  • Setting up Shibboleth to secure part of a website

    I've installed the Shibboleth module for apache on Ubuntu 10.04 using aptitude to install libapache2-mod-shib2 as per https://groups.google.com/group/shibboleth-users/browse_thread/thread/9fca3b2af04d5ca8?pli=1 and enabled the module (I have checked in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled) I then proceeded to secure a directory on the server by placing a .htaccess file with the following directives: AuthType shibboleth ShibRequestSetting requireSession 1 Require valid-user Now - I haven't set up an SSL host yet - and I also haven't set up the IdP - but I would expect that the server would block access to this directory - but I'm getting the content without any problems. I have restarted the apache service and I have no errors in the log files.

  • Why can't I access a particular website even though the server appears to be available

    I can't access http://www.lynda.com/ with any of my browsers on my home network. By checking http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/, I can see that the server is up and I can access it via a proxy like TOR. This screen appears immediately after I type the page in It doesn't even try to load the page, it seems. Though when I ping the server I get this: I tried to do ipconfig /flushdns. But it didn't help either. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Own server, multiple website: most secure PHP setup

    Hi there, We have a company server with a variety of websites. They are maintained by different people from within our company. All websites are public. The server access is limited to our company only. This is NOT a shared hosting environment. We are looking into securing the server, currently analyzing the risk related to permissions of files. We feel the highest risk is when files are uploaded and then opened/executed by the public. This should not happen, but an error in a script might allow people to do so (there are image uploaders, file uploaders, etc). Uploader scripts use PHP. So the question is: what is the best way of setting / organizing permissions of files and processes? There seem to be several options to run PHP (and Apache), and setting the permissions. What should we take into consideration? Any tips? We are considering mod_php and FastCGI, but perhaps given our situation other solutions are preferred?

  • Website loading until initial script finishes

    Hi, i have a highly used server (running plesk). I have some long scripts that take a while to process (huge mysql database). I have found then in 1 browser, i run the script and while it is loading i cannot view any other parts of the site until the script finishes, it seems that all the requests go off, but they don't get served until the initial script finishes. i thought this may be a server wide issue, but it is not. If i use another computer i can view the site fine, even on the same computer with a different browser i can navigate fine, while the script still loads. I think it much limit the number of requests per session. Is this correct? is there any way to configure this to allow for 2-3 other requests per session? It is really bad that when i am on the phone to a client, i have just run a long report, but cannot use the site or follow what they are saying until the page has loaded? Chris

    I am running Ubuntu Server 9.10 with ProFTPD, and I also have Webmin. I have DNS setup for 3 domains, mail setup for 3 domains, as well as Apache2 setup for those domains. They work great. Now I want to give FTP access for an incoming user, but point them to /var/www/[domain] and have them come in as something like user "ftpuser" but want this to translate to user "www-data" so that web permissions will be correct. What is the technique to do this?

  • Enable live streaming on website

    I have a server colocated in a datacentre (dedicated 1Gbit line, SSDs, etc.) running CentOS 5.4 64-bit. I want to stream live video from a device (webcam, camcorder, whatever.) to my server which inturn can re-broadcast it on demand through a flash player (such as Flowplayer) so that more users will be able to watch the stream since the server is quite fast. Does a solution like this exist already (streaming software from live source to flash media server) or will I need to hire someone to code it? I see that VLC has an option to stream video.. will that be suitable in this case? Or is there a better way to do it? I don't want a browser based solution on my end. It'll be great if this can be done without running an X server but I don't mind either way. This will be running on a dedicated PC at home.

  • Denying access to website via htaccess based on http header

    I've been trying for ages to get this to work and I can't put my finger on it. What I'm trying to do is block access to a site from a number of countries, based on the CF-IPCountry header added by CloudFlare. I figured htaccess was a suitable way to do this. We are running LiteSpeed 4.2.4 on top of DirectAdmin for a control panel. The problem we having is the htaccess rule doesn't seem to do anything. Here's the rule we tried: SetEnvIf CF-IPCountry AU UnwantedCountry=1 Order allow,deny Deny from env=UnwantedCountry Allow from all That makes no difference at all, connections are still accepted. Just to check that the rule was at least being processed, I changed Allow from all to Deny from all, and connections were refused. So it appears to be a problem wit the variable. Here's the relevant headers that come in with the request.     We have a Java web application deployed on Tomcat. We also setup Apache and mod_proxy_ajp to route web requests (port 80/443) to Tomcat. We would like to deploy a PHP application on the same Apache server - probably under a subdirectory (/var/www/ourapp). Now we would like to access & display web pages from PHP application within web pages generated by Java application. Planning to implement Single Sign-on as well. Example: Web page from java has (JQuery Tabs) and we like to display the PHP web page within a tab while all other HTML comes from java application. Can you please give a overall picture of how to proceed about this? Mainly 1. how we should install/setup our PHP application on same Apache server which is used to route web requests to Tomcat? i.e. either setup sub domain or install in sub directory 2. How to bring PHP pages into present web pages (generated by java). Can we use AJAX requests or should go for Java PHP Bridge/ Querces such applications? Thank you for your time in advance. Regards.

  • Website hosted on IIS is not accessbile

    I have two sites set up in IIS on a remote machine RM; one on regular port 80, and the other on port 5773. From my local machine LM, I can access the site on 80, but I cannot access the one on 5773; I get a status code of 502 and an error code of 10060 (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond) when I try to do this. I can access the 5773 site via IIS when I am logged into RM (i.e. by right clicking on a page on the site and going 'Browse'). I can also access pages on the 5773 site via a browser, again when I am logged into RM. I just can't do the same via a browser when I am logged into LM. I have ensured that port 5773 is open for outgoing traffic on LM. Could the problem be that I also need to ensure that port 5773 is open for inbound traffic on RM?

    When I attempt to download this file, sometimes it only downloads about 700KB (the file is 40MB) then I get the message that the download is complete. If I try to download the file again, it works properly. The problem seems prevalent in IE, although I've had it happen in Chrome sometimes too. I have the following code: <input type="button" value="Agree to Terms and Download" onClick="location.href='/downloads/setup.exe';" /> If it matters, this is over a secure connection. I also tried zipping the file, and had the same issues.

  • apache/debian squeeze server loading directory listing instead of website

    when you navigate to mywebsite.com/ you see an apache page showing a folder called mywebsite.com/, clicking there then takes me to mywebsite.com/mywebiste.com which doesn't exist, so wordpress shows me the a 404 error. I'm not very popular with hosting, but I have a special situation: I live in Tunisia, I can buy a domain name with .tn extention, but the problem is that: 1- The domain could not be pointed to a server outside Tunisia 2- All servers in Tunisia are bad, no one provides really reliable hosting so, I want to use the .tn domain with a basic hosting in Tunisia, and Make other db queries and rich media on another remote server outside Tunisia. How to do it? Is there better alternatives? All suggestions are welcome :) Thank you.

  • website connection reset on first load

  • GIT Website Deployment

    I am attempting to setup GIT to deploy my project to different locations based on the branch. (I think this is what I want to do anyway). My current setup is this: Local dev machine running Netbeans to make changes. Remote server hosting GIT projects (same server running apache) - 2 subsites exist a test.FQDN.com and a live.FQDN.com What I would like to do is have 1 GIT project (MyProject) and create a new feature branch. Any commits done to the new feature branch would push to test.FQDN.com. Once the features have been tested and then merged into the master branch, it would push to live.FQDN.com. I have looked at GIT's post-receive hooks and was able to use "git checkout -f" command to pull on the test.FQDN.com site however that only pulls the master branch and not the new feature branch. I do not have any funding to use a third party to make this work, and would prefer to stay within GIT but have full root access to the web server if there is a package to install which would help control this. Any suggestions would be great!
