  • How to make and use first object in Objective C to store sender tag

    - by dbonneville
I started with a sample program that simply sets up a UIView with some buttons on it. Works great. I want to access the sender tag from each button and save it. My first thought was to save it to a global variable but I couldn't get it to work right. I thought the best way would be to create an object with one property and synthesize it so I can get or set it as needed. First, I created GlobalGem.h: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface GlobalGem : NSObject { int gemTag; } @property int gemTag; -(void) print; @end Then I created GlobalGem.m: #import "GlobalGem.h" @implementation GlobalGem @synthesize gemTag; -(void) print { NSLog(@"gemTag value is %i", gemTag); } @end The sample code I worked from doesn't do anything I can see in "main" where the program initializes. They just have their methods and are set up to handle IBOutlet actions. I want to use this object in the IBOutlet methods. But I don't know where to create the object. In the viewDidLoad, I tried this: GlobalGem *aGem = [[GlobalGem alloc]init]; [aGem print]; I added reference to the .h file of course. The print method works. In the nslog I get "gemTag value is 0". But now I want to use the instance aGem in some of the IBOutlet actions. For instance, if I put this same method in one of the outlet actions like this: - (IBAction)touchButton:(id)sender { [aGem print]; } ...I get a build error saying that "aGem is undeclared". Yes, I'm new to objective c and am very confused. Is the instance I created, aGem, in the viewDidLoad not accessible outside of that method? How would I create an instance of a Class that I can store a variable value that any of the IBOutlet methods can access? All the buttons need to be able to store their sender tag in the instance aGem and I'm stuck. As I mentioned earlier, I was able to write the sender tag to a global variable I declared in the UIView .h file that came with the program, but I ran into issues using it. Where am I off?

  • Defining a Class in Objective C, XCode

    - by Brett
    Hello; I am new to Objective C, and am trying to write a class that defines a complex number. The code seems fine but when I print to the console, my values for instance variables are 0. Here is the code: // // ComplexNumber.h // Mandelbrot Set // // Created by Brett on 10-06-02. // Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. All rights reserved. // #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <stdio.h> @interface ComplexNumber : NSObject { double real; double imaginary; } // Getters -(double) real; -(double) imaginary; // Setters -(void)setReal: (double) a andImaginary: (double) b; //Function -(ComplexNumber *)squared; @end // // ComplexNumber.m // Mandelbrot Set // // Created by Brett on 10-06-02. // Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. All rights reserved. // #import "ComplexNumber.h" #import <math.h> #import <stdio.h> @implementation ComplexNumber -(double)real{ return self->real; } -(double)imaginary{ return self->imaginary; } -(void)setReal: (double) a andImaginary: (double) b{ self->real=a; self->imaginary=b; } -(ComplexNumber *)squared{ double a = pow(real,2); double b = pow(imaginary, 2); double c = 2*real*imaginary; ComplexNumber *d; [d setReal:(a-b) andImaginary: c]; return d; } @end In the App Delegate for debugging purposes I added: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { ComplexNumber *testNumber = [[ComplexNumber alloc] init]; [testNumber setReal:55.0 andImaginary:30.0]; NSLog(@"%d", testNumber.real); // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } But the console returns 0 everytime. Help?

  • Icons on CMFCOutlookBar

    - by steve-weeks
I'm using CMFCOutlookBar from the Feature Pack, and I'm trying to put an icon on the "button" of the tabbed pane - the thing that slides up and down in the bar, when you select a pane. The pane API includes a "SetIcon" function, but this doesn't do anything as far as I can tell. Neither does the "SetTabHicon" function of the bar. Does anyone know how to do this?

  • NOOB Memory Problem - EXC_BAD_ACCESS (OBJ-C/iPhone)

    - by Michael Bordelon
I have been banging my head against the wall for a couple days and need some help. I have a feeling that I am doing something really silly here, but I cannot find the issue. This is the controller for a table view. I put the SQL in line to simplify it as part of the troubleshooting of this error. Normally, it would be in an accessor method in a model class. It gets through the SQL read just fine. Finds the two objects, loads them into the todaysWorkout array and then builds the cells for the table view. The table view actually comes up on the scree and then it throws the EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I ran instruments and it shows the following: 0 CFString Malloc 1 00:03.765 0x3946470 176 Foundation -[NSPlaceholderString initWithFormat:locale:arguments:] 1 CFString Autorelease 00:03.765 0x3946470 0 Foundation NSRecordAllocationEvent 2 CFString CFRelease 0 00:03.767 0x3946470 0 Bring It -[WorkoutViewController viewDidLoad] 3 CFString Zombie -1 00:03.917 0x3946470 0 Foundation NSPopAutoreleasePool Here is the source code for the controller. I left it all in there just in case there is something extraneous causing the problem. I sincerely appreciate any help I can get: HEADER: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import <sqlite3.h> #import "NoteCell.h" #import "BIUtility.h" #import "Bring_ItAppDelegate.h" #import "MoveListViewController.h" @class MoveListViewController; Hi All, From a developer perspective, what would myself and my team gain from using Visual Studio Team System and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server? I can see some features and the like, but what have you gained from using the two versus using Visual Studio Professional and SVN. Thanks, Kyle (Apologies if there's a dupe, I can't find it though)

  • How to open DataSet in Visual Studio 2008 faster?

    - by Ekkapop
When I open DataSet in Visual Studio 2008 to design or modify it, it always take a very long time (more than five minutes) before I can continue to do my job. While I'm waiting I can't do anything on Visual Studio, moreover CPU and memory usage is growth dramatically. I want to know, Is it has anyway to reduce this waiting time? Hardware - Desktop CPU: Intel Q6600 Memory: 4 GB HDD: 320 GB 7200 rpm OS: Windows XP 32 bit with Service Pack 3

I created a framework for common tasks such as XML parsing, buttons and so on. Can I upload my application in App Store if it uses this framework? I saw somewhere that App Store did not support private frameworks. Is this a private framework, even though I created it using Apple's libraries, such as UIkit, Foundation, etc.?

  • Is it possible to restore a previous GL framebuffer?

    - by Rob
Hi there, I'm working on an iPhone app that lets the user draw using GL. I used the GLPaint sample code project as a firm foundation, but now I want to add the ability for the user to load one of their previous drawings and continue working on it. I know how to get the framebuffer contents and save it as a UIImage. Is there a way for me to take the UIImage and tell GL to draw that? Any help is much appreciated.

  • exc_bad_access on insertNewObjectForEntityForName:inManagedObjectContext

    - by matthewc
I have a garbage collected Cocoa application built on 10.5 frameworks. In an NSOperation In a loop I am quickly creating hundreds of NSManagedObjects. Frequently the creation of those NSManagedObejcts will crash with a exc_bad_access error. for (offsetCount; offsetCount < [parsedData count]; offsetCount++) { NSManagedObject *child = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Thread" inManagedObjectContext:[self moc]]; Thumbnail *thumb = [Thumbnail insertInManagedObjectContext:[self moc]]; Image *image = [Image insertInManagedObjectContext:[self moc]]; ... } Thumbnail and Image are both subclasses of NSManagedObject generated with mogenerator. insertInManagedObjectContext: looks like NSParameterAssert(moc_); return [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Thumbnail" inManagedObjectContext:moc_]; NSParameterAssert(moc_); return [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Image" inManagedObjectContext:moc_]; The NSManagedObjectContext returned by [self moc] is created for the NSOperation with NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *coord = [(MyApp_AppDelegate *)[[NSApplication sharedApplication] delegate] persistentStoreCoordinator]; self.moc = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] init]; [self.moc setPersistentStoreCoordinator:coord]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(contextDidSave:) name:NSManagedObjectContextDidSaveNotification object:self.moc]; [self.moc setMergePolicy:NSMergeByPropertyObjectTrumpMergePolicy]; [self.moc setUndoManager:nil]; [self.moc setRetainsRegisteredObjects:YES]; moc is defined as (nonatomic, retain) and synthesized. As far as I can tell it, the persistent store and my appDelegate have no reason to be and are not being garbage collected. • UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum showing memory leak with iPhone connected to Instruments

    - by user168739
Hi, I'm using version 3.0.1 of the SDK. With the iPhone connected to Instruments I'm getting a memory leak when I call UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum. Below is my code: NSString *gnTmpStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", count]; UIImage *ganTmpImage = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:gnTmpStr ofType:@"jpg"]]; // Request to save the image to camera roll UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(ganTmpImage, self, @selector(imageSavedToPhotosAlbum:didFinishSavingWithError:contextInfo:), nil); and the selector method - (void)imageSavedToPhotosAlbum:(UIImage *)image didFinishSavingWithError:(NSError *)error contextInfo:(void *)contextInfo { NSString *message; NSString *title; if (!error) { title = @"Wallpaper"; message = @"Wallpaper Saved"; } else { title = @"Error"; message = [error description]; } UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:title message:message delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"OK" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; } Am I forgetting to release something once the image has been saved and the selector method imageSavedToPhotosAlbum is called? Or is there a possible known issue with UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum? Here is the stack trace from Instruments: Leaked Object: GeneralBlock-3584 size: 3.50 KB 30 MyApp start 29 MyApp main /Users/user/Desktop/MyApp/main.m:14 28 UIKit UIApplicationMain 27 UIKit -[UIApplication _run] 26 GraphicsServices GSEventRunModal 25 CoreFoundation CFRunLoopRunInMode 24 CoreFoundation CFRunLoopRunSpecific 23 GraphicsServices PurpleEventCallback 22 UIKit _UIApplicationHandleEvent 21 UIKit -[UIApplication sendEvent:] 20 UIKit -[UIWindow sendEvent:] 19 UIKit -[UIWindow _sendTouchesForEvent:] 18 UIKit -[UIControl touchesEnded:withEvent:] 17 UIKit -[UIControl(Internal) _sendActionsForEvents:withEvent:] 16 UIKit -[UIControl sendAction:to:forEvent:] 15 UIKit -[UIApplication sendAction:toTarget:fromSender:forEvent:] 14 UIKit -[UIApplication sendAction:to:from:forEvent:] 13 CoreFoundation -[NSObject performSelector:withObject:withObject:] 12 UIKit -[UIBarButtonItem(Internal) _sendAction:withEvent:] 11 UIKit -[UIApplication sendAction:to:from:forEvent:] 10 CoreFoundation -[NSObject performSelector:withObject:withObject:] 9 MyApp -[FlipsideViewController svPhoto] /Users/user/Desktop/MyApp/Classes/FlipsideViewController.m:218 8 0x317fa528 7 0x317e3628 6 0x317e3730 5 0x317edda4 4 0x3180fc74 3 Foundation +[NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:toTarget:withObject:] 2 Foundation -[NSThread start] 1 libSystem.B.dylib pthread_create 0 libSystem.B.dylib malloc I did a test with a new project and only added this code below in the viewDidLoad: NSString *gnTmpStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"DefaultTest"]; UIImage *ganTmpImage = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:gnTmpStr ofType:@"png"]]; // Request to save the image to camera roll UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(ganTmpImage, nil, nil, nil); The same leak shows up right after the app loads Thank you for the help. • Why use Buildr instead of Ant or Maven?

    - by Scott Markwell
http://buildr.apache.org/ http://ant.apache.org/ http://maven.apache.org/ What does another build tool targeted at Java really get me? Is it so hard to write a plugin using Java versus writing it in Ruby? If you use Buildr over another tool, why? Side question: How many build systems does the Apache foundation need targeted at Java?

  • Examples of useful or non-trival dual interfaces

    - by Scott Weinstein
Recently Erik Meijer and others have show how IObservable/IObserver is the dual of IEnumerable/IEnumerator. The fact that they are dual means that any operation on one interface is valid on the other, thus providing a theoretical foundation for the Reactive Extentions for .Net Do other dual interfaces exist? I'm interested in any example, not just .Net based.

  • VS 2008 hangs(slow) when I select "File > Open > Web Site..."

    - by Sam
When I try to select the following "File Open Web Site" or use the shortcut key "Shift + Alt + O" (which does the same), Visual Studio 2008 hangs with the loading mouse icon for about 8-10 seconds then the file. But if I do "File Open Project/Solution.." or "File Open File..." the explorer window comes up in under a second, instantly most times. Computer Specs: Windows 7 x64 Visual Studio 2008 Pro Edition with Service Pack 1 Intel Core2 Due e6420 @ 3.2GHz 4GB DDR2
