  • Will Windows fail activation on a new hard drive after previous hard drive failed

    - by ServerBloke
I have a failing hard drive which won't boot, that has Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I have a replacement hard drive on the way. My question is will I run into problems trying to install Windows 7 using the same cdkey and DVD on the new hard drive? I assume activation will find that the cdkey has already been activated and fail, especially if a hardware ID is checked which will probably be different because even though the other hardware is the same, the hard drive will be different.

  • New IP address with TSOCKS

    - by Matthew Downey
I am using tsocks on my Ubuntu machine and I have it all set up so that if I run wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' in my normal shell I get my real IP address, and if I run tsocks wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' I get another IP address like I should. My question is how do I make the tsocks command return with a different 'different address'; in other words establish a new identity.

  • Get Email Notification of new items on one or more RSS feeds

    - by Decker
I'm looking for a program or website that will allow me to monitor RSS feeds and send email alerts when new material is posted. Can anyone advise me. I found http://www.feedmailer.net/ -- which looks like what I need, but the alerts come only once a day. I need something that checks much more frequently -- say every 10 minutes.

  • My new Intel X25-M G2 and the alignment thingy

    - by Oli
I just bought a new SSD for my laptop, which is going to be a server running ArchLinux with grub2, GPT and btrfs. My layout should look like this: (grub-partition?) /boot ext2 75MB / btrfs 15GB /home btrfs remaining What do I need to do to create these partitions in a correctly aligned fashion using parted? Do I need to consider alignment when formatting each partition with the desired file system?

  • New computer crashing

    - by Alister
I've just built a new computer and it crashes occasionally - it just switches off and then restarts and I'm not sure about the best way to diagnose the problem. All the components are seated nicely and nothing seems to be overheating, the bios is set to fail-safe. What tools could I use to track down any possible issues? I've run memtest86+ with no problems. It's running Win7 Ultimate.

  • adding a name to existing LN group distribution and new individuals do not receive email

    - by jocelyn suba
I made a recent edit to an existing group distribution to add a person. I've saved it. I see it in the detail of the group listing but plugging it into an email, the naming convention pops up, but not all people on the distribution actually receive the email. I tried deleting and re-adding the new person. I tried closing out then open up tto the detail, and all names show. How do i solve for this?

  • AD Stopping A script and Adding a Value to A User's Account Attribute

    - by Steven Maxon
‘This will launch the PPT in a GPO Dim ppt Set ppt = CreateObject("PowerPoint.Application") ppt.Visible = True ppt.Presentations.Open "C:\Scripts\Test.pptx" ‘This is the batch file at the end of the PPT that records the date, time, computer name and username echo "Logon Date:%date%,Logon Time:%time%,Computer Name:%computername%,User Name:%username%" \servertest\g$\Tracking\LOGON.TXT ‘This is what I need but can’t find: I need the script to check a value in the Active Directory user’s account in the Web page: attribute that would shut off the script if the user has already competed reading the presentation. Could be as simple as writing XXXX. I need the value XXXX written to the Active Directory user’s account in the Web page: attribute when they finish reading the presentation after they click on the bat file so the script will not run again when they log in. Thanks for any help.

  • amavisd Net server pid file already exists after system crash and startup

    - by Simiyu
Hi all, whenever i have an unclean shutdown, which is often due to power failure most of the time i get problems with amavis starting up. The error amavisd Net server pid_file already exists for running process comes when i start it under debug mode, so i always have to delete the amavisd.pid and amavisd.lock files manually before it starts. Is there a way i can stop this from happening or get a way to delete the files during reboot in the case of an unclean shutdown. Thanks

  • New laptop battery: 80% capacity [migrated]

    - by Danilo
I have got an old laptop (HP Pavilion DV2000, 5.5 years old) and I just bought a new battery for it (10,8V 5200mAh 6 Cells) probably not an original one. When I charged it full the first time, it reached a capacity (as see through the Ubuntu 12.04 Power Statistics tool) of 80%. After 3 full cycles, it's at 79.5%. Do you think it is normal, or the battery may be damaged (and I can complain with the vendor)?

  • Diagnosing 401 on new apache install

    - by KevinM
I am configuring a new box on slicehost to set it up as a webserver. I am following the steps listed at http://articles.slicehost.com/2010/5/20/installing-apache-on-debian To summarize, the steps are: sudo aptitude update sudo aptitude install apache2 sudo nano /etc/apache2/conf.d/servername.conf sudo /usr/sbin/apache2ctl graceful After completing all the steps I get a 401 when visiting the root of the site (http://67.180.210.158/). What would be the right steps to diagnose what's going on here?
