  • Google App Engine and Git best practices

    I'm developing a small pet project on Google App Engine and i would like to keep code under source control using github; this will allow a friend of mine to checkout and modify the sources. I just have a directory with all sources (call it PetProject) and Google App Engine development server points to that directory. Is it correct to create a repo directly from PetProject directory or is it preferable to create a second directory mirroring the develop PetProject directory? In the latter case, anytime my friend will release something new, i need to pull fetch from Git copying the modified files to the develop PetProject directory. If i decide to keep the repo inside the develop directory, skipping .git on Gae yaml is enough? What are the best practices here?

  • How to create a bold and italic label in MFC?

    Please do not mark it as a dupe of this question just yet: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1881865/bold-labels-in-mfc That question does not help me; for some reason I do not see the rich edit control. Instead I believe I have to do it in code. here is a sample I found: http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/VC/microsoft.public.vc.mfc/2006-10/msg00245.html My problem is that I prefer not to re-invent the wheel and test for errors myself or through QA. Someone must have implemented this before. Please share your code. What I would like to do is: Keep the same font size, family, etc. as in the already created label, but make it bold and italic as well. Keep the memory footprint reasonably low (do not create any new unnecessary objects), but do not get the app into an inconsistent state either. I appreciate your help.

  • TDD and UML together

    Hello, I'm new to TDD approach so I'm wondering if anyone experienced wit this could enlighten me a little. I would like to get some leads how to use UML and TDD methodology together. I've been used to: Design with UML -- Generate skeleton classes (and then keep it synchronized) - Implement and finally Test. I must admit that testing part was the worst one, so I started to look for something else - TDD. So I have some general knowledge what is it about but before I proceed further, I am interested knowing how it goes together with software design especially UML. So when I first design/create test, how can UML fit in? Would it be possible to design classes first, from them create skeleton classes, from them generate Unit tests which would be "filled" before actual implementation of UML pregenerated classes, would this approach break whole TDD? Or is there any other way that would keep UML and TDD together? Thanks everyone for answer.

  • Can obfuscation (proguard) lead to MIDlet malfunction?

    Hi, Im trying to obfuscate a Java MIDlet with proguard. It runs ok on the PC, however, when I run it on the phone, the program opens, connects to the server, and then freezes. If I disable obfuscation, it runs ok again on the phone. Ive tryed all the obfuscation levels for apps (7, 8 and 9 at NetBeans), and none of them seems to work properly, and I cant release this app for comercial use without obfuscation. Also, the compiler throws some warnings: Note: duplicate definition of library class [java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream] Note: there were 14 duplicate class definitions. But I dont know if this is realy the problem. Does anyone knows what is wrong? The obfuscator arguments are listed below: Obfuscator Arguments (7): -dontusemixedcaseclassnames -default package '' -keep public class ** { public *; } Obfuscator Arguments (8): same as (7) plus -overloadaggressively. Obfuscator Arguments (9): same as (8) but -keep public class ** extends javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet { public *; } instead. Thanks.

  • Excluding files from being deployed with Capistrano while still under version control with Git

    I want to start testing the JavaScript in my Rails apps with qUnit and I'm wondering how to keep the test JavaScript and test runner HTML page under version control (I'm using Git, of course) but keep them off the production server when I deploy the app with Capistrano. My first thought is to let Capistrano send all the code over as usual including the test files, and write a task to delete them at the end of the deployment process. This seems like sort of a hack, though. Is there a cleaner way to tell Capistrano to ignore certain parts of the repository when deploying?

    Il 26 Giugno scorso presso l’Aula Magna della Fondazione CUOA si è tentuo il workshop “L’evoluzione dei modelli e dei sistemi di analisi e reporting direzionale”, promosso dal Club Finance CUOA con la collaborazione di Oracle .  Una recente analisi di Gartner ha evidenziato che Executives Finance ed IT hanno identificato Business Intelligence, Analytics e Performance Management come tema prioritario su cui concentrare gli investimenti “tecnologici” nel 2013 confermando, se mai qualcuno ne avesse avuto bisogno, la continua e crescente attenzione delle aziende alla propria capacità di definire, produrre e gestire informazioni funzionali all’identificazione di opportunità, alla valutazione di rischi ed impatti, alla simulazione degli effetti di operazioni ordinarie e straordinarie...in un solo concetto, informazioni funzionali alla guida dell’azienda. Questo dato è ancora più interessante se incrociato con il risultato di una survey condotta da CFO Magazine e KPMG International nella quale il 48% dei CFO intervistati ha dichiarato di ritenere i propri sistemi datati ed poco flessibili, quindi un limite, se non proprio un freno, alla loro volontà di essere agenti del cambiamento. A fronte di tutto questo, le aziende dimostrano un crescente interesse a capire cosa fare, oggi e domani, per migliorare la propria capacità di sfruttare una risorsa aziendale estremamente pregiata quale l’informazione. L’    Obiettivo del workshop è quindi stato quello di analizzare in quale scenario stanno operando oggi le aziende del Nord Est Italiano verificando, grazie alle testimonianze di ITAL TBS e del Gruppo Carraro,  lo “stato di salute” dei processi di Business Analytics, il livello di cultura aziendale ed il grado di adozione di soluzioni da parte dei CFO, del Management e più in generale dei decisori aziendali, i percorsi evolutivi e prospettici per migliorare su questi temi

    Hi everybody, I'm working on a simple application that draws an alpha-blended picture on the screen's Device Context every 2 secs, I want to refresh the screen contents before the drawing operation (To erase the drawn pic), I have used many many trick but unfortunately, the screen won't refresh correctly, some regions still keep portions of the drawn pic I'm really frustrated from this issue :( These are the sources codes I have used, I'm using C# SendMessage(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOLORCHANGE, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero); // wasted time in the refreshing process is enough to keep this. UpdateWindow(HWND_BROADCAST);// does not work at all! InvalidateRect(IntPtr.Zero,IntPtr.Zero,true); // the same goes here. SendMessage(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_PAINT, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero); // pfffff !   • La Customer Satisfaction non basta più!

    La partita per la conquista della fedeltà dei clienti si gioca sempre meno sul prodotto e sempre più sul servizio. Dal momento che il consumatore di oggi è molto più evoluto e autonomo nelle scelte, il servizio deve andare ben oltre la classica interazione da Customer Service: deve rappresentare una vera e propria esperienza d’acquisto positiva. Questo è il risultato, che poi è una conferma, di Oracle Customer Experience Index, una ricerca che Oracle ha commissionato alla società LoudHouse la quale ha raccolto le opinioni di 1400 consumatori europei, di cui 200 italiani. Addirittura, l'81% di chi fa acquisti sarebbe disposto a pagare di più per una migliore customer experience. Un risultato non banale che la dice lunga su quanto il consumatore oggi sia evoluto e pretenda molto dall’azienda con la quale sta interagendo. Il 70% di coloro che hanno risposto al questionario afferma che se l’esperienza d’acquisto fosse negativa smetterebbe di rivolgersi a una determinata azienda e il 92% di questi comprerebbe da un concorrente. Ecco perchè il Customer Service non è più sufficiente, l’esperienza d’acquisto deve essere a 360° a partire dall’approccio al sito web per acquisire informazioni, all’analisi delle interazioni sui social media, fino alla consistenza delle informazioni e delle risposte che vengono fornite attraverso tutti i canali sia fisici sia virtuali. Per far questo Oracle ha dato vita a un’insieme di soluzioni che ha chiamato proprio Customer Experience Suite e spaziano dalla creazione di siti web evoluti, alla possibilità di fare Intelligence sui Social Media, alla capacità di creare un proficuo dialogo con i clienti in fase di postvendita.   • What are the ways to do synchronized streaming video and text?

    I would like to have two streams. One being traditional streaming video and another being text. I will also build an interface that allows the user to create the text portion while watching the video. The context of these videos are usually that of an individual being filmed doing a presentation and later the next day for example, a coach will make text annotations (structured data is a plus) with the result being the text stream. It seems this is possible with Silverlight (see the article in the latest MSDN). However, what other methods are there if any? If there any, please give the reasons for why you are recommending them. Thanks. Also, I would prefer something that inst a software as a service hosted solution, but, dont let that keep you from giving an answer. Also keep in mind, the user shouldn't have to do any re-encoding of the video source, the text stream should be separate with someway to synchronize a coach's comments to an arbitrary time stamp in the video.

The Question is: As a programmer you have to keep yourself up to date with the latest technologies and for that every programmer will generally follow some technology blogs and some social networking sites like (twitter, FB, SO, DZONE etc), how to keep your self focused on the things and still want to follow the technology trends?   • DataAdapter Select string from base table schema?

    When I built my .xsd, I had to choose the columns for each table, and it made a schema for the tables, right? So how can I get that Select string to use as a base Select command for new instances of dataadapters, and then just append a Where and OrderBy clause to it as needed? That would keep me from having to keep each DataAdapter's field list (for the same table) in synch with the schema of that table in the .xsd file. Isn't it common to have several DataAdapters that work on a certain table schema, but with different params in the Where and OrderBy clauses? Surely one does not have to maintain (or even redundently build) the field list part of the Select strings for half a dozen DataAdapters that all work off of the same table schema. I'm envisioning something like this pseudo code: BaseSelectString = MyTypedDataSet.JobsTable.GetSelectStringFromSchema() // Is there such a method or technique? WhereClause = " Where SomeField = @Param1 and SomeOtherField = @Param2" OrderByClause = " Order By Field1, Field2" SelectString=BaseSelectString + WhereClause + OrderByClause OleDbDataAdapter adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(SelectString, MyConn)

  • My code works in Debug mode, but not in Release mode.

    Hi, I have a code in Visual Studio 2008 in C++ that works with files just by fopen and fclose. Everything works perfect in Debug mode. and I have tested with several datasets. But it doesn't work in release mode. It crashes all the time. I have turned off all the optimizations, also there is no dependency to anything(in the linker), and also I have set these: Optimization: Disabled(/Od) Keep Unreferenced Data. Do Not Remove Redundant Optimize for Windows98: NO I still keep wondering how it should not work under these circumstances. What else should I turn off to let it works as in debug mode? I think if it works in release mode but not in debug mode, it might be a coding fault but the other way looks weird. isn't it? I appreciate any help. --Nima

  • No network packets sent immediately after quick physical disconnect and reconnect.

    I am using Boost's ASIO libraries to establish a UDP connection to a remote server. To make sure the connection is active, every second a keep-alive message is sent to the server. I have noticed that if I unplug the network cable and reinsert it quickly, the first 2 or 3 keep-alive messages after the reinsert are never sent. I tested this by running wire-shark on the server. I have seen it take up to 5 seconds before the client starts sending out network traffic again. The client is running under Linux (2.6.2), if that helps.

Strategie per progettare un Servizio eccellente e profittevole." che ha visto il contributo del gruppo di ricerca CELS (Research Group on Industrial Engineering, Logistics and Service Operations) e della sezione ASAP SMF dell’Università degli Studi di Bergamo. Giuditta Pezzotta (PhD - Cels) e Roberto Pinto (PhD - Cels) ci hanno presentato la Service Engineering Methodology (SEEM), innovativa piattaforma metodologica che permette di ottimizzare la creazione di valore sia per il cliente finale sia per l’azienda, partendo dalla progettazione del prodotto e arrivando alla progettazione della soluzione prodotto-servizio, e valutando la bontà del prodotto-servizio ipotizzato attraverso strumenti concettuali e di simulazione dei processi. Armando Janigro, CX Strategy Director EMEA - Oracle ha invece parlato di Modern Customer Service, ovvero di come adattarsi in modo agile e veloce alle mutevoli necessità dei clienti, ipotizzando l’adozione in chiave strategica di nuovi strumenti di differenziazione e di leadership come la Customer Experience (CX) e sfruttando le nuove dinamiche di relazione azienda-singolo consumatore per ottimizzare l’esperienza multicanale e per render più efficiente il Customer Service, creando ulteriore valore. A seguire è stata mostrata da PierLuigi Coli, Principal Sales Consultant - Oracle, una demo sui prodotti Service Cloud offerti da Oracle, a supporto di tutti i concetti raccontati nelle sessioni precedenti.   • Why does 'top' say my machine is only 50% idle?

  • Odd results when searching for numbers using IXSSO.Query

    Hi, from classic asp on Windows 2008, using an IXSSO.Query, when searching for a string of numbers, for example 10000000001, I receive results that also include variations to this, like 10000000002 10000000003 and so on. If I change the first digit so the search string is 20000000001 I dont get anything. If I keep moving the last digit from my first example to the left, I keep getting hits until I reach the half way point when I get no results! So in other words 10000020000 will return results like in the first example but 10000200000 does not. This all sounds like to me that its doing a match on the first 6 characters and it ignores the rest...   • Design Patterns: What's the antithesis of Front Controller?

    I'm familiar with the Front Controller pattern, in which all events/requests are processed through a single centralized controller. But what would you call it when you wish to keep the various parts of an application separate at the presentation layer as well? My first thought was "Facade" but it turns out that's something entirely different. In my particular case, I'm converting an application from a sprawling procedural mess to a clean MVC architecture, but it's a long-term process -- we need to keep things separated as much as possible to facilitate a slow integration with the rest of the system. Our application is web-based, built in PHP, so for instance, we have an "index.php" and an IndexController, a "account.php" and an AccountController, a "dashboard.php" and DashboardController, and so on.

  • Store data for songs MySQL DB

    I'm storing a huge set of songs in a MySQL database. This is what I store in the 'songs' table: CREATE TABLE `songs` ( `song_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `song_artist` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `song_track` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `song_mix` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `song_title` text NOT NULL, `song_hash` varchar(40) NOT NULL, `song_addtime` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `song_source` text NOT NULL, `song_file` varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`song_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=1857 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 Now I'd like to keep track of how many plays each song has, and other song-specific data that relates to the song. I don't want to keep adding fields to the 'songs' table for this. How can I store song related data a more efficient way? What's the best practice here?

  • Should I trust Redis for data integrity?

    In my current project, I have PostgreSQL as my master DB, and Redis as kind of a slave, e.g., when some user adds another as a friend, first the relationship will be stored in PostgreSQL and then a friend list in Redis will be updated. When some user's friend list is requested, it will be pulled out of Redis instead of PostgreSQL. The question is: when I update the friend list in Redis, should I get a fresh copy outof PostgreSQL, and replace the old list in Redis with the new one or should I keep the old list and simply SADD the userid into the list? The latter is of course best for performance, but intuitively the former does a better job in keep the data integrity? And if something like Celery is used, is the second method worth the risk?
