• SHA1 Password returns as cleartext after DB query

  Hi. I have a SHA1 password and PasswordSalt in my aspnet_Membership table. but, when I run a query from the server (a Sql Query), the reader reveals that the pass has returned as its cleartext equivalent. • Get label height for fixed width

  Is there any way I can get the height of a label, if it hypothetically had a certain width? I've been trying with control.GetPreferredSize(size) like so: Dim wantedWidth as Integer = 100 dim ctrlSize as Size = label.GetPreferredSize(new Size(wantedWidth, 0)) because I thought that setting height = 0, would indicate a free height, but the height I get is way too small. I also tried to estimate the height of the label, using Graphics.MeasureString to calculate the equivalent area of the Label dim prefWidth as Integer = 100 dim estSize as SizeF = g.MeasureString(label.Text, label.Font) dim estHeight as Integer = (Integer)(estSize.Width * estSize.Height / prefWidth) but that yields the same result. Any ideas? I'm on .NET 2.0, unfortunately.

• Instance where embedded C++ compilers don't support multiple inheritance?

  I read a bit about a previous attempt to make a C++ standard for embedded platforms where they specifically said multiple inheritance was bad and thus not supported. From what I understand, this was never implemented as a mainstream thing and most embedded C++ compilers support most standard C++ constructs. Are there cases where a compiler on a current embedded platform (i.e. something not more than a few years old) absolutely does not support multiple inheritance? I don't really want to do multiple inheritance in a sense where I have a child with two full implementations of a class. What I am most interested in is inheriting from a single implementation of a class and then also inheriting one or more pure virtual classes as interfaces only. This is roughly equivalent to Java/.Net where I can extend only one class but implement as many interfaces as I need. In C++ this is all done through multiple inheritance rather than being able to specifically define an interface and declare a class implements it.

• (Wordpress) Global variable to detect pagination?

  I am showing 6 posts on one page. On the 7th post, pagination occurs on so on. goal: If there is more than one page (page 1, 2, 3, etc..), JavaScript is to add a specific div element. If there are only 6 posts or less, no pagination occurs, no div element is added. The number of posts to show: $showposts = get_query_var('showposts'); The current post number I can keep track of: $post_count++; Problem is I can keep track of posts 1-6 but how to tell if if it goes over to 7 and starts pagination? I thought there was a global variable that returns if pagination occurs, but I can't seem to find it. (I know there is global to detect pagination via <!--nextpage--> but so far I can't find it's equivalent for index.php).

• How do you detect when the mouse leaves the stage in ActionScript 2?

  I have the bad luck of having to downport some ActionScript 3 code to ActionScript 2 and I have a problem with detecting when the mouse leaves the stage. In ActionScript 3 there is an event called Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, which can be used to detect when the mouse leaves the stage, but there is no equivalent in ActionScript 2 as far as I can see. How would you best emulate the same functionality? Listening for mouse movement and checking the mouse coordinates against the bounds of the stage doesn't work because the mouse coordinates stop updating when the mouse leaves the stage.

  I am trying to port my usage meter from a JavaScript Gadget (win) / Widget (OSX) to Android. Total newbie when comes to JAVA + Eclipse + Android 2.1 SDK. Essentially what I want to do is load a page, pass through a username and password and load the resulting page into a array that I can then run some regular expressions through. The question is, if there is no need to update the row ( because the set value is already the same as the field value), will those rows counted as the affected row? Take for example, I have the following table: ID | Name | Books 1 | S1oon | Me 2 | S1oon | Me Let's assume that I write a ORM function of the equivalent of the following query: update `new table` set Books='Me' where Name='S1oon'; What will the doUpdate result return? Will it return 0 ( because all the Books column are already Me, hence there is no need to update), or will it be 2 ( because there are 2 rows that fulfill the where condition) ?

• How do I find the IP address of a GPRS modem?

  I want to pull data from a device that is accessed via a serial protocol and has a GPRS modem attached which should allow transparent access over an IP connection. It seems to me that this approach is upside down, because how should I know at which IP address the device currently is? Unfortunately, the device itself is rather dumb, so I can't make it send something to my server, which would reveal the current IP. For home routers on dialup lines, there's dynamic DNS services. Is there something equivalent in the mobile world? Each modem would, of course, have its phone number as a reliable address, but how does that help me? Practically all material on GPRS etc. that I can find online seems to be concerned with initiating the connection from the modem side, since that's what the system is designed for.

  I have a string called 'raw'. I am trying to parse it in ruby in the following way: raw = "HbA1C ranging 8.0—10.0%" raw.scan /\d*.?\d+[ ](-+|\342\200\224)[ ]\d*.?\d+/ The output from the above is []. I think it should be: ["8.0—10.0"]. Does anyone have any insight into what is wrong with the above regex statement? Note: \342\200\224 is equal to '—'. The piece that is not working is: (-+|\342\200\224) I think it should be equivalent to saying, match on 1 or more '-' OR match on the string \342\200\224. Any help would be greatly appreciated it!

  As the title says: What techniques are available for filtering objects when using zodb? The equivalent in SQL terms would be something like filtering results by a date range. Or only returning rows with a particular value set in a column. If I had a series of blog posts and only wanted ones done in the past month, what would I have to do? Is there any way to optimize these kinds of "queries"? My gut tells me iterating over all the objects in a relationship simply to perform a test is less than optimal.

And I later want to wrap it with a function bar: (defun bar (x &rest args) (foo x 100 args)) Assume bar was then called like this: (bar 50 1 2 3) With this setup, args is a list within the body of bar that holds the trailing parameters, so when I pass it to foo, instead of getting the equivalent of (foo 50 100 1 2 3) I of course get (foo 50 100 '(1 2 3)). If these were macros, I would use `(foo ,x 100 ,@args) within the body of bar to splice args into the function call. ,@ only works inside a backtick-quoted list, however. How can I do this same sort of splicing within a regular function?

  I need to create a script to search through just below a million files of text, code, etc. to find matches and then output all hits on a particular string pattern to a CSV file. So far I made this; $location = 'C:\Work*' $arr = "foo", "bar" #Where "foo" and "bar" are string patterns I want to search for (separately) for($i=0;$i -lt $arr.length; $i++) { Get-ChildItem $location -recurse | select-string -pattern $($arr[$i]) | select-object Path | Export-Csv "C:\Work\Results\$($arr[$i]).txt" } This returns to me a CSV file named "foo.txt" with a list of all files with the word "foo" in it, and a file named "bar.txt" with a list of all files containing the word "bar". Is there any way anyone can think of to optimize this script to make it work faster? Or ideas on how to make an entirely different, but equivalent script that just works faster? All input appreciated!

• Help with porting thread functionality: Win32 --> .Net

  Hi, I am responsible for porting a class from legacy Win32 code to .Net and I have come across a threading model that I'm not sure how best to implement in .Net. Basically the Win32 has one worker thread, which calls WaitForMultipleObjects() and executes the particular piece of code when a particular object has been triggered. This has a sort of first-come-first-serve effect that I need to emulate in my own code. But I'm not sure how best to do this in .Net. Does anyone have any idea? I see that there is no equivalent of WaitForMultipleObjects() in .Net, only the ThreadPool class, which seems to provide most of what I need, but I'm not sure if it's the best, since I only have four objects total to wait and execute code for. • Compiling SQLite into programs that run on Symbian 9.1 and above?

  How can I use SQLite C API’s on any device running Symbian OS 9.1 or above? While it appears that 9.4 comes with SQLite built in prior versions do not. Looking at http://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlites60/ it appears that sQLite has been ported to older Symbian releases. The only problem is this code assumes you want to use SQLite with .net when I want to compile it into a .sis file and call the C API’s. Ideally I’d compile a Symbian equivalent of amalgamation.c and call the sQLite functions directly but am not sure if this is possible.

• C++ Structure within itself?

  I've been trying to port this code to python, but there is something I do not quite understand in C++ (I do know a bit of C++ but this is beyond me): typedef struct huffnode_s { struct huffnode_s *zero; struct huffnode_s *one; unsigned char val; float freq; } huffnode_t; What I don't get is how huffnode_s can be within itself, I've never seen this before and don't quite understand it. • Sql Server XML-type column duplicate entry detection

  In Sql Server I am using an XML type column to store a message. I do not want to store duplicate messages. I only will have a few messages per user. I am currently querying the table for these messages, converting the XML to string in my C# code. I then compare the strings with what I am about to insert. Unfortunately, Sql Server pretty-prints the data in the XML typed fields. What you store into the database is not necessarily exactly the same string as what you get back out later. It is functionally equivalent, but may have white space removed, etc. Is there an efficient way to compare an XML string that I am considering inserting with those that are already in the database? As an aside, if I detect a duplicate I need to delete the older message then insert the replacement.

  Attempting to implement a poor man's test of whether a process is still running or not (essentially an equivalent of the trivial kill(pid, 0).) Hoped to be able to simply call OpenProcess with some minimal desired access then test for either GetLastError() == ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER or GetExitCodeProcess(...) != STILL_ACTIVE. Nice try... Running on Windows XP, as administrator: HANDLE hProc = OpenProcess(PROCESS_QUERY_INFORMATION, FALSE, pid); if (!hProc) { DWORD dwLastError = GetLastError(); } ...fails miserably with dwLastError == ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED when pid is owned by a different (not SYSTEM) user. Moreover, if pid was originally owned by a different user but has since terminated, OpenProcess also fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED (not ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER.) Do I have to use Process32First/Process32Next or EnumProcesses? I absolutely do not want to use SeDebugPrivilege. Thanks, V

  I running into some performance issues with a jquery script i wrote when running in ie so I'm going through it trying to optimize any way possible. Apparently using for loops is way faster than using the jQuery .each method. This has led me to a question regarding the equivalent of $(this) inside a for loop. I'm simplifying what I'm doing in my loop down to just using an attr() function as it gets across my main underlying question. Im doing this with each(simplified) var existing = $('#existing'); existing.each(function(){ console.log($(this).attr('id')); }); And I've tried rewriting it as a for loop as such: var existing = $('#existing'); for(var i = 0;i < existing.length;i++) { console.log(existing[i].attr('id')); } Its throwing an error saying: Uncaught TypeError: Object #<HTMLDivElement> has no method 'attr' Thanks.

For example, each is like that: id of element | date | text What I'm asking is the equivalent of the NSString stringWithFormat:. Can we do the same for an Mutable Dictionary? To be more practical, let's say the NSString *date is equal to "23/12/2009" (for europe). I want to create a dictionary called 23/12/2009 without declaring *23/12/2009 but just something like dictionaryWithFormat: @"%@", date]; I'm stuck on this, and I don't even know if it is possible. • Non-deprecated replacement for NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace?

  I'm implementing my own NSBitmapImageRep (to draw PBM image files). To draw them, I'm using NSDrawBitmap() and passing it the NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace (as the bits are 1 for black, 0 for white). Trouble is, I get the following warning: warning: 'NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace' is deprecated However, I couldn't find a good replacement for it. NSCalibratedWhiteColorSpace gives me an inverted image, and there seems to be no way to get NSDrawBitmap() to use a CGColorSpaceRef or NSColorSpace that I could create as a custom equivalent to NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace. I've found a (hacky) way to shut up the warning (so I can still build warning-free until a replacement becomes available) by just passing @"NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace" instead of the symbolic constant, but I'd rather apply a correct fix. Anybody have an idea?

  I've been going through some old code, where I came across some custom defined delegates, which are used thus: private delegate void ListenDelegate(UdpClient listener, bool multicast); private void ListenOn(UdpClient listener, bool multicast) { new ListenDelegate(_ListenLoop).BeginInvoke(listener, multicast, null, null); } With some of the new .NET framework versions, you can do the following: private void ListenOn(UdpClient listener, bool multicast) { new Action<UdpClient, bool>(_ListenLoop).BeginInvoke(listener, multicast, null, null); } This ought to be exactly the same. Is there any point in defining your own delegates, when the generic delegates seem to do the same job with less space? Or have I missed something about the generics that makes them not equivalent?
