• How do I clear xmodmap settings?

  Exactly what the title asks. How do I clear xmodmap settings? I have an IBM model M, and somehow xkeycaps got it into its head that my "End" key was not any key at all. xev reports keypresses when I use it, so I know the event is being generated by the keyboard. Also, xkeycaps thinks that my arrow keys are all wonky, and apparently the scrollbar is broken so it only scrolls down - so I can't scroll up to find an IBM keyboard that just maybe is close to my map so I can fix my keys. So I'm trying to reset my keyboard to the default settings, but the xmodmap manpage is woefully devoid of "reset all" or "clear all" or anything of that nature (that I was able to find). Help would be greatly appreciated!

• Best way to redirect users back to the pretty URL who land on the _escaped_fragment_ one?

  I am working on an AJAX site and have successfully implemented Google's AJAX recommendation by creating _escape_fragment_ versions of each page for it to index. Thus each page has 2 URLs: pretty: example.com#!blog ugly: example.com?_escaped_fragment_=blog However, I have noticed in my analytics that some users are arriving on the site via the "ugly" URL and am looking for a clean way to redirect them to the pretty URL without impacting Google's ability to index the site. I have considered using a 301 redirect in the head but fear that Googlebot might try to follow it and end up in an endless loop. I have also considered using a JavaScript redirect that Googlebot wouldn't execute but fear that Google may interpret this as cloaking and penalize the website. Is there a good, clean, acceptable way to redirect real users away from the ugly URL if for some reason or another they end up arriving at the site that way?

  I am trying to force all traffic on my web site to use HTTPS, using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module added to IIS 7.5. I got that working and now have a need to exclude a couple of pages from using SSL. So I need a rule to rewrite all URL except those referencing this folder to HTTPS. I've been banging my head against the wall on this and am hoping someone can help. I tried creating a rule to match all URL except those in a nossl subfolder as in this example: <rule name="HTTP to HTTPS redirect" enabled="true" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(/nossl/.*)" negate="true" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTPS}" pattern="off" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="https://{HTTP_HOST}/{R:1}" redirectType="Found" /> </rule> But this doesn't work.   Hello, I am a newbie programmer and I recently started learning about exception handling in Java. I know what try, catch and finally blocks do, but I really need to understand how to use them well and where to handle something in the call stack... I have a project right now that involves I/O and all I'm doing is handling the exception in the lowest possible method in the call stack. I'm sure my exception handling can be improved, so I'm asking you guys how you think of exception handling? How did you guys get good at this and how can I better wrap my head around this idea?

• Batching dynamic sprites in OpenGL

  I'm trying to wrap my head around how batching is done in a 2D sprite-based game. My understanding is I'd get the vertices that represent each sprite I want to draw and stuff them all into a single mesh. That way I'd only need a single draw call to render everything. Does this apply when the sprites I render are different between frames, or when some sprites are moving? Because it sounds like I'd then have to recreate my batch mesh each frame, using either glDrawArrays/glDrawElements or a streaming VBO I assume. Does this sound correct?

  We're looking at moving our website from http://www.wikijob.co.uk to http://www.wikijob.com/uk as we spread our wings internationally. Our .co.uk website has a PR6 and received around 1/2 million visitors a month, 40% international. The wikijob.com domain, while registered for a while, has not been used nor promoted. I am concerned that moving domain could really haemorrhage our traffic and result in a loss of goodwill from Google, even if we use a 301, but equally, if we could transfer that pagerank to the .com domain, that would give us a massive head start around the world. Should we do it, or should we start over with .com and leave .co.uk as is?

• What has the most efficient intersection test against an AABB tree - OBB, Cylinder or Capsule?

  I'm currently trying to find collisions in 3D between a tighter volume than an AABB and a tree of AABB volumes. I just need to know whether they are intersecting, no closest distance or collision response. An OBB, Cylinder or Capsule would all roughly fit these purposes but Cylinder and Capsule were the first thing I thought of, which I have found little information about detecting intersections online. Am I right in thinking that they would always be more complex to perform Separating Axis Tests on even though they might seem like simpler shapes? I figure by the time I get my head around SAT for curved shapes I could have done the thing with OBBs but I wanted to find out for sure.

• Do delegates defy OOP

  I'm trying to understand OOP so I can write better OOP code and one thing which keeps coming up is this concept of a delegate (using .NET). I could have an object, which is totally self contained (encapsulated); it knows nothing of the outside world... but then I attach a delegate to it. In my head, this is still quite well separated as the delegate only knows what to reference, but this by itself means it has to know about something else outside it's world! That a method exists within another class! Have I got myself it total muddle here, or is this a grey area, or is this actually down to interpretation (and if so, sorry as that will be off topic I'm sure). My question is, do delegates defy/muddy the OOP pattern?

What is the best way to not get my clients original websites penalised for duplicate content? I am planning to have a robots.txt file that disallows all robots, as well as using <link href="http://www.client-canonical-site.com/" rel="canonical" /> in the <head> of the pages. Is that sufficient? Should I use rel=nofollow on all the links as well?

I have to fire a bullet to the enemy from the only one point on the nose of the ship. Right now the bullets fire sometimes from the tailpart or other. So that's a problem.   Hi I have an EeePC 1000H netbook with a Samsung T22A350 1080p 22" external monitor. I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I mainly use the external display but when I select 1080 from the dropdown list, my only options are for a rotated portrait. My neck's non too supple, so tilting my head for extended periods is not really viable. :-) Any ideas on making ubuntu display 1080 normal landscape? It must be possible as using a gparted boot cd does it perfectly. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers!

  I have VirtualBox-4.1 installed in Ubuntu 10.04 with a .vdi running Xubuntu 12.04. Recently, a Grub update for Xubuntu 12.04 to Grub2.x, broke it with the following explanation: error: ELF header smaller than expected grub rescue _ Is there an easy fix for this?
