  • Force update in Hibernate

    How can I force Hibernate to update an entity instance even if the entity is not dirty? I'm using Hibernate 3.3.2 GA, Hibernate Annotations and Hibernate EntityManager btw. I really want Hibernate to execute the generic UPDATE statement even if no property on the entity has changed. I need this because some event listeners need to get invoked to do some additional work when the application runs for the first time. Thanks!

  • Can Spring understand @Inject replacing Weld as a JSR-299 implementation?

    I have noticed from several web pages that apparently Spring 3.0 supports @Inject from JSR-330. As we would really like to use JSR-299 syntax for dependency injection in our libraries for both web apps and stand-alone applications, and have alternatives to Weld, it would be nice if Spring could do this. Being a novice to Spring, I tried downloading the Spring Framework distribution and put all jars on the Eclipse build path. No Inject annotation so my existing test project using Weld did not compile. Can this be done with Spring? What do I need to do to get it running? (I am aware that Guice eventually will support this too. It is only in SVN for now, and if there is an official Spring release which can, that would be better.)

  • User will input some filter criteria -- how can I turn it into a regular expression for String.match

    I have a program where the user will enter a string such as PropertyA = "abc_*" and I need to have the asterisk match any character. In my code, I'm grabbing the property value and replacing PropertyA with the actual value. For instance, it could be abc_123. I also pull out the equality symbol into a variable. It should be able to cover this type of criteria PropertyB = 'cba' PropertyC != '*-this' valueFromHeader is the lefthand side and value is the righthand side. if (equality.equals("=")) { result = valueFromHeader.matches(value); } else if (equality.equals("!=")) { result = !valueFromHeader.matches(value); } EDIT: The existing code had this type of replacement for regular expressions final String ESC = "\\$1"; final String NON_ALPHA = "([^A-Za-z0-9@])"; final String WILD = "*"; final String WILD_RE_TEMP = "@"; final String WILD_RE = ".*"; value = value.replace(WILD, WILD_RE_TEMP); value = value.replaceAll(NON_ALPHA,ESC); value = value.replace(WILD_RE_TEMP, WILD_RE); It doesn't like the underscore here... abcSite_123 != abcSite_123 (evaluates to true) abcSite_123$1.matches("abcSite$1123") It doesn't like the underscore...

  • What can you do in the ant Task.init() method?

    I'm developing a few custom ant tasks that all need to initialize the same objects. I wanted to initialize those object's in a common superclass that extends from Task, in the init() method. But I see from the lifecycle of an ant task that init() gets called before the tasks child elements and attributes are set. So all of the data I need for initializing those objects is unavailable during init(), if I am reading right. So, why is init() called at this point? What do you even know that you could use in init()? What could it be used for? (And is there some other method that I can rely on to be called before execute(), but after my data is available?)

    Background Story I'm working at a software firm developing a test automation framework to replace our old spaghetti tangled system. Since our system requires a login for almost everything we do, I decided it would be best to use @BeforeMethod, @DataProvider, and @Factory to setup my tests. However, I've run into some issues. Sample Test Case Lets say the software system is a baseball team roster. We want to test to make sure a user can search for a team member by name. (Note: I'm aware that BeforeMethods don't run in any given order -- assume that's been taken care of for now.) @BeforeMethod public void setupSelenium() { // login with username & password // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page } @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String playerName, String searchTerm) { // search for "searchTerm" // browse through results // pass if we find playerName // fail (Didn't find the player) } This test case assumes the following: The user has already logged on (in a BeforeMethod, most likely) The user has already navigated to the search page (trivial, before method) The parameters to the test are associated with the aforementioned login The Problems So lets try and figure out how to handle the parameters for the test case. Idea #1 This method allows us to associate dataproviders with usernames, and lets us use multiple users for any specific test case! @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String user, String pass, String name, String search) { // login with user/pass // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page // ... } ...but there's lots of repetition, as we have to make EVERY function accept two extra parameters. Not to mention, we're also testing the acknowledge announcements feature, which we don't actually want to test. Idea #2 So lets use the factory to initialize things properly! class BaseTestCase { public BaseTestCase(String user, String password, Object[][] data); } class SomeTest { @Factory public void ... } With this, we end up having to write one factory per test case... Although, it does let us have multiple users per test-case. Conclusion I'm about fresh out of ideas. There was another idea I had where I was loading data from an XML file, and then calling the methods from a program... but its getting silly. Any ideas?

  • Reusing of a PreparedStatement between methods?

    We all know that we should rather reuse a JDBC PreparedStatement than creating a new instance within a loop. But how to deal with PreparedStatement reuse between different method invocations? Does the reuse-"rule" still count? Should I really consider using a field for the PreparedStatement or should I close and re-create the prepared statement in every invocation? (Of course an instance of such a class would be bound to a Connection which might be a disadvantage) I am aware that the ideal answer might be "it depends". But I am looking for a best practice for less experienced developers that they will do the right choice in most of the cases.

    I'm using IntellIJ with Apache Wicket and IntelliJ is showing me that tags like <wicket:extend> and <wicket:container> and adding wicket:id to other html tags is not valid. What steps do I need to take to make IntelliJ recognize the wicket tags? I'm using IntelliJ Ultimate 9 with the wicketforge plugin.

  • "No row with the given identifier exists" although it DOES exist!

    Hello all! I am using Hibernate and getting Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.ObjectNotFoundException: No row with the given identifier exists: [<MyDbObject>#271] What is pretty weird about this error is, that the object with the given id exists in the database. I inserted the problematic record in another run of the application. If I access it in the same run (i.e. same hibernate session) there seem to be no problems retrieving the data. Just because it could be a fault of the mapping: public class ProblemClass { @ManyToOne(optional = false) private MyDbObject myDbObject; } public class MyDbObject { @OneToMany(mappedBy = "myDbObject") private List<ProblemClass> problemClasses; } I have absolutely no clue even where to look at. Any hints highly appreciated!

  • Creating android app Database with big amount of data

    Hi all, The database of my application need to be filled with a lot of data, so during onCreate(), it's not only some create table sql instructions, there is a lot of inserts. The solution I chose is to store all this instructions in a sql file located in res/raw and which is loaded with Resources.openRawResource(id). It works well but I face to encoding issue, I have some accentuated caharacters in the sql file which appears bad in my application.     I am looking to implement web-based autocomplete for structured commands. So, for example, suppose I was trying to implement a web-based Windows command line with autocomplete, in such a case I would want to suggest all the available commands, then, once a user selects a command, all the options for that command, then if a user enters a switch (say '-' dash or '/' slash) then offer all the switches for that command and all the relevant values that can follow, and so on. All from the same text input box. If you have used version 4.0 of JIRA, I am thinking of something similar to the JQL search input box that they have implemented. I have not managed to find any tutorials that look at this scenario end-to-end (which is a shame, because it would be great to see more applications that do this). What I am looking for is some guidance on the steps needed to implement this solution: Do you have any experience implementing such a solution and if so what components did you use? Would you use a framework such as ANTLR to provide the available options to the end user? If not what would do? Sorry for raising such a general question, but my main problem is working out how the pieces fit together as opposed to, say, how to do autocomplete or how to parse/tokenize an input command...

I would like to draw a line through the element to appear as if that element is canceled. Point mouse = MouseInfo.getPointerInfo().getLocation(); int dx = (BULLET_SPEED*Math.abs(x - mouse.getX()))/ (Math.abs(y - mouse.getY()) + Math.abs(x - mouse.getX()))* (x - mouse.getX())/Math.abs(x - mouse.getX()); In this constellation i get: Possible loss of precision, when i change e.g (x - mouse.getX()) to (x - mouse.getX()).doubleValue() it says double cannot be dereferenced, when i add intValue() somewhere it says int cannot be dereferenced.   • task strategies for handling HardDeadlineExceededError

    I've got a number of tasks/servlets that are hitting the HardDeadlineExceededError which is leaving everything hanging in an 'still executing' state. The work being done can easily exceed the 29 second threshold. I try to catch the DeadlineExceededException and base Exception in order to save the exit state but neither of these exception handlers are being caught... Is there a way to determine which tasks are in the queue or currently executing? Are there any other strategies for dealing with this situation?
