• Looking for feedback on design pattern for simple 2D environment

  I'm working in iOS. I am trying to make a very simple 2D environment where there are some basic shapes you can drag around with your finger. These shapes should interact in various ways when dropped on each other, or when single-tapped versus double-tapped, etc. I don't know the name for the design pattern I'm thinking of. Basically, you have a bunch of arrays named after attributes, such as "double-tappable" or "draggable" or "stackable". You assign these attributes to the shapes by putting the shapes in the arrays. So, if there's a double-tap event, the code gets the location of it, then iterates through the "double-tappable" array to see if any of its members are in that location. And so on: every interactive event causes a scan through the appropriate array or arrays. It seems like that should work, but I'm wondering if there's a better pattern for the purpose.

• Four monitor setup with two Nvidia graphics cards

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have two nVidia quadro 2000 video cards, each with two monitors plugged in (all 4 monitors are identical). Now I have the latest nVidia drivers, and I'm trying to use the nVidia control panel to use all four monitors, and I can't get it to work. Currently, my configuration is using TwinView to have 2 monitors per X screen. This doesn't work well because either i turn xinerama on, and nothing appears on the screen when I start a X session with Compiz enabled. Things only work in Ubuntu 2D. i turn xinerama off, and compiz works, but now, I cant drag windows between the two screens and i have no idea how to start applications in the other screen. Is there a better way to configure my four monitor setup? Is there a way to get both GPUs onto a single X screen?

• There was an error getting information about "/" while copying to desktop

  Currently running Ubuntu 13.10 after a fresh install/re install due to this problem. The error occurs whenever I try to drag a file from the Ubuntu search( in the launcher ), to the desktop. the whole error message is as follows... "Error while copying. There was an error getting information about “/”." Show more details reveals the following... "The specified location is not supported" I don't understand the problem and can't see any clear way of fixing it. Any and all advice would be appreciated. :)

• How to Unlock Applications folder

  This question relates to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I wish to move a folder from the desktop into the applications folder at home/usr/share/applications. When I attempt to drag the folder from the desktop to the applications folder, I get the following message: "Error moving file: Permission denied" Permission or no permission, I want to move a folder from the desktop to the above said applications folder. How do I authenticate so I can make this move? There is no opportunity to authenticate when I get the error message, only "Skip" or "Cancel". I don't want to skip or cancel, I want to authenticate and move the folder. How do I do this? Thank you!

  Torrent from the Pirate Bay even though I have Tixati installed and working? Asks for an application which I don't have (apturl or something similar?) Trying to get the latest AMD Radeon drivers automatically installed? the main file downloads...but just shows up in a window full of files but idk where to drag them. And PlayOnLinux my one hope for gaming since Steam is buggin out without proper drivers? Can't figure out where to "mount" the DVD version it asks for. I'm so lost. I dove head first into the Linux thing thinking it was wildly superior, and maybe it is, but dang if the simplest things aren't hard to do. Any help appreciated. I've been reading guides and manuals but what I need is human experience most of all.

• Touchpad & TrackPoint (ThinkPad L520) suddenly unresponsive

  My mother has a problem with her ThinkPad L520 notebook (Ubuntu 11.10, Unity). She boots the device, everything works fine at first. But then, out of nowhere, her touchpad + trackpoint stop working. She can't click or drag the mouse. If she connects an external mouse, she can move the pointer and click (but the internal touchpad or trackpoint still don't work). She already updated everything through the update manager, but still no success...like I said, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There are no 'special' mouse drivers installed. What can I do to fix this? Thank you for your help! :)

• How to properly code in Unity? [on hold]

  I'm fairly new to Unity (yet I touched it and made a few proto with it) and I'd like to know how I'm supposed to work with it. I'm student in programming so I'm used to C/C++ with SDL/SFML, writing code and only using Input/Graphics/Network libs. I followed a few Unity guides and it was way more around drag & drop on scenes and a bit of scripting to activate it all, which disturbed me. So I fond a way to only use one GameObject and use a Singleton to launch code and display stuff (for 2d games at least). At the end of the day I make games not using "Instantiate" or such at all. Is it the right way ? Am I supposed to do this ? How much are your scenes populated (in a professional environment) ? When should I stop coding and start using the editor ?

• Are areas a good organizational feature, or just extra work?

  Do Areas in ASP.NET MVC end up being a help or just a drag in the end (because of the URL construction)? Would it be better to have subdirectories inside the main Controllers folder? or are there any other options to organizing a project? EDIT For example, this is your average link without Areas: @Html.ActionLink("Home","Index","Home") and this is your average link with Areas: @Html.ActionLink("Home","Index", new { Area = "", Controller = "Home"}) Could the following work? (Main controller with subdirectories) I'm just trying to find out if implementing Areas in a project is worthwhile, because I also read that it can be problematic when using Dependency Injection.   I know this might be a little subjective. But I've read the other questions. A lot of answers kept on popping up like to use box2d, libgdx, andEngine, etc. So the real question is, what would be the best to start off with as a beginner. I have some experience with java code, just by reading about in the Oracle Docs. I've gone through Flash and Eclipse. When i mean gone through, i don't mean i have actually created my own game from Flash or Eclipse, but i just learn things here and there. Currently I'm reading Beginning Android for Beginners but I don't have the knowledge to implement my own Ideas into the game tutorials because of lack of experience. I'm looking for a way to learn how to program to create games for Android. While at the same time get experience from programming. I do not want to learn those drag and drop game making applications such as GameMaker.

• Dual screens with one workspace on each?

  Hi all, I have a dual screen, compiz-fusion and i don't have a NVDIA/ATI graphic card and i use ubuntu 10.10. i currently use the two monitors: the desktop is stretched across monitors and i can drag an application across monitors. My question follows: i would like to use the left monitor only to display workspace1 and the right monitor to display workspace2. Is this possible ? If yes how (I've found mention of dualXscreen on this board, but i can't find it in the compizConfig menus). Best,

  Though I have read and tried some advises regarding the change of colors in a theme, I found no answer regarding my question, which is: When I drag a window to the left (or right or up) side of the screen an orange frame shows up, indicating the area that the window will occupy. This frame is in orange. Can you please inform me how can I change this color to blueish, to match my theme? At this point, I would like to inform you that Zorin OS has this blueish frame instead of orange, but I do not know where this color comes from.

• Windows move onto second monitor when I turn it on

  I'm using a small monitor for my main display I also have an LCD TV hooked up through HDMI as my secondary display. The problem is whenever I turn on the TV most but usually not all of my currently running program windows jump to the secondary display. This is very annoying, because I don't like to keep my TV on unless I'm using it. So when I do turn it on I have to drag and drop each of the windows back on to my main display. I have played around with some Compiz settings to no avail please help.

• Is there any way to keep launchers synchronized among machines?

  Most of us use more than one machine for our purpose. The scenario for me is to use one at home, another at office. When comes to the launcher at left, the applications get added in chronological order. You can click and drag an application in launcher, but this is a tedious process. If your application placements are different among the machines, you loose the intuitive mouse click. You need to spend a few seconds to find out where actually the launcher is before you click on it. Is there any way I can keep the launcher applications (at least the locked ones) synchronized among machines? Thanks.

• Setting values and display Text in Android Spinner

  Hi, I need help in setting up value and display text in spinner. as per now I am populating my spinner by array adapter e.g mySpinner.setAdapter(myAdapter); and as far as I know after doing this the display text and the value of spinner at same position is same. The other attribute that I can get from spinner is the position on the item. now in my case I want to make spinner like the drop down box, which we have in .NET. which holds a text and value. where as text is displayed and value is at back end. so if I change drop down box , I can either use its selected text or value. but its not happening in android spinner case. For Example: Text Value Cat 10 Mountain 5 Stone 9 Fish 14 River 13 Loin 17 so from above array I am only displaying non-living objects text, and what i want is that when user select them I get there value i.e. like when Mountain selected i get 5 I hope this example made my question a bit more clear... thankx

  I'm creating a jqgrid with drop down columns and I'm using cell editing. I need the options of the drop down columns to change dynamically and I've tried implementing this by setting the column to be: { name: "AccountLookup", index: "AccountLookup", width: 90, editable: true, resizable: true, edittype: "select", formatter: "select" }, and then in the beforeCellEdit event I have: beforeEditCell: function(id, name, val, iRow, iCol) { if(name=='AccountLookup') { var listdata = GetLookupValues(id, name); if (listdata == null) listdata = "1:1"; jQuery("#grid").setColProp(name, { editoptions: { value: listdata.toString()} }) } }, GetLookupValues just returns a string in the format "1:One;2:Two" etc. That works fine however the options are populated one click behind - ie i click on AccountID in row 1, and the dropdown is empty, however when I then click on AccountID in row 3 the options I set in the row 1 click are shown in the row 3 click. And so on. So always one click behind. Is there another way of achieving what I need? Bacially the dropdown options displayed are always changing and I need to load them as user enters the cell for editing. Perhaps I can somehow get at the select control in the beforeEditCell event and manually enter its values instead of using the setColProp call? If so could I get an example of doing that please? Another thing - if the dropdown is empty and a user doesn't cancel the cell edit, the grid script throws an error. I'm using clientarray editing if that makes a difference.   I'm diving into iPhone OS development on the iPad and one of the things I'm playing with is the SplitView template. The template provides a window with a UISplitView view, containing the Root View (on the left of the window) and the Detail View (on the right of the window). The Root View is a subclass of a TableView. Rather than having the entire Root View consist of a TableView, I'd like it to contain a DatePicker view along with the TableView under it. When I go into IB and try and drop a DatePicker into the Root View, it won't let me. It will only let me add a DatePicker view to the Detail View. Why wont IB let me drop a DatePicker view into the Root View? How can I add a DatePicker to the RootView in addition to the TableView? I'm still learning this new platform, so I apologize if these questions are absurd in any way. Thanks so much in advance for your help, I'm going to continue researching these questions right now.

• How to remove FacesMessages from the FacesContext?

  In my screen, I have a drop down(select box), on selection of any of the options in that drop down , i display one or more text boxes beside the select box using javascript/css - display:none and display:block. All these input controls are in the same jsf form. Each of the input controls have their own validator. The problem is suppose the user selects from selection box and doesn't input value or inputs a wrong value for , i add a custom FacesMessage in the Validator and is shown appropriately and suppose the user selects the the second time and inputs the wrong value for the then another FacesMessage is added in the validator. But Now both the Messages are shown - means - the message for and - which is wrong My assumption is that , this happens because they exist in the same form and their instances are not destroyed yet in the FacesContext and in the UIView. I decided to delete the messages this way Iterator<FacesMessage> msgIterator = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getMessages(); while(msgIterator.hasNext()) { msgIterator.next(); msgIterator.remove(); } But this sometimes gives java.util.NoSuchElementException org.apache.myfaces.shared_impl.renderkit.html.HtmlMessagesRendererBase$MessagesIterator.next So 2 questions : 1) What is the problem in deleting the FacesMessages this way? I am using myfaces-api-1.2.3.jar and myfaces-impl-1.2.3.jar 2) Is there a better approach to handle my scenario? I only want to show relevent messages every time a jsf request is processed Thanks

  Hi, I have a unexpected problem. I had create a war with grails war. Then I had deployed in Tomcat. For my surprise the crud works fine but I don't know what persistence is using. So I did this test: Compare grails prod run-app with grails prod run-war. The first works fine, and does conect with the mysql database. The other don't.
