• Best way to make a WYSIWYG in Flex?

  Hello, I have a client that wants a WYSIWYG form that behaves like MS word. It will have some section labels in it, with users expected to enter notes for each section, and it needs a place holder for a chart. The trick is that the user needs to know where page breaks are going to fall when printed. The customer agrees to fixed size paper with fixed sized margins. How should I approach this challenge? Thank you very much for your suggestions. Here is an example: Section 1: Explain Idea Here { As user types in this section, the space between this section and the next section expands, but I as the user can't delete the lines that say Section 1 or 2, or the place holder for the chart. However if I type a lot of text, I need to display where the page breaks are with a dashed line or something, so the user can make sure the content enters appears on the desired page. • Stack Overflow like Watermarks in Forms

  Hey people, I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere that talks of how to style your input forms in a more "usable" way. Essentially, you have a placeholder value and when you enter the input, it hides the hint so to speak. Now, just to be clear: I don't want the hint (placeholder value text) to disappear onFocus, but rather to go lighter when I first start typing something. Good e.gs: Check out the forms on Aardvark http://vark.com/. This is exactly how I wish to have my input forms. Our very own stackoverflow. When you try to ask a question, on clicking inside any input form, it doesn't hide the text right away. You see your cursor as well as the hint. but when you start to type, it hides the hint(I would prefer having it go to a much lighter shade rather than hiding all together, like above example). I remember very clearly reading a tutorial somewhere on the interwebz with this exact requirement, but darn forgot to bookmark it. Any suggestions/links?

• C# async callback on disposed form

  Quick question: One of my forms in my winform app (c#) makes an async call to a WCF service to get some data. If the form happens to close before the callback happens, it crashes with an error about accessing a disposed object. What's the correct way to check/handle this situation? The error happens on the Invoke call to the method to update my form, but I can't drill down to the inner exception because it says the code has been optimized. • Is there a way to validates_presence_of only one time? (to skip that validation once the user's been

  So, I'd like for a user to see an error message if he submits a comment and the :name is blank (typical error message, don't need help with that). However, I'd then like to allow the user to skip that validation once he's been notified that "we like all comments to have a name." So, he submits the comment once, sees the notification, then can submit the form again unchanged if he really doesn't want to add a name, and the validates_presences_of :name is skipped. But, I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I thought about checking to see where the request is coming from, but after a create, errors are handed off to the "new" action, which is the same as actual "new" comments. I then thought about checking to see if flash[errors] were present, but that won't work because there are other validations a comment has to pass. Finally, I thought about trying a validates_presences_of :name, :unless = :notified but wasn't sure how to define notified. I honestly hate asking such an open ended question, but wasn't sure where to get started. So, is there a way to just check a certain validation once?

• How to use JQuery Validate to create a popup with all form error when the submit button is clicked?

  I am using the JQuery Validation plugin for client side form validation. In addition to the colorful styling on invalid form fields, my client requires that a popup message be shown. I only want to show this message when the submit button is click because it would drive the user crazy otherwise. I tried the following code, but errorList is always empty. • Rails 3 : Can't get form_for to work as a 'delete' following the RESTful achitecture => always giving a ROUTING ERROR

In my relationships controller, I have created all the propers methods: def create ... end def destroy ... end def update ... end def show ... end And in my routes config I have made sure to allow all routes for the relationships controller resources :relationships But I can't seem to get into the destroy method of the controller :( However if I remove the :html => {:method => 'delete'} method parameter in the form_for then I get to the create method of the controller no pb.   I am trying to apply the Decorator Design Pattern to the following situation: I have 3 different kind of forms: Green, Yellow, Red. Now, each of those forms can have different set of attributes. They can have a minimize box disabled, a maximized box disabled and they can be always on top. I know probably there are better ways of achieving what I want. I made this example as an attempt to apply the Decorator Pattern to something. Maybe this wasn't the best pattern I could have used(if one, at all) to this kind of scenario. Is there any other pattern more suitable than the Decorator to accomplish this?   I have a question: I need to create a user form that contain that usual OK and Cancel Buttons. It also should contain two sets of Options buttons, each set placed inside a frame. The captions on the first set should be basketball, baseball, football, the captions on the second set should be watch on TV and Go to games. I need to write the event handlers and code in a module so that when the program runs, the user sees the form. If the user makes a couple of choices and clicks OK, he should see a message like "Your favorite sport is basketball, and you usually watch on TV." If the user clicks Cancel, the message "Sorry you don't want to play" should appear. I think I almost have it working, but I don't know why I cannot successfully execute the Macro. • Visual Studio crashes when I add a .settings file in a C++ Windows form application

  I'm trying to add a .settings file in a windows form application by adding a (whatever) file in the project and have it named smthng.settings. Right after it is created, it crashes (if I look into the project's directory the file is there, but it's not "in" the project). Am I doing it wrong or could it be that the problem lies elsewhere? Edit: It seems that it's the settings designer that crashes. Partially Solved:If I add a (whatever).config file, then rename it to .settings and change it's file type to C/C++ Code (don't ask how I figured this out..) then I can add to it settings, but if I do add something that has any connection to the form then automatically a (whatever).config with thew same name spawns (which is identical to the (whatever).setting even if change one of them) and at the stdafx.cpp a #include '(whatever).h' appears, which is a problem, because there is not such a header. (if I erase it or just create a blank (whatever).h it doesn't work. Apparently I have to somehow connect all the data in the (w/e).settings to (w/e).h as well or maybe something else) Anyone had this problem before? Anyone has any ideas?

• Why does this tooltip appear *below* a transclucent form?

  I have an form with an Opacity less then 1.0. I have a tooltip associated with a label on the form. When I hover the mouse over the label, the tooltip shows up under the form instead of over the form. If I leave the Opacity at its default value of 1.0, the tooltip correctly appears over the form. However, my form is obviously no longer translucent. ;-) I'm testing on an XP system with .NET 3.5. If you don't see this problem on your system, let me know what operating system and version of .NET you have. I have tried manually adjusting the position of the ToolTip with SetWindowPos() and creating a ToolTip "by hand" using CreateWindowEx(), but the problem remains. This makes me suspect its a Win32 API problem, not a problem with the Windows Forms implementation that runs on top of Win32. Why does the tooltip appear under the form, and, more importantly, how can I get it to appear over the form where it should? • C# app running as either Windows Form or as Console Application

  I am looking to have one of my Windows Forms applications be run programmatically—from the command line. In preparation, I have separated the logic in its own class from the Form. Now I am stuck trying to get the application to switch back and forth based on the presence of command line arguments. Would it make more sense (i.e. take less developer time) to have my logic class be a DLL that gets loaded by two separate applications? Or is there something entirely different that I'm not aware of? • Lustre - is this bad form?

  Im going to be consolidating several 'server rooms' into a single installation soon. Part of this effort will be finding a home for 5Tb (and growing) of files / logs. To this end Im looking at Lustre and appreciating its ability to scale. The big vendors want to sell me a $20K SAN to manage this but Im wondering about buying several iSCSI units (like this http://www.asacomputers.com/3U-iSCSI-Solution.html) and using VMs for the OSS machines. This would let me fail-over to cover problems and not require a dedicated system for each OSS. Given articles like this (http://h30565.www3.hp.com/t5/Feature-Articles/RAID-Is-Dead-Long-Live-RAID/ba-p/1422) that talk about how RAID is not keeping up with drive density Im leaning towards more disks with lower capacity each. Again - some akin to the iSCSI array above. Tell me why this is a terrible idea. Do I really need to invest in a PE710 for each OSS/OST?

• Uninstallation of WSUS form SBS 2008

  I am not much experienced system admin, but i came across the client who was having SBS 2008. The server was running out of HDD space. So to recover some, I removed its WSUS role (twas not needed).this removed WSUS 3.0 SP1 & freed a lot of space. This SBS is: Domian controller, DNS, DHCP, File server. After i removed WSUS i disabled windows update service & i rebooted serer & checked from one of client if the shared folders are accessible. they were. Next day all of sudden i got call from them saying they can't login into their domain. I looked into server, the Active directory service was stopped. I never remember touching any service other than windows update. How come AD service stopped running all of sudden. Is removing WSUS have such impact? I am not aware of any such thing.

OK, so I have a Drupal site and I need users to be able to sign up for certain content, here is the workflow in detail: I need a form within a block consisting of the following elements: First Name (required) Last Name (required) Organisation (optional) Email Address (required) Then there will be a choice of content to sign up to (using checkboxes): Policy Bulletin Action News eBulletin (which only members can sign up to) Then the usual submit button of course! Upon submission, users will: 1) Be taken to a confirmation page, or 2) Be informed about incorrectly filled in fields, and/or the need to become a user to be able to sign up for the eBulletin. Users will then receive an email when new content of the type(s) they signed up to is created, along with a link to the node. There should be details about how to unsubscribe within this email. I have used the Subscriptions module in the past, but I am not sure if it is possible to use a sign-up form with it. Plus, there is the added complexity that one of the content types, eBulletin, is only available for site members. Like I say, I'm struggling to know where to start, and any ideas would be gratefully received!

• PHP question about global variables and form requests

  Hi, This is probably a stupid question but will ask anyway sine I have no idea. I have written basic php code which serve forms. Say I have a login page and I serve it using the login.php page and it will be called in the login.html page like this - <form action="login.php" method="post"> By this it is also implied that every POST needs its own php file, doesn't it? This kind of feels weird. Is there a way to have a single file, say code.php, and just have each of the forms as functions instead? EDIT: Specifically, say I have 5 forms that are used one after the other in my application. Say after login the user does A, B, C and D tasks each of which are sent to the server as a POST request. So instead of having A.php, B.php, C.php and D.php I would like to have a single code.php and have A(), B(), C() and D() as functions. Is there a way to do this? Also on the same note, how do I deal with say a global array (e.g. an array of currently logged in users) across multiple forms? I want to do this without writing to a DB. I know its probably better to write to a DB and query but is it even possible to do it with a global array? The reason I was thinking about having all the form functions in one file is to use a global array. Thanks, - Pav

• Windows 7/Outlook 2010 cut off controls on form windows

  I am running windows 7 with multiple monitors. 2 at 1920 x 1200 and 1 at 1600x900 resolution. Controls are cut off and I cannot view the entire content of the window. As far as I can tell I only have the issue with Outlook 2010, it may be present in other applications but I haven't noticed it. For example to get to the more settings button I have to use tab and then click enter. The more settings button is never visible. I have used applications that allow you to force windows to be resizable, however the anchoring is such that it remains cut off. This has been present over multiple clean installs on the system. My DPI is set to 100% unlike this issue.

• Generic validate input data via regex. Input error when match.count == 0

  Hi, I have a number of types of data fields on an input form, for example, a web page. Some fields are like, must be an email address, must be a number, must be a number between, must have certain characters. Basically, the list is undefinable. I wish to come up with a generic way of validating the data inputed. I thought I would use regex to validate the data. The fields which need validation would be related to a "regex expression" and a "regex error message" stating what the field should contain. My current mock up has that when the match count is zero, that would signify an error and to display the message. While still a white belt regex designer I have come to understand that in certain situations that it is difficult to write a regex which results in a match count of zero for every case. A complex regex case I looked for help on was Link Here. The forum post was a disaster because I confused people helping me. But one of the statements said that it was difficult to make a regex with a match count of zero meaning the input data was invalid; that the regex was very difficult to write that for. Does anyone have comments or suggestions on this generic validation system I am trying to create? thanks
