• Recover personal PGP key from old home

  Many lives ago, I created a GPG key to sign the Ubuntu Code of Conduct on Launchpad. I haven't really used it since. Some time later, I backed up my home and started fresh. That was all back in 2009. I still have the backup but now I'm starting to play around with Quickly and upload things to Launchpad, I could really do with having my PGP key back. I don't really know how the key is organised or where it's stored, but I'd like to recover my old key rather than generate a new one. Any idea where to start?

• Magento Bulk Product Import + Modules Nightmare

  Have 5,000 products in CSV file File has been re-saved as UT8 file in google documents and exported to CSV from excel File loads perfectly with all fields in demo of magento store manager (except we dont want to buy it:) When trying to upload in regular Magento..keep getting error messages on column duplicates....yes we have hundreds of duplicates as the titles of products in fields correspond with different sizes, etc...no way around it Any solutions around this or any open source software similar to store manager that can do the trick. Ready to give up and go to paid solution such as Big Commerce Also, Uploaded a bunch of free modules/keys...of open source bulk import products from magentocommerce but I cant find them anywhere in the main admin panel to use...there is no menu item for them anywhere??

• Website content copied - How can I prove that I wrote it?

  One of our competitors constantly copies all our website content. Now, I assume the trouble is to proof that we wrote the content first and that it is not the other way round. I checked on http://www.archive.org, but there is nothing. Any other way to proof that? FYI: We are a swiss company, so different laws will apply.   Background I just began working for a religious non-profit organization. As with most non-profits, the organization is resource-poor and has no IT department to speak of. In my two months here I've received 20 requests for websites, apps, and internal automation. Many of these 20 requests have merit and would benefit the organization. I'm a .net web developer and as such the open source community is relatively foreign to me... Question For the sake of this question, lets say I'm talking about building a single, large, website. Does software (web based, hopefully) exist that would allow me to post requirements and assets (graphics and CSS) for a site, and then invite programmers to participate in the sites development? As a simple example, I could post the requirements and data for the about us page and an individual would indicate that they could/would fulfill the requirement. Upon completion, they could upload the new source code to the shared repository (github).

• Moodle Inconsistencies, Flowplayer, or Server?

  We are trying to decide if an issue we're having with Moodle and our videos is a flowplayer issue, a video issue, or a network issue. Any input is welcome. We've had videos in our Moodle (version 1.9, we're working on an upgrade on a different server) up for weeks, or even months. After that time, some of them have suddenly just stopped working. When they don't work, they just don't load. The videos work when we first upload them. With flowplayer, we don't get errors, just a blank screen. We have re-uploaded our videos several times when this has happened, but we really would like to know what's causing it so that we can prevent it. There are also no keyframe issues with the video. We are currently trying to find answers through various searches, but have not had any luck. I will continue to post more info as I come across it...but if there's anyone who knows or has ideas, it's welcome.

  I will be using one of the dms (document management system) which is java + jackrabbit + postgresql + jboss + openoffice based on ubuntu server 10.04. this is the only application i will running on my server. i want to speed up the performance of the system for this. can you give me tips for improvements of ubuntu server? can i change any settings which give fast system performance. My application will be used concurrently by around 70 - 80 people. • Audio stopped working suddenly in 12.04

  My audio is no longer working in Xubuntu 12.04 after working fine for about a year. This happened right after visiting the following website and installing an audio browser application to upload voice samples for the creation of an open-source speech recognition program: http://www.voxforge.org/home/read I do not know if that is what caused the problem, but audio stopped working around the same time I installed this web application. When I type in the terminal pulseaudio -D I get the following: E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed. I tried the following next: sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio sudo apt-get install pulseaudio When I type 'pulseaudio' at the command prompt, I get: E: [pulseaudio] pid.c: Daemon already running. E: [pulseaudio] main.c: pa_pid_file_create() failed.

• Disqus Comment Form Missing from Posts

  I decided to transition from IntenseDebate to Disqus for the blog. So I uninstalled ID via their uninstall process (you upload the template to them, they remove code, you reupload your new template onto the site). Then I went to install Disqus into the site through their Blogger widget method. The problem is that there is no comment form present on any of the blog posts' pages. For example, when you click on the 'Comments' link it jumps to #disqus-thread but there is no thread there. So is there any fix that I can do in order to make the comment form appear? I checked Disqus' knowledgebase for Blogger installation but as far as I can tell my template should be compatible.

  I registered a domain with Namecheap.com, and started the Google Apps registration process. After the initial data filling, google apps wishes me to prove the ownership of a domain, and has given me 4 choices: Add a DNS record to your domain's configuration Link to your Google Analytics account Upload an HTML file to your server Add a meta tag to your site's home page What is the differences between these, and how do I (if someone knows perhaps how to do it on Namecheap, it would be even better) complete this step in the process? I would appreciate any advice you might have.

• Default file permissions for php user www-data

  I have a php installed on my ubuntu machine. The web root is /var/www I set the permissions for this folder like so: sudo chown -R ftpuser:www-data /var/www ftpuser is the user I set up so I can ftp to /var/www from another machine on the network. www-data is the user php uses. I double checked using whoami from php. Whenever I ftp upload a new file to the machine the group has no permissions to the file. So when I try to access it in my browser via machine-name/new-file.php I am told permission denied and I have to go and chmod the new file. I am wondering if there is a way I can default the www-data user/group to have access permissions to new files so I don't have to keep chmod every new file?

• Windows Phone 7 dev: C# or silverlight for a simple app?

  I'm about to hire a programmer to develop Windows Phone 7 apps. The current app that shall be developed is quite simple. The app will download content from a Web-API. There are two lists to select content. There is a single item content page. Users can rate the content and upload photos. The screens will be produced by our artist. I am pretty sure that most of the available programmers haven't touched WP7 development yet. Now the questions are: What technology is suitable for this kind of app? What technology requires less research, learning and production time? Do you already have experience of limitations of silverlight compared to C#? (I am also thinking of future projects) My guess is that silverlight programmers are more experienced in UI programming than C# coders. Do you feel the same way?

• Chrome and Catalyst - no tab text

  I just installed Ubuntu, updated, installed AMD proprietary drivers (for my Radeon HD6870) and noticed that some (most) of the tabs in Google Chrome don't have text, only the favicon. My first idea was that maybe 13.10 may have some issues with the new drivers so I switched to the normal driver instead of the beta one. It was not good. Okay then, I put back the open source drivers. It worked. Okay, it's strange. Let's install Ubuntu Gnome to see if it's Unity. No it was not. Let's install Ubuntu 13.04. Same behavoir. By this time I was desperate. I installed Fedora, the problem was there. Now I'm back to Ubuntu 13.10, but am out of ideas. Could anyone help me, please? P.s.: I can upload a screenshot, if needed.

• How to Estimate Needed Bandwidth for New Web Application?

  I am working on a brand new SaaS web application and need to estimate the initial bandwidth usage. Since the site doesn't exist yet, and since this is my first endeavor of this sort, I'm not really sure how much bandwidth to estimate to begin with. We will be using Linux, Apache, PHP and Mysql. The content will be generated dynamically. There will be images as part of the site design but user's will also upload images that will be displayed and documents that will be stored for download at later times. We'd like to be able to support 500,000 page loads per month with estimated image loads being about two to three times that.

• Uploading or attaching files that located on a shared drive doesn't work?

  I have this odd, quite minor, but annoying issue that I am quite perplexed about. Whenever I try to upload a file via my browser(let's say attach a file to an email in GMail), I click 'Browse' button and it opens standard file selection dialog, that doesn't show network drives. Further more if I try to drag a file from a network drive into GMail, it doesn't work either, it just doesn't let me do that. This issue has been around for quite sometime now, and I am just curious if this is something on my side or if it's a bug or a misconfiguration of some sort. FWIW, I am currently running 10.10, network drive is a samba share on NAS. This happens in FF and Chrome and this is only happens with Samba mounts. As a matter of fact, NFS volumes that are located on the same network operate perfectly fine.

• I see files in filezilla, but the internet denies their existance

  I am doing some updates to a 10-year old site, and I am baffled. Everything worked great locally, so I uploaded a bunch of stuff to the server using filezilla. Within filezilla I can see all of the files, but for some reason I get a 404 when trying to view them. It seems as though (at least for the folder Im currently checking) this is happening for items which are "farther down the list" alphabetically. I tried to re-upload a file individually but it didn't change anything. Is this an indication that I hit some sort of limit with the hosting company? And if so why can I still view the files from filezilla? Please offer guidance. I am at a loss.

  I currently have a domain+hosting with unlimited hosting space for our website. On the other hand, I use Dropbox to share our organizational files and photos between about 10 users. The thing is that sharing photos uses too much space for what a free Dropbox account offers. So I am thinking of taking advantage of my hosting space, but using FTP seems not to be ideal for users who are not too skilled with computers. In addition, it doesn't handle versions in case some user makes a mess of it. And using a public FTP to upload and giving them only download permission doesn't seem a good idea as I am only the CTO. So what I want is basically to implement a local Dropbox for a few users, but I'd prefer something that is not too complex to install/mantain. Thank you a lot.

• XNA Diffuse Shader Issue. Edge lighting problem. Image Attached

  As you can see in this image the diffuse shading is working correctly in some places but in other places such as the the bottom of the sphere you can see the squares/triangles of the mesh. Any idea what would be causing this? Let me know if you need anymore information related to code. I can upload my normals calculations and shader effect if required. • Suggestions about php editors and file sync programs

  I'm working with ubuntu and lately I decided to learn php. I have everything setup and I'm currently using aptana 3 as my php editor and for file sync. It seems like the process for file sync is too much, it has to check all files just to upload 1 file. So if someone can tell me how to update a file at once without delay, that's welcomed.
