• No break compatible with Linux box?

  I'm buying this unit from deal extreme: it's a bitorrent downloader, with NAS capability. I'm interested in sharing an external HD in it, with media and backup purposes. I'm afraid of energy problems (don't know if this is the correct term), corrupting my mounted drives (like after a storm), so I thought about buying a No Break that sends a "signal" to my Linux box, and a script in my Linux box would unmout everything to avoid problems. Do this "No Break signal" feature exists? Do you have model suggestions? Thanks!

• JDBC CLASSPATH Not Working

  I'm setting up a simple JDBC connection to my working MySQL database on my server. I'm using the Connector-J provided by MySQL. According to their documentation, I'm suppose to create the CLASSPATH variable to point to the directory where the mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar is located. I used export set CLASSPATH=/path/mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar:$CLASSPATH. When I type echo $CLASSPATH to see if it exists, everything seems fine. But then when I open a new terminal and type echo $CLASSPATH it's no longer there. I think this is the main reason why my Java server won't connect to the JDBC, because it isn't saving the CLASSPATH variable I set. Anyone got suggestions or fixes on how to set up JDBC in the first place?

• Removing information about deleted volume

  In order to increase space in my c drive, I had to delete all my volumes and create again allocating more space to C which I did, after which my drive name G didn't exist. Before this I used to install all my softwares in G. Now since the drive does not exist, I want to remove all info about the softwares I installed in G as they got deleted when volume got deleted. I also want to install cilk++ but it gives me an error-invalid drive g:. If I insert pendrives so I get a volume named G, cilk++ installer runs but says that it will be integrated to visual studio 2008 which i previously had in G drive(but no longer exists) and doesn't show visual studio 2010 which i recently installed in C drive. How do I fix this? Please help.

• Remote Software Solution that Acts as a Client

  I am looking for something that I am not sure exists. I have a remote computer that will not allow incoming traffic due to ISP blocking of ports(basically double NAT situation that I am unable to get around). I am wondering if I have a computer acting as a client, is there any solution out there that will allow remote access to the computer. I do have other servers on the net that have static IP's that the computer could initiate a connection with. I am thinking of using Debian Linux, However computer is not built yet so OS is not overly important at this point.

  i Have a problem using my virtual hosts: When i try to connect to my server on direct ip adress, for example http://111.11.11.111/ in apache error log i see following error: script '/var/www/html/mmm/public/index.php' not found or unable to stat File index.php exists!!! and has correct access rights. • Corrupted network from ipad

  All wireless clients were kicked off the network (3 PCs & 1 iPad). Only a PC with a wired connection was still able to connect. This morning I discovered that the network had been renamed and a new password had been assigned. Via Linksys Updater I gave a new password. Strangely, in my Windows Control Panel/Network connections our old password now exists as an unsecured network, that I cannot delete! When I attempt to connect using this bastard network, I get an Apple Push error. Linksys WRT610N PCs all using Windows 7 (wired & wireless) iPad 2

• Dual Boot Win8 and Win7 - Win 7 fails while booting

  Below are my dual boot settings. Both are on different partitions, default is Windows 8. Both were working fine. There are multiple users of this machine, few run 8 while few 7. All 7's users are novice and they use Internet only. I frequently update Windows 8 but not 7. Few weeks ago, Win 7 stopped booting. Machine gets restarted while booting with 7(Windows 7 start up glowing-Win-logo-screen does not appear) and the 8's loader reappears. Win 7's partition still exists and contains Windows folder What steps should i take to check the problem?

• Sendmail Undeliverable Redirection?

  Good afternoon; I don't know much about sendmail, so this may be fairly easy for those of you more experienced with it. We have an account, "[email protected]", sending reports to various groups. From time to time an undeliverable message will be sent back to "[email protected]". We'd like for those undeliverable messages to be rerouted, or bounced, from "[email protected]" to a group of our choosing. To carve out a scenario for clarity: [email protected] sends a report to [email protected] and [email protected] [email protected] has someone who's mail account no longer exists, triggering an undeliverable message being sent back to [email protected] Rather than having the undeliverable message sit in [email protected]'s Inbox, we'd like for it to be automatically rerouted/bounced to an admin group, [email protected] So I guess a "rule" of sorts. I've come across this solution: Sendmail : ignore local delivery But I don't know enough about sendmail to know if this is what will fit this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• What is a good solution for an intranet video portal (YouTube-like) site?

  I would like an easy-to-setup site to handle videos to be viewed internally by my company. YouTube is essentially the perfect solution except for its being public. I'm looking for a place where a few people can upload videos, and the system will return a page where they can watch that video in a browser. I figure this would involve a dedicated Web server to run the Web application and process the videos. I've searched and I don't think such a system exists, but I perhaps there's one out there in its infancy that doesn't rank high on Google yet. Essentially the site I'm looking for is what MediaWiki is to Wikis, or what StackExchange is to Q&A sites, but for videos. Thanks in advance!

• export block device over network without root

  I'm trying to export a file as a block device over the network. I do not have root access on the machine where the file exists. I do have root access on the machine(s) where I will mount the block device. I've seen ATA-Over-Ethernet and ISCSI but there don't seem to be any implementations which allow me to export the block without root at least (some even require kernel modules). Is there an implementation of either of these or some other protocol that doesn't require root? Perhaps I can tunnel ethernet over IP to do this?

• Why doesn't my htaccess redirect work?

  I have setup a simple htaccess redirect which looks like this (this is the whole .htaccess file): Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On Redirect 301 /something http://something.com/something.php If I then load the site which contains this .htaccess, ie, myredirectsite.com/something I end up with the following 404: The requested URL /something was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Server at myredirectsite.com Port 80 And the logs: [Tue Jul 10 14:25:46 2012] [error] [client xx.xx.xxx.xx] File does not exist: /home/sites/scp/something Something is not a file, and something does not exist. I have assumed I could use Redirect the same as a Rewrite but it looks like the redirect needs to be for a file that actually exists? I created the file 'something' and it just attempts to load the blank file. No redirect. What am I missing in getting this working?

I saw a software program shown on my local Portland news last week that does this but I am unable to remember what it was called or anything else about it. • Can't boot after Deleted System Reserved Partition

  I accidentally deleted the System Reserved Partition and now I can no longer boot into Windows 7. The installation of Windows and all my files still exists in the partition, but without the System Reserved Partition I can no longer boot. After I deleted the System Reserved Partition I moved left the primary partition to fill the space. Is there any way I can "reinstall" that System Reserved Partition and the boot files? PS: I only have Windows 7 installed. No dual-boot nothing.

• Excel SUM From Different Sheets IF Date Found

  I have a workbook with separate sheets for each product (about 20 sheets, adding more on a regular basis). Each product is only available for a certain time frame, and has daily sales data recorded on that product's sheet. I want an overall snapshot across all products from any given date to be consolidated on a new sheet. This would sum from a particular column on each of the other sheets if a corresponding date exists. I have a moderately passable function right now that has a separate VLOOKUP for each product sheet like SUM(IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(DATECELL,SHEETNAME!ARRAY,COLUMN... next VLOOKUP, next VLOOKUP etc., but it's incredibly cumbersome to update each function when a new product is added. I'm thinking there's a much easier way utilizing a named group (sheet names), SUMIF, VLOOKUP etc. Then when a new product sheet is added, I can simply add the sheet name to the named group rather than editing all the functions. Any help would be much appreciated!

• How to switch a Sound Ouput Device before the Mac goes to sleep?

  I've connected my MacBook to a set of external speakers with a USB. Now, every time the computer goes to Sleep Mode, there's an awful static sound coming from the speakers. I guess this is some bad wiring; but that's what I've got. However, I can use an idea for a script (AppleScript, bash, whatever) that will switch off the USB output sound in (System Preferences) before the computer goes to sleep, and will switch it back on (if exists) on Wake. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Run ClickOnce Application from CLI

  I am working on an auto-install script for where I work and we have a ClickOnce type application we use from a vendor. I have looked into it and we can't automate the install but we would like to be able to at least start the install automatically. I have tried rundll32.exe dfshim.dll,ShOpenVerbApplication "%SOFTWARE%\ToolsApp.application" but it gives me an error about an invalid URI. What would probably be the easiest is to use whatever program Windows has (Windows XP in our case) to run the default "handler" for the file. I don't know if any such thing exists, but that is what comes to mind.

• Easily manage vsftpd virtual users?

  I have a vsftpd server configured with many virtual users. logins are stored in a Berkeley DB file One configuration file exists for each user to define his permissions (read-only or read-write, home directory, etc.). To do that, I use the user_config_dir parameter (set in vsftpd.conf). I am wondering if it would be possible to manage these virtual users from a simple GUI (such as web interface). I have found some tools but they are limited to generic vsftpd configuration, not virtual users management. Otherwise, PAM-MySQL seems to be a good way to manage users efficiently but only username/password and logs can be stored in database, not permissions. Finally, I've found this thread, but the solution is a bit awkward... Is there any way to easily manage the vsftpd users ?

Now I have a blog from wordpress.com and I wanted to map domain to www.88.example.com.br. The wordpress suggested to use this: 88.example.com.br IN CNAME example88.wordpress.com. Can I create a zone file with only that CNAME ? Can I use other zone file that already exists, like this ? $ORIGIN 88.example.com.br. 88.example.com.br IN CNAME exmple88.wordpress.com.   So IIS likes to shut down app pools that aren't in use. While this makes sense, I would like to have certain app pools conterminously running, but I don't want to just disable the automatic app pool restart as some of the settings (e.g., maximum memory limit) are good to have. I know that Microsoft announced the IIS Application Warmup module as an IIS 7.5 feature only then to do a Bait & Switch and pull it again so that they can put it in IIS 8 instead, so I wonder if something exists to run on IIS 7.5/Windows 2008 R2?

  Soon I will be getting my own mini-PC (RaspberryPi / MK802 / Mele A1000 / VIA APC). But I was wondering whether is there any possibility that I can just power up and access my mini-pc's OS by connecting it to wifi/ethernet link and remotely access it over the LAN without actually needing a monitor (throughout the process?) ? I currently own a laptop and need a download box and later will be getting a HDTV for converting to a HTPC :D So, I don't really own a spare monitor now but I do have an extra keyboard and mouse. Is there exists any linux distro for the same? which I can use to directly fireup my mini-pc and hook it up across my LAN to remotely access through my laptop?   I'd like to check the version of Firefox through Apple Remote Desktop of all managed computers. I have written this, but it only checks for Firefox in /Applications /bin/cat /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info.plist | grep -A 1 CFBundleShortVersionString | grep string | sed 's/[/]//' | sed 's/<string>//g' For standard users Firefox auto update breaks if it is in /Applications so I instead have it installed in ~/Applications I'd like to check that copy (if it exists), but I can't specify the path in the command since it is unique to each computer. For example: /Users/jon/Applications/Firefox.app /Users/arya/Applications/Firefox.app Presumably I want to use find and pipe the result to my command. This should work for 10.6 through 10.8

• Migrating domains - 301 Redirect of all contents of directory

  I need to do a 301 redirect with apache since I'm migrating domains. What I would need to do is the following, from certain directories, redirect all of it's content to a different damin (where the file already exists). Let's say I have one.com/files/something.doc or one.com/files/other.php I have already "copied" or "backed up" all the contents of the directory, so the following already exist: two.com/old/files/something.doc and two.com/old/files/other.php So I would just need to redirect anything in the directory "files" (or whatever). • VPN Router + LDAP/RADIUS?

  Hello all! I need a VPN-capable router, preferably with a web interface, that should be able to authenticate against my LDAP server which is behind the router. The problem stems from the fact that I'm utterly unable to configure that setup for the Linksys RVS4000 that I own. Anything exists that is both cheap and easy to setup? Flashing the firmware is an option, as long as it is a well-documented option. Would it be viable/doable? [Edit] Okay, I've been looking at custom firmwares, any way to know which ones will work with my router before nuking its present one to oblivion? Anyone has experimented with that? My needs are quite simple, I want a DHCP router, an LDAP authenticated VPN, and basic firewall capabilities. I'm using DynDNS from the RVS4000 for now, but I guess I could setup something on the servers instead, that's only a minor problem...

• Outlook + Exchange 2007: it is possible to rid of local OST files?

  I am looking for a solution which would allow to use a convenience of Outlook as a mail client app while at the same time have no PST or OST files on a local computer. Even in 'non-caching' mode Outlook creates an OST file where it downloads everything from the Exchange server. OWA does not create any local files (except cookies I believe) but lacks some of the nice features Outlook has. Would it be feasible to place OST files on a network share? Maybe the solution exists for some other client+server pair?

• mac & windows backup solutions - Offsite Backups

  Im looking for some advice on a system Im looking to impliment within our company, but so far I have not found an adequate solution too. I need to provide my users with a way to backup there laptops whilst in the office and if possible offsite as well, we have a mixture of Windows & Mac laptops so software should ideally be multi platform. This is the first time i am attempting to-do something like this as we normally charge the users with responsibility for their backups. I have ruled out most of the services like dropbox, sugarsync (unless one exists that does this) as whilst they does exactly what I want it does not give me any control over restoring / recovering data in the event of the user being unavailable, as it requires their account password to access data.
