• How do I propagate an exception thrown by croak in forked child to parent/foreground process?

  Throwing an exception via croak in a forked child process seems to print the error as a background process would. That is, it clobbers the shell prompt. If I die instead of croak, the the error message pops up as a foreground process. I've trying to find out why that is in the Carp documentation without any luck. Here's what I mean. The croak version: $ perl Wrapper.pm $ error: ... does not exist at Wrapper.pm line 624 The die version: $ perl Wrapper.pm error: ... does not exist at Wrapper.pm line 515. I tried trapping the fork and printing $@ to STDERR and exiting, but that didn't have an effect. Any ideas? I'd like to be able to use croak in this particular case.

• Installing SharePoint 2010 on a dev machine with an external database

  I've been following Microsoft's guide for installing a dev environment on Windows 7: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee554869.aspx In order for it to not run like a dog I've created a SQL Server 2008 instance on our database server specifically for this dev machine. The article does mention that you might be wanting to use an external database in regard to making sure the database cumulative update is installed. It doesn't make any other mention of configuring it to use a external database. I was hoping that the configuration wizard would then prompt about which database to use but annoyingly it just set-up the configuration database locally. How do I go about installing SharePoint on a dev environment with an external database, and will I need to reformat this machine and do it all again?

• Inserting new argument to table through search form of another table

  In my database I have a form for searching products (fields : id, name, manufacturer_id[set to display manufacturer's name], category_id, price). I would like to have the ability of adding manufacturers through this form. So I've created vba script but it does not work. Still when I enter new name it gives me prompt to "Select element from the list". What am I doing wrong ? • Advice Needed on Development of ConnectionWizard Custom Control

  I have the need for an ASP.NET custom server control that will check the web.config file for a connectionstring name, prompt the user to create said connectionstring if not present, and execute create table stored procedures using the connection. This control will be embedded into a webpart for use in a WSS3.0 solution. Can anyone suggest some good tutorials on creating this type of control - specifically addressing use of connectionstrings?   I've got a sharepoint site and a custom aspx portal, both under Windows Authentication. With the same machine, it happens that my sharepoint site returning me my current login, while my custom aspx returning me my domain admin account instead. Is there anyway that I could ensure both logins are the same? Otherwise, is there anyway to consume SPUserProfileService from a custom aspx portal? Mainly, I need to have the custom aspx portal to get sharepoint logon id. Nevertheless, i could still trigger AccessDenied.aspx in sharepoint to prompt for logins.

• Scala :: operator, how it works?

  Hello Guys, in Scala, I can make a caseclass case class Foo(x:Int) and then put it in a list like so: List(Foo(42)) Now, nothing strange here. The following is strange to me. The operator :: is a function on a list, right? With any function with 1 argument in Scala, I can call it with infix notation. An example is 1 + 2 is a function (+) on the object Int. The class Foo I just defined does not have the :: operator, so how is the following possible: Foo(40) :: List(Foo(2)) ? In scala 2.8 rc1, I get the following output from the interactive prompt: scala> case class Foo(x:Int) defined class Foo scala> Foo(40) :: List(Foo(2)) res2: List[Foo] = List(Foo(40), Foo(2)) scala> I can go on and use it, but if someone can explain it I will be glad :)

  Hi, I am trying to migrate to MVC from conventional n tier applications. I am very much used to creating websites in the regular manner. But i find it difficult to adapt to MVC environemnt. Suppose there is a table products. I jus want to display the table data in a web page. I hav ROR installed and working. I have created a project by giving rails_apps rails demo The command prompt created some folders inside a folder called demo. Though i have read one or two tutorials i am not exactly clear about the working or the cycle of MVC. Can anyone please give some basic idea. I have managed to skim through the initial pages of Agile Web Development Through Rails. Also, please give me some usefull links on the net. That would really help me.

  Hello, everybody!!!! I have just successfully installed TWILL on my computer with the help of one very supportive member of "StackOverflow" (you can check it out HERE) and have tried to run one of the simple examples on the twill documentation page (you can see that page HERE). Here is that example: Let's say my username on www.slash.org is lynxye and my password is mammal. When I try to enter that exanple code into my Python prompt, I can only enter the first line of the code bexcause when I click on "Enter" to start a new line, I get some error messages right away: The same happens when I try to enter this code into my terminal: I think I miss out on some basics here. Perhaps, I need to create a file that would contain that code and then run that file somehow, but I really don't know where I need to create that file and with what extensdion. Can anyone, please, help me with this?

The website provides a live stream, and I'd like to be able to prompt viewers to select an answer during a vote initiated by the caster. I can understand how to store the data in a mySQL database, and how to process the answers. However: How would I initially start the vote on the client-side and display it? Should a script be running every few seconds on the page, checking another page to see if a question is available for the user? Are there any existing examples of a real-time polling system such as what I'm looking at implementing?

• How do you configure firefox to open an application without prompting the user?

  I've got a serverside app that send down a custom mime-type file "application/x-optibase". Firefox prompt user user to save or open the file and if the user clicks open the correct application launches so I believe I have mimeType.rdf configured correctly I've gone into about:config and set browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile to application/x-optibase and browser.helpApps.alwaysAsk.force to false According to the minimal documentation out there this should enable the application to automatically open when the user downloads the file but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

• How can I detect when the .NET Framework feature is "turned off" in Windows 7 / Vista?

  My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off on Windows Vista (also applies to Windows 7). In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework. EDIT: "Turning off" the .NET Framework in Windows Vista or Windows 7 is not the same as uninstalling it. I'm running in to some other cross-compatibility issues as well with the margin spacing so I'm not even sure this is the best way to go about this. Obviously it'd be great if I could just begin with the div as display:hidden and then animate it to visible, but I haven't been able to do that. Any input is appreciated, either with advice on how to save the margin after form submission, or suggestion on better method to achieve this hide/reveal. Thanks, Brian

• ClickOnce File will not associate on open from web browser download

  I have a ClickOnce program that associates with a given extension and that works fine if the file is located on the file system. My problem comes in when this file is downloaded from a website. I have a web handler that prompts the user to Click to download the file. Upon clicking the link the user is presenter with an Open or Save Dialog. If the user chooses Open the program will not launch. If the user saves the file to their hard drive and then clicks the file the association will work. Any advice on getting the association to work on the prompt when the user clicks Open or is a Save required? -Edit : Tested this on both IE8 and Chrome with same result.

• Can I prevent a user from using windows task manager to end a process?

  I have a c# 4.0 application that I hear grumblings and rumors about problems with. Now, this application has a global unhandled exception handler that reports back to me with errors. I also know that it works because SOME people fill it in, and submit it. It seems though; that a large number of people do NOT fill it in, but instead, use the Windows Taskmanager to end the process. Is it possible to prevent a user from using the Windows Taskmanager to end a specific process? My goal would be that if the application crashes, the form that the user is presented with prevents the process from being ended. I'll also accept steps that would prevent the Windows Taskmanager from being launched. I know I have seen some processes come up with an "Access Denied" prompt when I try to kill it in TaskManager, however I suspect that the windows team has made this very difficult, if not impossible to achieve.

  I have a large Prolog program with lots of predicates. I need to connect to this Prolog code from C++ (VS2008) to obtain certain query results. So I am not trying to embed Prolog in C++ as a logicasl engine, but for my C++ program to connect to my Prolog code, consult (compile) it, obtain query results, and pass them back to C++. Running the following command at the VS2008 Command Prompt generates so many errors: plld -o myprog.exe mycpp.cpp mypl.pl Is there any way I can get my C++ program to consult my Prolog program, by including a command or makefile, etc...? I am aware that if you use VS2008, you are better off not using plld, so I am trying to include everything in one master C++ program, then press F5 to build and compile, and then call Prolog, then C++, and so on...   I am very new to unit testing. I have been following the procedures for creating a unit test in visual studio 2012 on http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/Europe/2012/DEV214. The test just won't start. And it will prompt me "A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly. In order to debug this project, add an executable project to this solution which references the library project. Set an executable project as the startup project. Even though I attached the unit test class code to a console program, the test does not start and the test explorer is empty. In the video, it doesn't need to have any running program. The lady only created a class library, and the test will run. what should I do? Note. there is no "create unit test" on the mouse right click menu

• How to close a form in UserControl

  I created a UserControl with the buttons Save, Close and Cancel. I want to close the form without saving on the Cancel button, prompt a message to save on the Close button and Save without closing on the Save button. Normally, I would have used this.Close() on the Cancel button, but the UserControl doesn't have such an option. So I guess I have to set a property for that. Scrolling down the "Questions that may already have your answer" section, I came across this question: How to close a ChildWindow from an UserControl button loaded inside it? I used the following C# code: private void btnCancel_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ProjectInfo infoScreen = (ProjectInfo)this.Parent; infoScreen.Close(); } This does the job for one screen, but I wonder if I have to apply this code for all the screen I have? I think there should be a more efficient way. So my question is: Do I need to apply this code for every form I have, or is there another (more efficient) way?

  I am validating input on a form and attempting to prompt the user of improper input(s) based on the combination of controls used. For example, I have 2 combo boxes and 3 text boxes. The 2 combo boxes must always have a value other than the first (default) value, but one of three, or two of three, or all text boxes can be filled to make the form valid. In one such scenario I have a 6 line if statement to try to make the test easily readable: if ((!String.Equals(ComboBoxA.SelectedValue.ToString(), DEFAULT_COMBO_A_CHOICE.ToString()) && !String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBoxA.Text) && !String.Equals(ComboBoxB.SelectedValue.ToString(), DEFAULT_COMBO_B_CHOICE.ToString())) || (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBoxB.Text) || !String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBoxC.Text))) { //Do Some Validation } I have 2 questions: Should this type of if statement be avoided at all cost?   I'm trying to do something really simple but it's taking me ages to figure out how to do it properly. I want to have a button that simply deletes a member from a group. So in my view I have <div id="del-role">{{=A('Delete Role',_class="btn btn-danger", callback=URL('test'),delete='#del-role')}}</div> However, when I click the button, the only thing I get is a Javascript prompt asking whether I'm sure I want to delete the specified object, yes/no. That's fine but, what I'd really like to do is just auth.del_membership('role') What needs to go in my controller? I do not want any page redirection, I just want to auth.del_membership(role) This seemingly simple thing is taking me forever to understand. Thanks!

• "more" as a target of piped command breaks bash

  Consider following source, reduced for simplicity int main() { int d[2]; pipe(d); if(fork()) { close(1); dup(d[1]); execlp("ls", "ls", NULL); } else { close(0); dup(d[0]); execlp("cat", "cat", NULL); } } So it creates a pipe and redirects the output from ls to cat. It works perfectly fine, no problems. But change cat to more and bash breaks. The symptoms are: you don't see anything you type pressing "enter" shows up a new prompt, but not in a new line, but in the same one you can execute any command and see the output reset helps fixing things up. So there is a problem with input from keyboard, it is there, but is not visible. Why is that?
