  • 11.04 64 bit live install cd freezes immediately on boot

    I am trying to install 11.04 alpha to a free set of partitions to try it out but neither the regular graphic installer or the alternate installer work. The graphic one freezes when I try to boot the cd (or cd image on usb stick rather) with a distorted static picture of my regular desktop repeated four times. I have an nvidia 240 graphics card if that is any help in diagnosis. I think it is a matter of getting the cd image to use a low rez video mode but I have no idea how to force that. I have used both the iso's from the regular page and the daily page (for several days so far) and they all do the same thing. I have tried both the internal utility and unetbootin to set up the stick with the same results. The alternate installer seems to work up to the point of the software selection step and then throws a 'failed step' error part way through.

  • Can folks that edit tags make sure they preserve the information that they would be editing away?

    I have notice that some folks edit the tags associated with questions to make the tag more generic, like converting netbeans6.8-netbeans. I think this is a good thing. BUT, most users/askers do not include version info in the text of their question and some of them do pick the 'versioned' tag. That additional info is valuable at that point. Please read the question before you edit version info out of tags. If the version info is not in the question's text.... take another moment to edit the text of the question, so the info is immediately available to folks that are trying to answer questions.

  • Using Maven shade plugin in a multi module project

    I have a scenario where-in I need to create an uber jar of a multi module maven project including all modules and their dependencies. I tried using maven shade plugin. but it seems to work only when I use it at the module level. If I add the plugin entry in parent pom then the build breaks (it tries to shade the parent pom) [INFO] Replacing original artifact with shaded artifact. [INFO] Replacing null with C:\Projects\foo.bar\target\foobar-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT-shaded.pom [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [ERROR] BUILD ERROR [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Error creating shaded jar: null It does seem to make sense since the <packaging> for the parent maven project is pom. But there should be some way to create an uber jar for a multi module project... Any ideas people???

  • NGINX/PHP downloading instead of executing

    I have an NGINX server with fastcgi/PHP running on it. I need to add userdirs to it, but I can't get PHP to execute the files - it just asks me if I want to download it. It does work without the userdir (eg: it works on physibots.info/hugs.php, but not physibots.info/~kisses/hugs.php) Any help is greatly appreciated.     I want to get rid of this lot... public void info(String msg); public void info(String format, Object arg); public void info(String format, Object arg1, Object arg2); public void info(String format, Object[] argArray); ...and replace it with this one... public void info(String format, Object ... args); ...so that my logging syntax doesn't have to change depending on the number of arguments I want to log. There seems to be lots of discussion and work around it, but where is it? Or should I wrap the wrapper that is slf4j?

  • Forced naming of parameters in python

    In python you may have a function definition: def info(object, spacing=10, collapse=1) which could be called in any of the following ways: info(odbchelper) info(odbchelper, 12) info(odbchelper, collapse=0) info(spacing=15, object=odbchelper) thanks to python's allowing of any-order arguments, so long as they're named. The problem we're having is as some of our larger functions grow, people might be adding parameters between spacing and collapse, meaning that the wrong values may be going to parameters that aren't named. In addition sometimes it's not always clear as to what needs to go in. We're after a way to force people to name certain parameters - not just a coding standard, but ideally a flag or pydev plugin? so that in the above 4 examples, only the last would pass the check as all the parameters are named. Odds are we'll only turn it on for certain functions, but any suggestions as to how to implement this - or if it's even possible would be appreciated.

    First of all I would like to point that I'm new to Ubuntu so sorry if what I am asking is ridiculous. I have downloaded Scid 4.4 chess program and I have tried to compile it as it was explained on its website: 1) Initialize git. 2) Create a folder where you want to download and (?) compile the source, then cast: git init on your command line. 3) You're now ready to download the sources recall Fulvio's spell: git clone git://scid.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/scid/scid This should get you the latest Scid source. 4) You're now ready to compile Scid. In principle, all you need to do is: ./configure and then make 5) If you get stuck, you probably need to get developer versions of tcl/tk. This translates into issuing these three commands: sudo apt-get install tcl8.5-dev sudo apt-get install tk8.5-dev sudo apt-get install zlib1g -dev 6) You should now be ready to compile The problem is that when I run ./configure to start compiling the following message appears on Terminal: configure: Makefile configuration program for Scid Tcl/Tk version: 8.5 Your operating system is: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic Location of "tcl.h": /usr/include/tcl8.5 Location of "tk.h": /usr/include/tcl8.5 Location of Tcl 8.5 library: not found Location of Tk 8.5 library: not found Checking if your system already has zlib installed: yes.   • Ubuntu 12.10 no network and no graphics

    I recently upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 only to find out that it won't connect to any network, neither wired nor wireless and the graphics is messed up too as in a low screen resolution. For 12.04, my system was running perfectly. I don't know why upgrade messed it up so bad. Reinstalling the OS is an issue because I have set up a lot of development environments that I cannot afford to set it up again.   • Did I lose my RAID again?

    Hi! A little history: 2 years ago I was really excited to find out that mdadm is so powerful that it even can reshape arrays, so you can start with a smaller array and then grow it as you need. I've bought 3x1Tb drives and made a RAID-5. It was fine for a year. Then I bought 2x more, and tried to reshape to RAID-6 out of 5 drives, and due to some mess with superblock versions, lost all content. Had to rebuild it from scratch, but 2Tb of data were gone. Yesterday I bought 2 more drives, and this time I had everything: properly built array, UPS. I've disabled write intent map, added 2 new drives as spares and run a command to grow array to 7-disks. It started working, but speed was ridiculously slow, ~100kb/sec. After processing first 37Mb at such an amazing speed, one of old HDDs fails. I properly shutdown the PC and disconnected the failed drive. After bootup it appeared that it recreated the intent map as it was still in mdadm config, so I removed it from config and rebooted again. Now all I see is that all mdadm processes deadlock, and don't do anything. You can see my disappointment - the very specific thing I was excited about failed twice taking 5Tb of my data with it.   • Installing python-mysql with wamp's mysql

    Hello, (I'm not sure if this should be asked here or SU.. but seeing this question on SO, I am asking it here...) I have wamp (mysql-5.1.33) server setup on my vista machine, and I am trying to install python-mysql 1.2.3c1 to use the mysql version provided by wamp. At first, when I ran python setup.py install, I got an error saying it couldn't find the location of the mysql's bin folder. Looking into setup_windows.py, I noticed it was looking for a registry key and so I added that registry entry and I think it is able to find it now. But now, when I run python setup.py install, I get a different error saying Unable to find vcvarsall.bat. Any help on installing this appreciated. The ooficial API example worked just fine but if I copy the code into my own project it keeps saying: "The application has stopped unexpectedly". I need to run a process and wait till execution of process and get the output of console. There is way to set RedirectStandardOutput and RedirectStandardError to true, however this does not function well on some machines, (where .NET SDK is not installed), only .NET runtime is installed, now it works on some machines and doesnt work on some machines so we dont know where is the problem. I have following code, ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo("myapp.exe", cmd); info.CreateNoWindow = true; info.UseShellExecute = false; info.RedirectStandardError = true; info.RedirectStandardOutput = true; Process p = Process.Start(info); p.WaitForExit(); Trace.WriteLine(p.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd()); Trace.WriteLine(p.StandardError.ReadToEnd()); On some machines, this will hang forever on p.WaitForExit(), and one some machine it works correctly, the behaviour is so random and there is no clue. Now if I can get a real good workaround for this using pinvoke, I will be very happy.

  • GMail appearing to ignore Reply-To.

    I'm using a gmail account to send emails from my website. I'm using the same account to pick up emails which are generated by the contact facility on my site. I'm using the Reply-To field to attempt to make it easier to hit reply and easily get back to people. The message comes up with the 'from' address and ignores the 'reply-to' address. I want 4 general RegEx expressions for the following 4 basic cases: Up to A chars starting after B chars from start of line on up to C lines starting after D lines from start of file Up to A chars starting after B chars from start of line on up to C lines occurring before D lines from end of file Up to A chars starting before B chars from end of line on up to C lines starting after D lines from start of file Up to A chars starting before B chars from end of line on up to C lines starting before D lines from end of file These would allow to select arbitrary text blocks anywhere in the file. So far I have managed to come up with cases that only work for lines and chars separately: (?<=(?m:^[^\r]{N}))[^\r]{1,M} = UP TO M chars OF EVERY LINE, AFTER FIRST N chars [^\r]{1,M}(?=(?m:.{N}\r$)) = UP TO M chars OF EVERY LINE, BEFORE LAST N chars The above 2 expressions are for chars, and they return MANY matches (one for each line). (?<=(\A([^\r]*\r\n){N}))(?m:\n*[^\r]*\r$){1,M} = UP TO M lines AFTER FIRST N lines (((?=\r?)\n[^\r]*\r)|((?=\r?)\n[^\r]+\r?)){1,M}(?=((\n[^\r]*\r)|(\n[^\r]+\r?)){N}\Z) = UP TO M lines BEFORE LAST N lines from end These 2 expressions are equivalents for the lines, but they always return just ONE match. The task is to combine these expressions to allow for scenarios 1-4. Anyone can help? Note that the case in the title of the question, is just a subclass of scenario #1, where both B = 0 and D = 0.   • accessing parsed JSON on the iPhone SDK

    Hello All! I've been following the great tutorial about (iPhone, json and Flickr API and I did manage to access the parsed json info just fine. Now I'm trying to do the same thing with the Twitter API, and I am able to get the json info and parse it, but I can't seem to access it like in Flickr. I noticed that the json info that is retrieved from Twitter is a little different from Flickr. The Flickr json info starts straight with a curly braces ({), while the Twitter json info starts with a square bracket and then a curly braces ([{). I understand that it means it's an array inside the json info, but I don't know how to access it. In the Flickr example, I access the objects like so (the second line takes the number of pages Flickr has reported): NSDictionary *results = [jsonString JSONValue]; pagesString = [[results objectForKey:@"photos"] objectForKey:@"pages"]; but I can't seem to access the Twitter response in the same way... Does anyone know of a solution? (here's an example of the Twitter JSON response: api.twitter.com/1/statuses/public_timeline.json ) Thanks a bunch!
