    Trying to solve this problem. I would like to learn how the bootstrapper detects if prerequisites (specifically .NET 3.5) are installed. According to this reference, a way to detect if .NET is installed is to check the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5 Using process monitor, I have inspected registry queries done by the bootstrapper (setup.exe) and it did not show any access to this registry key. Does anybody know how the bootstrapper determines whether the prerequisites are installed on the target system?

I am mainly interested in knowing how and where you place different windows like the variables window, code window, the stack. Also possibly the relative size of different windows.   • Where to get working Sysinternals tools for Windows 2000?

    Yes, I know Windows 2000 will run end-of-life in this year, but we still have a lot of Windows 2000 boxes we try to migrate but no idea if all of them can be migrated this year... Recently I downloaded a new Sysinternals Suite (most recent file date 2010-03-25) and noticed that some tools just do not work on Windows 2000 any longer, which makes troubleshooting a lot harder. I checked all the tools in the suite to check which tools do not work, and dug through to find older versions that do work, but I don't know if there are more recent ones (with fewer bugs) available. I did not find any way to download old versions from Sysinternals website. :-( So here is my list: Does not work Works ADExplorer.exe 1.30.0.0 ? Coreinfo.exe 2.00 ? disk2vhd.exe 1.5.0.0 ? livekd.exe 3.14 3.0 procdump.exe 1.72 ?   • After reinstallation, Disk Cleanup disappears when I click OK.

    After I reinstalled Windows 7, Disk Cleanup stopped working. I can start Disk Cleanup and select the drive to clean, but when I click on the OK button, the window disappears. Any solutions? But a new process - WerFault.exe appeared under svchost.exe a few seconds after i clicked the "OK" button. It disappeared, too, from the process list after some time (i think it disappeared along with cleanmgr.exe).

    I'm attempting to install Team Foundation Server 2008 on a Windows Server 2003 instance that exists under Hyper-V. The SQL Server database itself is held on the root partition of the Hyper-V server and has the Reporting Services installed (so I've solved the TF220059 error already). After hitting "Next " after typing the name of the SQL Server I get this error: --------------------------- Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server Setup --------------------------- TF220056: An unrecoverable error occurred while trying to check the status of the Team Foundation database. Installation cannot continue.     Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 to 2011 Migration. I followed the Migration Guide from Microsoft and the source server had no errors when running the various tests prior to the migration. I have completed the destination server setup using the Answer File and the server is up and running. It all looks good, I can access Exchange and AD and the only problem is the error message when you log in stating that the setup did not complete and to check the logs. Because all looks good I am continuing the migration to the destination server. I also have to state that this client does not use Sharepoint at all. Do I have to redo everything? I'm trying it on a couple of test PCs, and so far i've had no luck. On each one, one update would install (and need a reboot), and nothing else since.   • Need to setup an office network, suggest some hardware?

    We have 6 windows workstations, spread out over a fairly large area. Need to share a DSL connection (upgrading to 100/100 mbit fiber in a few months) with these machines over a 1gbit network. Also need Wifi to be available for laptop use. Plan to add 2 rackmount servers for internal use as well. Can someone suggest a decent (preferably low cost) setup that will let me achieve the stuff mentioned above.

  • How do you make the Windows Components option appear in Setup Manager?

    Supposedly there is a "Windows Components" option under Advanced Settings when you run the Setup Manager (included in the \Tools\Deploy.cab from a Windows 2003 CD). I can't get this to show up. Is there a special trick? Here is a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like: http://tinypic.com/r/2rm2gau/7 When I run it, it looks exactly the same except there is no "Windows Components" option above Telephony.

  • When connecting to a unix box, how does it know you have SSH setup on your desktop?

    When you use something like putty to connect to a linux box, and you setup your SSH keys etc. When connecting, how does it tell the server that you want to connect using your SSH keys? Is SSH running as a service on a particular port or does it simply pass your private-key and then the login service sees that and tries to connect using it? Just looking for a fairly high level understanding (with maybe some detail if you want to...)

    I'm integrating PayPal on a client's site and they are not happy with the fact that their customers would have to sign up for an account before they can make a purchase. They like the price of PayPal, but don't really like the interface. Could I offer them an alternative service to PayPal that would allow me to setup a checkout page directly on their website and not require their users to create accounts?
