• ASP.NET MVC 2: Custom client side validation rule for dropdowns

  I have some custom validation that I need to perform that involves checking the selected option of a dropdown and flagging it as invalid should the user select a specific option. I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 and have a custom Validator and custom server side and client side validation rules as described in this blog article. The server side validation is working fine, however, the client side validation is failing. Here is the javascript validation rule: Sys.Mvc.ValidatorRegistry.validators["badValue"] = function(rule) { var badValue = rule.ValidationParameters["badValue"]; return function(value, context) { if (value != badValue) { return true; } return rule.ErrorMessage; }; }; The rule is being applied to the dropdowns successfully, and placing a breakpoint within the returned function confirms that the validation is firing, and that the 'badValue' is being correctly set. However, 'value' is always null, and so the check always fails. What am I doing wrong?

• Looking Back at PASS Summit 2013 - Location

  Now that it has been a few weeks since the Summit, I wanted to look back at the location "experiment". Convention Center - It seemed to work well for the conference. There were quite a few areas in the area where you could sit down and get some work down or have a discussion. For the larger welcome reception the first night, I really liked the different areas.   I am starting to get a grip on RegEx thanks to all the great help here on SO with my other questions. But I am still suck on this one: My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); I am reading in a text file and I want to search for this text and change it (the X and Y value always follow each other in my text file): X17.8Y-1. But this text can also be X16.1Y2.3 (the values will always be different after X and Y) I want to change it to this X17.8Y-1.G54 or X(value)Y(value)G54 My RegEx statement follows but it is not working. content = Regex.Replace(content, @"(X(?:\d*\.)?\d+)*(Y(?:\d*\.)?\d+)", "$1$2G54"); Can someone please modify it for me so it works and will search for X(wildcard) Y(Wildcard) and replace it with X(value)Y(value)G54?

This was the one that was five minutes, in which I explained Collation using examples comparing US English, UK English and Australian English. At the end, I showed my Arsenal thongs. After the recordings became available, I asked the PASS legal people, and they said I could do what I liked with my own five-minute set, so long as I didn’t sell it. So I made an MP3. • X technology is dead

  Every so often, technology pundits (i.e. people not involved in the game, but who like commenting about it) throw out big controversial statements (typically to increase their readership), with a common one being that "Technology/platform X is dead". My former colleague (who I guess is now my distant colleague) uses the same trick with his blog post: "iPhone 4 is dead". But, his motivation is to set the record straight (and I believe him) by sharing his opinion on recent commentary around Silverlight, WPF etc. I enjoyed his post and the comments, so I hope you do too :-) Comments about this post welcome at the original blog.

• Selecting data from SQL Server table according to Month

  I have to come up with a way to get data from a SQL server table given it's month There's a smalldatetime type field called "date" in the "events" table and a field from it looks like this: 29/01/2003 17:00:00 It should be one among those that appear in the gridview when I select jan/03 in a given DropDownList control in ASP.NET. What would be the best way to do this? Assuming I only want to go as long as 10 years to the past, wouldn't making a dictionary be a good way? How do I change it so the top month is always the current, and each month another options appeaars in the dropdown ? It should be a common issue, so that shall not be a trick, but I want a good and clean way of doing this, and (since I'm new to asp.net) I myself would come up with something messy after a long time trying. So what I want is: -Select -Best way of populating DropDownList (with the current month always at the top) -Best way to bind the DropDownList user-friendly way of writing months to the select query-friendly way of writing datetimes Info: ASP.NET, (C# or VB.NET), SQL Server 2005

• Is there ever a reason to use Goto in modern .NET code?

I always held MS coders in fairly high regard and while I may not have agreed with all of their decisions, I always respected their reasoning. So - is there a good reason for code like this that I'm missing, or was this code extract just put together by a shitty developer? I'm hoping there is a good reason, and I'm just blindly missing it. My company is looking to hire a company or individual to work on our SEO. Does anyone here know of an SEO company or individual that has had good results in the past with getting a website to the front of Google, and preferably to the number 1 spot on Google? • TcpListener.Start() does not open the port

  Hello, I have a class that inherits from the TcpListener, this class Shadows the Start method just to call the base Start() and the base BeginAcceptTcpClient(). From time to time the method is called but the port is not opened (netstat does not show the port open). The class looks like this Public Class ExtendedTcpListener Inherits System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener Public Shadows Sub Start() SyncLock (m_stopLock) MyBase.Start() MyBase.BeginAcceptTcpClient(AddressOf Me.CompleteAcceptTcpClient, Me) My.Application.Log.WriteEntry("Extended Tcp Listener started ...", TraceEventType.Verbose) End SyncLock End Sub Any idea on what's happening or how to debug the issue? As the Start() is called without exception I expected to find the port always opened (the log is always written). Extra information: when the Start method works fine it works each time until app is restarted. When the Start method does not work it won't work again until the app is restarted.

• WPF - Make two controls the same size

  Is there any way to make two controls that are in different containers the same size in WPF? For example, suppose you have two textboxes: textbox1 and textbox2. Textbox1 is in a grid and its size can grow and shrink when the user resizes the window. Textbox2 is in another part of the window and I need it to always have the same size as textbox1. Is there any way to do this? Keep in mind SharedSizeGroup will not work because the textboxes are in different containers. Also, I've tried binding textbox2's height property to textbox1 and that doesn't seem to work either. Finally, I tried catching textbox1's SizeChanged event, but its Height property is always NaN for some reason.

• Sony Vaio Webcam

  I have a in-built webcam in my Sony Vaio VGN-FE21M. lsusb shows me the device Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0ac8:c002 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC1 and it is working within Skype most of the time. Sometimes, however, lsusb shows me the exact same output, but trying to test my cam in v4l2ucp I get the error Unable to open file /dev/video0 No such file or directory A reboot fixes the problem but I just can't pinpoint what the difference is between a working and a not working webcam and the time/instance this occurs. It would probably be a fix if i could unmount and remount the cam, but how can I do this with in-built devices? Any other advice is welcome as well.

• Extra buttons on Razer Anansi on Ubuntu 13.04

  I own a Razer Anansi keyboard and recently installed 13.04 after running 12.04 for over a year. On 12.04 I used xmodmap to map the thumb and macro keys to do useful stuff for me. This solution is based on keycodes which are triggered when a key is recognized. The problem is that on 13.04 this does not work for all keys anymore. The thumb keys T2, T3 and T4 (i.e. the middle 3 ones on the top of the 2 rows) in particular don't generate keycodes anymore while the rest still does. Now this is not completely surprising: pressing the affected keys in Unity generates notifications for what looks like Unity touchpad notifications. How can I shut that touchpad-subsystem up once and for all and give my keyboard keys back to my keyboard? Ideally I'd like to be able to use my .Xmodmap file again in 13.04 (and beyond) as that seems to me the most simple solution, but working alternatives are also welcome.

• Frozen table header inside scrollable div

  I've three divs. Header, central and footer. There is a table in central div (gridview) which is almost always longer than outer div. So I've made this div scrollable vertically. The question is: how can I make table header that it would be visible after div is scrolled down? I could have done this header with separate div or table and make it fixed but widths of columns in the table are not always the same - so I don't know how to maintain widths of columns in header then. Any clue?

• OracleWebLogic YouTube Channel

  James Bayer and I have been working on content for an Oracle WebLogic YouTube channel to host demos and overview of WebLogic features.  The goal is to provide short educational overviews and demos of new, useful, or 'hidden gem' WLS features that may be underutilized.  We currently have 26 videos including Advanced JMS features, WLST and JRockit Mission Control.  We also have a few videos about our JRockit Virtual Edition software that is pretty neat. • What Web Technology to use?

  Hey guys, I would like to start a project and I am concerning what kind of programming language/web framework to use. There is not that much logic involved. It's about a community-page with a lot of users(not that much at the beginning but I would like to be ready to welcome a lot), that should be able to communicate through private messages and a forum and there will be a lot of content (news, articles) to consume. I also want to provide several authorization settings to provide some content for only specific people. In fact it's about a content management system, but I want to design it functionally myself. And I want to use some external APIs. The only website I can think of with almost similar functionality is pokerstrategy.com. I looked up their job offers and it seems like they use java and php Maybe you guys can give me your thoughts. What would you use to encounter that requirements and how would you apprach? Thank you

• Alpha blending without depth writing

  A recurring problem I get is this one: given two different billboard sets with alpha textures intended to create particle special effects (such as point lights and smoke puffs), rendering them correctly is tedious. The issue arising in this scenario is that there's no way to use depth writing and make certain billboards obey depth information as they appear in front of others that are clearly closer to the camera. I've described the problem on the Ogre forums several times without any suggestions being given (since the application I'm writing uses their engine). What could be done then? sort all individual billboards from different billboard sets to avoid writing the depth and still have nice alpha blended results? If yes, please do point out some resources to start with in the frames of the aforementioned Ogre engine. Any other suggestions are welcome!

• In the Groove: PASS Board Year 1, Q3

  It's nine months into my first year on the PASS Board and I feel like I've found my rhythm. I've accomplished one of the goals I set out for the year and have made progress on others. Here's a recap of the last few months. Anti-Harassment Policy & Process Completed In April I began work on a Code of Conduct for the PASS Summit. The Board had several good discussions and various PASS members provided feedback. You can read more about that in this blog post. Since the document was focused on issues of harassment we renamed it the "Anti-Harassment Policy " and it was approved by the Board in August. The next step was to refine the guideliness and process for enforcement of the AHP. A subcommittee worked on this and presented an update to the Board at the September meeting. You can read more about that in this post, and you can find the process document here. Global Growth Expanding PASS' reach and making the organization relevant to SQL Server communities around the world has been a focus of the Board's work in 2012. We took the Global Growth initiative out to the community for feedback, and everyone on the Board participated, via Twitter chats, Town Hall meetings, feedback forums and in-person discussions. This community participation helped shape and refine our plans. Implementing the vision for Global Growth goes across all portfolios. The Virtual Chapters are well-positioned to help the organization move forward in this area. One outcome of the Global Growth discussions with the community is the expansion of two of the VCs from country-specific to language-specific. Thanks to the leadership in Brazil & Mexico for taking the lead here. I look forward to continued success for the Portuguese- and Spanish-language Virtual Chapters. Together with the Global Chinese VC PASS is off to a good start in making the VC's truly global. Virtual Chapters The VCs continue to grow and expand. Volunteers recently rebooted the Azure and Virutalization VCs, and a new  Education VC will be launching soon. Every week VCs offer excellent free training on a variety of topics. It's the dedication of the VC leaders and volunteers that make all this possible and I thank them for it. Board meeting The Board had an in-person meeting in September in San Diego, CA.. As usual we covered a number of topics including governance changes to support Global Growth, the upcoming Summit, 2013 events and the (then) upcoming PASS election. Next Up Much of the last couple of months has been focused on preparing for the PASS Summit in Seattle Nov. 6-9. • Prevent Ruby on Rails from sending the session header

  How do I prevent Rails from always sending the session header (Set-Cookie). This is a security problem if the application also sends the Cache-Control: public header. My application touches (but does not modify) the session hash in some/most actions. These pages display no private content so I want them to be cacheable - but Rails always sends the cookie header, no matter if the sent session hash is different from the previous or not. What I want to achieve is to only send the hash if it is different from the one received from the client. How can you do that? And probably that fix should also go into official Rails release? What do you think?

• Doing 64 bit manipulation using 32 bit data in Fixed point arithmetic using C.

  Hi, I am stuck with a problem. I am working on a hardware which only does support 32 bit operations. sizeof(int64_t) is 4. Sizeof(int) is 4. and I am porting an application which assumes size of int64_t to be 8 bytes. The problem is it has this macro BIG_MULL(a,b) ( (int64_t)(a) * (int64_t)(b) 23) The result is always a 32 bit integer but since my system doesn't support 64 bit operation, it always return me the LSB of the operation, rounding of all the results making my system crash. • How do I get adobe flash working in Chrome or Chromium on Ringtail?

  I have recently upgraded to Ringtail and for some reason flash isn't working on either Chrome or Chromium. It works in firefox but I prefer Chrome as my browser so switching to firefox when a website containing flash appears is a bit annoying. According to just about every source, flash it built into Chrome and should just work even on Ubuntu. I tried removing chrome and reinstalling it, but the problem persists. I've checked about://plugins and flash is enabled. Yet when you visit http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ What I see is "No plugin available to display this content". about://version shows Google Chrome 28.0.1500.52 (Official Build 207119) OS Linux Blink 537.36 (@152651) JavaScript V8 3.18.5.8 Flash 11.7.700.203 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/28.0.1500.52 Safari/537.36 Command Line /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --blacklist-accelerated-compositing --flag-switches-begin --enable-sync-favicons --sync-keystore-encryption --flag-switches-end Executable Path /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome How do I get flash working in Chrome or Chromium?
