url: 'default.aspx/MyMethod', type: 'POST', contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8', data: JSON.stringify({ ID : ID }), success: on success { } }); function onSuccess(data) { // parses json returned data var jsondata = $.parseJSON(data.d); ..... } Now the data returned to the client side are Lists of Strings. This method works for me most times. However for one or two queries, the method runs forever without returning to the client side. On the server side however, I can use breakpoints and see that all the Lists of strings have been formed correctly. But I cannot seem to find out why they are never returned to the client side. My code reaches till the return statement on the server side and then the program just runs forever. It never reaches the function 'onsuccess' Can anyone tell me why this can happen? Anomalies in data maybe?

The data is in the following format: var countries = { "1A": { id: "1A", name: "Andorra" }, "2B": { id: 2B name: "Belgium" }, ..etc }; var jsonData = JSON.stringify({ data: data }); //then $ajax is called and it makes the call to the c# web service On the c# side the web service needs to unpack this data, currently it comes in as string[][] data type. How do I convert it to the format so I can refer to the properties such as .id and .name? Assuming I have a class called Sample with these properties? Thanks! • MVC JsonResult not working with chrome?

  i want jquery to take a JsonResult from my MVC controller but it does'nt receive any data! If I put the output into a textfile and enter its link its working so I think my jQuery is fine. Then I was testing with other browsers like chrome and I saw NOTHING. The requested page was just emtpy.. no errors. The input value from the form is successfully inserted into the database, but cannot make it appear in the view. Returning a JSON structure with my required data in the listener callback above 2). In my webapp.RequestHandler Handler class, trying to retrieve the JSON structure during the post method. I would very much like to pass this JSOn data back to the app without causing a page reload (which is what has happened when I've used various post/form.submit methods so far). Can anyone provide me with some psuedo code or an example on how I might achieve what I'm after? Thanks.

• auto_complete plugin error: Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name

  I have successfully set up this plugin before so I am curious as to what I am doing wrong here. I have built the ability for users to add tags to questions. I am not using tagging plugin here but that shouldn't matter for this. With respect to the auto complete, I am trying to have the form located in the /views/questions/show.html.erb file access the Tags table and display entries in the tags.tags_name column. When I begin to type in the field I get the following error message: Processing QuestionsController#show (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-31 15:22:20) [GET] Parameters: {"tag"=>{"tag_name"=>"a"}, "id"=>"auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name"} Question Load (0.1ms) SELECT * FROM "questions" WHERE ("questions"."id" = 0) ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name): app/controllers/application_controller.rb:15:in `init_data' For some reason I am actually passing the field name as the Question.id. The plugin set up is fairly simple as you add the following line to your controller: auto_complete_for :tag, :tag_name and the following line in your routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have added the controller line to both my tags and questions controller and also mapped resources for both tags and questions in my routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } map.resources :questions, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have played around with removing either or of the above but can't seem to fix it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

I know this is because my mask mask and topImg options have the same class - but how can I modify the plugin to allow for these items to have the same class? I know it's probably something really simple, but I'm still finding my way with jQuery and Javascript in general. Any other tips on improving my code would also be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Chris

  There are many topics related to my question and i have been through most of them, but i haven't got it right. On resize, the element sizes are recalculated. • Nagios returns "No output returned from plugin" running process

  I have a nagios server and a bunch of nagios clients that i currently monitor. All the clients are setup with the following nrpe configuration. check_users, check_load... metrics are successfully displayed on the nagios interface but check_nginx and check_server_proxy displayed as "Unknown"-(No output returned from plugin). As far as i understood nagios simply runs ps command and looks for either the argument strings or the name of the command to verify whether the service is running.   I'm using plugin which gives me warning or crtis with established connections. • The plugin of munin is always timed out

  I want to use munin to make a graph of ttyACM0 in Linux, but munin can not create the graph. I found some information in "munin-node.log". it shows that "Service 'temperature' timed out". So I changed timeout to 60 or 120 in /munin/plugin-conf.d/munin-node, but it does not work. It's also timed out.
