  • What's the best way to set cursor/caret position?

    If I'm inserting content into a textarea that TinyMCE has co-opted, what's the best way to set the position of the cursor/caret? I'm using tinyMCE.execCommand("mceInsertRawHTML", false, content); to insert the content, and I'd like set the cursor position to the end of the content. Both document.selection and myField.selectionStart won't work for this, and I feel as though this is going to be supported by TinyMCE (through something I can't find on their forum) or it's going to be a really ugly hack. Later: It gets better; I just figured out that, when you load TinyMCE in WordPress, it loads the entire editor in an embedded iframe. Later (2): I can use document.getElementById('content_ifr').contentDocument.getSelection(); to get the selection as a string, but not a Selection Object that I can use getRangeAt(0) on.   • Loop not working when I try to traverse a Simple XML Object

    I'm trying to loop through the results from the Last.fm API but it's not working. function get_url($url){ $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_URL,$url); curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER,1); curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT,5); $content = curl_exec($ch); curl_close($ch); return $content; } $xml = get_url('http://ws.audioscrobbler.com/2.0/?method=album.search&album=kid%20a&api_key=b25b959554ed76058ac220b7b2e0a026'); $doc = new SimpleXMLElement($xml); $albums = $doc->results->albummatches; foreach($albums as $album){ echo $album->album->name; } This just shows the first album. If I change the code within the foreach loop to echo $album->name; it shows nothing at all. What am I doing wrong?

  • Xcode Unit Testing - Accessing Resources from the application's bundle?

    I'm running into an issue and I wanted to confirm that I'm doing things the correct way. I can test simple things with my SenTestingKit tests, and that works okay. I've set up a Unit Test Bundle and set it as a dependency on the main application target. It successfully runs all tests whenever I press cmd+B. Here's where I'm running into issues. I have some XML files that I need to load from the resources folder as part of the application. Being a good unit tester, I want to write unit tests around this to make sure that they are loading properly. So I have some code that looks like this: NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"foo" ofType:@"xml"]; This works when the application runs, but during a unit test, mainBundle points to the wrong bundle, so this line of code returns nil. So I changed it up to utilize a known class like this: NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle bundleForClass:[Config class]] pathForResource:@"foo" ofType:@"xml"]; This doesn't work either, because in order for the test to even compile code like this, it Config needs to be part of the Unit Test Target. If I add that, then the bundle for that class becomes the Unit Test bundle. (Ugh!) Am I approaching this the wrong way?

  • Formatting the output of a custom tool so I can double click an error in Visual Studio and the file opens

    I've written a command line tool that preprocesses a number of files then compiles them using CodeDom. The tool writes a copyright notice and some progress text to the standard output, then writes any errors from the compilation step using the following format: foreach (var err in results.Errors) { // err is CompilerError var filename = "Path\To\input_file.xprt"; Console.WriteLine(string.Format( "{0} ({1},{2}): {3}{4} ({5})", filename, err.Line, err.Column, err.IsWarning ? "" : "ERROR: ", err.ErrorText, err.ErrorNumber)); } It then writes the number of errors, like "14 errors". This is an example of how the error appears in the console: Path\To\input_file.xrpt (73,28): ERROR: An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'Some.Object.get' (CS0120) When I run this as a custom tool in VS2008 (by calling it in the post-build event command line of one of my project's assemblies), the errors appear nicely formatted in the Error List, with the correct text in each column. When I roll over the filename the fully qualified path pops up. The line and column are different to the source file because of the preprocessing which is fine. The only thing that stands out is that the Project given in the list is the one that has the post-build event. The problem is that when I double click an error, nothing happens. I would have expected the file to open in the editor. I'm vaugely aware of the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop namespace but I think it should be possible just by writing to the standard output.

  • How to make a random number generator in matlab that is based on percentages?

    I am currently using the built in random number generator. for example nAsp = randi([512, 768],[1,1]); 512 is the lower bound and 768 is the upper bound, the random number generator chooses a number from between these two values. What I want is to have two ranges for nAsp but I want one of them to get called 25% of the time and the other 75% of the time. Then gets plugged into he equation. Does anyone have any ideas how to do this or if there is a built in function in matlab already? for example nAsp = randi([512, 768],[1,1]); gets called 25% of the time nAsp = randi([690, 720],[1,1]); gets called 75% of the time

    Yesterday I was thinking about whether it would be possible to use the convenience of C++1x lambda functions to write callbacks for Windows API functions. For example, what if I wanted to use a lambda as an EnumChildProc with EnumChildWindows? Something like: EnumChildWindows(hTrayWnd, CALLBACK [](HWND hWnd, LPARAM lParam) { // ... return static_cast<BOOL>(TRUE); // continue enumerating }, reinterpret_cast<LPARAM>(&myData)); Another use would be to write extern "C" callbacks for C routines.     I have the following code that works great but I am trying to modify it so that instead of replacing column 1 of the Index page with a new index I would rather start the range in Cell C11. Right now, the new Index starts in Cell A1 of the Index sheet.     Hi, I want to track a list of root objects which are not contained by any element. I want the following pseudo code to work: IList<FavoriteItem> list = session.Linq<FavoriteItem>().ToList(); list.Add(item1); list.Add(item2); list.Remove(item3); list.Remove(item4); var item5 = list.First(i => i.Name = "Foo"); item5.Name = "Bar"; session.Save(list); This should automatically insert item1 and item2, delete item3 and item3 and update item5 (i.e. I don't want to call sesssion.SaveOrUpdate() for all items separately. Is it possible to define a pseudo entity that is not associated with a table? For example I want to define the class Favorites and map 2 collection properties of it and than I want to write code like this: var favs = session.Linq<Favorites>(); favs.FavoriteColors.Add(new FavoriteColor(...)); favs.FavoriteMovies.Add(new FavoriteMovie(...)); session.SaveOrUpdate(favs); FavoriteColors and FavoriteMovies are the only properties of the Favorites class and are of type IList and IList. I do only want to persist the these two collection properties but not the Favorites class. Any help is much appreciated.

So far, I've created a library for fetching info from LinkedIn profiles and some Wordpress plugins. Right now this client wants me to convert an HTML template into a Wordpress theme for using as a website. I feel this is a tad easy, so I wanted to ask, as professional web programmers, are most assignments harder than this?

  • Move to php in windows? Concern, hints, "please don't do!"?

    I am considering to move frome Microsoft languages to PHP (just for web dev) which has quite an interesting syntax, a perlish look (but a wider programmer base) and it allows me to reuse the web without reinventing it. I have some concerns too. I would be more than happy to gather some wisdom from stackoverflow community, (challenge to my opinions warmly welcome). Here are my doubts. Efficiency. Cgi are slow, what I am supposed to use? Fastcgi? Or what else? Efficiency + stability. Is PHP on windows really stable and a good choice in terms of performances? Database. I use very often MSSQL (I regret, i like it). Could I widely and efficiently interface PHP with MSSQL (using smartly stored pro, for example). XSLT + XML performance. I work quite a lot with XML and XSLT and I really find the MS xml parser a great software component. Are parser used in PHP fast, reliable and efficient (I am interested mainly in DOM, not SAX)? Objects. Is the PHP object programming model valid end efficient? 6 Regex. How efficient is PHP processing regexp? Many thanks for your advices.

  • Setting a property in XAML for a User Control

    Hi, I have a user control that has a property of type Integer, that i am trying to set in the XAML Template to be that of a property within the bindingsource. If I set the property using a hard coded integer i.e. <MyControl MyIntegerProperty="3" /> This works fine, but if i try <MyControl MyIntegerProperty="{Binding MyDataContextIntegerProperty}" /> it fails. I know that the integer property on MyDataContext is returning a valid integer, and i know that this format works, as directly above this in the template, i have the line <TextBlock Text="{Binding MyDataContextStringProperty}" /> which works correctly. Is there any flag that i need to set on my User Controls Integer property to allow this to work? Or am i doing something else wrong? Thanks

    Lion's Commentary on Unix Sixth Edition with Source Code is a wonderful book to learn how to read code. Reading code is important -- how does one learn how to write excellent code without having read excellent code? But, sadly, while great writers, of fiction and non-fiction, all spend a great deal of time reading stuff, we, programmers, seem to avoid it like the plague. Worse still, programming books usually go the same way. They might show a pattern or a style, but they often avoid showing good, complex code, and helping one go through it. There are exceptions, of course. I hope. So, with that in mind, what books are to be found which help one learn how to read code?

  • Positioning Photos in a Grid (HTML)

    Hey Everyone, I've been trying to code this page for a while, but my biggest problem is that I can't seem to get the photos perfectly positioned. For some reason, there is a small bottom padding in each <td>which is messing things up.   • Ensuring all waiting threads complete

    I'm building a system where the progress of calling threads is dependent on the state of two variables. One variable is updated sporadically by an external source (separate from the client threads) and multiple client threads block on a condition of both variables. The system is something like this TypeB waitForB() { // Can be called by many threads. synchronized (B) { while (A <= B) { B.wait(); } A = B; return B; { } void updateB(TypeB newB) { // Called by one thread. synchronized (B) { B.update(newB); B.notifyAll(); // All blocked threads must receive new B. } } I need all the blocked threads to receive the new value of B once it has been updated. But the problem is once a single thread finishes and updates A, the waiting condition becomes true again so some of the other threads become blocked and don't receive the new value of B. Is there a way of ensuring that only the last thread that was blocked on B updates A, or another way of getting this behaviour?

  • Force Tab Activity creation?

    I have a TabHost and several tabs added to it. Problem: The activities on these tabs are not created until the tab is pressed. My tabhost is broadcasting intents but my broadcast receivers are not registered until onCreate in my tab activities is called. Is there any way to force activity creation? Maybe my tabhost can call setCurrentTab and switch back to main tab(0), but is that really the best option available?

  • How to install VC80CRT debug runtimes without full visual studio 2005?

    I can't run a debug sdk application because it requires both VC 8 and VC 9 versions of the CRT. But it only requires visual studio 2008 for plugin dev, which is what I need. How do I install the debug runtimes from 2005 on to a Windows7 machine? I can't figure out how to make them run app local nor can I copy anything into the winSxS folder without a trusted installer.
