  • How to recover my inclusion in google results after being penalized for receiving comment spam?

    My website had very high search engine results, especially in Google. But I left the website for a couple of months and didn't notice the comments were full of SPAM, about 20k comments of SPAM. Then i checked my google results and I'm out of google ! After years of having good results, no spam, how can I now recover from that? The spam problem has been solved completely. No more spam, and the website is very legit and very nice. Well, at least I think I was penalized, I don't see any other reason.

  • Google Analytics - bad experiences? (esp. adult content)

    I work for a rather large adult website, and we're currently not using Google Analytics. There is an internal debate going on about whether we should start using Analytics, but there is hestitation from certain parties. The main argument is that they fear that Google will get too much insight into our website, and might even block us from the index as a result based on our adult content. Has anyone here ever had such an experience, or know stories about bad experiences with Google Analytics in such a manner? I personally think it will only improve our website if we were able to use Analytics, but the dev team was asked to look into possible negative effects. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Choosing a Reporting Services parameter value based on the currently logged in user

    Here's my situation. I have a Microsoft Reporting Services report that as a parameter takes a salesperson's name and shows them their sales across their territories blah blah blah. But, salesperson A should not be able to choose and view salesperson B's data. So, my thought was to get the currently logged in user from Reporting Services, and then use that to populate the "salesperson" parameter. Is there a way to get the currently logged in user through some hidden RS interface, or is there some other way of accomplishing my goal that I'm just not seeing? Any help would be GREAT, as the higher ups aren't too happen with my (apparent) lack of security right now.

    I have a domain, let's call it example.com, which has a subdomain, games.example.com. I maintain a games forum using phpbbseo which is located at games.example.com/forum. The problem is that the forum is not being crawled. I used Google's webmaster tools and tested that the page is seen by google. P.S. There is a link from games.example.com to games.example.com/forum. What can I do? How can I make google crawl my forum?

  • Multiple windows services in a single project = mystery

    I'm having a bizarre issue that I haven't seen before and I'm thinking it MUST be something simple that I'm not seeing in my code. I have a project with 2 windows services defined. One I've called DataSyncService, the other SubscriptionService. Both are added to the same project installer. Both use a timer control from System.Timers. If I start both services together, they seem to work fine. The timers elapse at the appropriate time and everything looks okay. However, if I start either service individually, leaving the other stopped, everything goes haywire. The timer elapses constantly and on the wrong service. In other words, if I start the DataSyncService, the SubscriptionService timer elapses over and over. ...which is obviously strange. The setup is similar to what I've done in the past so I'm really stumped. I even tried deleting both service and starting over but it doesn't seem to make a difference. At this point, I'm thinking I've made a simple error in the way I'm defining the services and my brain just won't let me see it. It must be creating some sort of threading issue that causes one service to race when the other is stopped. Here the code.... As per Google's FCF requirements, your first 5 hits to a subscriber-only pages with .google. as the referrer, you see the full page. In addition to this, should we whitelist search engine bots so that they can index the full content? I assume this is not required for Google, which can use FCF to index our content, but what about other search engines? Is this considered cloaking? My gut says that whitelisting bots past the paywall is bad practice., but I wanted to confirm - any evidence or references would be amazing.

Currently we don't have anything to measure site usage, but I would like to use Google Analytics to track usage and statistics about our users. What data is sent to Google when you use Analytics? If I put this on a page that contains any of the above information, will that data be sent to Google? Or are they just getting the necessary information like user agent and IP address?

    Why would urls submitted in google webmaster tools drop to 0? It's a small site, only like 20 pages, I submitted the xml sitemap and for about a week it said 20 urls submitted. A day or so ago it indexed about 17 of the pages, but today when looking it not only says that 0 are indexed but also 0 have been submitted. I did a site search on google and found clearly that pages are indexed, is this just an error on google webmaster tools? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

"noindex" can be used in this situation, I know but I wonder if Google (or any others) indexes this page, if I don't do anything to prevent it.

    How can I go about making a sound clip play when an element is hovered over? I'm using the latest Wordpress, and the parent theme I am using gives me an option to paste scripts which it will embed to the <head> section. Is there a script which I can just add to my <head> that will play the sound when the cursor moves over my menu item class .menu li? I spent several hours trying to figure this out the other day with no avail.   • Migrate active directory to Google apps for business

    I've got a problem migrating active directory to Gapps. I'm stuck on google apps directory sync (GADS) where it just gives the error "java.lang.NullPointerException" after testing the connection during the LDAP configuration step. I checked the logs and I've pretty much determined that port 389 (standard LDAP port) isn't listening on the exchange server. I've tried telneting to it (from another machine in the same network) with no luck but I can telnet to other ports, that i know are open, successfully. I know they're open because I used portqry and netstat to see them. I'm suspecting that the active directory isn't even installed/running on this machine because there's no active directory services at all running on it. There's no active directory services that say they're NOT running either though. Is it possible AD is installed somewhere else? does it have to be on a machine inside the same network? I found the domain controller and it's host name and when I telnet with port 389, it works however GADS still gives me the same exact error when I substitute that server in. Actually, no matter what ridiculous settings i put into GADS, i still get that same NullPointer error. If i could get some different error than that NullPointer, i'd call that a successful day.

  • Need help writing jQuery to loop through table and inject markers into google map?

    I am new to jQuery. I've done some simple things with it but what I am attempting now is a over my head and I need some help. I am building a locator for all the firearms dealers in the US for a client. I am working within Drupal. I have a proximity search by zip code that works great. If you search by zip a list of paginated results shows up in an html table that can by paged through via ajax. I would like a map to be above this list with markers corresponding to the names and addresses being listed. I already have all the lat and long values in the table results. I want the script to update the markers and automatically zoom to fit the markers in the view when a user changes the sort order of the table or pages through the results. Also, I'd like to have a hover highlight effect over the rows of the table that simultaneously highlight the corresponding marker, and have a click on the table row equal a click on a marker that pops up a marker info window to be populated using jQuery to read the name and address fields of the table. Hope this all makes sense. I know I'm putting a lot out there, I'm not asking for someone to write the whole script, just wanted to give as many details as possible. Thanks for any help. I'm just lost when it comes to looping and moving data around. If they choose to go back to a previous destination, the relevant values are reinserted into the form fields.
