    The answer to this must be somewhere but I'm not finding it -- can anyone help me understand why in Gedit, if I have a page of code there is no extra trailing blank line, but then when I do a file comparison for my svn commit it shows an extra line being added at the end of the file? I have a feeling that Gedit is automatically adding an ending line break. But why, I have no idea...

  • Help me understand why page sizes are a power of 2?

    Answer I need help with is: Recall that paging is implemented by breaking up an address into a page and offset number. It is most efficient to break the address into X page bits and Y offset bits, rather than perform arithmetic on the address to calculate the page number and offset. Because each bit position represents a power of 2, splitting an address between bits results in a page size that is a power of 2. i don't quite understand this answer, can anyone give a simpler explanation?

  • Works on debug but not release

    I have a thread that sets a value to true when it is done. Until then I wait: while(1) { if(done[0] == true) { break; } } This code works just fine in Debug but in Release it stays in the loop forever even though the debugger clearly says that it is true and not false. Why would this not work? Thanks

    One of my users had a single error while opening a file (I'm using standard xml 1.0): The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.w3.org' I found a post here in StackOverflow that deals with this and it suggest setting the XmlResolver property to null. I've tried this, and all my documents still seem to load fine. However, the last thing I want is to break the file-reading mechanism of my app, so is it actually safe to disable the resolver?

    Hi, I have a url like http://www.example.com/blah/th.html I need a javascript function to give me the 'th' value from that. All my urls have the same format (2 letter filenames, with .html extension). I want it to be a safe function, so if someone passes in an empty url it doesn't break. I know how to check for length, but I should be checking for null to right?

    I imagine I should use Regex for that but I still scratch my head a lot about it (and the only similar question I found wasn't exactly my case) so I decided to ask for help. This is the input and expected output: Input: "c-0.68219,-0.0478 -1.01455-0.0441 0.2321e-4,0.43212" Output:"c -0.68219,-0.0478 -1.01455 -0.0441 0.2321e-4,0.43212" Basically I need either commas or spaces as value separators, but I can't break the exponential index (e-4). Maybe do two successive replacements?

I am programming a program to search the name from the list and I need to find them if the keyword is not in front of the names (that's what I mean non-prefix) e.g. if I my list is the music instruments and I type "guit" to the search textbox.   • Trying to get around this Webservice call from Android using AsycTask

    I am a fairly beginner in Android Development. I am developing an application that extensively relays on Webservice calls. First screen takes username and password and validates the user by calling the Webservice. If U/P is valid, then I need to fire up the 2nd activity. In that 2nd activity, I need to do 3 calls. But I haven't gotten to the 2nd part yet. In fact, I haven't completed the full coding yet. But I wanted to test if the app is working as far as I've come through. When calling webserivce, I am showing alert dialog. But the app is crashing somewhere. The LoginActivity shows up. When I enter U/P and press Login Button, it crashes.   • Is learning ed worth it to boost my speed in VIM?

I often find that I slip back to my old ways and start using the mouse, holding down keys to get somewhere, and doing other stupid things that could be spead up. Would it be worth spending time to learn ed to break the habits learned from years in Windoze? Does using ed cultivate the right type of thinking that will transfer to VIM???
