  • Does a mini PCIe SSD fit into a Acer Aspire One?

    Question: What, if any, mini PCIe SSDs fit into the mini PCIe slot of the Acer Aspire one AOD250? Info: I have an Aspire One and I've been considering loading it with an SSD. The mini PCIe drives fascinate me and so I want to try that approach. Also they tend to be cheaper and not much slower. (at least not on Read time which matters more for a netbook) But I've heard that some times computers don't support certain mini PCIe cards. And I was wondering if anyone knew about the Aspire One? I tried asking Acer tech support, but they didn't know jack and spent the whole time informing that I would have to support my Ubuntu install on my own, which I was. Anyway. Rant Aside, I'm looking at this drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820183252 It states it is exclusively for the Eee PC. now does that mean It was designed for the Eee PC but will work in my netbook. or is something going to go wrong? (like right now my concern is it physically not fitting.) Any information would be appreciated. o7

  • Is there a program to show programs loading during the boot process in real time?

    Hi all, There are any number of programs that will show me WHAT will run during the boot process for Windows XP. I've always been partial to Mike Lin's version but there are several others, some of which are quite possibly superior. That's not the issue. What I'd really like is a program that would load first and then would list the programs that were about to load and then check them off as the programs loaded. This isn't something I necessarily need for myself. But certain family members get click happy as soon as they see the icon they eventually want to run and end up clicking on it. THIRTY TWO TIMES in one memorable crash-inducing spasm. If there was some way for 'progress' to be shown during the loading of from the various spots Windows auto-loads from, PLUS a BIG BANNER saying "Please do not move the mouse or click on anything until done.", I think I might cut down on my early morning family support calls significantly. I've tried a variety of searches, but I couldn't find the ones that show in real time in the forest of links to programs that will show the list after the fact. Any leads? If not, do any of you who write the after-the-fact listers want to take a shot at producing a utility to do what I think would be a relatively popular utility?     Hi, I've recently got a free smart power electric energy monitor from my electric provider (npower, in the UK). While it is quite good i would like to pull the information from the monitor onto my home server, so i can get more detailed information and maybe graph it using mrtg or similar. Has anyone every tinkered about with them, how do the monitor and the display talk to each other (bluetooth/wifi) and any other info people might have. cheers Luke

  • Excel - Linking multiple source spreadsheets with variable amounts of rows to a destination spreadsh

    I have multiple source spreadsheets, each with a variable number of rows. An example might be one spreadsheet per bank account, with one row for each transaction, with a date and amount. One spreadsheet might have 30 rows, the other 50, and so on. I want to create another spreadsheet which links to the various source spreadsheets and lists an aggregate of all transactions from all sources. So if 3 source sheets with 30, 50 and 20 rows respectively, the destination sheet would have 100 rows. The number of rows (transactions) in the source sheets can grow or shrink over time. I'd like the destination sheet to show one contiguous list of transactions without gaps (spaces). How can I do this?

  • I am not seeing named session in gnu screen

    I am tying to learn gnu screen. I am using mac(snow leopard). I am running 4.00.03 version of screen. I am starting a new screen with following command screen -S foo However after that if I do ctrl + A + " then I see the list of screens. However all the lists have numbers and then bash. Because all it says is 'bash' I can't figure out which screen has what. Am I missing something?

  • ffmpeg video4linux2 at specified resolution

    When I'm trying to record a clip from my webcam, using: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -s 640x480 -i /dev/video0 /tmp/spam.avi I get annoying problem with very low resolution video, and there is a message from ffmpeg saying: [video4linux2,v4l2 @ 0x2bff3e0] The V4L2 driver changed the video from 800x600 to 176x144 I have tried not specifying -s, or trying other sizes like 800x600, and always it forces me back to 176x144. Why is this and how can I prevent it?     This is a crucial question to many: Searching the web, I have found several command line tools that allow you to convert a HTML-document to a PDF-document, however they all seem to use their own, and rather incomplete rendering engine, resulting in poor quality How can you print the rendered output of a modern web-browser to pdf, (and/or svg) whilst retaining as much vector graphics as possible? There is a solution called: webkit-pdf (which renders everything to bitmap graphics) I am looking for options, alternatives, suggestions perhaps even a printer-driver or webservices? Thanks

  • Can I copy my Windows recovery partition to a usb and boot from it?

    Of course it's not quite this easy, but are there steps for doing this sort of thing? It's a long story but I was dual-booting linux and had a system meltdown of sorts. As such, my Windows bootloader has been erased and I cannot boot into that OS. I do, however, have a linux live-usb through which I have access to my drives. Is there anyway to make use of this recovery partition and boot from itto re-install Windows?

  • Mac OS X : Open up 3 terminals, run different commands from all for each of them, to set up a develo

    I'm a Ruby on Rails Web Developer and there is a lot of repetition I go through to start up my development environment. I was wondering if there is any way that I can remove some of this repetition by writing a script, or using a program (like quicksilver) or something to get my work environment going. I know how to use quicksilver to open up terminal, and I even have a saved window group to get my 3 or 4 panes open. The next thing I would love to automatically happen is getting all three to goto a certain directory, and each run different commands. One will start the local server, and in another tab, start a background process. the other would open text mate, and then start a console session, while the last one runs a svn(or git) status. Oh yah, and I would love to go ahead and open firefox, and a few tabs going to a couple of locations. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could make all this happen in once quicksilver command, or a double click on some type of script on my Desktop?

  • Bootcamp's "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys" switches back automatically

    I use Windows 7 in a Bootcamp partition on my iMac. I always check the option "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys", and when it's checked, everything works great. But recently, something switches this setting back to 'unchecked' every few minutes. I constantly have to open the Boot Camp Control Panel, uncheck the checkbox, check it again and click on 'Apply'. And five minutes later, the F2 key again controls the brightness of the screen and not the renaming of files in Explorer. This is driving me mad. What could be the cause of this? Is there a keystroke to switch this feature?

  • Lock System when certain hardware is removed

    Hi all, I am working at a company where you are suppused to lock your screen whenever you leave your desk alone for a few minutes. Now I wondered if there is a nifty little tool that would lock my screen once a certain device is removed from the system. The ideal thing would of course be to have a short-range transmitter that causes the screen to be locked once it goes out of range. But for now I would also stick with removing a pen-drive from my laptop. I am pretty sure this is feasible. I just wan't to know if there are any preexistent projects.

  • Kaspersky AV is slowing down my connection significantly

    Hi, I'm using Kaspersky AV 2010, and I've noticed recently in Firefox (DownThemAll download manager) that my download speed has been significantly reduced after installing Kaspersky (from 450 kb/s to 30 kb/s!!). I can solve the issue temporarily by pausing protection and then resuming it again. But it's getting frustrating since I have to do this every few hours. Also another issue I have with the AV (which could be related) is that it forces all network traffic to go through it! (Nod32 didnt do that). Any idea what could be causing this? Your help is much appreciated

    Does anyone know what the magic URL is for rebooting a WebSTAR DPC2100R2 with curl? I used to have a SurfBoard, and the curl command: curl http://192.168.100.1/reset.htm?reset_modem=Restart%20Cable%20Modem Would reset the modem. Sure, I can go power cycle it manually, but it's in the basement and I'm lazy :-). I did find out the URL to elevate the access permission, but nothing about rebooting/resetting yet.

    I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) Netbook Remix in my Asus Aspire One. My default browser is Firefox and I am using Chrome for Google search in incognito mode. I want to start Chrome in incognito mode by default. I know that I need to use the following command to start the Chrome in incognito mode by default. Google-chrome --incognito %s What I do not know is how/where to edit the commandline in the launcher. Any tips on how to do this is much appreciated.

  • Is USB supported in safe mode on XP?

    According Microsoft, "Universal Serial Bus Devices Do Not Work in Safe Mode" under XP. However, in my testing this is incorrect. USB keyboards, mice and flash drives seem to work fine in safe mode (I made sure the BIOS was not providing support). This makes sense because a failure of a standard input device would be, in Microsoft parlance, a "bad user experience". So, Is USB supported in safe mode on XP? If your answer is no (agreeing with Microsoft), please provide a test case, preferably in a virtual machine, where a standard HID keyboard or mouse fails. Please state hardware / BIOS / OS configuration. Note that you will need a PS/2 keyboard attached in addition to your USB device(s) in order to use the boot menu. Virtual machine software usually emulates a PS/2 keyboard. Alternatively, you could add the /safeboot switch to boot.ini. If your answer is yes, please provide a link to some supporting documentation (either from Microsoft or someone authoritative). Your answer might be "devices X, Y and Z are supported but nothing else", in which case also give a link.

  • Outlook certificate error and separate send/receive error

    I run a laptop with Vista 32bit and MS Office 2010. Outlook has two profiles, both configured as POP3/SMTP and neither go through an exchange server. Recently, one of the mail servers (hosted with easily) was getting full, so I changed the profile setting to delete from the server if mails are older than 60 days. Suddenly, I am now experiencing a couple of glitches. The first is that I get a certificate error when outlook tries it's first send/receive under the relevant profile - "The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified" This continues despite apparently successfully re-importing the certificate. The second glitch is that I get a "Sending reported error (0x8004010F): 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed'" error on send receive. Strangely, it seems to be trying to send/receive twice - once to 'mail@domain', which works, and the second to 'domain' which doesn't. I've tried deleting the profile and re-creating it, pointing to the original .pst file, but still get both errors. Does anybody know how I can resolve these errors? (As a by note, and not that important, more for curiosity, does anybody know why simply changing the delete from server setting against that profile would cause these issues?)

  • Windows 8 Microsoft Account and Microsoft Store doesn't allow login

    The problem is that I have to go through proxy here in college to make my internet work. When I signed with my live id to switch to the Microsoft account in Windows 8, it recognized and validate my security questions but says it cannot connect to Microsoft Services. All other apps like mail, messenger, etc. work except for the Windows Store. The windows store what apps are available but when installed, queues it up for a pending download. Is there a way to modify my proxy settings so that I can access both these features?

  • Apple Magic Trackpad 3-Finger Drop Lag

    After enabling three-finger dragging for my Trackpad, I notice that it drags well, but when I release there is about 1-2 seconds of lag before it actually drops. I understand this is supposed to be a feature so when you run out of space to drag, you have time to move your hand. But, for those of us powerusers, who move really fast, this is a BUG, not a feature. There should be some way to turn it off! For some perspective, I personally own a Fingerworks trackpad as well (the company Apple bought to make the Trackpad) and it does not suffer this problem. Drops are instantaneous no matter what program I am in. This is hugely frustrating for me, because I thought I was upgrading here and Apple's version does not perform as well as the Fingerworks model (which I purchased in 2004) I actually made a short video illustrating the problem, and why it is so frustrating for anyone who uses the pad as an artistic tool. Anyone here face this problem? If not, how would you recommend that I address Apple directly about this? PS - Already looked at this thread and the conclusion does not help me. I do not have one-finger drag enabled. PPS - I understand that for most people this is not an issue because they use the 'click' feature of the Trackpad. However, after years of using Fingerworks and not having to click ever, I find that it slows me down.

  • How can I slightly delay the pop up of the task bar?

    Windows XP SP3 Many times as I head to the bottom of my desktop, I will slightly overshoot the target at the bottom and the task bar will pop up, hiding the target. I then have to move the cursor out of it so it retreats and then again try to access the target. Is there a way to add an interval, say, 1 second, to the task bar popping up so I can adjust to the target before the task bar covers it? EDIT: as per my answer below, "What I ended up doing is just docking it on the LH side of the screen. There is no change in response but I don't go to that location so often so it's much better.".

  • OS X Can't Access Netatalk Shares

    In my home network, I have a server running Ubuntu 10.4, configured to share files to my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with Netatalk and Avahi. It was working like a charm until one day it stopped working. I can see my server in Finder, I can enter a username and password, and it seems to accept it all, but Finder gets stuck "Connecting" until it times out. I've checked the afpd.conf and AppleVolumes.default. They are all intact. My guess is that an update broke something, but I don't know how to troubleshoot it further. Any suggestions?
