• Detect months with 31 days

- by daddycardona
Is there an analogous form of the following code: if(month == 4,6,9,11) { do something; } Or must it be: if(month == 4 || month == 6 etc...) { do something; } I am trying to write an if statement that checks if this month has more than 31 days.

• Are there any data-binding solution that works in C++ and GWT and supports structures polymorphism?

- by user116854
I expect it should share a common description, like XmlSchema or IDL and should generate classes for target language. I found Thrift and it's really nice solution, but it doesn't support structures polymorphism. I would like to have collections of base class objects, where I could place instances of subclasses, serialize this and deserialize at the opposite side. Some mechanism of polymorphic behavior support, like Visitor, would be a perfect. Does anybody know something suitable for these requirements?

• Efficient implementation of exclusive execution

- by n0weak
I have an ObjectManager class that is used to process payments. It is wrapped over the Order entities, so new instance has to be created when processing is required. I need to prevent the situation when several ObjectManager instances are dealing with the same order simultaneously (it happend once because of some errors on the remote payment processing center, somehow they called our callback urls twice). I'd love to get an advice how to implement it more efficiently. For now, I am thinking about something like that: public class OrderManager{ private static final CopyOnWriteArrayList<Integer> LOCKER = new CopyOnWriteArrayList<Integer>(); private static synchronized boolean tryLock(Integer key) { return LOCKER.addIfAbsent(key); } private static void releaseLock(Integer key) { LOCKER.remove(key); } public void processPayment(Integer orderId) throws Exception{ if (!tryLock(orderId)) { return; } try { //operate } finally { releaseLock(orderId); } } //remainder omitted }

• What is the correct way to set size of elements of GUI?

- by Roman
I am using swing to create my GUI. J have a JFrame containing one main JPanel which, in its turn contain several JPanels which, in their turn, contain buttons. I would like to set certain sizes to mu buttons and JPanels. How does it work? Should I set sizes of my buttons and then the size of the JPanel and the JFrame will be set according to the buttons sizes? Or it works in the opposite direction? I set size for the JPanel and the size of the buttons will be set automatically?

• ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException double array size

- by Andy
I'm going to preface this question with this statement: I know that I can easily handle this problem by reading the amount of lines in a file and making an array that size. I am not allowed to do this. Anyway, here is my question. I need to double my array's size whenever my program encounters an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException and then copy all the previous read in information into the larger array. Here is my code public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { Scanner inScan, fScan = null; int [] A = new int[5]; inScan = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.print("Please enter the file to read from: "); while(true) { try{ String fName = inScan.nextLine(); fScan = new Scanner(new File(fName)); break; } catch (FileNotFoundException ex) { System.out.println("Your file is invalid -- please re-enter"); } } String nextItem; int nextInt = 0; int i = 0; while (fScan.hasNextLine()) { try { nextItem = fScan.nextLine(); nextInt = Integer.parseInt(nextItem); A[i] = nextInt; i++; } catch (NumberFormatException e) { System.out.println("Found an invalid int -- ignored"); } catch (ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException e) { //double the size of array A until //copy all previous read in information to the larger array } } System.out.println("Here are your " + i + " items:"); for (int j = 0; j < i; j++) { System.out.println(A[j] + " "); } } }

• Traversing ORM relationships returns duplicate results

- by NKing253
I have 4 tables -- store, catalog_galleries, catalog_images, and catalog_financials. When I traverse the relationship from store --> catalog_galleries --> catalog_images in other words: store.getCatalogGallery().getCatalogImages() I get duplicate records. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? Any suggestions on where to look? The store table has a OneToOne relationship with catalog_galleries which in turn has a OneToMany relationship with catalog_images and an eager fetch type. The store table also has a OneToMany relationship with catalog_financials.

• Can I un-assign (clear) all fields of an instance?

- by Roman
Is there a simple way to clear all fields of an instance from a an instance? I mean, I would like to remove all values assigned to the fields of an instance. ADDED From the main thread I start a window and another thread which controls state of the window (the last thread, for example, display certain panels for a certain period of time). I have a class which contains state of the window (on which stage the user is, which buttons he already clicked). In the end, user may want to start the whole process from the beginning (it is a game). So, I decided. So, if everything is executed from the beginning, I would like to have all parameter to be clean (fresh, unassigned). ADDED The main thread, creates the new object which is executed in a new thread (and the old thread is finished). So, I cannot create a new object from the old thread. I just have a loop in the second thread.

• OverRiding Help

- by user445714
Few questions on over riding. I am interiting a method openRead from another class, the method is to be overridden so that the scanner class uses the provided delimiter pattern, which is referenced. I need to make use of the scanner class useDelmiter method method from another class
public boolean openRead() throws FileNotFoundException { sc = new Scanner(new File(fileName)); if (fileName != null) { return true; } else { return false; } }
delimiter
protected final String DELIMITERS = "[\s[^'a-zA-Z]]";
I'm at a loss to how i over ride this using the constant delimiter.

• Why would you use a MyObject[] internally, but expose a List<MyObject>?

- by timmyd
I have come across a class that has an immutable property: MyObject[] allObjs The property is initialized like this: List<MyObject> objs = createAllMyObjects(); allObjs = objs.toArray(new MyObject[objs.size()]); When it is exposed through the accessor, it's done as a List: public List<MyObject> getAllMyObjects() { return Collections.unmodifiableList(Arrays.asList(allObjs)); } Why would a programmer do this? Is there a benefit that I don't know about? Performance is not a concern, as the array of objs will only ever number in a few dozen elements. It seems that we are going round and round in circles. The class is a sort of factory, so it's got a private constructor and exposes only static methods (not sure if this could be a reason for the madness).

• Why is this condition never satisfied ?

- by Patrick
I don't know why this condition is never satisfied: I'm comparing two ArrayList values, and it is always false. if ( (Integer) results.get(rank) == (Integer) experts.get(j)) I'm debugging and I have exactly the same 2 values: 3043 and 3043 However it doesn't work. thanks

• regarding object recycling

- by ajaycv
I have a question. What is wrong with regards to the below code: ArrayList tempList2 = new ArrayList(); tempList2 = getXYZ(tempList1, tempList2); //method getXYZ getXYZ(ArrayList tempList1, ArrayList tempList2) { //does some logic and adds objects into tempList2 return tempList2; } The code will get executed but it seems by passing tempList2 to the getXYZ method argument, it is doing object recycling. My question is, Is recycling the tempList2 arraylist object correct?
