  • Renaming and Moving Files in Bash

    - by KT
HI, I'm completely new to Bash and StackOverflow. I need to move a set of files (all contained in the same folder) to a target folder where files with the same name could already exist. In case a specific file exists, I need to rename the file before moving it, by appending for example an incremental integer to the file name. The extensions should be preserved. The file names could contain dots in the middle. Originally, I was thinking about comparing the two folders to have a list of the existing files (I did this with "comm"), but then I got a bit stuck. I think I'm just trying to do things in the most complicated possible way. Any hint to do this in the "bash way"?

  • Mimicking basic fcntl or SetHandleInformation call in .Net

    - by Tristan
Tornado enables win32 support by faking Python's fcntl function using SetHandleInformation, which is available via ctypes on Windows. After some other small fixes, this actually works using IronPython on Windows as well (sadly, IronPython is five times slower). I'd like to get Tornado working on any CLI platform, such using Mono on OSX or Linux. Is there a managed, cross-platform, .Net approach that can fake fcntl? Here's the win32 code from Tornado: SetHandleInformation = ctypes.windll.kernel32.SetHandleInformation SetHandleInformation.argtypes = (ctypes.wintypes.HANDLE, ctypes.wintypes.DWORD, ctypes.wintypes.DWORD) SetHandleInformation.restype = ctypes.wintypes.BOOL HANDLE_FLAG_INHERIT = 0x00000001 F_GETFD = 1 F_SETFD = 2 F_GETFL = 3 F_SETFL = 4 FD_CLOEXEC = 1 os.O_NONBLOCK = 2048 FIONBIO = 126 def fcntl(fd, op, arg=0): if op == F_GETFD or op == F_GETFL: return 0 elif op == F_SETFD: # Check that the flag is CLOEXEC and translate if arg == FD_CLOEXEC: fd = int(fd) success = SetHandleInformation(fd, HANDLE_FLAG_INHERIT, arg) if not success: raise ctypes.GetLastError() else: raise ValueError("Unsupported arg") else: raise ValueError("Unsupported op")

  • Inserting text to a file with Sed within Bash Script

    - by neversaint
    I tried to insert a text to the first line of a file using sed. I do this inside a bash script. But why it hangs at the line of sed execution? #! /bin/bash # Command to execute # ./mybashcode.sh test.nbq nbqfile=$1 nbqbase=$(basename $nbqfile nbq) taglistfiletemp="${nbqbase}taglist_temp" taglistfile="${nbqbase}taglist" ./myccode $nbqfile | sort | uniq -c | awk '{print $2}' > $taglistfiletemp noftags=$(wc -l $taglistfiletemp | awk '{print $1}') echo $noftags # We want to append output of noftags # to the first line of taglistfile sed '1i\ $noftags' > $taglistfile # why it hangs here # the content of taglistfile is NIL

  • Is it possible to view the "source" for a ksh function?

    - by stevec
Our ksh environment defines several functions, which can be listed using then "functions" ksh function. Is it possible to see the definition (ie source code) for these functions? This seems like an obvious question, but I've tried all manner of parameters to the "functions" and "function" functions with no luck. Thanks, Steve

  • Detect number of IDLE processors ruby

    - by Yannick Wurm
Hello, I work on shared linux machines with between 4 and 24 cores. To make best use of them, I use the following code to detect the number of processors from my ruby scripts: return `cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor | wc -l`.to_i (perhaps there is a pure-ruby way of doing this?) But sometimes a colleague is using six or eight of the 24 cores. (as seen via top). How can I get an estimate of the number of currently unused processors that I can use without making anyone upset? Thanks!

  • basic device that can connect to internet

    - by Hellnar
Hello, I am looking for a cheap solution to my problem: I need to find either a common device (that is used in restaurants, bars clubs) or a cheap new device that can connect to internet (via the already existing ethernet or wireless based internet) and do HTTP request/receive response and retrieve information ? (For instance can a POS device connect to internet?) For a project, I need to do identity validation on several restaurants and bars and not all of them have computers. So I will be giving "cheap and easy to use devices" and non-IT personal can use it to do http request to my server and get response. All I can think of is Cell phones and SMS.

  • Apache is running but there is no page displayed

    - by Michael Ozeryansky
I am on a Mac OSX and I am using the built in PHP and Apache2. I have been setting up MySQL and finally when I got MySQL working my local site won't display. Do note that I did have the web server running and delivering PHP enabled pages, just no database connection. But my question is not about MySQL. I have changed various settings in the 'http.conf' file, and I have the line: '127.0.0.1 localhost' in my hosts file. I also have other alias' pointing to 127.0.0.1. I have checked everything I could about Apache and I have made sure that any message in the error_log is ok. I currently have my errorLevel set to debug, so I get all the messages. At this point (HOURS of self fixing) I think I need help. What can I provide for someone to figure this out with me. Thanks.

  • set environment variables calling script file

    - by sandeep
I have a requirement where I have to set environment variables calling a script file eg:set_env.sh. set_env.sh contains all the environment variables. export SCRIPT_DIR=/e/scripts/ ... when I call the set_env.sh from my code the variables are available in that file itself. They are not available in file where I have called the script. What should be done so that environment variables can be retained and can be used in file which calls set_env.sh. Thanks, Sandeep M.

  • Basic Recursion, Check Balanced Parenthesis

    - by pws5068
Greetings all, I've written software in the past that uses a stack to check for balanced equations, but now I'm asked to write a similar algorithm recursively to check for properly nested brackets and parenthesis. Good examples: () [] () ([]()[]) Bad examples: ( (] ([)] Suppose my function is called: isBalanced. Should each pass evaluate a smaller substring (until reaching a base case of 2 left)? Or, should I always evaluate the full string and move indices inward?

  • Basic Subversion questions

    - by Epitaph
I've just started using subversion, and have read the official documentation (svn book), cheat sheet and a couple of guides. I know how to install subversion (in linux), create a repository (svnadmin create), and import my Eclipse project into the repository (SVN import), view the repository files (using svn list). But I am unable to understand some of the other terminologies. For example, after importing my Eclipse project into the newly created repository I have made changes to my Eclipse project (more than 1 file). Now, how should I update the repository with this added files/changes made to my Eclipse project? The svn update command brings the changes from the repository into your working copy - which is the opposite of what I want i.e. bring the changes I made in my Eclipse project into the previously imported project in repository. If I am correct, you update the repository more often (as you keep extending your project implementation) than your current project (with update). Also, I do not understand when would you use svn merge. The svn book states it applies the differences between 2 sources to a working copy. Is there a scenario which would explain this? Finally, can I have more than 1 project checked into the repository? Or is it better to create a new repository for each project?
