• WPF and Prism View Overlay

  Hi, I need some help with overlaying views using the prism framework.Its a little more complexed than that so let me explain.I could be over-thinking this as well :D i have shell (wpf window) and i have 2 views(A & B - both usercontrols) in a module. when the shell loads it loads view A. On view A i have a button to "popup" view B for some user input. so naturally i would think to some sort of modal window/control, maybe even a popup. however the problem i face with the popup is that when i move the shell the popup remains fixed and it doesnt block events in view A. I've tried disabling view A to stop events being fired and i've also tried to use a to get the view B move with the shell. Only the canvas works but i now need a way to block it tho'. Is there anyway i can overlay a view on top of another view with prism? or how does everyone else create modal popups with prism & wpf? any advise or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

• Doing large updates against indexed view

  We have an indexed view that runs across three large tables. Two of these tables (A & B) are constantly getting updated with user transactions and the other table (C) contains data product info that is needs to be updated once a week. This product table contains over 6 million records. We need this view across these three tables for our core business process and unfortunately we cannot change this aspect. We even had a sql server MVP come in to help test under load to make sure we have the most efficient configuration. There is one column in the product table that gets utilized in the view and has to be updated each week. The problem we are now encountering is that as volume is increasing on our transactions against tables A & B, the update to Table C is causing deadlocks. I have tried several different methods to no avail: 1) I was hoping that we could change the view so that table C could be a dirty read "WITH (NOLOCK)" but apparently that functionality is not available with indexes views. 2) I thought about updating a new column in Table C and then just renaming it when the process is done but you cannot do that due to the dependency in the view. 3) I also entertained the idea of writing this value to a temporary product table, and then running an ALTER statement against the view to have it point to my new table. however when i did that the indexes on my view were dropped and it took quite a bit of time to recreate them. 4) we tried to do the weekly update in small chunks (as small as 100 records at a time) but we still run into dead locks. questions: a) we are using sql server 2005. Does sql server 2008 have a new functionality with their indexed views that would help us? Is there now a way to do dirty reads w/ an indexed view? b) a better approach to altering an existing view to point to a new table? thanks!

For instance, to check if a date child record value is between a range date on two parent rows columns. Child table PARENT_ID DATE ---------- ---------- 1 01/02/2009 1 01/12/2009 <--- HAVE TO FAIL! ... I see two approaches: Create materialized views on-commit as shown in this article (or other equivalent on other RDBMS). Use stored-procedures and triggers. Any other approach? Which is the best option? UPDATE: The motivation of this question is not about "putting the constraints on database or on application". I think this is a tired question and anyone does the way she loves. And, I'm sorry for detractors, I'm developing with constraints on database. From here, the question is "which is the best option to manage inter-table constraints on database?". I'm added "inside database" on the question title. UPDATE 2: Some one added the "oracle" tag. Of course materialized views are oracle-tools but I'm interested on any option regardless it's on oracle or others RDBMSs.

• rails i18n - translating text with inside.

  Hi there! I'd like to i18n a text that looks like this: Already signed up? Log in! Note that there is a link on the text. On this example it points to google - in reality it will point to my app's log_in_path. I've found two ways of doing this, but none of them looks "right". The first way I know involves having this my en.yml: log_in_message: "Already signed up? <a href='{{url}}'>Log in!</a>" And in my view: <p> <%= t('log_in_message', :url => login_path) %> </p> This works, but having the <a href=...</a> part on the en.yml doesn't look very clean to me. The other option I know is using localized views - login.en.html.erb, and login.es.html.erb. This also doesn't feel right since the only different line would be the aforementioned one; the rest of the view (~30 lines) would be repeated for all views. It would not be very DRY. I guess I could use "localized partials" but that seems too cumberstone; I think I prefer the first option to having so many tiny view files. So my question is: is there a "proper" way to implement this?

• Render action return View(); form problem

  I'm new to MVC, so please bear with me. :-) I've got a strongly typed "Story" View. This View (story) can have Comments. I've created two Views (not partials) for my Comments controller "ListStoryComments" and "CreateStoryComment", which do what their names imply. These Views are included in the Story View using RenderAction, e.g.: <!-- List comments --> <h2>All Comments</h2> <% Html.RenderAction("ListStoryComments", "Comments", new { id = Model.Story.Id }); %> <!-- Create new comment --> <% Html.RenderAction("CreateStoryComment", "Comments", new { id = Model.Story.Id }); %> (I pass in the Story id in order to list related comments). All works as I hoped, except, when I post a new comment using the form, it returns the current (parent) View, but the Comments form field is still showing the last content I typed in and the ListStoryComments View isn’t updated to show the new story. Basically, the page is being loaded from cache, as if I had pressed the browser’s back button. If I press f5 it will try to repost the form. If I reload the page manually (reenter the URL in the browser's address bar), and then press f5, I will see my new content and the empty form field, which is my desired result. • Django: Named URLs / Same Template, Different Named URL

  I have a webapp that lists all of my artists, albums and songs when the appropriate link is clicked. I make extensive use of generic views (object_list/detail) and named urls but I am coming across an annoyance. I have three templates that pretty much output the exact same html that look just like this: {% extends "base.html" %} {% block content %} <div id="content"> <ul id="starts-with"> {% for starts_with in starts_with_list %} <li><a href="{% url song_list_x starts_with %}">{{ starts_with|upper }}</a></li> {% endfor %} </ul> <ul> {% for song in songs_list %} <li>{{ song.title }}</li> {% endfor %} </ul> </div> {% endblock content %} My artist and album template look pretty much the same and I'd like to combine the three template's into one. The fact that my variables start with song can easily be changed to the default obj. It's my <ul id="starts-with"> named url I don't know how to correct. Obviously I want it to link to a specific album/artist/song using the named urls in my urls.py but I don't know how to make it context aware. • Rails 2.3.2 trying to render ERB instead of HAML

  Rails is suddenly trying to render ERB instead of Haml and I can't figure out why. I've created new rails projects, reinstalled Haml, and reinstalled Rails. Here's exactly the steps I take when making my application (Rails 2.3.2): rails> rails test rails> cd test rails\test> haml --rails . rails\test> ruby script\generate model user email:string password:string rails\test> ruby script\generate controller users index rails\test> rake db:migrate Here's what the UsersController looks like: class UsersController < ApplicationController def index @users = User.all end end My routes: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :users end I now create views\users\index.html.haml: %table %th(style="text-align: left;") %h1 Users - for user in @users %tr %td= user.email %td= user.password Annnd run the server... I navigate to localhost:3000\users and I get this error message: Template is missing Missing template users/index.erb in view path app/views For some reason Rails is trying to find and render .erb files instead of .haml files. vendor\plugins\haml\init.rb exists, untouched. I've reinstalled Haml (Pretty Penny) multiple times and still get the same results. I've also tried adding config.gem 'haml' to my environment.rb but this also doesn't work. I can't figure out why suddenly rails will not render haml for me.

• kohana project structure

  Hello Guys. I'm investigating using Kohana for my next project. The site will consist of user registration (and hence user profiles) where users will have certain privileges. The site will also have an admin section where administrators can go to say block a user or delete a post or look at usage statistics for example. A good comparison site would be a multi-user blog, where each blogger depending on her/his permissions can post/edit/delete blogs...just as an example. Firstly, I'm not sure about how to set up the controller/view structure in order to separate the admin section from the front facing site. I'm using Kohana 3, so I was thinking of a controller structure like so: application/classes/controller/front (front facing)...and application/classes/controller/admin (for administrative section). Or I notice you may be able to use the Route class to set up routes, so I could set up an "admin" route. for example: www.example.com/admin will lead to the admin logon screen. www.example.com --- front controller. As well, can I somehow separate the "Admin" views and controllers from the "front facing" views and controllers like divide them up based on folder structure? Any help is very much appreciated. • SerializationException with custom GenericIdentiy?

  I'm trying to implement my own GenericIdentity implementation but keep receiving the following error when it attempts to load the views (I'm using asp.net MVC): System.Runtime.Serialization.SerializationException was unhandled by user code Message="Type is not resolved for member 'OpenIDExtendedIdentity,Training.Web, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'." Source="WebDev.WebHost" I've ended up with the following class: [Serializable] public class OpenIDExtendedIdentity : GenericIdentity { private string _nickName; private int _userId; public OpenIDExtendedIdentity(String name, string nickName, int userId) : base(name, "OpenID") { _nickName = nickName; _userId = userId; } public string NickName { get { return _nickName; } } public int UserID { get { return _userId; } } } In my Global.asax I read a cookie's serialized value into a memory stream and then use that to create my OpenIDExtendedIdentity object. I ended up with this attempt at a solution after countless tries of various sorts. It works correctly up until the point where it attempts to render the views. What I'm essentially attempting to achieve is the ability to do the following (While using the default Role manager from asp.net): User.Identity.UserID User.Identity.NickName ... etc. I've listed some of the sources I've read in my attempt to get this resolved. • UIView animation only animating some of the things I ask it to

  I have a series of (say) boxes on the screen in a row, all subviews of my main view. Each is a UIView. I want to shift them all left and have a new view also enter the screen from the right in lockstep. Here's what I'm doing: // First add a dummy view offscreen UIView * stagingView = /* make this view, which sets up its width/height */ CGRect frame = [stagingView frame]; frame.origin.x = /* just off the right side of the screen */; [stagingView setFrame:frame]; [self stagingView]; And then I set up animations in one block for all of my subviews (which includes the one I just added): [UIView beginAnimations:@"shiftLeft" context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(_animationDidStop:context:)]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; for (UIView * view in [self subviews]) { CGRect frame = [view frame]; frame.origin.x -= (frame.size.width + viewPadding); [view setFrame:frame]; } [UIView commitAnimations]; Here's what I expect: The (three) views already on screen get shifted left and the newly staged view marches in from the right at the same time. Here's what happens: The newly staged view animates in exactly as expected, and the views already on the screen do not appear to move at all! (Or possibly they jump without animation to their end locations). And! If I comment out the whole business of creating the new subview offscreen... the ones onscreen do animate correctly! Huh? • Optimize GROUP BY&ORDER BY query

  I have a web page where users upload&watch videos. Last week I asked what is the best way to track video views so that I could display the most viewed videos this week (videos from all dates). Now I need some help optimizing a query with which I get the videos from the database. The relevant tables are this: video (~239371 rows) VID(int), UID(int), title(varchar), status(enum), type(varchar), is_duplicate(enum), is_adult(enum), channel_id(tinyint) signup (~115440 rows) UID(int), username(varchar) videos_views (~359202 rows after 6 days of collecting data, so this table will grow rapidly) videos_id(int), views_date(date), num_of_views(int) The table video holds the videos, signup hodls users and videos_views holds data about video views (each video can have one row per day in that table). I have this query that does the trick, but takes ~10s to execute, and I imagine this will only get worse over time as the videos_views table grows in size. • Display object in just a certain viewport

  Hi I got 4 viewports and one large that I can switch between now I got an object namely the camera and the cameras target position that I show with rendering a sphere at those locations. • Loading UITableView form UIView

  Hi Guys, I am working on navigation based application in which i can navigate to many views starting from default UITableView which is starting view in application template. I have added another UIView and added tableView control on that UIView. I am calling that view form one of the many views on a button click. Its showing the view but not populating the data in the table. And I also want to handle the event when user taps on the cell of the table of that view. • Is there an event that raises after a View/PartialView executes in ASP.NET MVC 2 RC2?

  I have the following problem: We have an ASP.NET MVC 2 RC 2 application that programmatically impersonates an AD Account that the user specifies at logon. This account is used to access the DB. At first we had the impersonating code in the begin_request and we were undoing the impersonation at the end_request, but when we tried to use IIS 7.5 in integrated mode, we learned that it's not possible to impersonate in the Global.asax so we tried different things. We have succesfully moved our code from the BeginRequest to the ActionExecuting event and the EndRequest to the ResultExecuted, and now, about 80% of our code works. We've just discovered that since we're passing the Entity Framework objects as models for our views, there's this remaining 20% that won't work because some Navigation Properties are not loaded when the view begins it's execution, so we're getting connection exceptions from Sql Server. Is there any event or method that executes AFTER the view, so we can undo the impersonation in it? We thought ResultExecuted will do just that, but it doesn't. We've been told that passing the plain Entities into the view as models is not a good idea, but we have A LOT of views that may have this problem and there's not automated way to know it. If some of you could explain why it's not a good idea, maybe we can convince the team to fix it!

• Using Zend Framework and Doctrine with independend modular structures

  I've seen a lot of articles about integrating ZF and Doctrine. There is also a proposal for ZF here but they have always two possible structures. Either they put all models into one top level model directory or they put it into a module related model directory. application |-- Bootstrap.php |-- configs |-- controllers |-- models - EITHER HERE |-- modules | -- examplemodule | |-- controllers | |-- models - OR HERE | |-- views |-- views For our projects I see problems for either of the two options: 1. One directory: application/models - in a complex system after a short time there will be hundreds of files, over all when you have the table classes two (e.g. User.php and UserTable.php). 2. Module based model directories: application/modules/examplemodule/models - in many cases we use models in multiple modules at the same time. So the "User" is required e.g. in the modules "game", "administration", ... Is there a way to use some kind of sub directories under the top level directory "models" to get some grouping. It should be completely independent of the module structure. application |-- Bootstrap.php ... |-- models | -- user | |-- User.php | |-- Friend.php | |-- other user related models | -- game | |-- Game.php | |-- Score.php | |-- ... ... • Multiple forms on a single page

  I've got an app that's in invite-only beta right now. Problem is, I can't get the invite system to work. :( On my root page there's a login form (which works just fine), and I'm trying to add a "request invite" form on the same page. I started doing it by putting the form for InviteRequest (ActiveRecord) inside a partial, in the "views" folder for "InviteRequest". • UpdateAllViews() from within a worker thread?

  I have a worker thread in a class that is owned by a ChildView. (I intend to move this to the Doc eventually.) When the worker thread completes a task I want all the views to be updated. How can I make a call to tell the Doc to issue an UpdateAllViews()? Or is there a better approach? Thank you. Added by OP: I am looking for a simple solution. The App is running on a single user, single CPU computer and does not need network (or Internet) access. There is nothing to cause a deadlock. I think I would like to have the worker thread post (or send) a message to cause the views to update. Everything I read about threading seems way more complicated than what I need - and, yes, I understand that all those precautions are necessary for applications that are running in multiprocessor, multiuser, client-server systems, etc. But none of those apply in my situation. I am just stuck at getting the right combination of getting the window handle, posting the message and responding to the message in the right functions and classes to compile and function at all.

• A view "transparent" to touches in some areas

  I have this transparent view that covers the whole screen. I using this view to group objects because I need to run them together around a specific anchor point. Lets call this view transparentView. At some point, transparentView contains two subviews. Two vertical bars full of icons, one on the left and one on the right of the screen. I need these bars and their icons to respond to touches, so I have to set transparentView setUserInteraction to YES. The area between the two vertical bars are totally transparent. transparentView is on top of other views and I need these other views to respond to taps but, the transparent area of transparentView are intercepting the taps and not letting them go thru to the view below. This transparent view is a UIImageView based class. • Resize view on iPhone when rotating

  I have an application with many views. I want only a couple of the views to be able to rotate to landscape when the device is rotated. I found out that I couldn't use (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation because that would rotate every view in my app. I found a solution to this problem here on Stack Overflow but now I have another issue to deal with. The view rotates when I turn the device but it still shows the view as if it were still in portrait mode (straight up and down). The top and bottom of the view is cut off. Is there a way to have the view rotate and also adjust its size to fit the new orientation? I also found this but wasn't able to get it to work. • Devise routes /:param not working

  Using devise 2.1.0 I am trying to send the new registration page a PricingPlan model. So in my routes I have: devise_scope :user do delete "/logout" => "devise/sessions#destroy" get "/login" => "devise/sessions#new" get "/signup/:plan" => "devise/registrations#new" end And I override the devise registration controller. With this in my routes.rb to make it work: devise_for :users, :controllers => {:registrations => "registrations"} In my actual Registration controller which overrides Devise's controller I have: class RegistrationsController < Devise::RegistrationsController view_paths = "app/views/devise" def new super @plan = PricingPlan.find_by_name(params[:plan]) end So that the default views still go to devise.... In my new view for the registration controller I call this: <h3>You've chosen the <%= @plan.name %> plan.</h3> And I get this error: undefined method `name' for nil:NilClass Also... in my PricingPlan model: class PricingPlan < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users And in my User model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :pricing_plan I'm rather new at rails.

  I have created a simple blog application with Ruby on Rails. The applications consists of two tables, posts and comments. Comments belongs_to :post and posts has_many :comments. I created posts table with the following columns: title:string, body:text. I created the comments table with the following columns: body:text post_id:integer name:string email:string In the /views/comments/index.html.erb display I would like to show a listing of all comments w/ the post title as well. Currently, the index view only displays post_id, body, name, email. How do I replace the post_id column with the corresponding post title?   I've uploaded a .cshtml website to a surftown server, and I got some problems running the code. But I have a problem with it running the Razor code. • Automated Oracle Schema Migration Tool

  What are some tools (commercial or OSS) that provide a GUI-based mechanism for creating schema upgrade scripts? To be clear, here are the tool responsibilities: Obtain connection to recent schema version (called "source"). Obtain connection to previous schema version (called "target"). Compare all schema objects between source and target. Create a script to make the target schema equivalent to the source schema ("upgrade script"). Create a rollback script to revert the source schema, used if the upgrade script fails (at any point). Create individual files for schema objects. The software must: Use ALTER TABLE instead of DROP and CREATE for renamed columns. Work with Oracle 10g or greater. Create scripts that can be batch executed (via command-line). Trivial installation process. (Bonus) Create scripts that can be executed with SQL*Plus. Here are some examples (from StackOverflow, ServerFault, and Google searches): Change Manager Oracle SQL Developer Software that does not meet the criteria, or cannot be evaluated, includes: TOAD PL/SQL Developer - Invalid SQL*Plus statements. Does not produce ALTER statements. SQL Fairy - No installer. Complex installation process. Poorly documented. DBDiff - Crippled data set evaluation, poor customer support. OrbitDB - Crippled data set evaluation. SchemaCrawler - No easily identifiable download version for Oracle databases. SQL Compare - SQL Server, not Oracle. LiquiBase - Requires changing the development process. No installer. Manually edit config files. Does not recognize its own baseUrl parameter. The only acceptable crippling of the evaluation version is by time. Crippling by restricting the number of tables and views hides possible bugs that are only visible in the software during the attempt to migrate hundreds of tables and views.
